Alien OG Strain

Alien OG Strain: The Lemon-Pine OG With a Spacey Head

The Alien OG strain — also sold as Alien OG Kush — is a Bay Area hybrid that crosses Tahoe OG with Alien Kush. It first circulated as a clone-only cut in Northern California before The Cali Connection released it as seed, and it became one of the signature designer OGs of the 2010s. It smells like classic OG Kush — lemon, pine and earth — and hits with a buzzy, giggly, almost psychedelic head high before dropping into a heavy body. It belongs in the high-potency corner of our THCA flower collection.

It's also a strain where the details get muddled: who actually bred it, how strong it really is, and whether it leans indica. Below: the lineage and breeder story, the terpenes, how the high unfolds, potency, how it compares with other OGs, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to tell if a bag is top shelf.

A 360° look at Alien OG's frosty buds.

Quick Facts

In short: A potent OG Kush-family hybrid — lemon, pine and earth on the nose, a fast, buzzy, giggly head high that settles into heavy body relaxation. Best for experienced smokers in the evening.

Alien OG Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. AllBud and Royal Queen Seeds both list it as 50% indica / 50% sativa; its effects start heady and finish heavy.
  • Ancestry: Tahoe OG × Alien Kush. Weedmaps describes it as an F1 hybrid of a Tahoe OG female and an Alien Kush male.
  • Grandparents: per SeedFinder, Tahoe OG is an OG Kush (Tahoe cut) × SFV OG Kush, and Alien Kush is Las Vegas Purple Kush × Alien Dog — itself Chemdawg × Alien Technology, an Afghani-derived line.
  • THC: Leafly lists 19%; Royal Queen Seeds up to 25%; AllBud 22–28%.
  • CBD: Negligible — 0–1%.
  • Aliases: Alien OG Kush and Alien Banana (Leafly), Tahoe Alien (SeedFinder).

Who bred Alien OG? The two stories

Sources split on the breeder. Weedmaps says it was "originally bred by Obsol33te" — the breeder behind Alien Genetics and the Alien Kush line — using his Alien Kush male on a Tahoe OG female, and that it is now available from The Cali Connection. SeedFinder lists The Cali Connection as the breeder, and some strain blogs credit Swerve of The Cali Connection directly. Leafly and GreenState stay neutral: first available as a clone in the Bay Area, now in seed form from Cali Connection.

The likeliest reading is that both are partly right: the Alien Kush male traces to Obsol33te's Alien line, the Tahoe OG female to Cali Connection's OG program, and Cali Connection is the house that put Alien OG into seed. We haven't found a primary source from either breeder that settles it, so treat any single-name credit with caution.

Where the "Alien" comes from

The name traces to Alien Technology, an Afghani-derived line prized for resin and density. Crossed with Chemdawg it became Alien Dog; crossed with Las Vegas Purple Kush, Alien Kush. Alien OG grafts that resin-heavy Alien side onto a Tahoe OG — which is why it pairs classic OG lemon-pine with unusually frosty buds and a strong body. Don't confuse it with MAC (Miracle Alien Cookies), which comes from a separate Alien Cookies line.

Alien OG Terpene Profile

Leafly, using data from products tested in its certified labs, lists myrcene as the most abundant terpene in Alien OG, followed by caryophyllene and limonene. Other lab analyses put caryophyllene slightly ahead of myrcene — the same three terpenes either way, in roughly equal measure. Pinene fills in the pine on the nose. Caryophyllene is worth a note on its own: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Myrcene — earth, herbs, the heavy body

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, OG funk

Limonene — lemon zest, the bright onset

Pinene — pine, a clearer head

Typical relative profile for Alien OG — myrcene-led per Leafly's certified-lab data; some analyses rank caryophyllene first.

  • Myrcene: Earthy and herbal — the musky base of the nose and a big part of the heavy, creeping body stone.
  • Caryophyllene: Peppery and spicy; it gives Alien OG its OG funk and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
  • Limonene: The sharp lemon zest on top, and a driver of the fast, euphoric start.
  • Pinene: Fresh pine and part of why the first stage of the high feels alert rather than foggy.

That lemon-pine-earth combination is the OG Kush family fingerprint. Alien OG inherits it from Tahoe OG and adds a little extra skunk and fuel from the Chemdawg side of Alien Kush.

Appearance

AllBud describes minty-green buds threaded with orange hairs and coated in amber-tinged trichomes; other writers call the color "ET green" — a vivid lime that fits the name. Structure varies by cut: some are dense and grape-shaped, while GreenState describes bulbous, cone-shaped buds that are "fat but airy." The constant is resin — the Alien side makes it one of the frostier OGs, which is why it's popular for hash and rosin.

Aroma and Flavor

Leafly sums it up as "the typical lemon and pine OG smell and flavor," and Weedmaps' users agree: earthy, citrus and skunk are its top-reported notes. Break a bud and you get sour lemon over damp earth and pine, with a peppery, slightly fuel-edged funk underneath. The inhale is sweet-and-sour citrus; the exhale is earth, pine and light wood. Royal Queen Seeds adds "moist soil" to the list — this is an OG, not a candy strain.

Recreational Effects

Alien OG hits the head first and the body second. On Leafly, with more than 1,200 ratings, the top-reported effects are:

  • Relaxed: the headline — a heavy, full-body calm that builds through the session.
  • Tingly: a buzzy, physical tingle that comes on with the first hits.
  • Euphoric: a strong mood lift; GreenState calls the high "kooky," with plenty of giggles.
  • Spacey: Leafly describes a "psychedelic cerebral buzz" — great if you want it, too much if you don't.
  • Hungry: munchies are a common report.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 5–10 minutes: a buzzy, euphoric head rush — often described as a creeper, so it keeps building after you stop.
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak — giggly, sensory and spacey, with the body getting heavier.
  • 1–3 hours: a long, heavy settle; Royal Queen Seeds calls it a "creeping body stone." Many users finish on the couch.

Because it creeps, wait a full 15 minutes before deciding you need more.

How Strong Is Alien OG? Is It Top Shelf?

Alien OG is a high-THC strain, but the numbers vary a lot by source:

  • Leafly: 19% THC — and still notes its potency is "higher THC than average."
  • Royal Queen Seeds: up to 25% for its seed version.
  • AllBud: 22–28%, calling it "the perfect bud for any experienced patients."

Is it top shelf? A well-grown Alien OG is — it's frosty, loud and strong, and it helped define the designer-OG era alongside strains like Larry OG and Godfather OG. But "Alien OG" on a label doesn't guarantee top-shelf flower; the grow and cure matter more than the name. Which OG strain is the most powerful? No single OG wins every test — potency swings more by batch than by name — but strain comparisons consistently place Alien OG among the strongest OGs, usually above SFV OG and on par with or above Tahoe OG.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Alien OG batch against the 19–28% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Alien OG vs Similar Strains

  • vs Tahoe OG: the OG parent — same lemon-pine nose and heavy body. Alien OG adds more resin, more head buzz and, usually, a bit more potency.
  • vs OG Kush: the family benchmark. Alien OG is spacier and frostier; OG Kush is the cleaner, more classic earthy-fuel experience.
  • vs SFV OG: a grandparent through Tahoe OG — brighter, more uplifting and generally milder.
  • vs Fire OG and Skywalker OG: fellow potent OG Kush descendants in the same lemon-pine-fuel family. Skywalker OG is known for a heavier, more sedating finish; Alien OG has the spacier head.
  • vs Permanent Marker: not an OG — it's a modern (Biscotti × Sherb Bx) × Jealousy hybrid with a loud, chemical-gas nose instead of lemon-pine. We list it as the closest match on our shelf for one reason: the potency and heavy evening body are in the same league. If you want the citrus, pair it with Lemon Cherry Gelato.

Who Alien OG Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: experienced smokers who like classic OG flavor, evening sessions, anyone who enjoys a spacey, giggly head with a heavy body.

Poor fit: beginners, low-tolerance users, or anyone who needs to be productive — the creeper onset makes it easy to overdo. If you want something lighter, Strawberry 2.1 is the gentler option on our shelf.

How to Use Alien OG THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: a good way to taste the lemon before the earth and pepper take over. Around 350–380°F keeps the limonene and pinene bright; 390–410°F brings out the heavier myrcene and caryophyllene body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one small puff, then wait at least 15 minutes — Alien OG creeps. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the full arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the most-cited reason in Leafly reviews (about 31%).
  • Anxiety: about 27% — though the spacey head can tip the other way at high doses.
  • Pain: about 24%, consistent with the heavy body effect.
  • Sleep and appetite: the heavy finish and munchies make it a common evening pick.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — Leafly's most-reported negatives.
  • Headache — also on Leafly's list, usually from overdoing it.
  • Paranoia or feeling "too spacey" — GreenState notes some users find it too intense.

Is Alien OG good for sleep? At higher doses, often yes — the body stone gets heavy. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

How to Judge a Good Bag of Alien OG

  • Lemon and pine. Real Alien OG smells like OG Kush with a sour-lemon edge. Sweet candy or fruit means a different strain.
  • Heavy frost. The Alien side should show — resin on the sugar leaves, not just the tops.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Ask about the source. A Cali Connection seed line or a known clone cut is a good sign; "Alien OG" with no history is a guess.
  • A proper cure — hay or grass smell means it was rushed.

Growing Alien OG

Alien OG grows like an OG: stretchy, hungry and rewarding if you train it.

  • Flowering: about 8–9 weeks — Royal Queen Seeds lists 55–65 days; a SeedFinder grower reports a 56-day harvest.
  • Yield: up to about 500 g/m² indoors and around 500 g per plant outdoors per Royal Queen Seeds; other grow guides report about 311 g/m² indoors and 368 g per plant outdoors.
  • Height: 80–120 cm indoors, about 180 cm outdoors. Expect a strong stretch for two to three weeks after the flip.
  • Training: topping and low-stress training even out the canopy and feed light to the lower sites.
  • Climate: warm and stable; keep humidity down late in flower so the dense colas don't mold.
  • Seeds: The Cali Connection's original line, plus feminized versions from Royal Queen Seeds and others.

Alien OG is a hybrid. AllBud and Royal Queen Seeds list it as 50% indica / 50% sativa. It starts with a buzzy, sativa-like head high and finishes with a heavy, indica-like body.

What is Alien OG a cross of?

Tahoe OG × Alien Kush. Tahoe OG comes from OG Kush and SFV OG; Alien Kush comes from Las Vegas Purple Kush and Alien Dog (Chemdawg × Alien Technology).

Who bred Alien OG?

Sources differ. Weedmaps credits Obsol33te, the breeder behind the Alien Kush line, while SeedFinder lists The Cali Connection, which released it as seed. Leafly says it was first a Bay Area clone and is now available from Cali Connection.

Is Alien OG top shelf?

A well-grown batch is — it's frosty, loud and potent. But the name alone doesn't guarantee quality; check the COA, the frost and the lemon-pine nose.

How strong is Alien OG?

Leafly lists 19% THC, Royal Queen Seeds up to 25% and AllBud 22–28%. It's a creeper, so start small and wait.

Which OG strain is the most powerful?

No single OG wins every lab test — potency varies more by batch than by name. Alien OG is consistently ranked among the strongest OGs, usually above SFV OG and on par with or above Tahoe OG.

What does Alien OG taste like?

Classic OG: sour lemon and pine up front, then earth, pepper and light wood on the exhale.

What are the effects of Alien OG?

Leafly's top-reported effects are relaxed, tingly and euphoric. It opens with a spacey, giggly head high and settles into a heavy body stone.

Is Alien OG good for sleep?

Often, at higher doses. The body effect is heavy and builds over time; at small doses it's more giggly and social than sleepy.

Is Alien OG good for beginners?

Not really. It's potent and creeps up. If you try it, take one small puff and wait at least 15 minutes.

Is Alien OG the same as MAC or Alien Kush?

No. Alien Kush is one of its parents. MAC (Miracle Alien Cookies) comes from a separate Alien Cookies line and isn't an OG.

How long does Alien OG take to flower?

About 55–65 days indoors. It stretches for two to three weeks after the flip, so top or train it early.
