The Cherry Diesel strain is a cherry-cola-and-fuel hybrid bred by MTG Seeds, and it carries one of the more garbled family trees in this encyclopedia. Depending on where you land it is Cherry OG × Turbo Diesel, or Sour Diesel × Cherry OG, or Cherry Pie × Turbo Diesel. One of those is correct, one is a shortcut that deletes a generation, and one is a different plant. The breeder-attested cross is short. The pedigree behind it is not.

• Breeder: MTG Seeds. Never offered as feminized seed, so most of what circulates is clone or reproduction stock.
• Type: Balanced hybrid. Most databases print 50/50; a few dispensary pages call it indica-dominant, which describes how it finishes rather than what it is.
• THC Levels: Commonly 21%–24%. A published panel puts one batch at 21.2%; growers report 15%–18% on weaker runs.
• CBD Levels: Effectively none — 0.10% to 0.24% where reported. CBGA around 1% is common, high for a modern hybrid.
• Relatives: Sour Diesel and OG Kush both sit one and two generations up the Turbo Diesel side.

Unpacking Turbo Diesel — the half nobody expands

Turbo Diesel is where the interesting part lives, and almost no page opens it up. MTG Seeds describes it as Sour Kush × Sour Diesel, and Sour Kush is itself OG Kush × Sour Diesel.

Follow that out and the full pedigree runs: Cherry OG × ((OG Kush × Sour Diesel) × Sour Diesel). Sour Diesel appears twice, one generation removed. That is why the flower smells the way it does, and it is why the shorthand people use is half-defensible.

So: Cherry Diesel is not a direct Sour Diesel cross, it is a Turbo Diesel cross, and Turbo Diesel is three-quarters Sour Diesel by ancestry. Writing "Sour Diesel × Cherry OG" skips a real, separately-bred plant and loses the OG Kush contribution. Close enough for a chalkboard, wrong for an encyclopedia.

The Cherry OG side is fuzzier. It is an Emerald Triangle Seeds release generally traced to Cherry Thai, Afghani and a Lost Coast OG line, though some databases route it through Cherry Bomb and an Afghan purple indica instead. Nobody has a clean answer there.

"Cherry" is the most overloaded word on a dispensary menu, and Cherry Diesel sits in a pile of names that sound related and mostly are not. Here is which is which.

• Cherry Pie — not a relative. Granddaddy Purple × Durban Poison. No OG, no diesel, no shared parent with Cherry Diesel at all. One popular strain article even titles its Cherry Diesel piece "Cherry Pie × Turbo Diesel," which is simply an error — the cherry parent is Cherry OG.
• Sour Cherry — a genuine cousin, different plant. The Crockett Family Farms version is Cherry Pie × Sour Diesel: the same cherry-plus-fuel idea built from unrelated genetics. Other breeders sell entirely different plants under the name, so "Sour Cherry" means little without a breeder attached.
• Cherry AK — not a diesel cross at all. Cherry AK, or Cherry AK-47, is a cherry-expressing phenotype selected out of AK-47. Different family, different chemotype, shares only the first word.
• Cherry Punch — related to Cherry AK, not to Cherry Diesel. Symbiotic Genetics crossed Cherry AK-47 with Purple Punch to make it. Sweet and heavy where Cherry Diesel is sour and bright.
• Turbo Diesel — the actual parent. A real MTG Seeds strain in its own right, and the only name here that belongs in Cherry Diesel's pedigree.

Two more worth knowing. Cherry Turbo Diesel is not a separate strain — it is an alias for Cherry Diesel, and Leafly lists it as one. Triple Cherry Diesel and Lemon Cherry Diesel are distinct crosses that borrowed the name.

The practical test: a cherry note that is bright and sour over fuel is Cherry Diesel territory. Jammy, sweet and grape-adjacent is the Cherry Pie family, whatever the label says.

Is Cherry Diesel Actually a Balanced Hybrid? An Honest Verdict

Mostly yes, and that is rarer than it sounds — but the "perfect 50:50, works for any occasion" line that gets copied around is marketing, not observation.

The opening is clearly sativa-leaning: reported effects cluster around euphoric, focused, energetic and creative, with a physical tingle, which fits a terpinolene-forward profile. But the finish drifts inconsistently — one dispensary calls it indica-dominant with effects that build gradually, and a meaningful share of reviews report ending up sedated rather than motivated.

The honest verdict: this is a functional daytime-to-early-evening strain with a soft landing, not a neutral all-purpose one. Treat it as front-loaded — you get the clear-headed window first, and it closes. Plan around that and it is one of the better balanced hybrids at this price.

Two claims to discount: the 25%+ THC figures, when the panel we could verify sits at 21.2% and grower sources routinely report mid-teens; and the idea that it is a reliable clinical-focus tool. The focus effect is real and commonly reported, but a consumer report is not a clinical finding.

Cherry Diesel Strain Terpene Profile

Linalool-led with terpinolene close behind, then humulene and caryophyllene — a floral, softly calming base under a fresh, sharp top note. That is what produces the odd cherry-cola-over-fuel impression: the sweetness reads floral rather than fruity, and the fuel comes from terpinolene and the diesel ancestry rather than from myrcene weight.

A published panel puts linalool around 1.84 mg/g, terpinolene at 0.77, alpha-humulene 0.58 and beta-caryophyllene 0.53, with pinene and myrcene trailing. Databases disagree on the top of that list — one ranks caryophyllene first with limonene second. What is consistent is that linalool and terpinolene lead and myrcene does not, the opposite of most heavy indicas, and it explains why this one does not flatten you.

Fluffy, spade- or cone-shaped nugs in a bright, almost neon forest green, with prominent orange-to-rust pistils under a heavy blanket of golden trichomes. Grape-shaped is the description that recurs — rounded and clustered rather than the tight stacking you get from an OG-dominant plant.

The structure is the tell. Cherry Diesel is not dense, and a jar will feel light for its volume next to a heavy indica — normal, not a fault. Dull brownish green with sparse resin is a fault; this cultivar frosts well when grown properly.

Aroma and Flavor

Cherry cola first. Nearly every source lands on that description independently, and it is accurate — a sweet, slightly syrupy dark-cherry note with a carbonated sharpness behind it.
