Green Goblin Strain: Old-School Skunk With a Giggle

The Green Goblin strain is a pungent, sativa-leaning hybrid most databases trace to two of the most important strains ever bred — Northern Lights and Skunk #1. Open a jar and it's musky skunk, pine and menthol with a streak of diesel. Smoke it and the high lands fast — giggly, focused and uplifted — before settling into a relaxed body that lingers after your head clears. It's a classic-style daytime strain, not a modern candy-dessert cut. For upbeat daytime flower that's actually in stock, start with our THCA flower collection.

Green Goblin is also a strain with an identity problem. Leafly's own description floats the idea that it's just a "family-friendly" name for Green Crack, or a phenotype of it — yet the same site lists different parents, a different terpene-and-flavor profile and different potency for the two. Below: what the databases actually say, why we think it's its own strain, how the high unfolds, what the potency numbers mean, how to grow it and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at Green Goblin's frosty buds.

Green Goblin Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Sativa-leaning hybrid. Leafly files it under sativa; AllBud and a popular grow guide put it at 65% sativa / 35% indica, with some sources claiming up to 80% sativa. Zamnesia's seed version goes the other way and calls itself indica-dominant.
  • Parents: Northern Lights × Skunk #1, per Leafly (which says "probably"), AllBud, SeedFinder and Zamnesia. Leafly adds that some versions carry noticeable diesel notes.
  • Breeder: Not confirmed for the original. Leafly and AllBud list none. Zamnesia Seeds sells a feminized Green Goblin with the Northern Lights × Skunk #1 pedigree. Two strain guides name Skunkwerk Genetics, but neither cites anything, and we couldn't confirm it.
  • THC: 14% on Leafly ("lower than average"), 18% on Zamnesia's seed spec, 18–24% on grow guides and about 24% on AllBud.
  • CBD and CBG: negligible CBD (under 1% on AllBud, 0–1% on Zamnesia); Leafly lists about 1% CBG.
  • Aliases: Leafly lists the abbreviation "Gbl."

What Northern Lights and Skunk #1 bring

Both parents are foundational strains, and you can taste them both in Green Goblin:

  • Northern Lights — the Afghan-indica legend. SeedFinder traces it back to pure indica stock, the same Afghan family that gave the world its resin-heavy hash plants. Expect it to add the dense buds, the earthy-pine base and the relaxed body at the end of the high.
  • Skunk #1 — the Afghani × Colombian × Mexican hybrid that set the template for modern skunk. It's the likely source of the musky, pungent nose and the quick, happy head rush.

Is Green Goblin the same as Green Crack?

This is the question everyone asks, and the honest answer is: probably not, though the names do get mixed up. Leafly's Green Goblin description says it's "either the family-friendly name of Green Crack or a specific Green Crack phenotype," and one strain blog repeats that some people think it's a renamed Green Crack. But look at the data side by side:

  • Parents: Leafly's Green Crack entry lists Skunk #1 × an unknown indica; Green Goblin is listed as Northern Lights × Skunk #1. They share the Skunk side, which explains some overlap.
  • Flavor: Green Crack's top flavors on Leafly are citrus, mango and earth; Green Goblin's are menthol, diesel and pine.
  • Effects: Green Crack is energetic, focused and talkative; Green Goblin is giggly, focused and uplifted, with a heavier body finish.
  • Aliases: Leafly lists Green Crack's other names as Green Crush, Mango Crack and "Cush" — Green Goblin isn't one of them.

Reviewers split the same way. One Leafly reviewer calls Green Goblin "like green crack for indica lovers"; another says it "doesn't at all remind me of Green Crack" and tastes closer to Skunk #1 and Northern Lights. Our read: it's a separate strain — or at least a separate line — that sometimes gets sold under the wrong name. If you're buying, ask which one you're actually getting.

The other lineage claims

One grow site's spec table lists Green Goblin as Green Lantern × Roadkill Skunk, while its own text calls that unconfirmed and mentions the Northern Lights × Skunk #1 cross too. Green Lantern happens to be a Green Crack offspring on Leafly, which may be where some of the confusion starts. We couldn't find a breeder backing that pedigree, so we go with the Northern Lights × Skunk #1 version most sources agree on.

Green Goblin's offspring

Leafly lists Blue Goblin as a child strain, and SeedFinder lists Zamnesia's Green Goblin Automatic — the same genetics crossed with ruderalis so it flowers on its own clock. Neither source fills in Blue Goblin's other parent.

Green Goblin Terpene Profile

Leafly lists myrcene as Green Goblin's dominant terpene, followed by pinene and limonene, and grow guides name the same three. That trio maps almost perfectly onto the nose: herbal and musky from the myrcene, sharp pine from the pinene, and a little lemon from the limonene. No source we found published measured terpene percentages, so the chart below is an estimate of relative intensity, not lab data.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Myrcene — herbal, musky, earthy

Pinene — sharp pine, fresh and clear-headed

Limonene — lemon, bright citrus lift

Caryophyllene — pepper and spice (possible, not listed by Leafly)

Estimated relative profile for Green Goblin — myrcene, pinene and limonene in Leafly's listed order; no published lab percentages. Caryophyllene is a guess from the Skunk and Northern Lights family and isn't confirmed.

  • Myrcene: The musky, herbal, loamy base — and likely part of why the body relaxes as the high goes on. It's the most common terpene in cannabis and a staple of the Northern Lights family.
  • Pinene: The fresh pine that every source mentions. Pinene is often linked with a clearer, more alert feel, which fits Green Goblin's focused reputation.
  • Limonene: The faint lemon AllBud picks up, and part of the upbeat, giggly mood.
  • The menthol note: Leafly's top flavor and AllBud's "mint" don't come from a single terpene anyone has measured. It's most likely the pine-and-herbal blend reading as cool and minty — a common trick of pinene-heavy strains.

The diesel some batches show isn't explained by these three terpenes at all. It's the kind of sulfur-and-fuel note that tends to come from minor compounds, and it varies by grower — which is exactly what Leafly means when it says "some versions" show diesel.

Appearance

Leafly describes Green Goblin's buds as forest green with rusty orange hairs; AllBud calls them dense, lime-green nugs "with small flecks of brown." Grow guides add amber pistils, a heavy trichome coat and fat, tightly packed colas, with an occasional purple tint if the plant sees cold nights late in flower. One Leafly reviewer admits being "very fooled by the appearance" — it doesn't look like much more than solid green flower until you smell it.

Aroma and Flavor

This is a nose-first strain. Leafly describes the aroma as musky and skunky, with hints of diesel fuel, and calls it pungent — one reviewer simply wrote "strong gassy aroma." AllBud's tags read earthy, mint and pungent, with a "loamy" base.

On the inhale, Leafly's top flavors are menthol, diesel and pine. AllBud lists lemon, mint, pine, sage and sweet. One grow guide adds a sweet mango or papaya note, and a strain blog describes diesel with a hint of citrus and a lingering sweetness. Expect the sweet-fruit side to vary a lot by cut; the pine-menthol-skunk core is the constant.

The smoke itself can be rough. A Leafly reviewer warns it "smoked pretty harsh so I would recommend vaping it," and another blog calls the smoke dense. A clean cure and a lower-temperature vape both help.

Recreational Effects

Green Goblin is a quick-hitting, good-mood strain. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.3 rating from 146 reviews, the most-reported effects are:

  • Giggly: the headline effect, and the one that makes it a social strain.
  • Focused: a sharp, task-friendly head — AllBud says it can make you "extra alert."
  • Uplifted and happy: a dreamy mood lift that reviewers call "very uplifting" and "peaceful."
  • Creative and energetic: mentioned throughout the reviews and in AllBud's description.
  • Relaxed body: the Northern Lights side. Leafly notes that the body relaxation keeps going after the mind clears.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First few minutes: one reviewer loves "how immediate" it is — a fast, happy head rush.
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak — giggly, focused, social and creative.
  • 1–3 hours: the head clears and a calm body takes over. One grow guide notes the high isn't especially long-lasting, which is part of why it works in the daytime.

Despite the sativa label, it doesn't leave you wired. One reviewer says it calms without getting "too sleepy or dopey," which is a good summary of the whole arc.

How Strong Is Green Goblin?

Green Goblin's numbers are all over the place, which is what you'd expect from a strain sold under one name by different growers and seed companies:

  • Leafly: 14% THC, which it calls "lower than average," plus about 1% CBG.
  • Zamnesia (seed spec): 18% THC, 0–1% CBD.
  • Grow guides: 18–24% THC.
  • AllBud: about 24% THC, under 1% CBD.

One strain blog claims 20–25% without a source. Realistically, a solid modern cut lands in the high teens to low 20s. Green Goblin's appeal has never been raw potency — it's the fast, cheerful head and the old-school skunk nose.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Green Goblin against the 14–24% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Where the Name Comes From

No breeder or source we found explains the name. The comic-book villain is the obvious association, and "Green Goblin" fits the green, pungent, mischievous profile, but that's our guess, not documentation. What Leafly does say is that it's sometimes treated as the "family-friendly" name for Green Crack — the same reason some people call Green Crack "Cush" or "Green Cush." That naming overlap is a big part of why the two strains get confused on menus.

Where Green Goblin Turns Up

AllBud says Green Goblin is mostly found on the West Coast — especially California and Oregon — and in Arizona's medical market. Today you'll also see the name on hemp-derived products, including delta-8 flower and THCP blends, and Zamnesia sells feminized and autoflower seeds in Europe. Treat any product named Green Goblin as a starting point: ask for the lab report and the cut, because the name alone doesn't tell you which line you're getting.

Green Goblin vs Similar Strains

  • vs Green Crack: the strain it's always confused with. Green Crack is brighter and more energetic, with citrus and mango; Green Goblin is earthier and mentholated, with more body at the end.
  • vs Northern Lights: the indica parent. Northern Lights is the sleepy, earthy-sweet classic; Green Goblin keeps its body but adds a much livelier head.
  • vs Skunk #1: the other parent. Same musky, pungent nose and happy rush; Green Goblin adds pine, menthol and a calmer finish.
  • vs Jack Herer: another pine-forward, clear-headed daytime classic — Jack runs spicier and more sativa all the way through.
  • vs White Widow: a fellow old-school balanced hybrid with an earthy nose and an upbeat, social head.
  • vs Strawberry 2.1: our featured in-stock pick, and honestly not a twin. Both are sativa-leaning, upbeat and social with a faint gas finish, but Strawberry 2.1 tastes like ripe strawberry, not pine and skunk. If the menthol side is what you want, our Straw Gua Mintz has a cool mint finish; for the diesel side, Mule Fuel is the gas pick.

Who Green Goblin Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: daytime smokers who want a fast mood lift and focus, social sessions where giggles are the goal, fans of old-school skunk and pine, and people who like a sativa that doesn't leave them jittery.

Poor fit: anyone chasing a sweet dessert flavor, people who want maximum potency, and anyone prone to THC paranoia — "paranoid" is one of Leafly's listed negatives. For an upbeat, easygoing daytime flower on our shelf, Strawberry 2.1 is the pick, from $22.

How to Use Green Goblin THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the easiest way to skip the harsh smoke reviewers mention. Around 340–370°F keeps the pine and menthol bright; 380–400°F brings out more body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15 minutes — it hits fast. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full giggly-to-relaxed arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the top reason on Leafly, about 35% of reviewers.
  • Anxiety: about 31% of Leafly reviewers — though "paranoid" is also a listed negative, so dose matters.
  • Pain: about 27% of Leafly reviewers; AllBud also lists arthritis and chronic pain.
  • Low mood, fatigue and appetite: AllBud lists depression, fatigue and loss of appetite, plus PMS and gastrointestinal discomfort. It also mentions insomnia, likely for the relaxed tail end at higher doses.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly and AllBud.
  • Paranoia — a listed negative on Leafly, more likely at high doses or low tolerance. AllBud calls paranoia and dizziness less likely.
  • Harsh smoke — reviewers recommend vaping it.

Is Green Goblin good for sleep? Not usually in small doses — it starts uplifting — though the body side gets heavier as you smoke more. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Green Goblin Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Make sure it's actually Green Goblin. Ask whether it's the Northern Lights × Skunk #1 line or relabeled Green Crack. Citrus-mango flower with no pine or menthol is probably Green Crack.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. With published numbers from 14% to 24%, paperwork matters. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • A loud nose. Musky skunk, pine and menthol should jump out of the bag. Flat, grassy flower is old or badly cured.
  • Dense, frosty buds — forest to lime green, orange-amber hairs, visible trichomes.
  • Smooth-ish smoke. Some harshness is normal for this strain, but a black, crackling ash means a rushed dry.

Growing Green Goblin

Green Goblin has a reputation as an easy, forgiving plant — grow guides rate it suitable for beginners, fairly resistant to pests and disease, and responsive to training.

  • Flowering: 9–10 weeks (about 67 days) for Zamnesia's feminized seeds; grow guides say 8–9 weeks, and one blog says 7–8. Outdoors it finishes in early to mid October.
  • Yield: up to about 500 g/m² indoors and 600 g per plant outdoors, per Zamnesia — a breeder spec under ideal conditions.
  • Height: about 120 cm indoors and 220 cm outdoors (Zamnesia). Top it and use low-stress training or a screen to even the canopy.
  • Climate and feeding: prefers a warm, Mediterranean-style climate or indoors, and one source calls it nutrient-hungry, so feed steadily through flower.
  • Smell control: this is a Skunk #1 kid — plan on a carbon filter.
  • Autoflower option: Zamnesia's Green Goblin Automatic runs seed to harvest in roughly 10–14 weeks with smaller yields, per one grow guide.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Green Goblin indica or sativa?

It's a sativa-leaning hybrid. Leafly lists it as a sativa and AllBud as 65% sativa / 35% indica, though Zamnesia's seed version calls itself indica-dominant. Most people use it as a daytime strain.

What is Green Goblin a cross of?

Most sources — Leafly, AllBud, SeedFinder and Zamnesia — list Northern Lights × Skunk #1. One grow site lists Green Lantern × Roadkill Skunk, but no breeder backs that pedigree.

Is Green Goblin the same as Green Crack?

Probably not. Leafly floats the idea that it's a family-friendly name or phenotype of Green Crack, but it lists different parents, flavors and effects for the two, and Green Goblin isn't one of Green Crack's listed aliases. Some sellers do mix them up.

Who bred Green Goblin?

The original breeder isn't confirmed. Zamnesia Seeds sells a feminized Northern Lights × Skunk #1 Green Goblin; some strain guides name Skunkwerk Genetics without a source.

How strong is Green Goblin?

Published numbers range from 14% THC on Leafly to 18% on Zamnesia's seeds and about 24% on AllBud. A typical good cut lands in the high teens to low 20s.

What does Green Goblin taste like?

Pine, menthol and diesel on Leafly, with lemon, mint, sage and a little sweetness on AllBud. The aroma is musky, skunky and pungent.

What are the effects of Green Goblin?

Leafly reviewers report giggly, focused and uplifted effects with a fast onset, followed by a relaxed body that lingers after the head clears.

What terpenes are in Green Goblin?

Leafly lists myrcene as dominant, then pinene and limonene. No measured percentages have been published.

Is Green Goblin good for anxiety?

Mixed. About 31% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, but paranoia is also a listed negative. Keep the dose small.

Is Green Goblin good for sleep?

Not at low doses — it starts uplifting. The relaxed body comes later, and AllBud lists insomnia among reported uses at higher doses.

How long does Green Goblin take to flower?

About 9–10 weeks for Zamnesia's feminized seeds, or 8–9 weeks per grow guides. Outdoors it finishes in early to mid October.

Where can I buy Green Goblin THCA flower online?

Green Goblin isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. Our closest everyday pick is Strawberry 2.1 THCA Flower — upbeat, sativa-leaning and social, from $22, third-party lab tested. It runs strawberry rather than pine and skunk, so for a gas-forward option try Mule Fuel. Add a pre-roll to ship free over $75.
