Compound, Cipher or Maine Trees?

All three are right, about different things. Chris Lynch made the cross while at Compound Genetics. Maine Trees found and named the Blue Lobster phenotype, and the cut itself is clone-only — there are no breeder seeds of "Blue Lobster" as such. Lynch's later company, Cipher Genetics, then used Blue Lobster as a parent for the Lobster line of crosses, which is why Leafly credits "Cipher Genetics (original cross) and Maine Trees." Any "Blue Lobster seeds" you see for sale are other breeders' lines. According to Honeysuckle, the strain came to Los Angeles in a December 2023 launch with Cipher Genetics.

What each parent brings

Apples and Bananas is a layered cross — Platinum Cookies × Granddaddy Purple, crossed with Blue Power, then crossed with Gelatti, per SeedFinder's lineage (other sources publish slight variations). It brings the fruit — apple, banana, blueberry — plus purple-blue coloring and a heavy trichome load.

Eye Candy is Biscotti × The Menthol. Biscotti is a Gelato-family dessert strain; The Menthol brings a sharp, cooling gas. Together they explain Blue Lobster's surprise: a candy-sweet strain that also won Gassiest.
