Bolo Runtz Strain

Bolo Runtz Strain: The Runtz Cut With Four Family Trees

The Bolo Runtz strain is a candy-sweet hybrid from the Runtz family — sugary fruit on the nose, a creamy, slightly gassy finish, and a high that starts euphoric and talkative before settling into body calm. It's been a menu staple from California to New York to Illinois, and it sits squarely in the dessert-fruit corner of our THCA flower collection.

It's also one of the most confusing names in cannabis. Leafly lists it as Gelato × Zkittlez, Weedmaps as Zkittlez × Gelato 41, Strainpedia as Runtz × White OG, and at least one Illinois grower sells a Biscotti × Sherb Cake plant under the same name. Seed banks sell yet another version, and some menus shorten it to "Bolo RTZ." Below: what each source actually says, how to tell which Bolo Runtz you're holding, and what to expect from effects, potency, terpenes and the grow.

A 360° look at Bolo Runtz's frosty green-and-purple buds.

Quick Facts

In short: A Runtz-family hybrid with sugary candy, tropical fruit and a creamy, slightly gassy finish — euphoric and talkative up top, relaxing underneath — sold under several conflicting lineages.

  • Type: Hybrid — Leafly lists it as balanced; Strainpedia, Crop King and most dispensaries call it indica-dominant. See indica vs sativa
  • Lineage: Disputed: Gelato × Zkittlez (Leafly) · Zkittlez × Gelato 41 (Weedmaps) · Runtz × White OG (Strainpedia) · Biscotti × Sherb Cake (NEZ)
  • Breeder: Not reliably documented; grown by several cultivators (Hikei Exotics, Pound 4 Pound, LifeIsNotGrape, The Mechanics Farm)
  • THC: Leafly lists 24%; most sources 22–30%; one Illinois grower lists 31–33%
  • Dominant terpenes: Limonene and caryophyllene, with myrcene and linalool
  • Flavor: Sugary candy · tropical fruit · berry · cream · a light gas finish
  • Best for: Late afternoon to evening, socializing, winding down
  • Also called: Bolo RTZ, BlR

Bolo Runtz Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. Leafly lists it as a balanced hybrid; Strainpedia puts it around 70% indica, and Crop King Seeds and most dispensary menus call it indica-dominant.
  • Breeder: Not reliably documented. Weedmaps credits "Hikei Exotics and others" as cultivators, and one New York review names Life is not Grape as the original breeder — but no primary breeder account has surfaced.
  • THC: Leafly lists 24%; most sources land between 22% and 30%.
  • CBD: Negligible — under 1%.
  • Aliases: Bolo RTZ (Weedmaps, and menus from Verano's Essence and Savvy lines), BlR (Leafly).

Four lineages, one name — who says what

There's no breeder of record for Bolo Runtz, and that's why the family tree changes depending on where you look. Here's every lineage we found, and who publishes it:

  • Gelato × Zkittlez — Leafly and HighThere. That's the same pairing as Runtz itself, which is why many growers describe Bolo Runtz as a selected Runtz phenotype rather than a new cross. A New York review of The Mechanics Farm's cut calls it a "Gelato x Z Runtz phenotype."
  • Zkittlez × Gelato 41 — Weedmaps and a California review of Pound 4 Pound's release, which called it "a special phenotype of Runtz." This is the same idea, just naming the specific Gelato 41 cut.
  • Runtz × White OG — Strainpedia, which describes a heavier, gassier, more sedating indica and says the breeder is "not consistently documented."
  • Biscotti × Sherb Cake — NEZ, an Illinois grower, plus Kind Green Buds and the lineage tree on SeedFinder. This is a genuinely different plant: Biscotti and Sherb Cake have no Zkittlez in them at all. NEZ describes dark purple buds, a "gassy punch" and a heavy, couch-lock effect.

The seed-bank version

Crop King Seeds sells feminized Bolo Runtz seeds bred from "Runtz, LCG, and Gelato 33 S1" — Runtz with Lemon Cherry Gelato and a Gelato 33 selfing. It's indica-dominant and listed at 26–28% THC. Treat it as its own line: a seed-grown "Bolo Runtz" won't necessarily match a clone-only dispensary cut.

So what is Bolo Runtz, really?

The most common — and best-supported — answer is a Runtz-type Gelato × Zkittlez selection: that's what Leafly, Weedmaps, and reviews from both California and New York describe, and it matches the candy-sweet, creamy flavor most people know it for. The Runtz × White OG and Biscotti × Sherb Cake versions are real products sold under the same name, but they're different plants. As for the "Bolo" in the name — no source we found explains it, and we won't guess.

Bolo Runtz Terpene Profile

Leafly doesn't publish terpene data for Bolo Runtz, so this comes from growers and strain databases. The consensus is limonene and caryophyllene leading — a New York reviewer called The Mechanics Farm cut "heavy limonene/caryophyllene" — with myrcene and linalool behind them. NEZ also lists pinene, and Strainpedia adds humulene on its gassier Runtz × White OG version.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Limonene — sugary citrus, the candy lift

Caryophyllene — pepper and light gas

Myrcene — earthy, relaxed body

Linalool — floral, calming finish

Typical relative profile for Gelato × Zkittlez-type Bolo Runtz, based on grower and database listings. Gassier Runtz × White OG or Biscotti × Sherb Cake cuts lean more caryophyllene and myrcene.

  • Limonene: The bright, sugary citrus top note and a driver of the uplifted, talkative onset.
  • Caryophyllene: Pepper and a touch of fuel — the "light gas" on the exhale that keeps Bolo Runtz from tasting like pure candy.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and musky; it's behind the relaxed body that arrives as the high settles.
  • Linalool: Floral and soft, adding to the creamy, calming finish.

The candy and tropical fruit don't come from a single terpene — they're the Zkittlez side's overall chemistry. The cream and dough come from the Gelato side.

Appearance

Bolo Runtz buds are dense and heavily frosted — reviewers describe them as "boulder-like," "very dense and incredibly sticky." Weedmaps describes "bright green and violet nugs that boast fiery orange pistils," and most cuts show light-to-mid green with purple hues under a thick white coat of trichomes. The Biscotti × Sherb Cake version sold in Illinois runs darker, with deep purple buds.

Aroma and Flavor

Open a jar of the Runtz-type cut and it's sugar first. One reviewer of the LifeIsNotGrape cut put it simply: "straight sugar with a slight rubber smell on the backend." The Highest Critic's review of Pound 4 Pound's cut describes "a creamy, sweet candy aroma" of blueberries, blackcurrants, pineapple and grape, balanced by Gelato-style gas. On the smoke: candy and cream on the inhale, fruit and bubblegum through the middle, and a light gas on the exhale. Leafly's users tag it diesel, berry and lemon; Weedmaps calls it "candied tropical fruit" with "grassy notes." The gassier White OG and Biscotti-lineage versions flip the order — fuel first, sugar on the exhale.

Recreational Effects

Leafly describes Bolo Runtz as "well balanced, offering an uplifting, euphoric headspace followed by a calm, relaxing body feel that stays functional and social." Its most-reported effects are:

  • Uplifted: the first thing most people notice — a fast mood lift.
  • Talkative: a social, chatty strain in small doses.
  • Euphoric: happy, giggly and light in the head.
  • Relaxed: the body calm that takes over as the high settles, and gets heavier with dose.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 5–10 minutes: a quick lift in mood and a light, sparkly head change.
  • First hour: the peak — euphoric and talkative, with the body loosening. A New York reviewer put the heady part at about an hour.
  • 1–2 hours: a relaxed, comfortable come-down. At higher doses — or with the indica-heavy White OG and Biscotti cuts — it tips toward the couch.

How Strong Is Bolo Runtz?

Bolo Runtz is potent, but the number depends heavily on which version and which grower:

  • Leafly: 24% THC.
  • HighThere: 20–27%.
  • Joint Commerce: most lab reports 22–28%, with outliers above 30%.
  • Crop King Seeds: 26–28% for its seed line.
  • Strainpedia: 26–30% for the Runtz × White OG version.
  • NEZ (Illinois): 31.1–33.2% for its Biscotti × Sherb Cake version.

So a realistic range is the mid-20s, with some batches pushing past 30%. That makes it strong but not an outlier — plenty of modern Runtz and Gelato crosses test in the same band. The bigger difference is in the feel: the Runtz-type cut is euphoric and social, while the gassier versions are built, as NEZ puts it, "to shut the day down."

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Bolo Runtz batch against the 22–30% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Bolo Runtz vs Similar Strains

  • vs Runtz: the parent family — and, per Leafly's lineage, the same Gelato × Zkittlez pairing. Bolo Runtz is sold as a sweeter, creamier selection, and most versions lean more indica.
  • vs White Runtz and Pink Runtz: other named Runtz selections with the same candy-sweet family resemblance. Like Bolo Runtz, each gets sold in more than one version, so the grower matters as much as the name.
  • vs Black Runtz: a darker-colored Runtz selection, worth comparing if you like the purple-hued Bolo cuts.
  • vs Zkittlez and Gelato: the two sides of the family. Zkittlez brings the candy fruit and calm; Gelato brings the cream, dough and potency.
  • vs RS11: another candy-and-gas dessert hybrid in the same menu section, with more fuel on the exhale.
  • vs Cosmic Runtz: a Runtz-family, indica-leaning selection on our shelf — the closest in-stock match to Bolo Runtz's candy sweetness and relaxing finish.

Who Bolo Runtz Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: fans of sweet, candy-fruit and dessert flavors; late-afternoon and evening sessions; social settings where you want to feel happy and talkative without losing the plot.

Poor fit: brand-new users at full dose — it's potent — and anyone who needs to stay sharp for a long workday. If you want the dessert profile in a lighter package, Italian Ice in a 1/8th is an easy way to try the lane.

How to Use Bolo Runtz THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the candy and cream. Around 350–375°F keeps the sugary top notes; 390–410°F brings out the gas and body weight.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15 minutes before taking more. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the full arc, from the talkative lift to the relaxed finish. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly, not established clinical outcomes — and Leafly's sample for Bolo Runtz is small, so treat the percentages as a rough signal. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the most-cited reason, at about 37% of Leafly reviewers.
  • Low mood: about 25%, consistent with its uplifted, euphoric headline effects.
  • Anxiety: about 25% report help — though "anxious" is also one of its listed negatives, so dose matters.
  • Winding down: the relaxing body finish makes it an evening pick for many, especially the indica-leaning cuts.

For a plain-language primer on how terpenes are thought to shape these effects, see Project CBD on terpenes. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth — the most-reported negative on Leafly.
  • Anxiety — also listed, usually at higher doses or with low tolerance.
  • Heavy sedation — with the indica-dominant versions or large doses.
  • Dry eyes and the munchies — common complaints with any potent flower; Strainpedia notes strong appetite stimulation on its version.

Is Bolo Runtz good for sleep? The indica-heavy White OG and Biscotti versions are more likely to help you wind down; the Runtz-type cut is relaxing but social first. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Bolo Runtz Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask which Bolo Runtz it is. A good seller knows the grower and the lineage. Gelato × Zkittlez should smell like candy; Biscotti × Sherb Cake or White OG versions lead with gas.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Loud, sugary nose. Runtz-family flower lives or dies on terpenes — a faint or grassy jar means it's old or rushed.
  • Frost and density, with sticky resin and trichomes inside the bud, not just on top.
  • A proper cure — hay or grass smell means it was rushed.

Growing Bolo Runtz

Bolo Runtz is a moderate-difficulty grow. Most growers start from clones of a dispensary cut, but feminized seeds are available.

  • Flowering: about 8–9 weeks indoors (Crop King; Strainpedia lists 56–63 days). Joint Commerce allows up to 10 weeks depending on phenotype.
  • Yield: about 400 g/m² indoors and up to 550 g per plant outdoors per Crop King; Strainpedia lists 500–600 g/m².
  • Height and stretch: medium — Strainpedia lists 110–140 cm; expect a 1.5–2× stretch in flower.
  • Outdoors: harvest around early to mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • Watch for: dense, sticky colas need strong airflow and humidity control late in bloom to avoid mold.
  • Seeds: Crop King Seeds sells a feminized Runtz × LCG × Gelato 33 S1 line; other seed shops list their own versions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Bolo Runtz indica or sativa?

Bolo Runtz is a hybrid. Leafly lists it as balanced, while Strainpedia, Crop King Seeds and most dispensaries call it indica-dominant. Expect an uplifted, social start and a relaxing body finish.

What is Bolo Runtz a cross of?

It depends on the source. Leafly lists Gelato × Zkittlez (the same pairing as Runtz), Weedmaps lists Zkittlez × Gelato 41, Strainpedia lists Runtz × White OG, and Illinois grower NEZ sells a Biscotti × Sherb Cake version. The Gelato × Zkittlez version is the most widely reported.

What is Bolo RTZ?

Bolo RTZ is the same strain as Bolo Runtz. Weedmaps lists it as an alias, and some dispensary menus — including Verano's Essence and Savvy lines — use the shortened name.

How strong is Bolo Runtz?

Leafly lists 24% THC. Most sources report 22–30%, and one Illinois grower lists its version at 31–33%. It's potent, so start with a small dose.

What does Bolo Runtz taste like?

Sugary candy and tropical fruit up front — reviewers mention blueberry, blackcurrant, pineapple and grape — with a creamy finish and a light gas on the exhale. Leafly users also tag it diesel, berry and lemon.

What are the effects of Bolo Runtz?

Leafly's most-reported effects are uplifted, talkative and euphoric, followed by a relaxed body. Higher doses and the indica-heavy versions become more sedating.

Is Bolo Runtz the same as Runtz?

Not exactly. Leafly lists the same Gelato × Zkittlez parents as Runtz, and growers often describe Bolo Runtz as a selected Runtz phenotype — sweeter, creamier and usually more indica-leaning. Other versions sold under the name have different parents entirely.

Who bred Bolo Runtz?

No breeder is reliably documented. Weedmaps credits Hikei Exotics among its cultivators, and one New York review names Life is not Grape as the original breeder, but there's no confirmed breeder account.

Is Bolo Runtz good for sleep?

It can be at higher doses, especially the indica-dominant Runtz × White OG and Biscotti × Sherb Cake versions. The Runtz-type cut is more social and relaxing than knockout.

Is Bolo Runtz good for anxiety?

It's mixed. About 25% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, but 'anxious' is also a listed negative. Low doses are the safer approach.

Is Bolo Runtz good for beginners?

Only in small amounts — it commonly tests in the mid-20s or higher. Take one small puff and wait 15 minutes before deciding on more.

How long does Bolo Runtz take to flower?

About 8–9 weeks indoors, with outdoor harvests around early to mid-October. Some phenotypes run closer to 10 weeks.

Where can I buy Bolo Runtz THCA flower online?

Bolo Runtz isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Cosmic Runtz THCA Flower — a Runtz-family, indica-leaning selection with the same candy-sweet, relaxing lane, at $69 for a ½oz, third-party lab tested, with free shipping over $75.
