Gas Face Strain: Seed Junky's Fuel-and-Mint Heavy Hitter
The Gas Face strain is a very high-THC hybrid from Seed Junky Genetics, the California breeder behind Kush Mints, Animal Face and Permanent Marker. It crosses Face Mints with a Biscotti × Sherb backcross, and the name is a fair warning: open the jar and fuel hits you first, then mint, sour citrus and pepper. Leafly calls it "glistening, stanky, and dense, with a thick, strong smoke." The high comes on bright and social, then turns heavy. It belongs in the loud, gassy corner of our THCA flower collection.
It also has a story most strain pages skip. Gas Face was the best-selling flower strain in New York's legal market in 2023, took second place for indoor flower at the 2023 Emerald Cup, and earned a 96/100 from Leafly's reviewers. But the New York and Emerald Cup jars came from different growers, and the lineage you'll read online isn't always the same. Below: what the sources actually say about its genetics, terpenes, potency and effects, how it compares with its Seed Junky relatives, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at Gas Face's frosty buds.

Gas Face Strain Genetics & Lineage
- Type: Indica-leaning hybrid. AllBud and Black Tie CBD list it 70% indica / 30% sativa. SeedFinder only "assumes" indica dominance from the flower structure, and Leafly calls it a hybrid.
- Ancestry: Face Mints × (Biscotti × Sherb Bx). SeedFinder's family tree spells Face Mints out as Face Off OG × Kush Mints, so Gas Face pulls from OG, mint, cookie and sherbet lines.
- Breeder: Seed Junky Genetics of California, led by head breeder JBeezy. It's credited on Leafly and SeedFinder.
- THC: Leafly lists 28%. SeedFinder says around 25%, with some batches as high as 33%. AllBud gives 22–33%.
- CBD: Negligible. Leafly lists about 1% CBG.
- Aliases: GF, Gasface.
Where the name and the gas come from
Seed Junky's own description, quoted on SeedFinder, says Gas Face "will hit you in the face with her dank, pungent fuel aroma." The "Face" also points back to the family: Face Mints descends from Face Off OG, the same OG cut behind Seed Junky's Animal Face. Meanwhile the Biscotti × Sherb backcross is the same cookie-and-sherbet stock Seed Junky used for Permanent Marker. That makes Gas Face a close cousin of both strains.
The lineage conflict, and the New York Gas Face
Most breeder-credited sources agree on Face Mints × (Biscotti × Sherb Bx). A few long-form guides instead describe Gas Face as Face Off OG crossed with a Chem or Sour Diesel line. We couldn't find a breeder source for that, so treat it as speculation.
The bigger wrinkle is New York. According to Cannabis Business Times, Flowerhouse, a Hudson Valley greenhouse farm, grew the Gas Face that finished No. 1 in New York flower sales in 2023, ahead of Sour Diesel, Runtz and OG Kush. Flowerhouse calls its genetics proprietary, picked the plant from its own pheno-hunt, and describes it as a bright, sativa-leaning cultivar compared to Sour Diesel. That doesn't match the indica-leaning Seed Junky description. It may be a different selection, or a cut that simply grows differently in a greenhouse. The source doesn't say. Either way, "Gas Face" on a New York label and "Gas Face" from a California seed line may not smoke the same.
Gas Face Terpene Profile
Leafly's lab-sourced data puts limonene first, followed by caryophyllene and myrcene. SeedFinder lists caryophyllene, limonene and pinene instead and notes that the order varies from batch to batch. One AllBud reviewer posted a COA showing more than 3% total terpenes, led by about 1.2% beta-caryophyllene. Caryophyllene matters in its own right: a 2008 PNAS study identified it as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Limonene — sour citrus, the bright onset
Caryophyllene — pepper, fuel, the OG backbone
Myrcene — earthy, musky, the heavy finish
Pinene — pine, a little clarity
Typical relative profile for Gas Face — limonene-led per Leafly. Some COAs flip the top two and show caryophyllene first.
- Limonene: The sour citrus and lime under the fuel, and a big part of the bright, social first hour.
- Caryophyllene: The cracked-pepper, OG-fuel backbone from the Face Off side, and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
- Myrcene: Earthy and musky. It's the likely driver of the heavy, couch-leaning back half of the high.
- Pinene: A pine edge in some cuts, and part of why the onset feels clear rather than foggy.
The mint isn't a single terpene. It comes from the Face Mints and Kush Mints side's overall chemistry, which is why some jars read mostly fuel and others lead with cool mint.
Appearance
Gas Face buds are dense, tight and spiky, with an OG-like structure. Leafly's reviewer described "frosty, diamond-shaped nugs" in dusty purple and forest green. SeedFinder describes deep, dark minty green buds, sometimes nearly black, under a resin coat so thick it looks silver. AllBud's description adds blue-green hues, dark blue sugar leaves, thick orange hairs and blue-tinted trichomes. The color varies by grower, but the frost and density are constant, and they're a big reason the bag appeal is so strong.
Aroma and Flavor
The name tells you what comes first: sharp, pungent fuel. A second sniff brings out mint, sour citrus and a peppery kick, and some cuts add vanilla, leather or a musky fruit note. Break a bud and the gas gets louder.
The flavor follows the nose. Expect spicy diesel and sour fruit on the inhale, then a creamy, minty exhale with an herbal, hashy finish. AllBud describes it as "uniquely savory yet sweet," with fresh fruit, sour citrus, sharp mint and "nutty, herbal cheese." Leafly's users tag it tar, chemical and diesel. Leafly's reviewer got mint and hash with "gobs of sour, citrus, lime flavor." It's polarizing: fuel lovers rate it highly, and fruit-candy fans often don't. The smoke is thick and can be cough-inducing.
Recreational Effects
Gas Face works in two phases. The first is a quick mental lift: positive, social, focused and often giggly. The second is a slow slide into heavy physical relaxation that can end in couch lock. On Leafly, the most-reported effects are:
- Relaxed: the headline effect, and why Leafly calls Gas Face "mostly calming."
- Creative: ideas and music land well in the first hour.
- Uplifted: a mood lift that makes it a sociable strain early on.
- Tingly and talkative: common in user reviews, along with "giggly."
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 5–10 minutes: a fast head change that's bright, positive and chatty.
- 15–60 minutes: the peak, with euphoria and focus plus a warm, tingly body. Some reviewers call it a "creeper," so wait before taking more.
- 1–3 hours: the indica side takes over, with heavy limbs, a lazy headspace and, for many, sleep. SeedFinder says it leaves "even experienced smokers" ready for "a cozy night's sleep."
Batch matters. One AllBud reviewer felt alert with little head high, while others report pure couch lock. That's what you'd expect from a seed-grown strain with several phenotypes and at least two well-known cuts.

Gas Face's dense, frosty buds grind down into an even roll. A glass tip keeps the thick smoke smooth.

How Strong Is Gas Face?
Very. Every major database puts Gas Face in the high-THC tier:
- Leafly: 28% THC, plus about 1% CBG.
- SeedFinder: around 25%, with some batches as high as 33%.
- AllBud: 22–33%.
- Retail THCA batches: one hemp seller's COA shows 31.66% THCA and 27.89% total THC.
- GreenState: 16–30% across U.S. dispensary listings, which shows how much grower and cut matter.
Treat it as a strain for experienced smokers. The fast, friendly onset makes it easy to overdo before the heavy second half arrives.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Gas Face batch against the 22–33% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Gas Face vs Similar Strains
- vs Animal Face: Seed Junky's Face Off OG × Animal Mints. It has the same OG-mint backbone with more menthol and less sour citrus, and it's a bit more heady.
- vs Permanent Marker: (Biscotti × Sherb Bx) × Jealousy, so it shares Gas Face's Biscotti × Sherb backcross. It trades fuel and mint for a chemical-marker, soapy-floral nose. It's the closest genetic relative on our shelf.
- vs Kush Mints: the grandparent on the Face Mints side. It's sweeter, more doughy and more balanced, with less gas.
- vs Sour Diesel: the fuel benchmark, and the comparison Flowerhouse makes for its New York cut. Sour D is far more energetic; Seed Junky's Gas Face finishes much heavier.
- vs Super Boof: a different family (Black Cherry Punch × Tropicana Cookies), with cherry and citrus where Gas Face has fuel and mint. The ride is similar, though: a fast, giggly euphoria that settles into a heavy body. That's why it's our closest in-stock match.
Who Gas Face Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: experienced smokers who like gas-forward, savory flower; late-afternoon and evening sessions that start social and end on the couch; anyone who wants serious potency and doesn't mind a polarizing flavor.
Poor fit: beginners, anyone prone to THC anxiety, and people who need to stay productive all afternoon. If you want fruit and candy rather than fuel, Super Boof is the friendlier flavor. If you want more fuel, Permanent Marker is the gassier pick.
How to Use Gas Face THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: a good way to taste the citrus and mint under the fuel. Around 350–375°F keeps the limonene bright; 390–410°F brings out the peppery caryophyllene and the heavier body.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one small puff, then wait 15–30 minutes. It's high-THC and some reviewers call it a creeper. Regular users usually find two or three hits deliver both phases of the high. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Anxiety: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 25% of reviewers), though "paranoid" is also among its top negatives, so dose matters.
- Stress: about 23% of Leafly reviewers. Many describe it as end-of-day decompression.
- Low mood: about 22%, in line with the uplifting first phase.
- Aches and sleep: AllBud lists chronic pain and fatigue, and SeedFinder notes patient reports of sleep and appetite help, which fits the heavy second phase.

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes: the most common complaints on Leafly.
- Paranoia or anxiety: a top-reported negative, mostly at high doses or low tolerance.
- Couch lock and drowsiness: the indica back half can hit harder than the onset suggests.
Is Gas Face good for sleep? At a full dose, many people find it is. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Gas Face Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Ask about the source. Seed Junky genetics, a named cultivator, or a New York greenhouse cut? They can smoke differently.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 33% claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Fuel first, then mint and citrus. A jar that smells only grassy or only sweet isn't showing the Gas Face profile.
- Density and frost: tight, spiky OG-shaped buds with a silvery resin coat.
- A fresh, proper cure. Reviewers say Gas Face is a favorite "if it's a fresh batch." Stale gas strains lose their nose fast.
Growing Gas Face
Public grow data is thin, and SeedFinder says outright that yield is unknown. Here's what the sources do report:
- Flowering: about 65 days (SeedFinder); GreenState says 8–9 weeks indoors.
- Environment: indoor or outdoor. SeedFinder suggests ScrOG indoors to light the dense bud sites. Flowerhouse notes its cut tolerates humidity and low light in a greenhouse.
- Difficulty: moderate to expert, per GreenState.
- Seeds: Seed Junky doesn't sell Gas Face seeds directly. SeedFinder lists feminized stock through seed banks and a Gas Face S1 from Copycat Genetix.
- Descendants: breeders have already used it as a parent. Toadstool (Fruity Pebbles OG × Gas Face) and Gas Face S1 are two of the crosses SeedFinder lists.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Gas Face indica or sativa?
Gas Face is an indica-leaning hybrid. AllBud lists it as 70% indica and 30% sativa, and Leafly calls it a hybrid. The onset is uplifting and social, but the finish is heavy and relaxing. One New York cut, grown by Flowerhouse, is described as sativa-leaning, so the label can depend on the grower.
What is Gas Face a cross of?
Face Mints × (Biscotti × Sherb Bx), bred by Seed Junky Genetics. SeedFinder lists Face Mints as Face Off OG × Kush Mints. A few guides claim Face Off OG × Chem instead, but no breeder source backs that.
Who bred Gas Face?
Seed Junky Genetics of California, whose head breeder is JBeezy. It's the same breeder behind Kush Mints, Animal Face and Permanent Marker.
How strong is Gas Face?
Very strong. Leafly lists 28% THC, SeedFinder about 25% with batches up to 33%, and AllBud 22–33%. Start with one small puff and wait 15–30 minutes.
What does Gas Face taste like?
Fuel first, then mint, sour citrus and pepper, with a creamy, hashy, herbal finish. Leafly users tag it tar, chemical and diesel. AllBud mentions fresh fruit, sharp mint and a nutty, herbal-cheese note.
What are the effects of Gas Face?
A two-phase high: a quick, uplifting, social and often giggly head buzz, followed by deep body relaxation that can turn into couch lock. Leafly's most-reported effects are relaxed, creative and uplifted.
Why is Gas Face so popular?
Potency, bag appeal and a loud fuel nose. Flowerhouse's Gas Face was the best-selling flower strain in New York's legal market in 2023. A Gas Face entry took second for indoor flower at the 2023 Emerald Cup, and Leafly's reviewers rated Seed Junky's run 96/100.
Did Gas Face win the Emerald Cup?
It placed second in the Indoor Flower category at the 2023 Emerald Cup, entered by the cultivator Sense. First place went to Fig Farms' Blue Face.
Is Gas Face good for anxiety?
It's mixed. About 25% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, but 'paranoid' is also one of its top-reported negatives. Low doses are the safer approach, and nothing here is medical advice.
Is Gas Face good for sleep?
Often, at a full dose. The first hour is uplifting, but the indica side tends to leave people relaxed, lazy and ready for bed.
Is Gas Face good for beginners?
Not really. It's high-THC and some reviewers call it a creeper. If you try it, take one small puff and wait.
How long does Gas Face take to flower?
About 65 days, or 8–9 weeks indoors. Seed Junky doesn't sell the seeds directly, but feminized and S1 versions show up through seed banks.
Where can I buy Gas Face THCA flower online?
Gas Face isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match on the high is Super Boof THCA Flower, ½oz for $65: a fast, giggly lift that settles into a heavy body, with cream and light fuel on the exhale. It's a different family, though. For the Seed Junky genetics and a gassier nose, go with Permanent Marker THCA Flower, ½oz for $65, which shares Gas Face's Biscotti × Sherb Bx parent. Both are third-party lab tested, with free shipping over $75.
