Grape Fritter Strain: A Grape-Jelly Doughnut in Flower Form
The Grape Fritter strain is what happens when you take Apple Fritter — one of the best-known bakery strains of the last decade — and push it into grape territory. Think grape jelly and berries on top, sour apple and warm, doughy spice underneath. Leafly credits it to Grow Sciences, an Arizona producer, and reviewers rate it highly for a euphoric, giggly, creative head that eases into a relaxed body without pinning you to the couch. If sweet, fruit-forward dessert flower is your lane, start with our THCA flower collection.
Here's the catch — and it's a big one. The sources don't agree on what Grape Fritter actually is. Leafly's strain page, AllBud and GrowDiaries list a three-way cross of Grape Ape, Apple Fritter and Jet A. Grow Sciences' own product listing, and Liberty Cannabis, say Apple Fritter × Grape Cream Cake. Below we lay out both, plus what the high feels like, how strong it really is, what the terpenes say, how to grow it and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at Grape Fritter's frosty buds.

- Type: Hybrid. Leafly and AllBud both list it as an even 50/50; Liberty Cannabis calls it a balanced hybrid, one JointCommerce guide says it has "a slight indica tilt," and a Leafly reviewer says it leans indica.
- Breeder: Grow Sciences, credited by Leafly and GrowDiaries. Leafly describes the company as an Arizona-licensed producer headquartered in Phoenix that farms organically.
- Ancestry, version one: Leafly writes it as Grape Ape × Apple Fritter, then crossed with Jet A. AllBud gives the same recipe — (Grape Ape × Apple Fritter) × Jet A — and GrowDiaries lists Grape Ape, Jet-A and Apple Fritter.
- Ancestry, version two: Grow Sciences' own product listing on Leafly reads "Apple Fritter x Grape Cream Cake," and Liberty Cannabis, which sells a Garcia Hand Picked cut, says the same.
- THC: 23% on Leafly (with 1% CBG), 27–28% on AllBud, 28% on GrowDiaries.
- CBD: negligible — GrowDiaries lists 0.1%.
The one parent everyone agrees on: Apple Fritter
Every source puts Apple Fritter in the mix. Leafly lists it as Sour Apple × Animal Cookies from Lumpy's Flowers, at about 24% THC with caryophyllene as the dominant terpene. That's where Grape Fritter gets its sour-apple tang, its doughy, buttery "fritter" base and much of its peppery spice. The name follows the same logic: Apple Fritter's bakery DNA, with grape swapped in for apple on top.
The grape side: Grape Ape or Grape Cream Cake?
This is where the two versions split, and both grape parents are credible:
- Grape Ape — a Mendocino Purps × Skunk × Afghani classic from Apothecary Genetics, per Leafly. It's myrcene-heavy, sleepy and grape-candy sweet, and it's also a parent of Zkittlez.
- Grape Cream Cake — Bloom Seed Co.'s Grape Pie × Wedding Crasher, listed at 23% THC with vanilla, grape and nutty flavors. That line would also put Cherry Pie and Wedding Cake genetics in the background.
- Jet A — the third parent in version one. We couldn't find a reliable pedigree for it, so we won't guess.
Why there are two Grape Fritters
The most likely explanation is simple: popular bakery-strain names get reused. One JointCommerce guide says Grape Fritter is "more of a family than a single locked genotype," and describes a "Bakery Grape" phenotype (frosting, jelly-doughnut notes) and a "Gas Grape" one (darker, with rubber or fuel). That's an unsourced take, but it matches the split in the databases — and AllBud's mention of a diesel note in the aroma. Bottom line: when you see Grape Fritter on a menu, ask who grew it and which cut it is. We couldn't confirm which recipe Grow Sciences uses today.
Grape Fritter Terpene Profile
Leafly's terpene data puts caryophyllene on top, followed by myrcene and limonene — though its own written description calls myrcene dominant. Liberty Cannabis lists a different set for its cut: ocimene, pinene, fenchol and caryophyllene. Caryophyllene is the one with real research behind it: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Caryophyllene — pepper, warm spice, the pastry edge
Myrcene — ripe fruit, herbal, the relaxed body
Limonene — citrus lift and mood
Linalool — floral, soft calm
Estimated relative profile for Grape Fritter — order from Leafly's terpene data (caryophyllene, myrcene, limonene); linalool from an unsourced strain guide. Not lab-measured percentages. Liberty's cut lists ocimene, pinene and fenchol instead.
- Caryophyllene: The pepper and baking spice in the exhale, and almost certainly inherited from Apple Fritter, which Leafly also lists as caryophyllene-dominant.
- Myrcene: Ripe-fruit, herbal sweetness — the Grape Ape and Grape Cream Cake sides are both myrcene-led on Leafly — and a likely part of the relaxed, calm body.
- Limonene: A citrus top note and the bright mood lift. One Leafly reviewer smelled lemon citrus and evergreen in their jar.
- Linalool and humulene: Floral and woody minors that strain guides mention — plausible, but no lab data backs them.
The JointCommerce guide gives total terpene ranges of 1.5–3.0% for well-grown indoor flower, but it doesn't cite a lab. Treat any number you see as a ballpark until you're looking at the COA for your actual batch.
Appearance
AllBud describes dense, oversized, triangle-shaped forest-green nugs with bright purple undertones, long thin orange hairs and purple-tinted white trichomes. Liberty Cannabis sees chunky, slightly conical buds with lavender hues and a silvery coat of resin. One Leafly reviewer described sticky, spade-shaped, medium-green buds with orange hairs. The purple isn't guaranteed — strain guides say cooler nights late in flower bring it out — so a green jar isn't automatically a fake.
Aroma and Flavor
Open the jar and grape hits first — grape jelly, berries, a little grape soda — then sour green apple and something warm and doughy underneath. AllBud describes "sweet grapes" and "sour Granny Smith apples" with a nutty, doughy note, and compares the smell to a freshly baked apple fritter. Leafly's top flavors are grape, berry and apple, with spicy, fruity and herbal in the description. Liberty adds elderberry, tart fruit, floral sweetness and a creamy finish.
Not every jar smells the same. AllBud lists diesel among the aromas, and one Leafly reviewer got lemon and evergreen rather than grape. That fits the two-lineage story: the bakery-leaning cuts read like a jelly doughnut, while gassier cuts trade some sweetness for fuel and pine.
Recreational Effects
Grape Fritter is a feel-good, wind-down strain that doesn't wipe you out. On Leafly.ca it holds a 4.8 rating from 21 reviews, and the most-reported effects are:
- Euphoric: the headline effect. One reviewer called it "world class euphoria."
- Creative: a loose, idea-friendly headspace — Liberty describes "creative ease" without raciness.
- Giggly: a light, social silliness, which suits it to sessions with friends.
- Relaxed: a calm, grounded body. AllBud says the high builds slowly and doesn't bring couchlock; one Leafly reviewer says it "takes the edge off, without knocking me out."
- Heavier at higher doses: Liberty notes a bigger dose can bring full-body calm, and another Leafly reviewer warns it's "not for driving, too relaxing."
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 2–5 minutes: a mood lift and a warm, happy head.
- 30–60 minutes: the peak — euphoric, giggly and creative, with the body loosening.
- 2–3 hours: a slow settle into relaxation. Those timings come from a JointCommerce guide rather than a study, so treat them as typical, not fixed.
Because it's balanced, Grape Fritter works in the afternoon or evening. Save the big doses for when you're done for the day.

How Strong Is Grape Fritter?
Grape Fritter is a strong strain by any of the published numbers:
- Leafly: 23% THC and 1% CBG, "higher THC than average."
- AllBud: 27–28% THC.
- GrowDiaries: 28% THC, 0.1% CBD.
JointCommerce's 22–28% THCA range for indoor flower has no source behind it, but it lines up with the databases. Realistically, a well-grown Grape Fritter lands in the mid-to-high 20s — that's why the Leafly reviews keep warning about the relaxation sneaking up. If you're newer to THC, treat this as an experienced-user strain and go slow.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Grape Fritter against the 23–28% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Grape Fritter vs Apple Fritter: What's the Difference?
People search the two together a lot, so here's the short version. Apple Fritter is the parent — Sour Apple × Animal Cookies — with apple, butter and a cheesy funk on Leafly, and a tingly, relaxed, giggly high. Grape Fritter keeps the bakery base and the giggles but shifts the fruit to grape jelly and berries, and the grape parent (Grape Ape or Grape Cream Cake) adds more myrcene-style body calm. If Apple Fritter is a fresh-fried pastry, Grape Fritter is the jelly-filled one.
Where Grape Fritter Comes From: Grow Sciences and Arizona
Grow Sciences is the name attached to Grape Fritter on Leafly and GrowDiaries. Leafly describes the company as a Phoenix-based, Arizona-licensed producer that farms organically, and it also sells Apple Fritter flower — which makes an Apple Fritter cross a natural project. We couldn't find a release year or a breeder statement on how the strain was made, and Grow Sciences' own listing (Apple Fritter × Grape Cream Cake) disagrees with the Leafly strain page. Liberty Cannabis also sells a separate Grape Fritter cut under the Garcia Hand Picked line. Grape Fritter hasn't picked up any cup wins that we could find; its reputation is built on reviews, not trophies.
Grape Fritter vs Similar Strains
- vs Grape Ape: a possible parent and much sleepier. Grape Ape is straight grape candy and heavy body; Grape Fritter is brighter and giggly, with pastry spice.
- vs Grape Cream Cake: the other possible parent. It runs vanilla, grape and nutty and leans relaxed and sleepy; Grape Fritter adds sour apple and more head.
- vs Grape Pie: grape-and-crust dessert flavor in the same family, if the Grape Cream Cake version is right.
- vs Granddaddy Purple: the old-school grape-and-berry purple strain. GDP is the heavier nightcap; Grape Fritter is more social.
- vs Fritter Mintz: another Apple Fritter offshoot, trading grape for a cooler, minty finish.
- vs Dayglow Mousse: our featured in-stock pick, and honestly not a twin. Both are sweet, dessert-fruit hybrids with an easygoing high, but Dayglow Mousse runs creamy fruit-mousse rather than grape jelly and baked apple. Want the concentrate version? Our Dayglow Mousse live rosin is the solventless option on our shelf.
Who Grape Fritter Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: grape and dessert-flavor fans, afternoon and evening smokers, people who want to unwind without being knocked out, creative downtime and giggly sessions with friends.
Poor fit: first-timers (the THC numbers run high), anyone who needs to drive or work afterward, and people who want a crisp, focused daytime strain. For a sweet, dessert-fruit flower on our shelf, Dayglow Mousse is the pick, from $59.
How to Use Grape Fritter THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the grape and apple. Lower temperatures, around 350–380°F, keep the fruit and jelly notes bright; 390–410°F brings out the pepper and pastry spice.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one small puff, then wait 15–30 minutes — with numbers in the high 20s, a little goes a long way. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full euphoric-then-relaxed arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Anxiety: the most-cited reason on Leafly, at about 60% of reviewers. One uses it in the afternoon when stressed or anxious.
- Depression and low mood: about 45% of Leafly reviewers, consistent with the euphoric headline effect.
- Stress: about 35% of Leafly reviewers; AllBud lists stress too.
- Pain, cramps and muscle spasms: listed by AllBud, and one Leafly reviewer praised its pain relief.
- Appetite loss and nausea: also on AllBud's list.

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth — the only negative Leafly lists for Grape Fritter.
- Heavy relaxation and sleepiness — individual reviews mention extreme sleepiness, especially at higher doses.
- Impairment — one reviewer flatly says it's not for driving. Don't.
Is Grape Fritter good for sleep? It can be at higher doses, thanks to the relaxed body, but at small doses it's more euphoric than sedating. Talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Grape Fritter Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Ask which cut it is. With two competing lineages, the grower and the parents on the label matter. Grow Sciences is the documented source.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Grape and pastry. A real Grape Fritter has grape or berry over sour apple and doughy spice. Flat, hay-like or purely earthy flower is old or mislabeled.
- Dense, frosty buds — chunky, triangle-shaped nugs with heavy resin. Purple is a bonus, not a requirement.
- A proper cure — slightly springy, not crumbly; a grass smell means it was rushed.
Growing Grape Fritter
GrowDiaries rates Grape Fritter as suited to moderately experienced growers, with oversized, triangle-shaped buds.
- Flowering: about 70 days per GrowDiaries; strain guides range from 56–63 days to 8–10 weeks, which again points to different cuts.
- Yield: up to about 500 g/m² indoors per GrowDiaries, if temperature and humidity stay stable.
- Height: medium-tall. Top early and use low-stress training to keep an even canopy.
- Color: a 3–5°C drop in night temperature late in flower may help bring out the purple, per one strain guide.
- Seeds and clones: availability is thin — GrowDiaries shows no logged harvests yet — so most people will meet Grape Fritter as finished flower, not seeds.
