Purple Milk Strain: Grape Soda, Vanilla Cream and a Calm Euphoria
The Purple Milk strain is a hybrid that smells like grape candy poured over vanilla cream, with a little spice and gas underneath. Most reviewers describe a euphoric, happy lift that settles into a calm, relaxed body without sinking you into the couch, unless you smoke a lot of it late at night. On Leafly the top-reported effects are relaxed, focused and euphoric, and the top flavors are vanilla, berry and grape. It belongs in the dessert-and-grape corner of our THCA flower collection.
The complication is that "Purple Milk" isn't one plant. At least three unrelated lineages are sold under the name: Compound Genetics' Horchata × Grape Gas S1, a Purple OG Kush × Bubba Kush cross listed by Leafly and AllBud, and Aeriz's Purple Punch × Cereal Milk. Below we lay out who says what, then cover how the strain smells and hits, how strong it is, how to use it, how to grow it and how to judge a bag.

Quick Facts
In short: A creamy grape-and-vanilla hybrid with a euphoric, calming high. Several unrelated lineages are sold under the name, so the cut you get depends on who grew it.

Purple Milk Strain Genetics & Lineage
- Type: Hybrid. Sources disagree on the lean: AllBud calls it 60% sativa, while SeedFinder and the California grower Hendrx Farm call it indica-dominant. Leafly says its effects are "mostly calming."
- Ancestry: Disputed, with three competing family trees (see below).
- Breeder: SeedFinder credits Compound Genetics, and Weedmaps names Chris Lynch of Compound Genetics. Leafly credits only "an artisanal breeder."
- THC: Anywhere from the high teens to the high 20s, depending on the cut (see the potency section).
- CBD: Negligible. Leafly lists 0%, and one user-posted lab report on Leafly shows 0.06%.
- Aliases: Leafly abbreviates it PrplMlk and Prp.
Three Purple Milks: who says what
This is the biggest point of confusion around the strain, and most strain pages pick one version and ignore the others. Here's each one with its source:
- Horchata × Grape Gas S1 (Compound Genetics). SeedFinder and Hendrx Farm list Horchata × Grape Gasoline S1, and Weedmaps' description says the same, adding that Horchata passes down notes from Mochi. Grape Gas is Compound's own Grape Pie × Jet Fuel Gelato. This is the cut with the most breeder documentation behind it, and it matches the "sweet, creamy, gas-forward" description.
- Purple OG Kush × Bubba Kush. Leafly and AllBud both list this lineage, and so does Weedmaps' parents box, which contradicts its own description. One Leafly reviewer pointed out the oddity: two indica parents producing a strain AllBud calls sativa-dominant. No breeder is named for this version.
- Purple Punch × Cereal Milk (Aeriz). The Illinois aeroponic grower Aeriz sells a Purple Milk with this lineage, rated at 17–21% THC.
A fourth claim is also in circulation. A 2026 JointCommerce guide says the lineage is Grape Gas crossed with a dessert strain "most commonly cited as Cereal Milk," but gives no source. Our read is that several breeders used the same catchy name. The grape side is consistent across versions, and the "milk" comes from either Horchata (a sweet, milky drink) or Cereal Milk. If the menu names the grower, check which version you're buying.
Descendants
SeedFinder lists a cross of Ultraviolet × Sizzurrp from Alchemy Genetics as a Purple Milk descendant.
Purple Milk Terpene Profile
As with the lineage, the terpene data depends on the cut. Leafly's lab-sourced data lists caryophyllene as the most abundant terpene, followed by humulene and linalool. Leafly's written description says myrcene, which contradicts its own lab data. For the Compound Genetics cut, Hendrx Farm and SeedFinder list limonene first, then linalool, caryophyllene, both pinenes and myrcene. Caryophyllene is a notable lead because a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the kush backbone
Limonene — bright citrus over the grape
Linalool — floral, the lavender-calm note
Myrcene — earthy, relaxed body
Humulene — woody, hoppy dryness
A blended picture of Purple Milk across sources: caryophyllene-led per Leafly's lab data, limonene-led in the Compound Genetics cut per Hendrx and SeedFinder. Your batch will lean one way.
- Caryophyllene: The peppery spice under the cream. It is the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
- Limonene: The citrus lift that AllBud describes as "lemony," and the lead terpene in Compound's cut. It is linked to the euphoric opening.
- Linalool: The floral, lavender-like note, and likely part of why Purple Milk reads calm rather than racy.
- Myrcene: Earthy and musky, it gives the body its relaxed floor, especially in evening sessions.
- Humulene: Woody and hoppy, it adds the dry, slightly herbal edge to the finish.
The vanilla-cream character doesn't come from any one terpene. It's the dessert side of the family, from Horchata or Cereal Milk, showing through the overall chemistry.
Appearance
Purple Milk usually looks the part. AllBud describes dense, grape-shaped emerald-green nugs with deep purple leaves, thin orange hairs and bright white trichomes. Weedmaps notes "vibrant greens and true purples" with thick orange pistils. Leafly reviewers describe dark green buds with red and purple hints, dense and sticky, and one describes multi-shouldered, spade-shaped buds with short rust-colored hairs. The Compound Genetics cut is known for frost: Hendrx calls it "silver-lined" and "glassy." How purple it gets depends on the cut and the grow, because cooler late-flower nights bring out more color.
Aroma and Flavor
Open a jar and grape comes first, sweet and candy-like, followed by vanilla cream and a spicy, floral kush note. Break a bud and you may get earth, pine and a little gas. The smoke is where Purple Milk earns its name. Reviewers consistently describe a creamy, almost buttery taste over a musky grape base, with lemony citrus on some cuts.
- Leafly: vanilla, berry and grape as top flavors. Reviewers add nutty, gas, pine and menthol notes.
- AllBud: "sweet and creamy vanilla kush" with fruity grape and lemony citrus, over a spicy, floral kush aroma.
- Weedmaps: sweet and creamy with a touch of spice from Horchata, and a fruity grape note with a candy-like finish from Grape Gasoline.
- Aeriz: fresh berries, then floral, earthy and soft-citrus notes, "rounded out with a touch of cream."
A dispensary reviewer at Stoned Coast made a useful observation: the nose was earthy, woody and piney with a grapefruit-like sweetness, while the smoke tasted creamy and buttery over grape. That gap between aroma and taste is common with this strain, so taste a cut before writing it off from the smell.
Recreational Effects
Purple Milk is a mood strain first. Leafly users most often report:
- Relaxed: the top-reported effect. The body loosens without going heavy at moderate doses.
- Euphoric and happy: a warm, mood-lifting opening that some reviewers call giggly.
- Focused: more clear-headed than its calm reputation suggests, at least early on.
- Creative: listed by Aeriz and AllBud, and mentioned in Leafly's description.
AllBud describes a "slow, creeping" build that starts in the head and moves into the body. Aeriz calls the effects "even-keeled," saying the strain eases tension without fully sedating. Late at night, it gets sleepy. The Stoned Coast reviewer got very drowsy after a full evening bowl, but on the next session packed a smaller bowl and got the uplifting side without the drowsiness.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 5–10 minutes: a gentle head change and mood lift. This isn't a fast, overwhelming hitter.
- 15–60 minutes: the peak, euphoric and happy, with the body relaxing as the high creeps down.
- 1–3 hours: a slow settle. At higher doses or late in the day, this is where sleepiness and hunger show up.
Is Purple Milk a good strain? Reviewers think so: it rates 4.5 stars on Leafly and 4.6 on AllBud, though both from small sample sizes. It's best for people who want a calm, happy, flavorful high rather than a racy one.

How Strong Is Purple Milk?
Purple Milk's potency numbers vary as widely as its lineage, which tells you the name covers different plants:
- Leafly: its header lists 13% THC and its description "around 18–22%." One user-posted lab report on Leafly shows 28.02% THC and 31.71% THCA.
- Aeriz (Purple Punch × Cereal Milk): 17–21% average.
- AllBud: 27%, with a stated range of 13–27%.
- Hendrx Farm (Compound cut): 21–29% in one place and 28–35% in another on the same page.
- SeedFinder (Compound cut): 28–35%, which reads like breeder marketing rather than measured data.
The realistic picture: most dispensary Purple Milk tests in the high teens to mid-20s, and the Compound Genetics cut can run higher. It's a moderate-to-strong strain, and its slow creep makes it feel gentler than its number.
Are purple strains stronger? No. Purple color comes from anthocyanin pigments, which depend on genetics and cool late-flower temperatures. Color has nothing to do with THC. A purple bud can test lower than a green one, so judge potency on the lab report, not the color.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Purple Milk batch against the 18–29% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Purple Milk vs Similar Strains
- vs Grape Gas: the gassier, louder parent of the Compound cut. Purple Milk swaps some of the fuel for vanilla cream and a calmer finish.
- vs Purple Punch: the grape-candy dessert parent of the Aeriz cut. Purple Punch is sweeter and more sedating, while Purple Milk is creamier and a bit more upbeat.
- vs Cereal Milk: the sweet-cream side. Cereal Milk is lighter and more uplifting, and Purple Milk adds grape and a heavier body.
- vs Granddaddy Purple: the classic purple grape indica. GDP is heavier and sleepier, and Purple Milk is more euphoric and social.
- vs Super Boof: our closest match in stock. It comes from the Purple Punch family through Black Cherry Punch and shares the dark-fruit-and-cream profile, a faint gas edge, and a social lift that settles into a relaxed body. It doesn't have the same grape-vanilla sweetness, and it reads more cherry and orange.
Who Purple Milk Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: evening and low-key social sessions; anyone who wants a calm, happy high with dessert flavor; intermediate users who want relaxation without heavy sedation.
Poor fit: anyone after a sharp, energetic daytime high, and people who want a knockout sleep strain. Purple Milk only gets heavy at higher doses. For more fuel and a heavier, indica-leaning body, Mule Fuel and Permanent Marker are the gassier picks on our shelf.
How to Use Purple Milk THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the cream and grape. Around 350–375°F keeps the sweet top notes, and 390–410°F brings out the spice and the body.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–20 minutes, because the high creeps rather than hits. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full arc. If you want it daytime-friendly, keep the bowl small. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Anxiety: the most-cited reason on Leafly, from about 42% of reviewers, though "paranoid" also appears among its negatives, so dose matters.
- Pain: reported by about 34% of Leafly reviewers. AllBud reviewers also mention arthritis and neuropathy discomfort.
- Low mood: about 22% on Leafly, consistent with the euphoric, happy headline effect.
- Stress and winding down: AllBud lists chronic stress, and reviewers describe it as an evening decompressor.

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes: the most common complaints.
- Dizziness: one of Leafly's top-listed negatives, usually from taking too much too fast.
- Paranoia: uncommon, but reported, especially at high doses or low tolerance.
- Sleepiness and munchies: part of the late-session effect. Aeriz lists "hunger" as an effect.
Don't drive after using Purple Milk, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
How to Judge a Good Bag of Purple Milk
- Ask which Purple Milk. A good seller knows whether it's the Compound Genetics cut (Horchata × Grape Gas), the Bubba Kush cross or the Purple Punch × Cereal Milk version. Shrugging means they don't know their supply.
- Grape and cream together. The name promises both. A jar that smells only earthy or only like gas is likely a different cut or a stale one.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Frost over color. Purple is pretty but says nothing about potency. Look for trichomes all the way into the bud.
- A proper cure: slightly sticky, never wet or crumbly-dry, with no hay or grass smell.
Growing Purple Milk
Grow data comes mostly from the Compound Genetics cut. Hendrx Farm says it fits well into large commercial systems, and SeedFinder describes "commercial-scale yields" and heavy resin.
- Flowering: about 56–63 days indoors (8–9 weeks), per SeedFinder and Hendrx.
- Outdoors: harvest in early to mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere. Hendrx notes the Grape Gas S1 side adapts well outdoors.
- Color: a drop in night temperatures in late flower brings out the purples.
- Resin: heavy, which makes it a strong extract candidate. Aeriz's Purple Milk Live Rosin Badder placed 2nd in non-solvent concentrates at Leafly's Best in Grass 2024.
- Seeds and clones: SeedFinder lists Compound Genetics feminized seeds, and clone nurseries also carry cuts. Confirm the lineage before you buy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Purple Milk a sativa or indica?
Purple Milk is a hybrid, and sources disagree on the lean. AllBud lists it 60% sativa, while SeedFinder and Hendrx Farm call the Compound Genetics cut indica-dominant. Most reviewers describe the effects as calming and relaxed, so most people treat it as an evening hybrid.
Is Purple Milk a good strain?
Reviewers rate it well: 4.5 stars on Leafly and 4.6 on AllBud, from small samples. People like it for its grape-and-vanilla-cream flavor and a calm, euphoric high that doesn't knock you out at moderate doses.
What is Purple Milk a cross of?
It depends on the cut. Compound Genetics' Purple Milk is Horchata × Grape Gas S1, per SeedFinder and Hendrx Farm. Leafly and AllBud list Purple OG Kush × Bubba Kush, and the grower Aeriz sells a Purple Punch × Cereal Milk version.
Who bred Purple Milk?
SeedFinder credits Compound Genetics, and Weedmaps names Chris Lynch of Compound Genetics. Leafly credits only 'an artisanal breeder' for its Purple OG Kush × Bubba Kush version.
How strong is Purple Milk?
Most sources place it from the high teens to the high 20s: Leafly 18–22%, Aeriz 17–21%, AllBud up to 27%, and Hendrx 21–29%. SeedFinder's 28–35% claim reads like breeder marketing. Check the COA for your batch.
Are purple strains stronger?
No. Purple color comes from anthocyanin pigments, driven by genetics and cool late-flower temperatures. It has no connection to THC. Judge potency on the lab report, not the color.
What does Purple Milk taste like?
Grape and vanilla cream, with berry, a little lemony citrus and a spicy, floral kush finish. Reviewers describe the smoke as creamy, even buttery.
What are the effects of Purple Milk?
Relaxed, euphoric, happy and somewhat focused at first, then a slow creep into a calm body. At high doses or late at night it can get sleepy and bring on the munchies.
Is Purple Milk good for sleep?
It can be at higher doses in the evening. Reviewers report getting drowsy after a full late-night bowl. At small doses it stays relaxed and upbeat rather than sedating.
Is Purple Milk good for anxiety?
About 42% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, the most-cited use. 'Paranoid' also shows up among its negatives, so start with a small dose. This is consumer-reported, not medical advice.
Is Purple Milk on Leafly?
Yes. Leafly lists Purple Milk as a hybrid (Bubba Kush × Purple OG Kush) with caryophyllene, humulene and linalool as its top terpenes, and vanilla, berry and grape as its top flavors.
How long does Purple Milk take to flower?
About 56–63 days indoors for the Compound Genetics cut, with outdoor harvests in early to mid-October.
