Spritzer Strain

Spritzer Strain: Colorado's Grape-and-Cherry Candy Hybrid

The Spritzer strain is a high-THC hybrid from Cannarado Genetics in Colorado — Runtz crossed with a Grape Pie × MAC selection. Open a jar and you get crushed grape, dark cherry and a squeeze of citrus, with pepper and a faint gas underneath. The high starts in the head — happy, uplifted, talkative — then drifts into the body. Smoke a little and it's an easy late-afternoon strain. Smoke half a joint and, as one Colorado reviewer put it, you'll be sinking into the couch with the munchies. For sweet, fruit-forward flower in the same spirit, start with our THCA flower collection.

Spritzer is also a breeder's favorite. SeedFinder counts 52 direct descendants — a big number for a strain that was never sold as feminized seeds. But the numbers online are all over the place: THC listings run from 19% to 32%, it's called both 50/50 and indica-dominant, and two databases list a 2% CBD figure that nothing else backs up. Below: what the breeder-linked sources actually say, how the high unfolds, what the potency numbers mean, and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at Spritzer's frosty buds.

Spritzer Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. AllBud and GrowDiaries call it roughly 50/50, and Theory Wellness describes an "evenly balanced hybrid." SeedFinder calls it indica-dominant, even though the plant grows with sativa-like long internodes and narrow leaflets. Leafly says its reported effects are "mostly calming."
  • Breeder: Cannarado Genetics, the Colorado breeder, per SeedFinder, GrowDiaries, Weedmaps and Westword. Leafly and AllBud don't name a breeder.
  • Parents: Runtz × (Grape Pie × Miracle Alien Cookies) — the same pedigree on AllBud, SeedFinder and GrowDiaries. Leafly writes it as "Runtz with Grape Pie and MAC." One retailer, Theory Wellness, writes "Grape Cream Pie" in one spot and "Grape Pie" in another.
  • THC: 19–23% on AllBud, about 25% typical on SeedFinder (up to 32%), up to 28% on GrowDiaries, and 32% on Leafly.
  • Other cannabinoids: Leafly lists 1% CBG. AllBud and GrowDiaries list about 2% CBD — see the potency section for why we'd treat that with caution.
  • Abbreviation: Leafly uses "Spz."

Where the grandparents come from

SeedFinder fills in the family tree one level up (it marks a few links as "probably"):

  • Runtz — The Original Z (Zkittlez) × Gelato. That's where the candy-fruit sweetness and the dessert-style bag appeal come from.
  • Grape Pie — Cherry Pie × Grape Stomper. The likely source of the grape, the dark cherry and the purple color.
  • MAC (Miracle Alien Cookies) — Alien Cookies × (Colombian × Starfighter). MAC is famous for resin and a creamy, peppery-citrus finish — a good guess for the pepper and frost.

Why is it called Spritzer?

We couldn't find Cannarado explaining the name. A spritzer is wine topped with soda — light, fruity and fizzy — and that's how most reviewers read it. Beard Bros says the name suits the strain's "sparkling, fruity character." Westword's strain review goes one better, saying the nose is closer to a mimosa than white wine: tangerine, grape and blue raspberry with a little gas and yeast. Take the name as a flavor cue, not a backstory.

Spritzer's offspring

For a clone-and-pack-seed strain, Spritzer gets used a lot. SeedFinder lists 52 direct descendants, including Cannarado's own Black Spritzer (× GrumpZ), Terpdawg Seeds' Blue Monster Cookies (Permanent Marker × Spritzer) and Baby Yoda, Offensive Selections' Category 5 (× Hellcat), Dancing Sprite (White Runtz × Spritzer), N.Y.Ceeds' Cambodian BreaZt Milk (Cereal Milk × Spritzer), and Aqualung Gardens' Black Vinyl, which runs through a Spritzer × Horchata cross.

Spritzer Terpene Profile

Leafly lists caryophyllene as Spritzer's dominant terpene, followed by limonene and linalool. GrowDiaries also names caryophyllene as dominant, and Beard Bros adds myrcene. One long guide gives ranges — caryophyllene 0.4–0.9%, limonene 0.3–0.7% — and a trace of pinene, but cites no lab, so treat those as ballpark. Caryophyllene is the one with real research behind it: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the warm finish

Limonene — citrus, grapefruit, the bright lift

Linalool — floral, soft calm

Myrcene — ripe fruit, earthy, body weight

Estimated relative profile for Spritzer — order from Leafly's terpene ranking (caryophyllene, limonene, linalool); myrcene from Beard Bros. Not measured lab percentages.

  • Caryophyllene: The pepper and spice under the fruit — the "black pepper" note Theory Wellness and Weedmaps describe, and probably the "peppery" taste a few AllBud reviewers didn't love.
  • Limonene: The citrus and grapefruit top note, and part of why the first few minutes feel uplifting.
  • Linalool: Floral and soft — likely behind the "flowery" flavor that 37% of Weedmaps reviewers report.
  • Myrcene: Ripe fruit and earth, and often tied to body heaviness. Plausible here given the couch-lock at higher doses, but not lab-confirmed.

No single terpene is "grape." The grape-and-cherry nose comes from the whole blend plus the Grape Pie side's esters — which is why fresh, well-cured Spritzer smells so different from old, dried-out flower.

Appearance

Spritzer is a looker, but phenotypes differ. Westword's strain review describes most cuts as intense purple and olive green, with gnarled calyxes that tend to foxtail and a light structure that dries out fast. Beard Bros sees dense, round buds in deep purple and dark green — sometimes with a blue tint — with bright orange pistils and heavy trichome coverage. AllBud describes the green phenotype: oversized, piecey, spade-shaped neon-green nugs with lots of thin orange hairs and a coat of tiny golden-amber trichomes. Purple shows up more when the plant gets cool nights late in flower.

Aroma and Flavor

Crack a jar and you get candy fruit first — crushed grape, dark cherry and a squeeze of citrus, per Weedmaps' description — then pepper, earth and a light gas. Here's what each source picked up:

  • Leafly: apricot, grapefruit and an "ammonia" funk; reviewers add fruit punch, sweet candy, grape, pine, vanilla and gas.
  • AllBud: berry, cherry, fruity and sweet flavors over a diesel, earthy, flowery, grape, nutty, pungent and spicy aroma.
  • Westword: tangerine, grape and blue raspberry with subtle gas and yeast. The smoke is less sweet than the smell — sweet orange wins, with grape and berry behind it and a doughy aftertaste.
  • Theory Wellness and SeedFinder: cherry, berry, grape, citrus and fresh flowers, with earth and black pepper.

A couple of AllBud reviewers found the smoke harsh and peppery. That fits a caryophyllene-forward strain — and it's one reason Spritzer is popular as live rosin and wax, where the fruit comes through cleaner.

Recreational Effects

Spritzer is a head-first, body-second hybrid. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.6 rating from 172 reviews, the top effects are relaxed, tingly and aroused. Weedmaps reviewers split it evenly: relaxed (37%), uplifted (37%) and euphoric (27%). Here's how it usually reads:

  • Uplifted and happy: a quick mood lift — AllBud lists euphoric, happy, creative and sociable.
  • Talkative: GrowDiaries reviewers call it uplifted and talkative, a good fit for hanging out.
  • Relaxed body: Westword describes relief from stress, stomach tension and headaches as the body side kicks in.
  • Hungry: the munchies are "almost unavoidable," per Westword, and Weedmaps says the same.
  • Sleepy at bigger doses: more than half a joint brought on strong sedation for Westword's reviewer, and the Rocky Mountain Collegian's reviewer found a Spritzer live sugar wax drowsy and sleep-friendly.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First few minutes: a cerebral, happy lift.
  • 15–45 minutes: the peak — uplifted and social with a warm, tingly body underneath.
  • 1–3 hours: a slow slide into the body. Low doses stay functional; high doses get heavy and hungry. SeedFinder calls it long-lasting and better for the evening, though a few AllBud reviewers felt it faded sooner.

Beard Bros calls it rarely sedating at typical doses, while Westword and the Collegian reviewer found it sedating. Both can be true — it depends on how much you smoke and how tired you already are. Westword notes that with energy to spare it stays mental, and when you're tired it can drop you hard.

How Strong Is Spritzer?

Spritzer is a high-THC strain, but the published numbers disagree:

  • Leafly: 32% THC and 1% CBG — "higher THC than average."
  • SeedFinder: about 25% in most conditions, up to 32%.
  • GrowDiaries: up to 28% THC.
  • AllBud: 19–23% THC.
  • Retail flower: Weedmaps flower listings mostly sit around 25–28%.

Realistically, a well-grown Spritzer lands in the mid-20s. The 32% figure is the top end, not the norm. And the 1–2% CBD that AllBud and GrowDiaries list is unusual for a modern Runtz-family hybrid; one long guide puts it under 0.5%, and we found no lab report either way. Concentrates are another story — a Billo live sugar wax tested 82.8% THC, so dose wax and rosin far more carefully than flower.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Spritzer against the 19–32% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Spritzer as Live Rosin and Wax

Beard Bros says Spritzer became a favorite in the solventless world, where resin quality and terpene clarity matter. In Colorado, Westword's reviewer liked Mountain Select's Spritzer live rosin best after Den-Rec's flower, and The Bank's cut is extracted for PAX cartridges. The Collegian reviewed Billo's live sugar wax at 82.8% THC — sour, lemony and "zesty," with a smooth hit. If the flower smoke feels peppery or harsh, a concentrate is often the cleaner way to taste the grape-and-citrus side.

Where Spritzer Is Sold

Spritzer started in Colorado — Westword counted about two dozen dispensaries carrying it, including Den-Rec, Euflora, the Clinic, Oasis Cannabis Superstores and Twin Peaks. It has since spread: Niche sells Spritzer flower and pre-rolls in New Jersey, Theory Wellness grows it in Massachusetts, and District Cannabis carries it in Maryland. One heads-up from Westword: because the buds are light and airy, they tend to arrive dry. Check the cure before you buy.

Spritzer vs Similar Strains

  • vs Runtz: the parent. Runtz is pure candy and a balanced high; Spritzer adds grape, dark cherry and pepper, and leans heavier at higher doses.
  • vs Grape Pie: the other parent's side. Grape Pie is baked grape and cherry dessert; Spritzer is brighter and more citrusy, thanks to the Runtz.
  • vs Grape Runtz: the closest flavor cousin — grape candy from the Runtz line. Spritzer carries more cherry and pepper.
  • vs MAC: the grandparent behind the resin. MAC is creamy citrus and a clear head; Spritzer is fruitier and more relaxing.
  • vs Mimosa: Westword compared Spritzer's nose to a mimosa. Mimosa itself is orange-forward and energizing, while Spritzer is grapier and more relaxing.
  • vs Lemon Cherry Gelato: our featured in-stock pick, and honestly a cousin, not a twin. Both come from the Gelato side of the family and share sweet cherry, citrus candy and a happy, relaxing high. Lemon Cherry Gelato runs lemon and cherry where Spritzer adds grape and pepper. Want the concentrate side? Our Dayglow Mousse live rosin is the solventless option on our shelf.

Who Spritzer Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: grape and candy-fruit fans, late-afternoon and evening smokers, social sessions, anyone looking to unwind after work, and people who want their appetite back.

Poor fit: anyone who needs to stay sharp and productive all day at higher doses, beginners who aren't ready for a 25%+ strain, and anyone sensitive to peppery smoke. For a sweet cherry-citrus hybrid on our shelf, Lemon Cherry Gelato is the pick, from $69 for a half ounce.

How to Use Spritzer THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the grape and cherry without the pepper bite. Lower temperatures, around 350–380°F, keep the fruit bright; 390–410°F brings out the spice and the heavier body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–30 minutes — Westword's reviewer found more than half a joint sedating. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full arc. With wax or rosin, start with a rice-grain-sized dab. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly, AllBud, GrowDiaries and Westword, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Anxiety: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 35% of reviewers). Theory Wellness also describes it as good for tasks "without anxiety."
  • Stress: about 24% of Leafly reviewers; Westword noticed reduced stress too.
  • Low mood: about 18% of Leafly reviewers mention depression; AllBud lists it as well.
  • Pain, inflammation and headaches: AllBud lists chronic pain and inflammation; Westword noticed fewer headaches and less stomach tension.
  • Low appetite and sleep: the munchies are well documented, and higher doses can help with winding down.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly and GrowDiaries.
  • Headache and dizziness — reported by a minority on Leafly and GrowDiaries.
  • Harsh, peppery smoke — one AllBud reviewer coughed on every hit.
  • Sedation and munchies — at higher doses, plan for the couch and the kitchen.

Is Spritzer good for sleep? At a bigger dose it can be — but at a small dose it's more mood lift than sleep aid. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Spritzer Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask for the cut. Spritzer comes from Cannarado Genetics and was never sold as feminized seeds, so a real one traces back to a Cannarado clone. Ask the seller where theirs came from.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 32%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Grape and cherry up front. A real Spritzer smells like candy fruit with pepper underneath. Flat, earthy flower with no fruit is old or mislabeled.
  • Not bone-dry. The airy buds lose moisture fast. Crumbly, dusty nugs mean the terpenes are already gone.
  • Visible frost. Purple or neon green, it should be coated in trichomes and sticky to the touch.

Growing Spritzer

Spritzer is a stretchy plant that rewards training.

  • Flowering: about 8–9 weeks indoors per SeedFinder and Beard Bros; outdoors it finishes around early October. One Leafly grower called the flowering time long.
  • Height and stretch: GrowDiaries calls it tall and lanky, and a Leafly grower says it "stretched in flower like crazy." Beard Bros notes strong lateral branching, which suits topping and a screen.
  • Yield: "medium," per that Leafly grower. We found no reliable g/m² figure.
  • Color: cooler nights late in flower bring out the purple.
  • Airflow: Beard Bros recommends good airflow and humidity control, then a slow dry and cure to keep the terpenes.
  • Seeds: SeedFinder says Spritzer was never available as feminized seeds. Its many offspring lines are easier to find than the original.

How strong is Spritzer?

Reported THC runs from 19–23% on AllBud to about 25% typical on SeedFinder and 32% on Leafly. Retail flower usually tests in the mid-to-high 20s, and concentrates are far stronger — one Spritzer live sugar wax tested 82.8% THC.

What does Spritzer taste like?

Crushed grape, dark cherry, berry and citrus candy up front, with pepper, earth and a light gas behind. Westword found the smoke less sweet than the smell, with sweet orange winning out.
