Strawberry Cheesecake Strain

Strawberry Cheesecake Strain: A Dessert Name With Two Family Trees

The Strawberry Cheesecake strain is an indica-dominant dessert cultivar that smells the way it sounds — sweet, creamy strawberry with a cheesy, buttery tang underneath. It also carries one of the more confusing backstories in the seed world. Humboldt Seed Company sells a Strawberry Cheesecake built from a Forum cut of GSC and its own Purple Panty Dropper. Heavyweight Seeds sells a completely different Strawberry Cheesecake from Chronic, White Widow and Cheese. Same name, same dessert, two unrelated plants.

What they share is the experience people come back for: a happy, euphoric start that melts into heavy body relaxation — and, for plenty of Leafly reviewers, sleep. Below: which cut is which, what the potency claims actually rest on, the terpenes, how the high unfolds, how to grow it and how to judge a bag. Want a creamy dessert flower tonight? Strawberry Cheesecake Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Indica-dominant hybrid. Leafly lists it as an indica; AllBud and SeedFinder both give it a 70/30 indica-to-sativa ratio.
  • Breeders: two. Humboldt Seed Company (Humboldt County, California) for the GSC × Purple Panty Dropper version; Heavyweight Seeds for the Chronic × White Widow × Cheese version.
  • THC: Leafly lists 28% and says "over 27%"; Humboldt Seed Company advertises 28–30%; Weedmaps and SeedFinder list Heavyweight's cut at 22% THC and 1.3% CBD. AllBud says THC averages up to 22%, with about 2% CBD.
  • Aliases: STC (Leafly's abbreviation), Strawberry Cake and Strawberry Cheese Cake (both used for the Heavyweight version).

The Humboldt Seed Company cut: Forum GSC × Purple Panty Dropper

This is the version Leafly describes. The breeder's own wording, quoted on SeedFinder, calls it "the result of generations of backcrossing our P.P.D. and the Forum Cut of G.S.C." In plain terms:

  • Forum cut GSC — the most famous clone of Girl Scout Cookies, and the source of the dessert sweetness, the frost and much of the potency.
  • Purple Panty Dropper — a Humboldt Seed Company house line that SeedFinder traces to Matanuska Mist × Oregon Grape × (probably) Purple Haze, backcrossed eight times. It's the likely source of the dark, purple-tinged coloring growers report.

Humboldt sells it as feminized and regular seeds plus an autoflower, and SeedFinder notes at least five newer crosses built on it, including Strawberry Pop Rocks (Anesia Seeds) and Frosted Fruit (Jamie Cee's).

The Heavyweight Seeds cut: Chronic × White Widow × Cheese

This is the version AllBud, Weedmaps, NuggMD and Theory Wellness describe. SeedFinder's Heavyweight Seeds entry fills in the family tree:

  • Chronic — shown as a Northern Lights, Skunk and AK-47 blend. JointCommerce credits Serious Seeds with Chronic in the 1990s.
  • White Widow — the Brazilian sativa × South Indian indica classic, for resin and a clear head.
  • Cheese — the Exodus Cheese cut, a Skunk #1 selection from the UK. This is where the funky, savory "cheese" in the name actually comes from.

Weedmaps notes this version is also called Strawberry Cake, and SeedFinder lists a Strawberry Cake Auto from the same breeder.

So which one did you buy?

Honestly, you often can't tell from a dispensary label. The Humboldt cut tends to be the high-THC, purple-leaning, strawberry-jam version; the Heavyweight cut runs closer to 22% THC with noticeable CBD and a louder cheese funk. If a seller can name the breeder, that settles it. If they can't, judge it by the nose and the COA. We couldn't find either breeder's release year, and neither breeder explains the name beyond the obvious — it smells like strawberry cheesecake.

Strawberry Cheesecake Terpene Profile

Leafly lists limonene, caryophyllene and pinene as the dominant terpenes. NuggMD adds myrcene, and a Humboldt seed retailer lists caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene. None of these sources publishes percentages, so treat the order as a rough guide. Caryophyllene is the one with real research behind it: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Limonene — sweet citrus lift over the berry

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the savory edge

Myrcene — earthy, musky, heavy body

Pinene — pine and a little clarity

Estimated relative profile for Strawberry Cheesecake — limonene, caryophyllene and pinene per Leafly's dominant-terpene listing; myrcene from NuggMD and a seed retailer. No source publishes lab percentages, so these bars are estimates, not test results.

  • Limonene: The bright, sweet top note that keeps the berry from tasting flat — and part of the happy, euphoric start reviewers describe.
  • Caryophyllene: Pepper and spice. One AllBud reviewer found their batch "too spicy and not sweet enough," which is caryophyllene showing through.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and musky. It's often linked with heavier, couch-leaning strains, which fits the sleepy reputation — though that link is debated.
  • Pinene: A faint pine edge, listed by Leafly but rarely noticed under the dessert.

No single terpene makes "cheesecake." The cream-and-cheese note is a blend effect — and in the Heavyweight cut, the Exodus Cheese parent adds sulfur-type funk that standard terpene panels don't even measure.

Appearance

AllBud describes small, round, dense, pebble-shaped nugs in forest green with dark olive leaves, orange hairs and a frosty coat of white trichomes. NuggMD paints a showier picture — sage and emerald buds with "glittery" orange hairs and a subtle purple sheen. On Leafly, one reviewer describes nugs "dark, almost black in some spots," and GrowDiaries growers of the Humboldt cut report purple, lime-green and orange colors, with some plants fading to red hues early in flower. That purple-to-near-black streak most likely comes from the Purple Panty Dropper side.

Aroma and Flavor

Open the jar and it's sweet strawberry first — Humboldt seed listings call it "strawberry jam" — then cream, then a buttery, cheesy tang. Leafly's flavor tags read cheese, strawberry and butter, and reviewers add notes of dessert, a hint of pipe tobacco and, on some batches, gasoline. AllBud's tasters describe a "sickly sweet berry creaminess" on the nose and a distinct creamy strawberry cheesecake flavor on the exhale; its aroma tags are cheese, earthy, fruity, pungent and sweet. Weedmaps' user flavor data breaks down as strawberry (43%), cheese (29%) and berry (27%).

A SeedFinder commenter on the Heavyweight cut describes vanilla cream with a skunky note — a nod to the Cheese and Skunk ancestry. A few AllBud reviewers say the smoke is harsh on the throat, so a clean, slow burn matters with this one.

Recreational Effects

Strawberry Cheesecake is an evening strain for most people. Leafly, where it holds a 4.5 rating from 285 reviews, lists the top effects as:

  • Relaxed: the headline effect — a warm, heavy body melt.
  • Sleepy: one recent reviewer put it simply: "Knocks you out."
  • Happy: a mood lift up front; Leafly's description says the mind can "soar with creative energy" while the body unwinds.
  • Hungry: reviewer-tagged on Leafly and a common reason people reach for it.

AllBud describes a lighter experience — a smooth, quick onset that leaves you euphoric, uplifted and mildly motivated. That gap probably comes down to which cut and how much. Several Leafly reviewers warn that it's "way too easy to get couch-locked," and one AllBud reviewer says it crashed them into sleep before they finished.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First few minutes: a quick, happy, slightly giggly lift with a tingle of body warmth.
  • 15–45 minutes: the peak — euphoric and calm, with the body getting heavier by the minute.
  • 1–3 hours: deep relaxation, munchies and, at higher doses, drowsiness and couch-lock.

These timings are typical for smoked flower, not measured for this strain. Plan to be home when you use it.

How Strong Is Strawberry Cheesecake?

That depends on which Strawberry Cheesecake you mean. The published numbers:

  • Leafly: 28% THC, 0% CBD — "over 27%" in its description.
  • Humboldt Seed Company (breeder claim): 28–30% THC on average, per SeedFinder and seed retailers.
  • GrowDiaries (Humboldt cut): up to 28% THC, 0.65% CBD.
  • Heavyweight Seeds cut: 22% THC and 1.3% CBD per Weedmaps and SeedFinder; AllBud says up to 22% THC with about 2% CBD.

JointCommerce's 17–22% "lab-tested" range cites no lab. Realistically, a well-grown Humboldt cut lands in the mid-to-high 20s, while the Heavyweight cut is a high-teens-to-low-20s strain with a little CBD to round it off. A Leafly reviewer's 43% figure was for an infused pre-roll, not flower. Breeder claims of 30% are marketing until a COA backs them up.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Strawberry Cheesecake against the 17–30% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Strawberry Cheesecake vs Strawberry Cake: Same Strain?

Sometimes. Weedmaps and SeedFinder treat "Strawberry Cake" as another name for Heavyweight Seeds' Chronic × White Widow × Cheese cross. But Leafly runs a separate Strawberry Cake page, and other breeders have used the name for unrelated crosses. If the label says Strawberry Cake, ask for the breeder before assuming it's the same plant as Humboldt's Strawberry Cheesecake. Bud names drift; genetics don't.

Strawberry Cheesecake vs Similar Strains

  • vs GSC: the Humboldt cut's parent. GSC brings the dessert sweetness and potency; Strawberry Cheesecake adds strawberry and cream and lands heavier in the body.
  • vs UK Cheese and Blue Cheese: the savory side of the family. UK Cheese is pure funk; Blue Cheese mixes blueberry with it. Strawberry Cheesecake is sweeter than both.
  • vs Strawberry Shortcake: the other strawberry dessert name. Similar berry-and-cream flavor, different genetics — and Leafly even typos one for the other.
  • vs Strawberry Cough: same fruit, opposite high. Strawberry Cough is an energizing sativa; Strawberry Cheesecake is a nightcap.
  • vs Ice Cream Cake and Wedding Cake: fellow Cookies-family desserts with a creamy, sedating finish, minus the strawberry.
  • vs Lemon Cherry Gelato: our featured in-stock pick, and honestly not a twin. Both are creamy, Cookies-adjacent dessert strains with a happy, relaxed finish, but LCG runs cherry and citrus instead of strawberry and cheese. Want strawberry specifically? Our Straw Gua Mintz brings ripe strawberry with a cool mint finish.

Who Strawberry Cheesecake Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: evening smokers, dessert-flavor fans, anyone winding down after a long day, people chasing appetite, and those who use cannabis to fall asleep.

Poor fit: daytime productivity, first-timers taking big hits, and anyone who hates couch-lock. Dizziness is one of Leafly's top-reported negatives. For a creamy dessert flower on our shelf, Lemon Cherry Gelato is the pick, from $69.

How to Use Strawberry Cheesecake THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the strawberry and cream. Try around 350–380°F for the sweet top notes, then step up to 390–410°F for the spice and the heavier body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one small puff, then wait 15–30 minutes — the body effect builds. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full arc. Leafly reviewers repeatedly say a little goes a long way. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly, AllBud and GrowDiaries, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and which cut you have.

  • Depression and low mood: about 30% of Leafly reviewers.
  • Anxiety: about 30% of Leafly reviewers; one says it "works like a charm in settling me down at the end of the day."
  • Pain: about 29% of Leafly reviewers. AllBud also lists arthritis and chronic pain, and Heavyweight Seeds recommends its cut for arthritic and muscular pain.
  • Sleep and appetite: AllBud reviewers report using it for insomnia and loss of appetite, consistent with the sleepy, hungry effects above.

For a plain-language primer on how terpenes are thought to shape these effects, see Project CBD on terpenes. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly.
  • Dizziness — Leafly's third-listed negative, more likely at high doses.
  • Couch-lock and drowsiness — the most repeated warning in reviews.
  • Harsh smoke — some AllBud reviewers report throat and chest burn.

Is Strawberry Cheesecake good for sleep? For most people, yes — that's the point. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Strawberry Cheesecake Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask for the breeder. Humboldt Seed Company and Heavyweight Seeds sell genuinely different plants under this name.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Strawberry and cream. Real Strawberry Cheesecake smells like sweet berry over a creamy, cheesy base. Flat, hay-like flower is old or mislabeled.
  • Dense, frosty buds — tight nugs with a heavy white trichome coat, often with dark purple patches.
  • No mold. Humboldt's dense colas are mold-prone in humid grows, so look closely inside larger buds for gray fuzz.

Growing Strawberry Cheesecake

Both cuts are manageable indica-dominant plants, but they grow differently.

  • Flowering: 8–10 weeks for the Humboldt cut (retailers list 8–10 and 9–10 weeks; GrowDiaries 8–9). SeedFinder lists the Heavyweight cut at about 8 weeks indoors, with outdoor harvest in early October.
  • Yield: SeedFinder lists Heavyweight's version at about 500 g/m² indoors and 700–900 g per plant outdoors. GrowDiaries rates the Humboldt cut high indoors and out; one seed retailer calls it average.
  • Height: short and stocky — 80–130 cm for the Heavyweight cut per SeedFinder.
  • Humidity: keep it low in late flower. The tight colas trap moisture, and a seed retailer specifically flags them as mold-prone.
  • Training: top or use low-stress training early to control stretch and open the canopy.
  • Phenotypes: an AllBud grower reports one low-yielding pheno and one that threw a big central cola, so pop several seeds and keep the best.
  • Seeds: both breeders sell feminized seeds, and both offer an autoflower version.

Where can I buy Strawberry Cheesecake THCA flower online?

Strawberry Cheesecake isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now.
