Watermelon Mimosa Strain

Watermelon Mimosa Strain: Candied Melon on an OG Frame

The Watermelon Mimosa strain sounds like a brunch drink, but the jar tells a different story. Most databases list it as Watermelon Zkittlez × Jesus OG — a candy-melon Zkittlez line crossed into a lemony, heavy OG. The result smells like sweet watermelon candy and tangy citrus with a peppery, earthy base, tests around 26% THC on Leafly, and hits in two stages: a fast, happy head rush, then a body that gets heavier the longer you sit with it. For melon-and-citrus flower on our shelf, start with the THCA flower collection.

Here's the twist — in the version almost everyone sells, there's no Mimosa in it. A second, smaller line from LIT Farms is said to use Mimosa, and the sources don't agree on the breeder, the indica-sativa split, or whether it's an energizer or a sleeper. Below: what each database actually says, how the high unfolds, how strong it is, where the name comes from, how it compares to its relatives, and how to grow it and judge a bag.

A 360° look at Watermelon Mimosa's frosty buds.

Watermelon Mimosa Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. Leafly files it as a hybrid with "mostly energizing" effects; AllBud and SeedFinder both list it as an indica-dominant hybrid at roughly 70% indica and 30% sativa; Weedmaps calls it indica-dominant.
  • Parents: Leafly and two retail listings (Lume's Freedom Green batch and 420 Kingdom's "Kings Aero" at Flower Co.) write it as Watermelon Zkittlez × Jesus OG. AllBud and SeedFinder specify Jesus OG #10.
  • Breeder: Leafly credits Elyon Cannabis. SeedFinder files it under "Unknown or Legendary" and notes it was never sold as feminized seeds. GrowDiaries titles its page "Watermelon Mimosa by LIT Farms."
  • THC: 26% on Leafly, 25–27% on AllBud, and 24.67% on one retail batch from Lume.
  • Minor cannabinoids: Leafly lists 1% CBG; no source lists meaningful CBD.
  • Alias: Weedmaps also lists it as "Melon Mimosa."

The two versions of Watermelon Mimosa

Weedmaps is the only source that tries to reconcile the confusion, and it describes two separate strains sharing one name:

  • The Elyon Cannabis version — Watermelon Zkittlez × Jesus OG #10. This is the one Leafly, AllBud, SeedFinder and the retail menus describe, and it's what you're most likely to find.
  • The LIT Farms version — Mimosa × "Watermelon Gelato 42." We couldn't confirm that second parent anywhere else: SeedFinder's entry for LIT Farms' own Watermelon Gelato lists it as Watermelon Zkittlez × Gelato 45, not 42.

Both versions share Watermelon Zkittlez genetics one way or another, which is why the melon candy shows up either way. If a menu doesn't say which version it is, assume the Jesus OG cross — and if the breeder matters to you, ask.

Where the grandparents come from

  • Watermelon Zkittlez — SeedFinder lists it as Watermelon Zum Zum × OG Eddy (marked "probably"). It's the melon-candy branch of the Zkittlez family and the obvious source of the watermelon nose.
  • Jesus OG #10 — Hells Angel OG × Jack the Ripper per SeedFinder, which links it to Subcool's The Dank. Leafly describes Jesus OG as an indica around 22% THC with two main phenotypes: a lemon-heavy, limonene-dominant one and a classic kush one. That's likely where the citrus top note, the pepper and the heavy finish come from.

Why it's called Watermelon Mimosa

In the main lineage, the name isn't genetic. The likeliest reading is flavor branding — a citrus-forward watermelon strain named after the orange-juice cocktail, the way plenty of dessert strains are named for what they taste like rather than what they came from. Only the LIT Farms version actually has Mimosa as a parent. Neither breeder has published an explanation that we could find, so treat this as our best read, not a fact.

One long JointCommerce guide claims the strain carries "Bubble Bath and LIT OG" genetics "as mentioned in multiple seed catalogs." It doesn't name the catalogs, and no database we checked supports it.

Watermelon Mimosa's offspring

SeedFinder lists six direct descendants: K Y Jealous, Orange OG, Post Melone and Smartiez (all LIT Farms), Kool Aid Man (Beleaf Cannabis) and Watermelon Drip (Green Lion Seeds). Weedmaps lists Smartiez, Orange OG and Post Melone too. The heavy LIT Farms presence in that list is another hint that LIT has worked with this line closely, whichever version it started from.

Watermelon Mimosa Terpene Profile

Leafly lists limonene as the dominant terpene, followed by caryophyllene and myrcene. Weedmaps (for the Elyon version) and Flower Co.'s retail listing name the same three. Lume's Freedom Green batch adds pinene and leads with myrcene. None of these sources publish percentages. Caryophyllene is the one with the most interesting research behind it: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Limonene — citrus, the bright first impression

Caryophyllene — black pepper, spice, wood

Myrcene — earthy, musky fruit, the heavy finish

Pinene — pine and a fresh, sharp edge

Estimated relative profile for Watermelon Mimosa — the order follows Leafly's terpene listing (limonene, caryophyllene, myrcene); pinene appears on one retail batch. No source publishes measured percentages, so these are not lab values.

  • Limonene: the tangy citrus over the melon, and a reasonable explanation for the quick, happy lift reviewers describe. Jesus OG's lemon phenotype is limonene-heavy too.
  • Caryophyllene: the black pepper AllBud picks up in the aroma, and the "pepper" that tops Weedmaps' user-reported flavors.
  • Myrcene: the earthy, musky base — and the terpene most often linked, loosely, to heavy, relaxed strains. Lume's batch listed it first.
  • Pinene: a sharp, piney edge on at least one batch; not listed by Leafly.

No single terpene is "watermelon." The candied-melon effect comes from the whole blend — the Zkittlez-family fruit esters plus citrus and pepper — which is why it reads clearest from a fresh, well-cured jar or a low-temperature vape.

Appearance

AllBud describes fat, dense, spade-shaped emerald-green nugs threaded with thin orange hairs and a heavy coat of golden-white crystal trichomes. That's the OG side showing — tight, chunky buds rather than the airy, foxtailed structure of a sativa — and the frost is heavy enough that a good batch looks sugared. Retail listings like 420 Kingdom's "Kings Aero" sell it as top-of-plant colas, which is about as good as this strain gets on a shelf.

Aroma and Flavor

Open the jar and the watermelon comes first. One Leafly reviewer says the smell "was really reminiscent of watermelon," and others add pineapple, mango and citrus. AllBud describes a sweet melon scent with tangy citrus and a touch of black pepper; its aroma tags read citrus, earthy, fruity, peppery, sour and spicy. On the inhale, AllBud's tasters get sweet, melon-like candy with sour citrus.

The finish is where the OG shows up. Leafly lists the flavors as citrus, tropical and ammonia — a sharp, funky note common in OG crosses — and one reviewer called part of it "dust." Weedmaps' user-reported flavors skew even further that way: pepper 50%, lemon 25%, earthy 25%. In other words, expect candy up front and a peppery, slightly pungent exhale, not a pure fruit bomb.

Recreational Effects

Watermelon Mimosa is a two-stage strain, and that's why the sources argue about it. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.5 rating from 37 ratings, the most-reported effects are:

  • Energetic: the top-reported effect. One reviewer says it "hits like Super Runtz, strong Sativa front, head rush"; another calls it "laser focused."
  • Creative: good for music, projects and conversation in the first hour.
  • Happy: a giggly, euphoric mood lift that Leafly.ca reviewers mention repeatedly.
  • Heavy later: another Leafly reviewer was "surprisingly couch locked" and warns "the high really sneaks up on you."
  • Calming, hungry and sleepy: AllBud's list — an early rush of mental energy that gives way to a heady, relaxed state that can become sedating enough to cause dozing.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First few minutes: a fast head rush — upbeat, chatty and bright.
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak. Happy and creative, with the body starting to loosen.
  • 1–3 hours: the OG side takes over — heavier limbs, the munchies, and for many people a slide toward the couch or bed.

Treat it as a late-afternoon or evening strain. The early energy is real, but if you need to stay sharp for the rest of the day, take less than you think.

How Strong Is Watermelon Mimosa?

Strong. Leafly calls it "higher THC than average" and suggests it's better suited to experienced consumers. The published numbers:

  • Leafly: 26% THC and 1% CBG.
  • AllBud: 25–27% THC.
  • Lume (one Freedom Green retail batch): 24.67% THC.

JointCommerce's 18–25% range explicitly describes "similar strains derived from Watermelon Mimosa crosses," not the strain itself, and cites no lab. Weedmaps doesn't give a strain-level number; the 69% and 88% figures on its page are concentrates and carts, not flower. Realistically, a good cut lands in the mid 20s — and because the body arrives late, the strength is easy to underestimate on the first bowl.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Watermelon Mimosa against the 24–27% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Does Watermelon Mimosa Have Mimosa in It?

Usually not. This is the most common point of confusion with the strain, so it's worth spelling out:

  • The version on most menus — Watermelon Zkittlez × Jesus OG — has no Mimosa parent at all. Leafly, AllBud, SeedFinder and the retail listings we checked all describe this one.
  • Mimosa itself is a different strain: Clementine × Purple Punch, an orange-forward, upbeat daytime hybrid. If you want that bright tangerine morning high, read our Mimosa strain guide — Watermelon Mimosa is heavier.
  • The LIT Farms version is the exception: Weedmaps lists it as Mimosa × Watermelon Gelato 42. We couldn't verify that cross from a second source, and it's much harder to find.

The practical takeaway: don't buy Watermelon Mimosa expecting a melon-flavored Mimosa. Expect a melon-candy OG.

Watermelon Mimosa vs Similar Strains

  • vs Watermelon Zkittlez: the melon parent. Watermelon Zkittlez is the purer candy experience; Watermelon Mimosa keeps the melon but adds Jesus OG's pepper, funk and heavier body.
  • vs Mimosa: name-sake, not parent (in the main version). Mimosa is tangerine and energy; Watermelon Mimosa is melon and a slow slide into the couch.
  • vs Watermelon Gelato: a sibling line — Watermelon Zkittlez × Gelato 45 per SeedFinder. Creamier and more dessert-like; Watermelon Mimosa is sharper and more citrus-and-pepper.
  • vs Watermelon Runtz: another candy-melon option, generally sweeter and smoother on the finish.
  • vs Super Runtz: the strain a Leafly reviewer compared its head rush to. Both are candy-fruit hybrids with a punchy start.
  • vs OG Kush: the OG archetype. If you like the pepper-and-funk finish more than the fruit, OG Kush is that note turned all the way up.
  • vs Dayglow Mousse: our featured in-stock pick, and honestly not a twin. Both pair bright citrus-candy fruit with an OG backbone (Slimer OG, in Dayglow's case) and a lively start, but Dayglow Mousse runs orange rather than watermelon and leans sativa where Watermelon Mimosa leans indica. Want the flavor at full volume? Our Dayglow Mousse live rosin is the same genetics, solventless.

Who Watermelon Mimosa Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: experienced smokers, melon and candy-fruit flavor fans who still like some OG funk, late-afternoon creative sessions that drift into a relaxed night, and anyone who wants a strain that starts social and ends on the couch.

Poor fit: beginners — 26% THC with a delayed body is a lot — people prone to THC anxiety ("paranoid" is a Leafly-reported negative), and anyone who needs to stay productive all afternoon. For a bright, citrus-candy flower on our shelf, Dayglow Mousse is the pick, from $59 for a half ounce.

How to Use Watermelon Mimosa THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the melon. Around 350–380°F keeps the candy and citrus up front; 390–410°F brings out the pepper and the heavier, myrcene-driven body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one small puff, then wait a full 20–30 minutes — the body effect arrives late. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the whole arc, from head rush to heavy finish. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Anxiety: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 32% of reviewers) — though "paranoid" is also a reported negative, so the dose matters.
  • Stress: about 17% of Leafly reviewers. Lume markets its batch as an "Unwind" strain for long days and stressed-out minds.
  • Depression and low mood: about 14% of Leafly reviewers, consistent with the happy, giggly first phase.
  • Pain, cramps and muscle tension: AllBud lists chronic pain, cramps, muscle spasms and neuropathy; Flower Co.'s listing describes "tension-relieving" body effects. Leafly's description mentions pain too.
  • Appetite and sleep: AllBud lists "hungry" and "sleepy" among its effects, which is why some people save it for the evening.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly.
  • Paranoia — a top-reported negative, most likely at high doses or low tolerance.
  • Couch-lock and drowsiness — the late-arriving body can be stronger than the first few minutes suggest.
  • Dizziness or a headache — mentioned by a few Leafly.ca reviewers.

Is Watermelon Mimosa good for sleep? For many people, yes, by the back half of the high — AllBud calls it sedating enough to cause dozing — but the opening rush means it isn't a lights-out strain right away. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Watermelon Mimosa Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask which version it is. Watermelon Zkittlez × Jesus OG is the documented one. If the seller says Mimosa is a parent, it's either the LIT Farms line or a guess.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. The documented range is mid-20s; treat 35%+ flower claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Melon and pepper. A real Watermelon Mimosa smells like candied watermelon and citrus with a peppery, slightly funky base. Flat, grassy flower with no fruit is old or mislabeled.
  • Dense, frosty, emerald-green buds with thin orange hairs. Loose, airy nugs don't match the OG structure.
  • A proper cure — slightly springy, never crumbly, and no hay smell.

Growing Watermelon Mimosa

Here's the honest part: no database we checked publishes a flowering time or yield for Watermelon Mimosa, and SeedFinder says the original was never sold as feminized seeds. What growers can reasonably expect comes from the parents and the plant's structure:

  • Structure: indica-leaning, bushy and sturdy with dense buds — JointCommerce describes a robust, strong-stemmed plant. Top early and use low-stress training to open the canopy.
  • Airflow: dense OG-style colas hold moisture, so keep humidity down late in flower and give the plant good air movement to avoid bud rot.
  • Environment: JointCommerce suggests 68–80°F and a pH of 6.0–6.8 for hydro, slightly lower for soil — standard ranges, not strain-specific data.
  • Harvest: watch the trichomes. Mostly cloudy heads keep more of the head rush; letting some turn amber pushes it heavier.
  • Seeds and cuts: because the original wasn't released as seeds, most growers work from clones or from descendants like LIT Farms' Post Melone and Smartiez, which SeedFinder lists as feminized releases.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Watermelon Mimosa indica or sativa?

Watermelon Mimosa is a hybrid that leans indica. AllBud and SeedFinder list it as about 70% indica and 30% sativa, while Leafly reviewers call its effects mostly energizing — it starts with a head rush and finishes heavy in the body.

What is Watermelon Mimosa a cross of?

Most sources list Watermelon Zkittlez × Jesus OG, with AllBud and SeedFinder specifying Jesus OG #10. Weedmaps also describes a separate LIT Farms version bred from Mimosa × Watermelon Gelato 42.

Does Watermelon Mimosa have Mimosa genetics?

Not in the main version. Watermelon Zkittlez × Jesus OG has no Mimosa parent — the name most likely describes the citrus-melon flavor. Only the LIT Farms version, per Weedmaps, uses Mimosa as a parent.

Who bred Watermelon Mimosa?

Leafly credits Elyon Cannabis. SeedFinder lists the breeder as unknown, and GrowDiaries lists a LIT Farms version. Weedmaps describes both breeders as California-based.

How strong is Watermelon Mimosa?

Leafly lists 26% THC and 1% CBG, AllBud 25–27%, and one retail batch tested 24.67%. That's well above average, and the body effect arrives late, so start small.

What does Watermelon Mimosa taste like?

Sweet, candied watermelon and tangy citrus up front, with tropical notes, then black pepper, earth and a sharp, slightly funky OG finish.

What are the effects of Watermelon Mimosa?

Leafly reviewers report energetic, creative and happy effects early on. AllBud adds calming, euphoric, hungry and sleepy as the high settles, and some reviewers report couch-lock.

Is Watermelon Mimosa good for sleep?

Often, later in the high. AllBud says it can become sedating enough to cause dozing, but the first stage is an upbeat head rush, so give it time or use it an hour or so before bed.

Is Watermelon Mimosa good for anxiety?

It's mixed. About 32% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, but 'paranoid' is also a reported negative. At 26% THC, keep the dose low.

How long does Watermelon Mimosa take to flower?

No database we checked lists a flowering time, and the original was never sold as seeds. If you're growing a cut, ask the source for their harvest window and judge ripeness by the trichomes rather than the calendar.

Is Watermelon Mimosa the same as Watermelon Zkittlez?

No. Watermelon Zkittlez is one of its parents. Watermelon Mimosa keeps the melon candy but adds Jesus OG's pepper, funk and a heavier body.

Where can I buy Watermelon Mimosa THCA flower online?

Watermelon Mimosa isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. Our closest everyday pick is Dayglow Mousse THCA Flower — bright citrus-candy fruit over an OG backbone, from $59 for a half ounce, third-party lab tested. It runs orange rather than watermelon; for the full-flavor version, try our Dayglow Mousse live rosin. Add a pre-roll to ship free over $75.
