Berry Pie Strain

Berry Pie Strain: Blueberry Waffles From the Cookies Camp

The Berry Pie strain is a hybrid credited to a collaboration between Cookies and Seed Junky Genetics, and most sources list it as GSC crossed with Blueberry. Leafly describes the smell as "blueberry waffles"; the flavor is berries and cream with a vanilla, nutty finish. The high is the opposite of what the dessert name suggests — euphoric, energizing and focused, with only a light, calm body under it. It belongs in the fruit-and-dessert corner of our THCA flower collection.

It's also one of the most confused names on strain databases. Leafly calls it a sativa, AllBud calls it 60% indica, one seed listing gives it a different parent, and Google keeps mixing it up with Blueberry Pie, which is a separate strain. Below: what each source actually says, how the high unfolds, how strong it really is, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at Berry Pie's frosty buds.

Quick Facts

Berry Pie Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid, with the lean disputed. Leafly lists it as a sativa and Leafwell as 60% sativa; AllBud files it as an indica-dominant hybrid, 60% indica. The reported effects — energizing, uplifted, focused — read sativa-leaning.
  • Ancestry: GSC (Girl Scout Cookies) × Blueberry, per AllBud, Leafwell, Theory Wellness, GrowDiaries and California grower CannaBay. Leafly names the breeders but lists no parents.
  • Breeder: Cookies × Seed Junky Genetics — credited by Leafly, Leafwell and Theory Wellness, which sells it under the Cookies brand in Massachusetts and Maine.
  • THC: Leafwell 18–22%; Leafly 22%; AllBud 21–25%. Individual batches run much higher (see the potency section).
  • Minor cannabinoids: Leafly and Leafwell both list about 1% CBG; CBD is negligible (AllBud: 0–1%).
  • Offspring: Leafly lists White Coconut Pie (WCP) as a child strain.

Where Berry Pie comes from

Berry Pie is a product of the Cookies era: the GSC family supplied the doughy, sweet base and the potency, and the Blueberry side — the 1970s-rooted line popularized by breeder DJ Short — supplied the jammy berry nose. Seed Junky Genetics worked with Cookies on the cross, and the Cookies brand carried it to dispensaries well beyond California — Theory Wellness lists it in Massachusetts and Maine, and it has turned up on menus in New York and Washington. We couldn't find a first-party release date or breeder write-up, so treat any precise year you see online with caution.

Berry Pie vs Blueberry Pie: not the same strain

Search "Berry Pie" and Google will happily show you Blueberry Pie. They're different. Leafly's Blueberry Pie is an indica-dominant GSC × Blue Dream with caryophyllene, myrcene and pinene. Berry Pie is the Cookies × Seed Junky cut, usually listed as GSC × Blueberry, with a more energizing reputation. To add to the confusion, one seed seller (Premium Cultivars) lists its "Berry Pie" seeds as GSC × Blue Dream and 60% indica — which is the Blueberry Pie recipe. If you're buying seeds or flower, ask which one you're actually getting.

Berry Pie Terpene Profile

Leafly lists caryophyllene as Berry Pie's dominant terpene, followed by limonene and linalool. Leafwell lists the same three terpenes, while one California grower's batch tested limonene-first — so expect some cuts to read brighter and more citrus-forward. Caryophyllene is worth knowing about on its own: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, the GSC spice under the fruit

Limonene — bright berry-citrus lift

Linalool — floral, creamy calm

Myrcene — earthy, soft body

Typical relative profile for Berry Pie — caryophyllene-led per Leafly. Some batches test limonene-first and read brighter and fruitier.

  • Caryophyllene: The peppery, doughy-spicy backbone from the GSC side, and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
  • Limonene: The bright top note that sharpens the berry and drives much of the upbeat, energizing onset.
  • Linalool: Floral and soft — it's behind the "flowery" flavor Leafly lists and the creamy, calm edge on the exhale.
  • Myrcene: Present in smaller amounts in many batches; earthy and musky, it rounds out the light body relaxation.

The blueberry itself isn't one terpene. It's the Blueberry side's overall chemistry — which is why Blueberry-forward cuts smell like jam and Cookies-leaning cuts smell more like pastry dough.

Appearance

Berry Pie looks like it was rolled in sugar. AllBud describes oversized, heavy emerald-green nugs with thin orange hairs and golden undertones under a coat of frosty white trichomes; Leafwell calls the buds lime-green with orange pistils and "dipped in sugar"; Leafly describes them as "stalky and frosty." Cuts grown with cool late-flower nights can pick up purple streaks — a common Blueberry-family trait.

Aroma and Flavor

Open a jar and the first hit is sweet blueberry — Leafly and Theory Wellness both compare it to blueberry waffles, and Leafwell to blueberries and cream. Behind the fruit sits a doughy, cookie-like crust note from the GSC side, plus floral and earthy touches. The inhale is berries and cream; the exhale is where AllBud's "nutty vanilla" shows up, with a light pepper finish and, per HWY 420's review, a tart, herbal edge. AllBud's flavor tags add cherry and vanilla to the blueberry. Blueberry-leaning cuts taste jammier; Cookies-leaning cuts taste more like pastry.

Recreational Effects

For a strain named after dessert, Berry Pie is surprisingly awake. Leafly sums it up as "mostly energizing," with a euphoric head high that keeps you focused. The most-reported effects across Leafly, AllBud and Leafwell:

  • Uplifted and euphoric: a quick mood lift — Leafwell's users mention fits of laughter.
  • Energetic and focused: a clear, productive buzz many people use during the day.
  • Social: AllBud reviewers describe it as sociable and chatty.
  • Hungry and aroused: two of Leafly's top three listed effects.
  • Calm, tingly body: a light relaxation underneath that doesn't pin you down.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First few minutes: a fast, happy head change with a slight tingle.
  • 30–60 minutes: the peak — euphoric, focused and social, with a calm body.
  • 2–3 hours: a gentle taper. At higher doses the GSC side gets heavier, and some AllBud reviewers report feeling sleepy.

One AllBud reviewer notes it kept them up when smoked late in the afternoon — a good reminder that this is more of a daytime strain than a nightcap.

How Strong Is Berry Pie?

Berry Pie is a strong strain, but the numbers depend heavily on who grew it:

  • Leafwell: 18–22% THC, about 1% CBG.
  • Leafly: 22% THC — "higher THC than average."
  • AllBud: 21–25% on average; one reviewer reports a Lit Farms batch at 26.65%.
  • CannaBay (California grower): two published batches at 32.77% and 33.22% total THC.

So the honest answer is low-to-mid 20s for a typical jar, with standout batches going well past 30%. Those top numbers come from individual lab results, not a strain average — potency varies more between growers and batches than between names. Because the high is quick and energizing, it's easy to overshoot: take a hit and give it a few minutes.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Berry Pie batch against the 18–25% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Berry Pie vs Similar Strains

  • vs GSC: the Cookies parent. GSC is earthier and heavier; Berry Pie swaps much of the dough for blueberry and leans more energetic.
  • vs Blueberry: the fruit parent — a classic relaxing indica. Berry Pie keeps the berry nose but adds GSC potency and a brighter, more focused high.
  • vs Blueberry Pie: a different strain — GSC × Blue Dream, indica-dominant and more calming per Leafly.
  • vs Blueberry Muffin: another blueberry-bakery strain; similar breakfast-pastry nose, different genetics.
  • vs Cherry Pie and Grape Pie: other "pie" strains in name only — both are separate lines, and both read heavier and more relaxing than Berry Pie.
  • vs Super Boof: not the same strain — Super Boof is Black Cherry Punch × Tropicana Cookies — but it also descends from GSC (Tropicana Cookies is GSC × Tangie) and shares the dessert-fruit sweetness and uplift-then-relax arc. It's the closest match on our shelf, honestly more cherry-citrus than blueberry.

Who Berry Pie Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: daytime and early-evening smokers who want fruit flavor without couch-lock; creative work, errands and social plans; fans of blueberry and dessert terps.

Poor fit: beginners who are sensitive to THC — paranoia and dizziness are among Leafly's listed negatives — and anyone looking for a sleep strain. For a gentler fruit-forward option, Strawberry 2.1 is the lighter pick on our shelf.

How to Use Berry Pie THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the blueberry and vanilla. Around 350–380°F keeps the fruit and cream; 390°F and up brings out the peppery GSC side.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 10–15 minutes — the energizing onset can tip into racing thoughts if you stack hits. Regular users usually find two or three hits deliver the full arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Anxiety: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 26% of reviewers) — though "paranoid" also appears among its negatives, so dose matters.
  • Stress: about 17% of Leafly reviewers.
  • Low mood: about 11% on Leafly; AllBud also lists depression and stress.
  • Fatigue and focus: AllBud lists fatigue and ADD/ADHD among reported uses, consistent with its energizing reputation.
  • Aches: AllBud lists chronic pain among reported uses.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints.
  • Dizziness and paranoia — both on Leafly's list of negatives, mostly at high doses or low tolerance.
  • Headaches — Leafwell lists them as an occasional report.
  • Trouble sleeping — at least one AllBud reviewer couldn't sleep after an afternoon session.

Is Berry Pie good for sleep? Not usually — it's more energizing than sedating. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Berry Pie Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Make sure it's Berry Pie. Ask the seller whether it's the Cookies × Seed Junky cut or Blueberry Pie under another name.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Blueberry on the nose. A real Berry Pie should smell like blueberry waffles or jam, with dough and vanilla behind it. Flat, grassy or hay-like means it's old or rushed.
  • Sugar-coated frost — trichomes all the way into the bud, not just a dusting on top.
  • Firm but slightly spongy buds that break up sticky, not crumbly or wet.

Growing Berry Pie

Berry Pie is generally described as an approachable, low-maintenance plant. Most of the detailed grow data comes from Leafwell; other sources are thin.

  • Flowering: 9–10 weeks per Leafwell; one long-form guide puts most phenotypes at 8–9 weeks, with Cookies-leaning cuts running longer.
  • Yield: about 400 g per plant indoors and 500 g outdoors (Leafwell).
  • Height: 60–80 inches outdoors, with sturdy stems.
  • Climate: 70–77°F with 40–60% humidity; lower humidity in flower, because the dense buds are prone to rot and mildew. Cool nights bring out purple stems and streaks.
  • Seeds: Seed Junky Genetics is listed as the breeder; Premium Cultivars sells a "Berry Pie" seed line with a different stated lineage (GSC × Blue Dream), and autoflower versions exist.

Is Berry Pie THCA Flower Legal?

How strong is Berry Pie?

Leafwell lists 18–22% THC, Leafly 22% and AllBud 21–25%. Individual batches have tested much higher — one California grower published results above 32% total THC — so check the COA on the batch you buy.

What does Berry Pie taste like?

Sweet blueberry — often compared to blueberry waffles — with cream, a doughy crust note, and a nutty, vanilla exhale with light pepper on the finish.

What are the effects of Berry Pie?

Users most often report feeling uplifted, euphoric, energetic and focused, with a light, calm body. Leafly also lists hungry and aroused among its top effects.

Is Berry Pie good for beginners?

With care. The flavor is approachable, but it's potent and fast-acting. Take one small puff and wait 10–15 minutes before more.

How long does Berry Pie take to flower?

About 9–10 weeks indoors according to Leafwell; some guides put most phenotypes closer to 8–9 weeks.
