High Society Strain

High Society Strain: The Nutty, Gassy Biscotti Hybrid

The High Society strain is a Compound Genetics hybrid made by crossing Biscotti with Jet Fuel Gelato — two members of the Gelato family, one cookie-sweet, one fuel-heavy. What comes out is not the candy-dessert strain you'd expect. High Society smells like roasted nuts, toast and chestnut over earthy spice and a savory hit of gas, and the high is the balanced kind people describe as "relaxing but alert." For flower in the same cookie-and-gas lane, start with our THCA flower collection.

It's also a name with some noise around it. The potency numbers online range from 18% to 31%, the databases disagree on the dominant terpene, one widely read guide credits a GMO parent that no breeder-linked source supports — and "High Society" is also the name of several dispensaries, a cannabis club and a hash brand. Below: what the breeder-linked sources actually say, how the high unfolds, what the potency spread means, the two phenotype camps, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at High Society's frosty buds.

High Society Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. Leafly lists it as a hybrid and its reviewers split on whether it leans indica or sativa; AllBud calls it an evenly balanced 50/50. SeedFinder and the seed shops list it as "indica / sativa" without a ratio.
  • Breeder: Compound Genetics, credited by SeedFinder, Zamnesia and the seed shop Cannapot. Leafly and AllBud don't list a breeder.
  • Ancestry: Biscotti × Jet Fuel Gelato on Leafly, AllBud, SeedFinder, Zamnesia and Cannapot. SeedFinder marks the Biscotti side "probably" — a common hedge on its pages, not a contradiction.
  • THC: 18% on Leafly; 21–25% on AllBud; 21% on Cannapot. See the potency section for the full spread.
  • CBD: negligible — Leafly lists 0%.
  • Seeds: feminized only, per SeedFinder.

Where the grandparents come from

SeedFinder fills in the family tree one level up:

  • Biscotti — South Florida OG × Gelato #25. This is the likely source of the cookie, nut and toasted notes, and of the OG spice underneath.
  • Jet Fuel Gelato — Jet Fuel × Gelato. The gas, the petrol edge on some phenotypes and part of the creamy sweetness come from this side.

So High Society is Gelato on both sides, with an OG and a fuel line layered in. That's why it reads more savory than most Gelato crosses.

The GMO theory

One JointCommerce guide says "several reputable circles" credit a cross with a "GMO-leaning parent" and a dessert parent, with pairings that "vary by producer." It doesn't name a source or a breeder, and it doesn't match the Compound Genetics pedigree that every database and seed shop we checked lists. There's no GMO in the documented cross. The savory, almost garlicky edge some people pick up is more plausibly the OG and fuel in the grandparents. A second JointCommerce guide gives the Biscotti × Jet Fuel Gelato pedigree but calls it "not confirmed" — fair, since we couldn't find Compound Genetics' own write-up of the strain either.

High Society's offspring

SeedFinder lists three direct descendants, two of them from Compound Genetics itself: Metaverse (High Society × Apples and Bananas), Park Avenue Pave (High Society × Pavé) and Shadow Corporation Genetics' High Contact (High Society × Candy Pavé). Leafly also lists Coka as a child; AllBud gives Coka as High Society × White Runtz at 20–23% THC, with a sweeter citrus-and-berry-candy profile.

High Society Terpene Profile

The sources don't agree on the top terpene. Leafly lists limonene as dominant, followed by caryophyllene and myrcene. Zamnesia's seed listing names ocimene and myrcene. One JointCommerce guide puts caryophyllene first (0.5–1.2% by weight) ahead of limonene and myrcene, with linalool, humulene and ocimene in support — but it gives no lab source for those ranges. Our read: with a pepper-spice-roast nose like this, caryophyllene is almost certainly a lead player, and limonene shows up on the brighter, fruitier phenotypes. Caryophyllene is also the one with real research interest — a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the roasted edge

Limonene — citrus lift, the brighter phenos

Myrcene — earthy, herbal, the body melt

Ocimene — sweet, green top note

Estimated relative profile for High Society — Leafly lists limonene, caryophyllene and myrcene; Zamnesia lists ocimene and myrcene; the ordering is our estimate from the aroma, not lab data.

  • Caryophyllene: The black pepper, cinnamon and roasted spice — likely carried in from the OG side of Biscotti, and the backbone of the roasted read.
  • Limonene: Leafly's dominant terpene. It adds a citrus lift on top of the nuts and is probably part of the euphoric front end.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and herbal, listed by both Leafly and Zamnesia. Likely behind the body relaxation as the high settles.
  • Ocimene, linalool and humulene: Supporting notes credited by a seed listing and an unsourced guide — plausible, not proven.

The unusual part is what's missing: High Society doesn't have the loud fruit-candy esters most Gelato crosses carry. The nose is warm, roasted and savory, which is why it stands out on a menu full of sherbet and runtz.

Appearance

AllBud describes large, diamond-shaped, emerald-green nugs with golden undertones, threaded with thin orange hairs and a frosty coat of golden-amber trichomes. That amber-tinted frost is common in Biscotti lines and gives the buds a warm cast under light. One JointCommerce guide says some phenotypes pick up purple when nights run cool — plausible for a Gelato cross, though we couldn't confirm it from a breeder-linked source. Expect dense, well-stacked flowers rather than airy ones.

Aroma and Flavor

This is the part that surprises people. Break a High Society bud and you get roasted nuts and toast first, then earthy spice and a savory, skunky gas. AllBud describes a nutty, dark-roasted aroma with earthy spice and a savory skunk note; its flavor tags include herbal, nutty, skunky and spicy. Leafly's flavor tags include chestnut and — yes — ammonia, and one reviewer describes a roasted-chestnut taste. Cannapot's seed listing goes further: French toast, roasted nuts, cinnamon, gelato and gas.

Which way your bag leans depends on the cut. Zamnesia notes that some phenotypes lean into the nutty, earthy Biscotti scent while others come out fruitier and petrol-like, closer to Jet Fuel Gelato. On the exhale, the roasted nut notes usually hold up best at lower temperatures; burn it hot and the pepper and fuel take over.

Recreational Effects

High Society is a middle-of-the-road hybrid in the best sense — enough lift to stay social, enough body to unwind. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.6 rating from 47 reviews, the most-reported effects are:

  • Relaxed: the headline effect, but without the couch-lock. One reviewer calls it mellowing without pinning you down.
  • Euphoric: a mood lift up front — AllBud describes a lifted, euphoric onset that quickly turns giggly.
  • Focused: a clear enough head to hold a conversation or a task. One reviewer calls it "relaxing but alert" and says it makes them chatty in social settings.
  • Happy, creative and hungry: AllBud's other tags, plus calming and uplifting.
  • Balanced: the reviewer who calls it their favorite strain describes it as "an incredibly balanced hybrid."

Not everyone loved it. One Leafly reviewer who bought it in Michigan found it weak and joked it "should be called Low Society" — a reminder that the grower and the cut matter as much as the name.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 5–10 minutes: a heady, euphoric lift and a slight pressure behind the eyes.
  • 20–60 minutes: the body relaxation arrives and the high peaks — calm, social, a little giggly.
  • 1.5–3 hours: a slow taper. At moderate doses it stays clear-headed; bigger doses get drowsy.

Those timings come from a JointCommerce guide, not a study, so treat them as a rough curve. Because it leans relaxed, High Society suits late afternoon and evening better than a busy morning.

How Strong Is High Society?

High Society is a solid, above-average hybrid — but the numbers online are all over the place:

  • Leafly: 18% THC, 0% CBD, described as higher than average.
  • AllBud: 21–25% THC.
  • Cannapot (seed listing): 21% THC.
  • Dispensary labels: a JointCommerce menu scan shows 19% to 31% across 53 dispensaries, and the same guide says results near 30% aren't typical.
  • Zamnesia: "Very High," with no number.

Realistically, a well-grown cut lands somewhere around 20–25%. The low 18% on Leafly and the "Low Society" review suggest some weaker cuts are in circulation; the 30%+ labels are best treated as outliers until you see the COA. Potency also isn't the whole story here — the terpene load and the balance of the high are what fans talk about.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of High Society against the 18–31% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Two Phenotypes: Biscotti Side vs Jet Fuel Gelato Side

Compound Genetics breeds for variety, and High Society shows it. Zamnesia's listing calls out "significant phenotype variation" as the main draw, and Cannapot's breeder copy says the phenotypes differ in structure, terpenes, color and how well they suit a given environment. In practice, the sources describe two camps:

  • The Biscotti-leaning pheno: nutty, earthy, bakery-sweet — roasted nuts, cinnamon, French toast and a dark-roast edge. This is the cut most of the Leafly and AllBud descriptions match.
  • The Jet Fuel Gelato-leaning pheno: fruitier and more petrol-forward, with gelato cream and a louder fuel finish. Zamnesia says some plants in this camp can double in height after the flip.

This is why two bags of "High Society" from different brands can taste like different strains. If you find a cut you like, note the brand and stick with it.

Which High Society? The Name Problem

Search "High Society" and you'll hit a lot more than the strain. It's the name of a Washington retailer whose products show up across AllBud, a dispensary on Leafly, a cannabis club in Thailand, and a hash maker on SeedFinder called High Society Hash. None of those are the Compound Genetics strain. If a product says "High Society" but lists a different lineage — or a store's name is doing the work — it's probably not what this page describes.

The strain itself shows up under a lot of brands: Weedmaps and Leafly listings include The 8th by White Boy Rick, Lolo, District Cannabis, BLK MKT, COTC Gardens, Waabigwan Mashkiki and Modern Flower, and Leafly reviewers mention a brand called Crops. Different growers, different phenotypes — so the COA and your nose matter more than the label.

High Society vs Similar Strains

  • vs Biscotti: the cookie parent. Biscotti is sweeter and more classic cookie-and-spice; High Society adds fuel and reads more savory and roasted.
  • vs Jet Fuel Gelato: the gas parent. Jet Fuel Gelato is louder fuel and cream; High Society trades some of that for roasted nuts and spice.
  • vs Gelato 33: the classic Gelato cut. Gelato is sweet, creamy and fruity; High Society is the savory side of the family.
  • vs GMO: the strain one guide wrongly names as a parent. GMO is garlic-funk heavy and sedating; High Society is lighter on both.
  • vs Pavé: the other half of its child Park Avenue Pave — another savory, gassy Compound-adjacent profile.
  • vs Permanent Marker: our featured in-stock pick, and honestly a cousin rather than a twin. Both carry Biscotti and a cookie-and-gas backbone with a balanced, relaxed high, but Permanent Marker runs floral candy and gas instead of roasted nuts and spice. Want the fuel side instead? Mule Fuel is our heavy gas pick, and Juicy Jet live rosin is the solventless option.

Who High Society Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: people who are tired of candy strains, roasted-nut-and-spice flavor fans, social evenings, unwinding after work while staying present, and growers who like hunting phenotypes.

Poor fit: anyone who wants fruit-forward flavor, a wake-and-bake daytime strain, or a knockout for sleep at low doses. People prone to dizziness should go slow — it's one of Leafly's reported negatives. For a Biscotti-backed, balanced hybrid on our shelf, Permanent Marker is the pick, from $65 for a half ounce.

How to Use High Society THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: a good way to taste the roasted nut notes. Lower temperatures, around 350–380°F, keep the roasted sweetness up front; 390–410°F brings out the pepper and fuel.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–30 minutes. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full euphoric-then-relaxed arc. Bigger sessions tip it toward drowsy. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Anxiety: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 34% of reviewers), and AllBud lists stress and anxiety too.
  • Insomnia: about 18% of Leafly reviewers. One reviewer who uses it for chronic pain and insomnia says it helps with relaxation and sleep.
  • Depression: about 15% of Leafly reviewers; AllBud also lists depression.
  • Chronic pain: listed by AllBud and mentioned by a Leafly reviewer.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly.
  • Dizziness — Leafly's other reported negative, more likely at higher doses.
  • Drowsiness and low motivation — at bigger doses, per one JointCommerce guide.
  • The munchies — AllBud tags it "hungry."

Is High Society good for sleep? At a moderate dose it's more relaxed than sleepy, but larger doses can get drowsy — some reviewers use it at night. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is High Society Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Check the lineage on the label. Biscotti × Jet Fuel Gelato from Compound Genetics is the documented one. With dispensaries and clubs using the same name, provenance matters.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Roasted nuts, spice and gas. A real High Society smells roasted and savory with fuel underneath. Flat, grassy flower with no spice is old or mislabeled.
  • Golden-amber frost over green, diamond-shaped buds with orange hairs. Skimpy trichomes are a red flag.
  • A proper cure — hay or grass smell means it was rushed, and the roasted notes are the first thing a bad cure kills.

Growing High Society

High Society is a feminized photoperiod plant that grows indoors, outdoors or in a greenhouse, per SeedFinder. Difficulty depends on who you ask — Cannapot's breeder copy calls it easy to grow; Zamnesia rates it moderate.

  • Flowering: about 70 days per SeedFinder; 9 weeks per Cannapot; 9–10 weeks per Zamnesia.
  • Height and stretch: varies by phenotype. Zamnesia says some plants stay compact while others can easily double in height, and suggests flipping to bloom after about three weeks of veg if space is tight. Top early and use low-stress training to keep the canopy even.
  • Outdoors: Cannapot's breeder copy says to protect it from rain for the best results — dense Gelato-family buds don't love late-season moisture.
  • Yield: no breeder figure is published. A Zamnesia reviewer calls the per-plant harvest "very good."
  • Pheno hunting: pop several seeds if you can. The Biscotti and Jet Fuel Gelato sides express very differently, and keeping a clone of the one you like is the only way to get it again.
