Pavé Strain

Pavé Strain: The Frost-Covered Collab Named After a Diamond Setting

The Pavé strain (usually typed "Pave" on menus, pronounced pah-vay) is a Compound Genetics hybrid built from Paris OG and The Menthol, released in 2021 as a collaboration with Cookies and Migos rapper Quavo. The name is a jeweler's term — pavé is the setting where small diamonds are packed so tightly the surface looks paved in light — and it fits: Pavé buds are buried under so much frost they can look almost white. Underneath the bling you get cool menthol, pear and plum over peppery OG gas, and a tingly, euphoric high that ends heavy. For gassy, relaxing flower right now, start with our THCA flower collection.

It's also a strain where the internet disagrees a lot. Sources split on whether it's balanced or indica-leaning, potency claims range from the low 20s to the high 20s with almost no lab data behind them, and the flavor gets described as everything from "mint ice cream" to "earthy gas" to Dr. Pepper. Below: what the breeder-linked databases actually say, where the grandparents come from, how the high unfolds, what the THC numbers mean, the long list of Pavé crosses, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at Pavé's frosty buds.

Pavé Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. AllBud lists it as an even 50/50 and Weedmaps calls it an "evenly balanced hybrid"; Leafly files its effects as "mostly calming," and Beard Bros Pharms describes it as indica-leaning.
  • Breeder: Compound Genetics, credited by Leafly and SeedFinder. SeedFinder's breeder note reads "Quavo Huncho X Cookies X Compound Genetics Collabo!!!"
  • Parents: Paris OG × The Menthol — the one pedigree every major database agrees on.
  • Released: 2021, per a Weedmaps history of Compound Genetics (republished by Benzinga), which also says Compound planned a full Pavé seed collection for 2022.
  • THC: AllBud lists 22–29%; Leafly calls it "crazy-high-THC" without giving a number.
  • Aliases: Pave, Pav (Leafly's abbreviation) and "The Pave" on some menus.

Where the grandparents come from

SeedFinder fills in the family tree one level up, and it's a who's-who of gas:

  • Paris OG — Headband × Lemon OG. Headband brings Chemdawg and Mass Super Skunk; Lemon OG traces to Lemon OG Kush and Joe's OG Kush. This is the classic OG half — pepper, earth, fuel and a heavy body.
  • The Menthol — Gelato #45 × (White Diesel × (High Octane × Jet Fuel)). It's one of Compound's own Gelato crosses from the 2017–2019 era, alongside Jet Fuel Gelato, and the likely source of the cool, minty top note and much of the resin.

The name — and "Paris" vs "Perris"

Weedmaps, RespectMyRegion and Beard Bros all trace the name to the pavé jewelry setting, a nod to the frost. One SeedFinder user comment argues the "Paris" in Paris OG should really be Perris, a city in Riverside County, California. That's an interesting theory, but it's a single unsourced comment and we couldn't confirm it.

Raw Genetics' "Pave" and the Cookies connection

Weedmaps notes that more than one breeder works with the name, including Raw Genetics. SeedFinder lists Raw's Pave as Paris OG × The Menthol, but its family tree shows Pavé × Pavé — which reads like a selfed or sibling cross of the Compound line rather than a separate strain. Because of the Cookies collab, you'll also see Pave on Cookies-affiliated menus, including its Deli flower line on Weedmaps listings.

Pavé's offspring

Pavé became one of Compound's main breeding parents. SeedFinder counts 19 direct descendants; the ones it names include Candy Pavé (× Eye Candy), Honeycomb Pavé (Big Face × Pavé), Lemon Cherry Pavé (× Lemon Cherry Gelato), 90 Proof and Crystal Chalice (both with Grape Gasoline), Mora Azul (× Blueberry Cruffin), Blue Pavé and Kumamotoz — plus Raw Genetics' Hotlanta (× Georgia Pie) and Alien Genetics' Moon Paver. Leafly adds Facetz and Strawberry Pavé (Red Pop × Pavé). RespectMyRegion also lists Park Avenue Pavé and Pavé Mints, but we couldn't confirm their pedigrees elsewhere.

Pavé Terpene Profile

No lab-published terpene breakdown exists for Pavé — Leafly and Weedmaps leave the field blank. Strain guides agree on the top of the list: caryophyllene and limonene, with RespectMyRegion adding linalool and Beard Bros adding myrcene and a touch of eucalyptol (the cooling, menthol-like compound). Humulene and pinene show up as minors. Caryophyllene is the one with real research behind it: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the OG bite

Limonene — citrus lift, brightness

Myrcene — earthy, musky, the heavy body

Linalool — floral, soft calm

Estimated relative profile for Pavé — no lab terpene data is published. Caryophyllene and limonene are named by every strain guide we checked; myrcene and linalool by one guide each. Eucalyptol (the menthol note) isn't charted.

  • Caryophyllene: The pepper and spice Leafly and AllBud both pick up, and the backbone of the OG gas from the Paris OG side.
  • Limonene: The citrus and grapefruit some reviewers notice — likely from Lemon OG — and part of the euphoric front end.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and musky, and commonly linked to the heavy, couch-leaning finish people report at higher doses.
  • Linalool and eucalyptol: Floral calm and that cool, menthol-like edge. Plausible, given The Menthol's name and nose — but unconfirmed by lab data.

The menthol in Pavé probably isn't one molecule. It's what happens when cool, herbal compounds sit on top of a Gelato-sweet base and OG pepper — which is also why the flavor shifts so much from batch to batch.

Appearance

This is the strain's whole pitch. AllBud describes dense, diamond-shaped, forest-green nugs with deep purple undertones, thin red-orange pistils and a "frosty, chunky" coat of bright-white trichomes. Leafly's description calls it a "white-out trichome blizzard burying a stacked, thick bud," and the Weedmaps history quotes Compound's team: "Pavé is caked out in trichomes. It's almost white-like." Beard Bros adds dark purple and occasional blue tones in some cuts. If a bag of Pavé doesn't look frosted, it's either a weak grow or not Pavé.

Aroma and Flavor

Open a jar and you get something cool and sharp first — menthol and mint — then sweet fruit and a peppery OG gas underneath. Leafly lists the flavors as pear, menthol and pepper; its reviewers add citrus and grapefruit, diesel, floral notes, a hint of garlic and, more than once, Dr. Pepper. AllBud's take is sweet plum and fresh grape with a spicy menthol finish, with lemon, lime and gas in the reviews; Weedmaps settles on sweet plum, grape and pepper.

Not every cut leans sweet. Compound's own team described a "really strong gassy profile, more like an earthy gas," and RespectMyRegion sums up its batch as "mint ice cream colliding with OG gas." The likely story: the menthol-and-fruit side comes from The Menthol, the pepper and fuel from Paris OG, and which one wins depends on the phenotype and the cure.

Recreational Effects

Pavé hits fast and lands heavy. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.7 rating, the top reported effects are:

  • Tingly: the signature opening — a buzzy, head-and-face tingle AllBud also calls out.
  • Euphoric: a quick mood lift. One Leafly reviewer called the effects "a slap in the head."
  • Relaxed: the body melts down as it goes. AllBud warns it can turn "hopelessly couch-locked."
  • Creative and uplifted: AllBud's tags, and one Leafly reviewer found it "very good for focus" at a modest dose.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First few minutes: a tingly, euphoric head rush — strain guides put inhaled onset at a few minutes.
  • 20–45 minutes: the peak — buzzy, happy and increasingly heavy in the body.
  • 1–3 hours: a long, relaxed taper. At higher doses that taper becomes couch time, and one Leafly reviewer described it as a "spacy zoning out" high.

An AllBud reviewer put it plainly: not a daytime strain unless your tolerance is high. Treat it as an evening smoke.

How Strong Is Pavé?

Pavé has a reputation as a high-THC strain, but the hard numbers are thin. Here's everything published:

  • Leafly: no percentage — just "crazy-high-THC hybrid." One reviewer reports a batch that tested 26.8%.
  • AllBud: 22–29% THC, with its description citing a 27–29% average, plus about 1% CBD (an unusually high CBD figure we couldn't confirm anywhere else).
  • Weedmaps: "high-THC," no number.
  • Strain guides: RespectMyRegion says 25–29%, JointCommerce 22–29% with many batches around 24–26% — neither cites a lab.

Realistically, a well-grown Pavé lands in the mid-to-high 20s, which puts it in the strong tier. That's why reviewers keep using words like "slap" and "very strong" — go slower than you would with an average hybrid.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Pavé against the 22–29% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Why Pavé Became an Exotic-Menu Staple

Pavé arrived in 2021 with everything a hype strain needs: a respected breeder, the Cookies brand, a famous co-signer in Quavo and a look that photographs like a diamond ring. Compound Genetics was already known for Jet Fuel Gelato and Apples & Bananas, and Pavé quickly became one of its most-used breeding parents. The trichome density also makes it a hash plant — Compound's team called it good for hash, and you'll see it on menus as live resin from brands like Dabstract. If the frost is what draws you, solventless is where it shines.

Pavé vs Similar Strains

  • vs Gelato 45: the grandparent. Gelato 45 is sweeter and creamier with a lighter body; Pavé adds OG gas, menthol and a much heavier finish.
  • vs Headband: the OG grandparent. Headband is lemon, diesel and that famous head-pressure high; Pavé is cooler and fruitier on the nose and heavier in the body.
  • vs Jet Fuel Gelato: a Compound sibling from the same era. Jet Fuel Gelato runs louder fuel and a more upbeat buzz; Pavé runs mint and a calmer, heavier end.
  • vs Kush Mintz: the other big "mint" strain. Kush Mintz is cookie-mint and kush; Pavé swaps in pear, plum and OG pepper.
  • vs Permanent Marker: another frost-heavy exotic. Permanent Marker leans floral-candy gas and a more balanced high; we carry it if you want that lane.
  • vs Mule Fuel: our featured in-stock pick, and honestly not a twin. Both bring loud gas and a heavy, relaxing body, but Mule Fuel is straight fuel without Pavé's menthol and fruit. Want the cool, minty side? Our GovernMint Oasis live rosin is the closest flavor on our shelf.

Who Pavé Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: evening smokers who want a strong, heavy finish, people unwinding after work, gas-and-menthol flavor fans, hash and rosin collectors, and anyone who buys with their eyes.

Poor fit: new or low-tolerance users, people who need to stay productive, and anyone prone to THC paranoia — "paranoid" is one of Leafly's top-reported negatives. For a gassy, heavy evening flower on our shelf, Mule Fuel is the pick, from $59 a half ounce.

How to Use Pavé THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the menthol and fruit. Lower temperatures, around 350–380°F, keep the cool, sweet top notes; 390–410°F brings out the pepper and gas and a heavier body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one small puff, then wait 15–30 minutes — this is a strong strain. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full tingly-to-heavy arc. With rosin or live resin, start with a rice-grain-sized dab. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Low mood: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 19% of reviewers); AllBud lists depression and mood swings.
  • Anxiety and stress: roughly 17–19% of Leafly reviewers cite anxiety and 14% stress — though "paranoid" is also a reported negative, so dose matters.
  • Aches and tension: AllBud lists chronic pain, and one Leafly reviewer said it eased muscle stiffness and back pain.
  • Nausea and low appetite: listed by AllBud, in line with the heavy, relaxing finish.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry eyes and dry mouth — the most common complaints on Leafly.
  • Paranoia — among Leafly's top-reported negatives, especially at high doses or low tolerance.
  • Couch-lock and sleepiness — AllBud's warning; don't plan anything demanding afterward.

Is Pavé good for sleep? It can be — the relaxed, heavy finish makes it an evening strain — but the euphoric start means it isn't instant sedation. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Pavé Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask for the breeder. A Compound Genetics cut is the documented original; with a name this popular, provenance matters.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Frost you can see from across the room. Pavé is named for its trichomes — the buds should look almost white and feel sticky.
  • Menthol and gas. A real Pavé has a cool, sharp top note over pepper and fuel. Flat, hay-like flower with no bite is old or mislabeled.
  • Dense, stacked nugs — airy, larfy buds don't match any source's description.

Growing Pavé

Pavé is a resin-first plant that's very growable but rewards attention to airflow because the flowers stack so densely.

  • Flowering: about 65 days indoors per SeedFinder; Beard Bros says 8–9 weeks and RespectMyRegion 8–10 weeks.
  • Yield and difficulty: medium-to-high yield and moderate difficulty, per RespectMyRegion — no measured g/m² figure is published.
  • Structure: medium height with strong branching (Beard Bros). Top early, train for an even canopy, and add trellis support as the heavy colas fill in.
  • Environment: keep humidity in check late in flower — dense, resinous buds are the kind that hide mold. A slow dry and proper cure protects the menthol top note.
  • Seeds: SeedFinder lists Compound's Pavé and Raw Genetics' Pave as feminized only, for indoor, outdoor and greenhouse. Clones also circulate through outlets such as The Clone Foundry.

It's pronounced 'pah-vay.' Pavé is a jewelry setting where small diamonds are packed tightly together — a nod to the strain's near-white coat of trichomes.

Is Pave a Cookies strain?

It's a Compound Genetics strain made in collaboration with Cookies and Quavo, so it shows up on Cookies-affiliated menus — but Compound Genetics is credited as the breeder.

How strong is Pave?

AllBud lists 22–29% THC and one Leafly reviewer's batch tested 26.8%. Leafly gives no official figure but calls it very high-THC. Treat it as a strong strain and start small.

It suits evenings. The relaxed, heavy finish makes it a wind-down strain, though the euphoric start means it isn't instant sedation.

Is Pavé good for anxiety?

It's mixed. Roughly 17–19% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, but 'paranoid' is also a top-reported negative. Keep the dose low.

How long does Pavé take to flower?

About 65 days indoors per SeedFinder, or 8–10 weeks per strain guides. Seeds are sold feminized.

Where can I buy Pavé THCA flower online?

Pavé isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. Our closest everyday pick is Mule Fuel THCA Flower — loud gas and a heavy, relaxing finish, from $59 a half ounce, third-party lab tested. It doesn't have Pavé's menthol, so for a cool, minty flavor try our GovernMint Oasis live rosin. Add a pre-roll to ship free over $75.
