Jelly Donut Strain: A Dessert Hybrid With an Identity Problem
The Jelly Donut strain is an indica-leaning dessert hybrid known for grape, berry and sweet-dough flavor and a giggly, happy, relaxed high. Leafly lists it as Purple Punch × French Toast from Raw Genetics, at around 20% THC with pinene as the dominant terpene. It belongs in the fruit-and-dessert corner of our THCA flower collection.
But the name is a mess. AllBud lists a different cross (Girl Scout Cookies × Louis XIII). The Jungle Boys Jelly Donut, the cut most reviewed online, is listed as Biscotti × Sunset Sherbet. SeedFinder's Jelly Donuts is a third cross from Underworld Genetix. And Humboldt Seed Company's Jelly Donutz — with a z — is a separate, sativa-leaning strain from the Hella Jelly and Runtz line. Below: every version side by side, what each one tastes and feels like, how strong it is, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to tell which Jelly Donut is actually in your jar.

- Type: Indica-leaning hybrid. Leafly calls it indica-dominant; AllBud lists it 80% indica / 20% sativa.
- Ancestry (Leafly): Purple Punch × French Toast, bred by Raw Genetics. We couldn't find a breeder-published description to confirm it, so treat it as Leafly's listing.
- THC: Leafly lists 20%, with about 1% CBG; AllBud lists 17–18%. Modern cuts can test well above that.
- CBD: Not listed by either source — expect it to be negligible.
- Alias: Leafly abbreviates it "JDu." It's often spelled Jelly Donuts or Jelly Doughnut.
Four plants, one name: which Jelly Donut is which?
Dessert names get reused constantly, and Jelly Donut is a textbook case. Here's what each source actually lists:
- Leafly — Purple Punch × French Toast (Raw Genetics): indica-dominant, about 20% THC, sage, grape and berry flavor, pinene-led. This is the version most strain databases repeat.
- AllBud — Girl Scout Cookies × Louis XIII: 80% indica, 17–18% THC, with a citrus, lemon and menthol profile and "a lightly doughy and nutty exhale." Louis XIII is the OG Kush line also known as King Louis.
- Jungle Boys — Biscotti × Sunset Sherbet: The Highest Critic's review lists the Jungle Boys cut as (Motorbreath #15 × Gelato 41) × (Girl Scout Cookies × Pink Panties), with the original breeder "unknown." It smells of Biscotti gas and almond rather than grape.
- Underworld Genetix — Jelly Donuts: SeedFinder lists Lemon Pastries × Jealousy (F3), sold as feminized seeds, with little other data published.
Then there's Jelly Donutz, which most people searching "Jelly Donut" eventually run into. It's Humboldt Seed Company's strain from its Hella Jelly program: Leafly lists it as Hella Jelly × Runtz, and the breeder's page describes it as a Hella Jelly × White Runtz line. It's a different plant with a different high — 60% sativa, energizing, and much stronger on paper (30–35% THC claimed). Humboldt says only two keepers were selected from a pheno hunt of 840 plants, and the name came from Alex of Casa Flor.
Bottom line: if the jar says Jelly Donut, ask the seller for the breeder or lineage. Grape-and-berry with a relaxed body points to the Leafly version; Biscotti gas points to the Jungle Boys cut; candy, fuel and an energetic head high points to Jelly Donutz.
Jelly Donut Terpene Profile
Leafly lists pinene as Jelly Donut's dominant terpene, followed by myrcene and caryophyllene. That's an unusual lead for a dessert strain, and it fits the "sage" note in its flavor listing. Other write-ups add limonene and linalool for the sweet, creamy side, but without lab data behind them. Caryophyllene is worth knowing about: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Pinene — pine, sage, a clear head
Myrcene — earthy fruit, relaxed body
Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, a little gas
Limonene — sweet berry-citrus lift
Typical relative profile for the Leafly Jelly Donut — pinene-led, then myrcene and caryophyllene. The Jungle Boys Biscotti cut reads gassier and more caryophyllene-forward.
- Pinene: Fresh pine and herbal sage. It's the top of the nose and part of why the high stays clear-headed at low doses.
- Myrcene: Earthy, ripe-fruit musk. It carries the grape-berry body and the relaxed, heavier finish.
- Caryophyllene: Pepper and spice — the "dough" warmth behind the fruit, and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
- Limonene: A minor sweet citrus note in most cuts, louder in the citrus-leaning version AllBud describes.
The "jelly" isn't a single terpene. The grape and berry come from the Purple Punch side's overall chemistry; the doughy, bakery note is what the French Toast side adds.
Appearance
Descriptions vary with the cut, but most agree on dense, frosty, colorful buds. AllBud describes dense, rounded forest-green nugs with amber undertones, orange hairs and golden trichomes. The Highest Critic describes the Jungle Boys cut as medium-density, medium green with purple hues, minimal pistils and heavy trichome coverage. Other write-ups note purple and pink accents. The purple usually comes from the Purple Punch side and from cool night temperatures late in flower.
Aroma and Flavor
True to the name, the Leafly Jelly Donut is grape and berry first, with an herbal sage edge from the pinene. Leafly lists its flavors as sage, grape and berry, and reviewers describe it as "skunky but sweet," with one saying it really is reminiscent of a jelly donut. Break a bud and the sweet, bready side comes forward. On the inhale it's sugary berry jam; the exhale is doughier, with herbs and light spice.
The other versions smell different:
- AllBud's version: citrus, lemon and sour, with a menthol edge, and a "lightly doughy and nutty exhale."
- Jungle Boys cut: Biscotti-led — smoky, musky fuel with biscuit, almond and hazelnut, plus sweet floral Sherbet notes. The Highest Critic scored smell and flavor 8.7/10 and ash 9/10 (very light grey).
- Jelly Donutz (Humboldt): pink cotton candy, caramel and fuel, with a "strawberry malted milkshake" flavor per the breeder.
Recreational Effects
Jelly Donut is a mood-first, body-second strain. On Leafly, with 50 ratings averaging 4.3, the top reported effects are:
- Giggly: the headline effect — light, silly, social.
- Happy: an easy, warm mood lift.
- Relaxed: a calm body that builds as the session goes on.
- Hungry and sleepy: Leafly's description notes both, which is why it's usually an evening strain.
AllBud describes a long-lasting, uplifting high with euphoria up top and a calming body effect. Reviewers say it builds slowly, and one reviewer felt "sleepy fast."
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 5–10 minutes: a gentle, giggly head change and a brighter mood.
- 20–60 minutes: the peak — happy and talkative, with the body loosening up.
- 1–3 hours: a slow slide into relaxation. With more hits, appetite and sleepiness take over.
Jelly Donutz is the exception: the breeder and an Illinois News Joint review both describe it as energizing and head-leaning, more of a daytime strain.

How Strong Is Jelly Donut?
It depends which Jelly Donut you mean:
- Leafly (Purple Punch × French Toast): 20% THC and 1% CBG — "higher THC than average," but Leafly also calls it approachable for beginners.
- AllBud (GSC × Louis XIII): 17–18% THC.
- Jungle Boys cut: The Highest Critic rated strength 9.4/10 and cited a 42.31% total-cannabinoid figure, without a THC-only number.
- Jelly Donutz (Humboldt): the breeder claims a 30–35% THC average, with selected plants over 34% at SC Labs. Leafly lists 33%. A 2026 Illinois retail batch reviewed by Illinois News Joint tested 24.6% THCA, so real-world jars vary a lot.
So is Jelly Donut strong? The classic indica-leaning version is moderate-to-strong; the Jungle Boys cut and Jelly Donutz are heavy hitters. Name alone tells you little — the label does.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Jelly Donut batch against the 17–35% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Jelly Donut vs Similar Strains
- vs Purple Punch: the grape-candy parent in Leafly's listing. Purple Punch is sweeter and sleepier; Jelly Donut adds the doughy, herbal French Toast side.
- vs Hella Jelly: Humboldt's sativa-leaning candy strain and the parent of Jelly Donutz — not of Jelly Donut. More energetic, more fuel.
- vs Biscotti: the gassy, cookie-dough parent of the Jungle Boys cut. If your Jelly Donut smells like almond and fuel instead of grape, it's this side.
- vs Blockberry and Super Boof: Black Cherry Punch × Tropicana Cookies, from the same Purple Punch family tree. Berry and cherry fruit with a giggly-to-relaxed arc. Super Boof is our closest in-stock match, from $29.
- vs Grape Pie: another grape-forward dessert strain, sweeter and heavier on the pastry.
If you want the Jungle Boys side — Biscotti gas over sweet Sherbet — Permanent Marker is (Biscotti × Sherb Bx) × Jealousy, the closest in-stock match to that profile, from $29.
Who Jelly Donut Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: evening smokers who want a sweet, fruity strain with a happy, giggly start and a relaxed finish; movie nights and low-key social sessions; moderate-tolerance users.
Poor fit: anyone who needs to stay sharp, or who wants an energetic daytime high — that's more Jelly Donutz territory. For a brighter daytime fruit profile on our shelf, try Straw Gua Mintz.
How to Use Jelly Donut THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the grape and dough. Around 350–375°F keeps the pinene and fruit; 390–410°F brings out the heavier, sleepier side.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–20 minutes — the body effect builds slowly. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full giggly-to-relaxed arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Anxiety: the most-cited use on Leafly (34% of reviewers).
- Stress: 17% on Leafly; AllBud lists it too.
- Low mood: 12% on Leafly, consistent with the happy, giggly effects.
- Sleep and appetite: Leafly's description says medical patients choose it for insomnia, and AllBud lists appetite loss among common uses.
- Aches: AllBud lists chronic pain and cramps.

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly.
- Dizziness — Leafly's third most-reported negative; one reviewer reported a headache after a small dose.
- Couch-lock and munchies — at higher doses, the relaxed body becomes sleepy and hungry.
- Anxiety — more likely with the potent Jelly Donutz, where Leafly lists "anxious" as a top negative.
Is Jelly Donut good for sleep? The classic indica-leaning version often is, especially at higher doses. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Jelly Donut Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Ask which Jelly Donut. A good seller can name the breeder or lineage — Raw Genetics, Jungle Boys, Underworld Genetix — or tell you it's actually Jelly Donutz.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
- The nose should match the label. Grape and berry for the Leafly version, Biscotti gas for the Jungle Boys cut, candy and fuel for Jelly Donutz.
- Frost and density, with trichomes covering the bud, not just the tops.
- A proper cure: slightly sticky, never wet or crumbly-dry, with no hay or grass smell.
Growing Jelly Donut
There's no single grow sheet for Jelly Donut, because there's no single Jelly Donut. Leafly and AllBud publish no grow data for it. Here's what is published:
- Flowering: about 8–9 weeks for the dessert-hybrid versions, per grower write-ups.
- Jelly Donutz (Humboldt): 55 days indoors; outdoor harvest around September 25–October 10; finishes at 4–5 feet, growing tall rather than stocky. The breeder calls it easy, resilient and resistant to gray mold and powdery mildew, and a strong strain for washing into hash. Feminized and autoflower seeds are available.
- Jelly Donuts (Underworld Genetix): feminized seeds, indoor or outdoor, with no flowering or yield data listed on SeedFinder.
- Grow tips: dense, resinous dessert buds trap moisture late in flower, so keep airflow strong and humidity low. Cool night temperatures in the last weeks bring out the purple. Dry and cure slowly to protect the terpenes.
Is Jelly Donut THCA Flower Legal?
Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is federally legal when it contains no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis — see the USDA hemp program. THCA flower is sold under that rule. State laws differ and are changing, so check your state before you order. And whatever the label says, THCA flower will show up on a drug test — heated, it is THC.

Jelly Donut is an indica-leaning hybrid. Leafly calls it indica-dominant and AllBud lists it 80% indica. Jelly Donutz from Humboldt Seed Company is a different strain and leans sativa (60%).
What is Jelly Donut a cross of?
Leafly lists Purple Punch × French Toast from Raw Genetics. AllBud lists Girl Scout Cookies × Louis XIII, the Jungle Boys cut is listed as Biscotti × Sunset Sherbet, and Underworld Genetix's Jelly Donuts is Lemon Pastries × Jealousy. Several different plants share the name.
What is the difference between Jelly Donut and Jelly Donutz?
Jelly Donutz is Humboldt Seed Company's strain from the Hella Jelly and Runtz line — sativa-leaning, energizing, with candy and fuel flavor and a claimed 30–35% THC. Jelly Donut is usually the indica-leaning Purple Punch × French Toast dessert strain with a giggly, relaxed high.
What strain is Hella Jelly?
Hella Jelly, formerly Jelly Rancher, is a sativa-leaning Humboldt Seed Company strain and a parent of Jelly Donutz. It's related to Jelly Donutz, not to the Purple Punch × French Toast Jelly Donut.

What are the effects of Jelly Donut?
Leafly's most-reported effects are giggly, relaxed and happy, and its description adds hungry and sleepy. It starts with a light, happy mood lift and settles into body relaxation.
How strong is Jelly Donut?

How long does Jelly Donut take to flower?
Grower write-ups put the dessert-hybrid versions at about 8–9 weeks. Humboldt's Jelly Donutz finishes in about 55 days indoors, with outdoor harvests late September to early October.
