Blockberry Strain: The Name Behind Super Boof
The Blockberry strain is a cross of Black Cherry Punch and Tropicana Cookies, bred in 2019 by an independent San Diego breeder known as Blockhead. You probably know it by another name: a Michigan grower picked out an exceptional Blockberry plant and called it Super Boof — and Super Boof went on to become Leafly's 2024 Strain of the Year. Blockberry smells like cherry, berry and orange over vanilla cream, and delivers a quick, giggly, creative high with a relaxed body underneath. It belongs in the fruit-forward corner of our THCA flower collection.
That shared history is the most useful thing to know before you buy. Below: how Blockberry and Super Boof relate, which "Blockberry" cuts are actually different plants, what the potency numbers mean, how the high unfolds, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

- Type: Balanced hybrid. Leafly and AllBud both list 50% sativa / 50% indica; Leafly's users rate its effects as mostly energizing.
- Ancestry: Black Cherry Punch × Tropicana Cookies. Tropicana Cookies is itself GSC × Tangie, which is where the orange comes from.
- Breeder: Blockhead — "California's Blockhead Budz" on Leafly, Blockhead Buds on SeedFinder. Leafly's Strain of the Year announcement describes Blockhead as an independent San Diego breeder who made the cross "as a personal backup project in 2019."
- THC: Leafly lists 28%; AllBud 28–30%; one online THCA batch reported 28.27% THCA.
- CBD: Negligible — not listed by Leafly or AllBud.
- Aliases: Super Boof (a selected cut), Superboof, Block Berry. Leafly lists a descendant, Halle Berry.
Blockberry vs Super Boof: same strain?
Mostly, yes. Leafly's own Blockberry page says it "is also known as Superboof, a name given by grower Mobile Jay who selected a special variety of this strain." The common telling is that Mobile Jay, a Michigan grower, popped a handful of Blockberry seeds, kept the best plant and gave it a joke name — "boof" is slang for bad weed. The cut took off under that name, and in December 2024 Leafly named Super Boof its Strain of the Year, calling it the fastest-growing new cultivar on Leafly that year.
So Super Boof is best understood as one selected Blockberry phenotype. Blockberry from seed can vary plant to plant; Super Boof is the specific keeper cut. Some dispensary menus list both as separate items — either different phenotypes of the same cross, or a menu that hasn't caught up. Our Super Boof strain guide covers the name story in depth.
The "Blockberry" that isn't the original
Not every jar labeled Blockberry is Blockhead's cross. Missouri's CAMP lists a Blockberry from Relentless Genetics that crosses Black Cherry Punch × Tropicana Cookies back to Tropicana Cherry — a related but different plant, with a caryophyllene-led terpene profile. SeedFinder also notes that the breeder hasn't officially confirmed the lineage, so treat the parentage as the widely reported cross rather than a certified pedigree.
Blockberry Terpene Profile
Leafly lists myrcene as Blockberry's dominant terpene, which it ties to an "earthy and cherry aroma." Beard Bros Pharms describes a profile built on limonene, caryophyllene and myrcene, with ocimene or pinene in support. CAMP's Relentless Genetics version leads with caryophyllene, then limonene and linalool. Sources disagree on the order — expect batch-to-batch variation.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Myrcene — earthy, cherry depth, relaxed body
Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the faint gas edge
Limonene — orange-citrus brightness, mood
Linalool — floral, vanilla-soft finish
Typical relative profile for Blockberry — myrcene-led per Leafly; Beard Bros puts limonene first and CAMP caryophyllene. Varies by cut.
- Myrcene: Earthy and musky; Leafly ties it to Blockberry's cherry aroma and it anchors the relaxed back half of the high.
- Caryophyllene: Peppery spice and the faint gas edge on the exhale — the "structure" Beard Bros describes.
- Limonene: The orange-citrus lift from the Tropicana Cookies side and part of the giggly, upbeat opening.
- Linalool: Floral and soft; part of the creamy, vanilla-like finish some cuts show.
The berry-and-vanilla dessert note isn't one terpene — it's the Black Cherry Punch side's whole chemistry, layered on Tropicana Cookies' citrus.
Appearance
Blockberry is a looker. Leafly describes dense, olive-green buds with purple hues and a thick layer of frost; AllBud calls them oversized, grape-shaped olive nugs with dark purple undertones, thick orange hairs and chunky trichomes that can look purple-tinted. Beard Bros notes deep purples, dark greens and occasional near-black tones against bright orange pistils, with tight calyx stacking. Pale, airy buds under this name usually mean a weak cut or a rushed dry.
Aroma and Flavor
Crack a jar and you get cherry and berry first, then orange citrus, with something creamy underneath. Leafly lists berry, tree fruit and grapefruit as the top flavors, and its description adds orange, vanilla and a blue-cheese funk. AllBud describes sweet, sugary blueberry with hints of orange, creamy vanilla and dark chocolate. CAMP's version smells of ripe cherries and tangerines with a light, dank lemon.
On the inhale it's tangy berry and citrus; the exhale turns earthier, with a peppery, faintly gassy finish that lingers. Breaking a bud open makes everything louder — including the funk.
Recreational Effects
Blockberry starts fast and bright, then gets comfortable. Leafly reviewers' top effects:
- Giggly: the signature — the same "laughing at nothing" reputation Super Boof carries.
- Euphoric: a quick, strong mood lift.
- Creative: ideas and conversation in the first hour.
- Focused: briefly — AllBud says the focus fades into a hazy, giggly "blockhead" feeling.
- Relaxed: a body calm that deepens with dose without usually tipping into couch-lock.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 5–10 minutes: a quick, cerebral lift — uplifted, chatty, a little giddy.
- 15–60 minutes: the peak — euphoric and creative, with the body starting to loosen.
- 1–3 hours: a long, mellow settle. Expect the munchies; at higher doses it leans physical.
Not everyone loves it. One Leafly reviewer found it not great for socializing or getting things done, and Reddit's Illinois community has threads both praising and panning specific batches — a reminder that the grower matters as much as the name.

How Strong Is Blockberry?
Blockberry is a genuinely strong strain. The numbers by source:
- Leafly: 28% THC — "an ideal choice for experienced cannabis consumers."
- AllBud: 28–30% THC on average.
- CAMP (Relentless Genetics version): about 25% THC on average.
- Black Tie CBD (one THCA batch): 28.27% THCA, 28.45% total cannabinoids.
Retail batches land lower too — an Illinois Reddit thread lists one at 23.20%. Treat 30%+ claims as the top of the range, not the norm. The onset is quick and the giggly phase sneaks up, so it's not a first-timer strain.
What is the world's strongest strain? No single strain holds that title — potency varies more between growers and batches than between names, and many modern strains test in the high 20s or 30s. Blockberry sits in that top tier, but the COA on the actual batch is the only number that counts.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Blockberry batch against the 23–30% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Blockberry vs Similar Strains
- vs Super Boof: the same Black Cherry Punch × Tropicana Cookies cross — Super Boof is the selected keeper cut. If you want Blockberry's genetics from Diesel Hemp, this is it.
- vs Tropicana Cookies: the citrus parent. Brighter, more orange, more energetic; Blockberry adds the cherry-berry depth and more body.
- vs Tropicana Cherry: a cherry-citrus cousin, and the backcross parent in Relentless Genetics' Blockberry.
- vs Runtz, Gelato and Wedding Cake: the dessert hybrids it's most often compared with. Blockberry is fruitier and more citrus-bright than Wedding Cake, and gigglier than Gelato.
- vs Strawberry Glue: a sweet-berry, euphoric hybrid on our shelf — strawberry over gas rather than cherry over orange.
Who Blockberry Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: experienced smokers who want a potent, happy, social strain for the afternoon or evening; fans of fruity dessert flavors; anyone chasing the Super Boof hype.
Poor fit: beginners, anyone prone to THC anxiety, or someone who needs sharp focus for hours. For a gentler fruit profile, Strawberry 2.1 is the lighter option on our shelf.
How to Use Blockberry THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the cherry and orange before they burn off. Around 350–380°F keeps the fruit and citrus bright; 390–410°F brings out the creamier, peppery body.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–20 minutes — at 25%+ THC it's easy to overshoot. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the full giggly-to-mellow arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Anxiety: the top reason on Leafly (about 33% of reviewers) — though anxiety is also an occasional negative, so dose matters.
- Low mood: about 18% of Leafly reviewers, consistent with its euphoric, giggly profile.
- Stress: about 18% of Leafly reviewers.
- Appetite and body discomfort: AllBud lists chronic pain and inflammation among reported uses, and Leafly notes people choose it for gastrointestinal discomfort.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.
Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes — Leafly's most common complaints.
- Dizziness — also in Leafly's top negatives, usually from overdoing it.
- Headache or anxiety — occasionally reported, more likely at high doses.
- Harsh smoke — one AllBud reviewer's complaint, usually a cure issue rather than the strain.
Is Blockberry good for sleep? It can help you wind down in the evening, but it's more giggly than sedating unless you take a lot. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Blockberry Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Ask about the cut. Is it Blockhead's cross, the Super Boof selection, or the Relentless Genetics backcross? A good seller knows.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Cherry and orange on the nose. A real Blockberry has both. Plain earthy flower with no fruit suggests a weak cut or lost terpenes.
- Density and color — dense, frosty, olive-to-purple buds. Light, airy flower under this name is a red flag.
- A proper cure — hay or grass smell means it was rushed.
Growing Blockberry
Leafly calls Blockberry "one of the sturdiest plants you can grow," and growers describe it as a modern hybrid that rewards attention without being difficult.
- Flowering: about 58–68 days per SeedFinder grower reports; Beard Bros says 8–9 weeks indoors.
- Height and structure: moderate stature with considerable stretch and solid lateral branching — well suited to topping and canopy training.
- Yield: no published figure for Blockberry itself; growers describe yields as notable, especially for hash and rosin.
- Environment: heavy resin and dense buds mean airflow and humidity control matter late in flower.
- Post-harvest: a slow dry and proper cure lock in the fruit-forward terpenes.
Is Blockberry THCA Flower Legal?
