Lemon Haze Strain: The Original Lemon-Peel Sativa
The Lemon Haze strain is a sativa-leaning cross of Lemon Skunk and Silver Haze that smells, in Leafly's words, "like fresh peeled lemon slices." It delivers a happy, talkative, often giggly head high with a light body, which has made it a daytime staple for years — Leafly alone lists more than 2,600 ratings for it. It belongs in the bright, citrus-and-energy corner of our THCA flower collection.
It's also constantly confused with Super Lemon Haze, Green House Seeds' two-time Cannabis Cup winner. They share the lemon, the Lemon Skunk parent and a haze backbone — but they are different strains with different haze parents, different terpene leads and a different feel. Below: the lineage (and where sources disagree), how it compares to Super Lemon Haze, terpenes, effects, potency, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at Lemon Haze's lime and yellow-green, orange-haired buds.

- Type: Sativa-dominant. Leafly lists it simply as a sativa; AllBud and GrowDiaries say about 70% sativa / 30% indica; Amsterdam Genetics lists its seed version at 60/40.
- Ancestry: Lemon Skunk × Silver Haze — the cross named by Leafly, AllBud, Weedmaps and GrowDiaries.
- Breeder: No agreed original breeder. Leafly and AllBud name none; GrowDiaries credits Green House Seeds, which we couldn't confirm and may be a mix-up with Super Lemon Haze.
- THC: Leafly lists 19%; AllBud 17–22%; Weedmaps 18–22%; GrowDiaries 15–20%.
- CBD and minor cannabinoids: Low — AllBud lists about 0.38% CBD; Leafly lists about 1% CBG.
- Aliases: "LH" on Leafly.
Where the sources disagree
"Lemon Haze" is a name more than a single locked cut, and different seed companies have bred different versions:
- Amsterdam Genetics: Lemon Skunk × Silver Haze, about 19% THC — the classic recipe, per SeedFinder. The breeder describes "a slow-onset, easy-going mental sativa high, followed over time by a deep indica-leaning body stone."
- Bulk Seeds: Super Silver Haze × Lemon Skunk — the breeder says it picked "the best phenos" of its Super Silver Haze plants and crossed them with Lemon Skunk, per SeedFinder. Note that those are the same parents usually credited to Super Lemon Haze.
- Royal Queen Seeds: sells a related "Lemon Shining Silver Haze," which Weedmaps lists as Lemon Skunk × Shining Silver Haze — a separate product, not the same plant.
Two jars labeled Lemon Haze may come from different seed lines; the lemon-peel nose and talkative high are the common thread.
Lemon Haze vs Super Lemon Haze: not the same strain
- Lineage: Lemon Haze is Lemon Skunk × Silver Haze. Super Lemon Haze is Lemon Skunk × Super Silver Haze, per Leafly and Wikipedia. (Ethos Genetics' founder has argued that some Super Lemon Haze seed lots actually used Jack Herer in place of Super Silver Haze — another sign of how loosely these lemon-haze names travel.)
- Breeder: Super Lemon Haze comes from Green House Seeds in the Netherlands. Lemon Haze has no agreed original breeder.
- Awards: Super Lemon Haze won the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam in 2008 and 2009. We found no comparable record for plain Lemon Haze — be wary of pages that hand it Super Lemon Haze's trophies.
- Terpenes: Leafly lists terpinolene as Super Lemon Haze's lead terpene, but myrcene for Lemon Haze.
- Effects: Leafly's top effects for Super Lemon Haze are energetic, focused and uplifted. For Lemon Haze they're giggly, talkative and happy — a looser, more social high.
Lemon Haze Terpene Profile
Leafly lists myrcene as Lemon Haze's dominant terpene, followed by caryophyllene and limonene. That surprises people, given the lemon on the nose — but limonene doesn't have to be the largest terpene to dominate the smell. Other profiles also list terpinolene, pinene and linalool. Caryophyllene is notable in its own right: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Myrcene — herbal, earthy, the body floor
Caryophyllene — pepper, haze spice
Limonene — fresh lemon peel, mood lift
Terpinolene — bright, piney-floral haze lift
Typical relative profile for Lemon Haze — myrcene-led per Leafly. Terpinolene is listed by some profiles but not Leafly; it's Super Lemon Haze's lead terpene. Batches vary.
- Myrcene: Herbal and earthy. It gives Lemon Haze the mellow body that some users notice as the high winds down.
- Caryophyllene: Peppery spice — the haze side of the exhale — and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
- Limonene: The fresh-lemon-peel top note and a driver of the happy, upbeat onset consumers describe.
- Terpinolene: Bright, piney and floral — the classic "haze" terpene. Expect more of it in Super Silver Haze-based cuts.
Appearance
Lemon Haze looks like its name. Leafly describes "green and yellow" buds "with amber hairs," and AllBud says the same — yellow and green with amber pistils threaded through the trichomes. Expect fluffy, elongated, sativa-shaped buds in bright lime and yellow-green, long orange pistils, and a solid frost of trichomes.
Aroma and Flavor
Open the jar and it's lemon first: fresh-cut lemon peel and sweet citrus, with lime close behind. Under the citrus sits a skunky, herbal, earthy layer from the Lemon Skunk and a dry haze spice. Weedmaps sums it up as "lemon and sweet citrus" leading, "with skunk, herbs, earth, and Haze spice riding underneath."
On the palate, Leafly's top flavors are lemon, citrus and lime; AllBud adds sweet and tangy. The exhale is tart and slightly peppery. Some users note the smoke can be harsh through a bong — a good cure and a lower vape temperature keep it smoother.
Recreational Effects
Lemon Haze is a social, upbeat sativa. On Leafly, with more than 2,600 ratings averaging 4.2 stars, the most-reported effects are:
- Giggly: the signature effect — things get funny.
- Talkative: a strong pick for conversation and social sessions.
- Happy: a clear mood lift without heavy sedation.
- Uplifted and creative: AllBud and GrowDiaries growers report euphoric, energetic and creative effects.
- Mellow body: light at first; Amsterdam Genetics says its cut settles into a deeper body stone over time.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
Sources disagree on the onset. Some guides describe a fast start within minutes; Amsterdam Genetics and Mo Greenway describe a slow, creeping onset. Most consumers land somewhere in between:
- First 5–15 minutes: a bright, happy head change that builds rather than slams.
- 15–60 minutes: the peak — talkative, giggly, creative, with a light body.
- 1–3 hours: a gradual settle; GrowDiaries growers report the high lasting three hours or more. AllBud notes that repeated sessions can tip it toward couch-lock.

How Strong Is Lemon Haze?
Lemon Haze is moderately strong — a mid-to-high-teens to low-20s strain, not a record-chaser:
- Leafly: 19% THC, about 1% CBG.
- AllBud: 17–22% THC.
- Weedmaps: 18–22% THC.
- Amsterdam Genetics (seed version): about 19% THC.
- GrowDiaries: 15–20% THC.
So is Lemon Haze a strong strain? For experienced smokers it's a functional daytime potency; for beginners, 19% is plenty. Super Lemon Haze lists the same 19% on Leafly — the difference is character, not strength.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Lemon Haze batch against the 17–22% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Lemon Haze vs Similar Strains
- vs Super Lemon Haze: the famous cousin. Super Silver Haze in place of Silver Haze, terpinolene-led, and more energetic and focused. Lemon Haze is the more giggly, social version.
- vs Lemon Skunk: the lemon parent. Faster and skunkier, with less of the haze spice and the long, heady ride.
- vs Silver Haze: the haze parent — earthier and more pine, with Lemon Haze adding the citrus.
- vs Amnesia Haze: another Dutch haze with citrus and earth, but a heavier, more spacey head high.
- vs Jack Herer: a Haze-family classic with spicy pine instead of lemon and the same clear-headed daytime reputation.
- vs Dayglow Mousse: our in-stock citrus sativa — orange instead of lemon, with the same bright, energetic daytime lane. It's the closest match on our shelf.
Who Lemon Haze Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: daytime sessions, social settings, creative work, and anyone who wants an uplifting strain that isn't overwhelming.
Poor fit: anyone prone to THC anxiety at higher doses, or someone looking for a sleep strain. For a fruitier, gentler daytime option, Strawberry 2.1 is another sativa-leaning pick on our shelf.
How to Use Lemon Haze THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the lemon. Around 350–380°F keeps the citrus top notes bright and the smoke smooth; 390–410°F brings out more spice and body.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15 minutes — the onset can creep. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full talkative, giggly arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Stress: the most-cited reason in Leafly reviews (about 31%).
- Low mood: about 25% of reviewers, consistent with the happy, giggly headline effects.
- Anxiety: about 24% report help — but "paranoid" is also one of its top negatives, so dose matters.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.
Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth — the most common complaint on Leafly.
- Dizziness — Leafly's second-most-reported negative.
- Paranoia or anxiety — less common, but more likely at high doses or low tolerance, as with most hazes.
Is Lemon Haze good for sleep? Not usually — it's uplifting and social, and only heavy, repeated use pushes it toward the couch. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is It Real Lemon Haze? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Check the name. "Lemon Haze" and "Super Lemon Haze" are different strains. A seller who uses them interchangeably probably doesn't know which they have.
- Ask about the seed line. Silver Haze-based and Super Silver Haze-based versions both exist under this name.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Lemon Haze lives around 17–22%; much higher claims without paperwork are marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Real lemon on the nose. Fresh peel, not furniture polish or hay. Weak citrus means old or poorly cured flower.
- Frost on fluffy buds — airy is normal for a haze; dry and crumbly isn't.
Growing Lemon Haze
Lemon Haze is a manageable haze. Leafly rates it moderate difficulty; Weedmaps and GrowDiaries call it beginner-friendly and note good pest and mold resistance. It likes warm, sunny, Mediterranean-style conditions.
- Flowering: about 7–9 weeks per Leafly; 8–9 weeks per Weedmaps and GrowDiaries; Amsterdam Genetics and Bulk Seeds list 9–10 weeks for their seed versions.
- Yield: Leafly says medium to high. Weedmaps reports about 425–475 g/m² indoors and around 18 oz per plant outdoors; Amsterdam Genetics claims up to 550 g/m² indoors and 500 g per plant outdoors.
- Height: about 4–5 feet indoors per Weedmaps, taller outdoors, with real stretch after the flip. Topping, low-stress training or a screen keep it in check.
- Outdoors: finishes around mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere, per Weedmaps.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Lemon Haze indica or sativa?
Lemon Haze is sativa-dominant. Leafly lists it as a sativa, AllBud and GrowDiaries put it at about 70% sativa / 30% indica, and Amsterdam Genetics lists its seed version at 60/40. Its effects — happy, talkative, giggly — are classic daytime sativa.
What is Lemon Haze a cross of?
Most sources, including Leafly and AllBud, list Lemon Skunk × Silver Haze. Some seed versions, such as Bulk Seeds', use Super Silver Haze × Lemon Skunk instead.
What is the difference between Lemon Haze and Super Lemon Haze?
They are different strains. Lemon Haze is Lemon Skunk × Silver Haze; Super Lemon Haze is Lemon Skunk × Super Silver Haze from Green House Seeds, and it won the High Times Cannabis Cup in Amsterdam in 2008 and 2009. Leafly lists Super Lemon Haze as terpinolene-led and energetic and focused, while Lemon Haze is myrcene-led and giggly, talkative and happy.
How strong is Lemon Haze?
Moderately strong. Leafly lists 19% THC, AllBud 17–22% and Weedmaps 18–22%. It's a comfortable daytime potency for experienced users but plenty for beginners.
What does Lemon Haze taste like?
Fresh lemon peel, sweet citrus and lime up front, with a skunky, herbal, earthy layer and a dry haze spice on the exhale.

It's mixed. About 24% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, but paranoia is also among its reported negatives. Low doses are the safer approach.
Does Lemon Haze make you sleepy?
Not usually. It's an uplifting, social daytime strain; only heavy or repeated use tends to tip it toward couch-lock.
Is Lemon Haze good for beginners?
It can be, at a low dose. At around 19% THC it's milder than many modern strains, but take one small puff and wait 15 minutes before having more.
How long does Lemon Haze take to flower?
About 7–9 weeks per Leafly and 8–9 weeks per most grow reports, with some seed versions listed at 9–10 weeks. Outdoors it finishes around mid-October.
