Lemon Gelato Strain: Lemon Zest Meets Gelato Cream
The Lemon Gelato strain is exactly what the name promises: the creamy, dessert-sweet Gelato line crossed with a loud lemon parent. Depending on whose seeds you trace, that lemon parent is Lemon Haze (the Grandiflora Genetics version Leafly describes) or Lemon Tree (the Gelato #33 version AllBud and Elev8 Seeds list). Either way, you get sour lemon peel over sweet cream with a hint of blueberry, a buzzy, euphoric start, and a relaxed body that, in Leafly's words, won't lock you to the couch. It fits the citrus-and-dessert corner of our THCA flower collection.
Two things trip people up. First, there are two different Lemon Gelatos, and the seed listings don't always say which one they're selling. Second, Lemon Gelato is not Lemon Cherry Gelato, the far more famous Backpack Boyz strain with a similar name. Below: both lineages, how Lemon Gelato differs from LCG and Gelonade, the terpenes, how the high unfolds, how strong it really is, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at Lemon Gelato's frosty buds.

- Type: Indica-leaning hybrid. AllBud lists it as 70% indica / 30% sativa; Leafly calls it indica-dominant; Elev8 Seeds describes its version as indica-dominant too. The effects read balanced: heady first, relaxed after.
- Ancestry (version 1): Gelato × Lemon Haze. Leafly lists Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, Lemon Haze and Sunset Sherbet as the three strains in the cross. Since Gelato is itself Thin Mint GSC × Sunset Sherbet, that works out to Gelato × Lemon Haze.
- Ancestry (version 2): Gelato #33 × Lemon Tree, per AllBud and Elev8 Seeds' feminized seed line. Lemon Tree is Lemon Skunk × Sour Diesel.
- Breeder: SeedFinder credits Grandiflora Genetics with the Lemon Haze version. Elev8 Seeds sells the Lemon Tree version. No release year or origin story is documented for either.
- THC: Leafly 18%; AllBud 19–29%; Elev8 17–25% by phenotype. See the potency section below.
- CBG and CBD: Leafly lists 1% CBG. CBD is negligible, typically under 1%.
- Aliases: Leafly lists "LeG." Lemon Gelato is not an alias for Lemon Cherry Gelato, Gelonade or Lemon Zelato. Those are separate strains.
- Offspring: SeedFinder lists Eastmont and Lit Farms' Rainbow Gelato as descendants of the Grandiflora version.
Two Lemon Gelatos: which one is in the jar?
This is the main thing the databases disagree on, and it matters because the lemon parent shapes the smoke:
- The Lemon Haze version (Grandiflora, Leafly) leans lighter and brighter. Lemon Haze brings lemonade, a touch of pine and Haze spice, and a clearer head.
- The Lemon Tree version (AllBud, Elev8) leans sharper and gassier. Lemon Tree's Sour Diesel side adds a fuel edge under the lemon, and its Lemon Skunk side adds funk.
GrowDiaries muddies it further by crediting Grandiflora but listing the Gelato #33 × Lemon Tree cross. Our read: if it smells like lemonade and cream, it's probably the Haze cross; if there's diesel under the lemon, it's probably the Lemon Tree cross. If the lineage matters to you, ask the seller.
Lemon Gelato vs Lemon Cherry Gelato: not the same strain
Search results mix these two up constantly, so let's be clear. Lemon Cherry Gelato (LCG) is a Sunset Sherbet × GSC selection popularized by California's Backpack Boyz. Its lemon and cherry come from the phenotype, not from a lemon parent. It's caryophyllene-led, gassier and heavier, with tart cherry candy on the nose and a deeper body stone. Lemon Gelato has an actual lemon parent stacked on Gelato. It reads more like lemon sorbet over cream than cherry candy, and Leafly's reviewers describe a lighter, more creative high. Same Gelato family, different plants.
Lemon Gelato Terpene Profile
Here, too, the sources split. Leafly lists myrcene as Lemon Gelato's dominant terpene, followed by pinene and caryophyllene. Other lab summaries put limonene first, with caryophyllene, linalool and myrcene behind it and total terpenes of roughly 1.5–3%. That split fits the two lineages: a myrcene lead suits the relaxed, indica-leaning reports, while a limonene lead suits the lemon-forward nose. Expect batch-to-batch variation and check the COA if terpenes matter to you.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Myrcene — earthy, relaxed body
Limonene — lemon zest and mood lift
Caryophyllene — pepper, the Gelato warmth
Pinene — pine, a clearer head
Typical relative profile for Lemon Gelato. Leafly lists it as myrcene-led; other lab summaries list it as limonene-led. Lemon Tree versions often carry more fuel.
- Myrcene: Earthy and musky. It's the likely source of the relaxed body and the woody aftertaste Leafly reviewers mention.
- Limonene: Lemon peel and a quick, bright mood lift. It's the most "lemon" of the four and the lead terpene in some batches.
- Caryophyllene: Peppery warmth inherited from the Gelato and Cookies side, and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
- Pinene: Fresh pine. It's part of why Leafly users describe the head high as buzzy rather than foggy.
The "gelato" isn't a single terpene. The sweet, creamy, berry-touched base comes from the Gelato side's overall chemistry. That's also where the blueberry note many reviewers mention most likely comes from.
Appearance
Lemon Gelato usually looks like a Gelato cut: dense, lumpy, sticky buds in minty to dark green, threaded with thin orange pistils and coated in frost. AllBud describes "long, narrow, pepper-shaped minty green nugs" with light-orange hairs. Leafly's description adds bright orange and purple hairs with an amber-tinged resin coat, and growers on Leafly report lumpy, sticky buds with dark green foliage. Some phenotypes pick up purple tones in a cool late flower, a trait from the Sunset Sherbet side. Trichome coverage is heavy, which makes it popular with hash makers.
Aroma and Flavor
Open the jar and lemon hits first: sour, zesty and a little candied. Underneath it there's sweet cream and a berry note that many people read as blueberry. Break a bud and earthy, woody tones come up, plus a fuel edge on Lemon Tree cuts. AllBud sums it up as "sweet and sour creamy lemony gelato" with a touch of blueberry. It lists the aromas as berry, citrus, earthy, lemon, sour and woody. Leafly's top flavors are lemon, blueberry and, oddly, blue cheese. That funk shows up in some batches and reads as a sour, savory edge on the exhale. Expect lemon sorbet on the inhale and a creamy, slightly woody finish on the exhale.
Recreational Effects
Lemon Gelato is a two-stage high, a buzzy head first and a calm body second. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.5-star rating from 30 ratings, the top reported effects are:
- Relaxed: the headline effect. It's a calm, loose body, but Leafly notes it won't lock you to the couch.
- Euphoric: a quick, happy mood lift in the first half hour.
- Creative: Leafly suggests pairing it with creative tasks, music or podcasts.
- Tingly and uplifted: both on AllBud's list, along with happy and "body high."
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 2–5 minutes: a bright, cerebral onset with the lemon side out front.
- 20–60 minutes: the peak, euphoric, chatty and creative, with the body loosening underneath.
- 1–3 hours: a gradual settle into calm. Larger doses turn heavier and more introspective. One AllBud reviewer notes the effects "wear off quicker than I expected."
Elev8 describes its version the same way: active and euphoric at first, then relaxing in the body "without being sedating," with the mind kept clear. That makes Lemon Gelato a late-afternoon or early-evening strain more than a wake-and-bake or a knockout.

How Strong Is Lemon Gelato?
Lemon Gelato sits in the moderate-to-strong range. It's potent enough for regular smokers but not a record-chaser, and the numbers swing a lot by version and source:
- Leafly: 18% THC and 1% CBG. Leafly still calls its potency above average.
- AllBud: 19–29% THC on average.
- Elev8 Seeds: 17–25%, depending on phenotype.
- Aggregated guides: typically 20–25% total THC, with well-dialed indoor runs reported at 26–28%.
The honest summary is low-to-mid 20s for a good batch. It's not a beginner's strain at full dose, but it's well short of the 30%+ headlines. The 1% CBG Leafly lists is a small plus, since most modern flower tests well under that, but it varies by cut. Check the COA rather than the strain name.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Lemon Gelato against the 18–29% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Lemon Gelato vs Similar Strains
- vs Lemon Cherry Gelato: the strain most often confused with it. LCG (Sunset Sherbet × GSC) has no lemon parent. It's gassier and cherry-forward, with a heavier body. Lemon Gelato is brighter, more lemon-sorbet, and lighter on its feet.
- vs Gelonade: a near-twin of the Lemon Tree version. Gelonade is Lemon Tree × Gelato #41, swapping one Gelato phenotype for another. It's sativa-leaning, sharper and more daytime. Lemon Gelato leans creamier and more relaxed.
- vs Gelato and Gelato #33: the parent line, sweet berry and cream with a calm, happy high. Lemon Gelato adds the citrus and a brighter first hour.
- vs Lemon Haze and Super Lemon Haze: the zippy lemon sativas. They have more energy and Haze spice. Lemon Gelato trades some of that buzz for cream and a relaxed body.
- vs Lemon Tree: the gassier lemon parent of version 2, more fuel and funk with less dessert.
- vs Dayglow Mousse: our closest in-stock match on the citrus nose. Honest caveat: it's a sativa-leaning, Agent Orange-line hybrid, so it runs orange-citrus rather than lemon-cream and lifts you up more than it settles you down. For the creamy, relaxed half of Lemon Gelato, Blueberry Pancakes is the better pick on our shelf.
Who Lemon Gelato Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: people who want a flavorful afternoon or evening smoke that lifts the mood without knocking them out; creative sessions, music and conversation; fans of lemon, dessert and Gelato-family strains.
Poor fit: anyone after an all-day energizer, since lemon sativas like Super Lemon Haze do that better. It's also not ideal if you want a guaranteed sleep strain or have very low tolerance and a high-THC batch. For a gentler fruit option, Strawberry 2.1 is the lighter pick on our shelf.
How to Use Lemon Gelato THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the lemon over the cream. Limonene is volatile, so start around 340–370°F for flavor and a clearer head, then move to 390–410°F for the fuller, relaxed Gelato body.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 10–15 minutes. The head change comes fast and the body follows. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the full arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Anxiety: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 38% of reviewers), consistent with its relaxed headline effect. Keep the dose modest, since too much THC can do the opposite.
- Low mood: about 30% of Leafly reviewers, in line with the euphoric onset.
- Pain: about 19% on Leafly. AllBud also lists chronic pain, cramps and muscle spasms.
- Fatigue and inflammation: named in both Leafly's and AllBud's descriptions.

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes, the most common complaints on Leafly.
- Dizziness, also on Leafly's negatives list, usually from standing up fast after a big dose.
- Racing thoughts or anxiety, possible at high doses, especially with caffeine or in unfamiliar settings.
- A quick fade. Some users find the effects shorter than expected, which invites over-redosing. Space your hits.
Is Lemon Gelato good for sleep? It can help you wind down in the evening, but most reports describe relaxation without sedation, so it's not a knockout strain. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Lemon Gelato Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Lemon and cream. A true Lemon Gelato has both. Pure lemon with no sweetness, or generic Gelato with no citrus, suggests a weak cut or a borrowed name.
- Not cherry. A loud cherry-candy nose points to Lemon Cherry Gelato, not Lemon Gelato.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Ask for the lineage. Gelato × Lemon Haze or Gelato #33 × Lemon Tree. A seller who can tell you which one knows their flower.
- Frost and stickiness, with trichomes inside the bud, not just on top.
- A proper cure, meaning bright lemon on the nose. Hay or grass smell means it was rushed, and limonene fades fast in a bad cure.
Growing Lemon Gelato
Elev8 Seeds calls its feminized Lemon Gelato easy to grow: bushy, vigorous and resilient, with heavy resin production. Most of what's published on growing it comes from that seed line.
- Flowering: about 56–63 days (8–9 weeks) indoors per Elev8 and GrowDiaries. Guides suggest Lemon Haze versions can run 9–10 weeks.
- Yield: "medium-high" indoors per Elev8; over 600 g per plant outdoors.
- Outdoors: harvest in October in the Northern Hemisphere.
- Training: expect a 1.5–2× stretch after the flip. It suits SCROG or SOG and responds well to topping.
- Smell: loud in late flower. Elev8 recommends a carbon filter.
- Feeding: a balanced diet. The dense Gelato-style colas need good airflow and controlled humidity late in flower to avoid bud rot.
- Curing: slow-cure around 58–62% relative humidity to hold the lemon.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Lemon Gelato indica or sativa?
Lemon Gelato is an indica-leaning hybrid. AllBud lists it as 70% indica / 30% sativa, and Leafly and Elev8 Seeds both call it indica-dominant. The high starts heady and euphoric, then settles into a relaxed body.
What is Lemon Gelato a cross of?
It depends on the version. Grandiflora Genetics' Lemon Gelato, the one Leafly describes, is Gelato (Thin Mint GSC × Sunset Sherbet) × Lemon Haze. AllBud and Elev8 Seeds list Gelato #33 × Lemon Tree instead.
Is Lemon Gelato the same as Lemon Cherry Gelato?
No. Lemon Cherry Gelato is a Sunset Sherbet × GSC strain popularized by Backpack Boyz, with cherry candy and gas and no lemon parent. Lemon Gelato crosses Gelato with an actual lemon strain (Lemon Haze or Lemon Tree) and tastes more like lemon sorbet over cream.
How strong is Lemon Gelato?
Leafly lists 18% THC, AllBud 19–29% and Elev8 17–25%. Most good batches land around 20–25%, so it's moderate-to-strong. Start with a small dose.
What does Lemon Gelato taste like?
Sour, zesty lemon over sweet cream on the inhale, with a blueberry note and an earthy, woody finish. Lemon Tree versions add a fuel edge.
What terpenes are in Lemon Gelato?
Leafly lists myrcene as dominant, followed by pinene and caryophyllene. Other lab summaries put limonene first, with caryophyllene, linalool and myrcene behind it.
Is Lemon Gelato the same as Gelonade?
No, but they're close. Gelonade is Lemon Tree × Gelato #41, while one Lemon Gelato version is Lemon Tree × Gelato #33. Gelonade is sativa-leaning and sharper. Lemon Gelato is indica-leaning and creamier.
Is Lemon Gelato good for anxiety?
About 38% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, the top-cited reason. High doses can still cause racing thoughts, so keep it small.
Is Lemon Gelato good for sleep?
It's better for winding down than for knocking out. Most reports describe relaxation without sedation, so it works for the evening but isn't a dedicated sleep strain.
Is Lemon Gelato good for beginners?
At a low dose, yes. Its typical 20–25% range is moderate by today's standards. Take one small puff and wait 10–15 minutes.
How long does Lemon Gelato take to flower?
About 8–9 weeks (56–63 days) indoors for the Elev8 feminized version, with outdoor harvests in October. Lemon Haze versions may run a week longer.
Where can I buy Lemon Gelato THCA flower online?
Lemon Gelato isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Dayglow Mousse THCA Flower, a bright, citrus-forward, sativa-leaning hybrid. It's more energetic than Lemon Gelato, so pair it with Blueberry Pancakes for the creamy, relaxed side. Dayglow Mousse starts from $29, is third-party lab tested, and ships free over $75.
