Oishii Strain: Archive's Candy-Gas Moonbow Backcross
The Oishii strain is an Archive Seed Bank cross of Flavor Pack #7 and Moonbow 112 F2 — in the breeder's words, essentially a Moonbow backcross. That puts Zkittlez candy, Do-Si-Dos weight and an old-school Hollywood Pure Kush gas line in one plant. The name is Japanese for "delicious," and Archive says it was picked for an intense, perfumed, incense-and-potpourri skunk flavor. Expect candy citrus and diesel on the nose, a tingly, euphoric lift and a calm, heavy body. It sits in the fruit-and-gas corner of our THCA flower collection.
Oishii is newer and less documented than its parents, so a lot of what's online is guesswork — including some guides that call its lineage a secret or guess at Mochi and Gelato. It isn't a secret. Below: the real genetics, what it smells and tastes like, how the high unfolds, how strong it actually is, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at Oishii's frosty buds.

Oishii Strain Genetics & Lineage
- Type: Hybrid. Leafly describes it as indica-dominant and SeedFinder lists its #1 phenotype as indica-dominant; AllBud calls it an even 50/50. Reviews read relaxed and body-forward, so treat it as indica-leaning.
- Ancestry: Flavor Pack #7 × Moonbow 112 F2. Weedmaps lists the male more specifically as Moonbow 112 F2 #60.
- Flavor Pack: per SeedFinder, Hollywood Pure Kush × Moonbow. Hollywood Pure Kush is an OG-style cut prized for flavor, traced back to Pure Kush and probably Hindu Kush.
- Moonbow: Archive's Zkittlez × Do-Si-Dos — candy fruit from the Z side, Cookies-and-Face Off OG weight from the Dosi side.
- Breeder: Archive Seed Bank, credited by Leafly, SeedFinder, Weedmaps and Leaf Nation. Archive also bred Do-Si-Dos and Moonbow.
- Seeds: SeedFinder lists Oishii as regular seeds only — never released feminized.
- Aliases: Leafly lists "OIS." Dispensary menus in New Jersey sell a cut as "Oishii III."
Why Oishii is "essentially a Moonbow backcross"
Look at the family tree and Moonbow shows up on both sides. Flavor Pack #7 already carries Moonbow as a parent, and the pollen donor is a Moonbow F2 line. Archive's own note, quoted on SeedFinder, says the line was built with F1 and F2 Moonbow males. The result concentrates Moonbow's Zkittlez candy and Do-Si-Dos body while the Hollywood Pure Kush side adds gas and that perfumed, incense-like skunk. If you liked Moonbow, Oishii is the closest thing to a more intense, gassier version of it.
Where the lineage confusion comes from
Some guides say Oishii's parentage is proprietary and guess at Mochi, Gelato or Sherbet based on the name and the dessert vibe. Nothing from the breeder supports that — every database that lists genetics (Leafly, SeedFinder, Weedmaps, AllBud) gives the same Flavor Pack #7 × Moonbow 112 F2 cross. Two more mix-ups to avoid:
- Oishii the strawberry company. Oishii is also a US vertical-farming brand famous for its Omakase Berry. No connection — the strain shares only the Japanese word.
- Oishii offspring. SeedFinder lists more than 20 descendants, including Black Oishii, Doughishii, Blackberry Sake and Bull's Blood, plus a separate Oishii NYZ from EZ Genetics. Those are crosses or different lines, not Oishii itself.
Oishii Terpene Profile
No lab has published a terpene breakdown for Oishii that we could verify, and Leafly's terpene field is still blank. What we can do is read the parents and the flavor reports. Moonbow batches commonly test limonene-, caryophyllene- and linalool-forward, and Oishii's reported notes — citrus, pepper-gas and perfumed floral — line up with exactly that trio, with myrcene likely behind the body weight. Caryophyllene is worth knowing on its own: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Limonene — candy citrus, mood lift
Caryophyllene — pepper, gas, the Kush backbone
Linalool — perfumed floral, calm
Myrcene — earthy, heavy body
Estimated relative profile for Oishii, inferred from its Moonbow parent and reported flavors — no published Oishii lab terpene data yet. Check the COA on any batch you buy.
- Limonene: The sweet citrus and candy top note from the Zkittlez side, and a big part of the euphoric start.
- Caryophyllene: Peppery and fuel-edged — the Kush and Do-Si-Dos backbone — and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
- Linalool: Floral and lavender-like; a likely source of the "potpourri" and "violet" notes growers describe, and of Oishii's calm.
- Myrcene: Earthy and musky; it fits the heavy, blanket-like body reviewers report.
The "skunk" in Oishii isn't really a terpene at all. Research on cannabis aroma has tied that classic skunky funk to volatile sulfur compounds, which is why two jars with similar terpene numbers can smell very different.
Appearance
AllBud describes Oishii as small, dense, heart-shaped nugs in olive green with dark purple undertones, thin red hairs and sparkling, purple-tinted white trichomes. That fits the family: Moonbow throws dense, sugar-coated buds, and the Kush side adds tight structure. Expect purple to show more on cuts grown with cool night temperatures, and a frost heavy enough to make it a solid choice for rosin.
Aroma and Flavor
Oishii smells like what it is — Zkittlez candy laid over Kush gas. The sources agree on the big picture even if the details vary:
- Leafly: "a sweet citrus nose with a fermented, skunky twist"; users tag diesel, skunk and tree fruit.
- Archive (via SeedFinder): an intense, perfumed incense-and-potpourri skunk.
- AllBud: candy, citrus, lemon and sour-sweet flavors over dank, diesel, earthy and spicy aromas.
- Leaf Nation's review: a strong, Zkittlez-like candy nose with fruit and diesel; clean, silky smoke with fruit and citrus, a Kush finish, and a gassier turn halfway through the joint.
- One SeedFinder grower: grapefruit and chili on the nose, tangerine and violet on the tongue.
Leafly reviewers call it "very smooth" and "super classic skunk." In short: candy citrus first, perfumed skunk in the middle, gas on the exhale.
Recreational Effects
On Leafly, Oishii holds a 4.7 rating from about 30 reviews, and Leafly sums it up as "mostly calming." The most-reported effects:
- Tingly: the headline effect — a body buzz that shows up early.
- Relaxed: calm without being instantly sedating at moderate doses.
- Euphoric: a real mood lift; reviewers also mention giggly, happy and creative.
- Cerebral: Leafly's description notes a cerebral high alongside the body effects.
AllBud describes a quick, energizing start that moves into a relaxing body high. Leaf Nation's reviewer felt it immediately and said it "draped over me like a weighted blanket," with a mood-boosting, creative buzz on top.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 5–10 minutes: a tingly, uplifted head change — though one Leafly reviewer noted a "delayed lift-off," so give it time.
- 15–60 minutes: the peak — euphoric and chatty, with a heavy, calm body settling in.
- 1–3 hours: a long, drifting comedown; reviewers mention a "long lasting buzz." Higher doses lean sleepy and hungry.

How Strong Is Oishii?
Strong, but the numbers online are thinner than for most strains. No Leafly THC figure has been published yet, and we didn't find a public lab batch to point to. What exists:
- AllBud: 18–23% THC.
- Vivosun's grow guide: 22–28% THC.
- Parent benchmark: SeedFinder lists Flavor Pack at 28.8% THC, and Moonbow batches commonly test in the high 20s.
- Reviewers: Leaf Nation called it "more potent than most" candy strains; a Leafly reviewer called it "pretty strong."
Oishii's one public trophy also points to its gas side: Niche Cannabis's New Jersey cut placed third in the gas category at The Billy's, per Leaf Nation. Given the parents, a well-grown batch landing in the mid-to-high 20s is realistic — but trust the COA, not the strain name.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Oishii against the 18–28% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Oishii vs Similar Strains
- vs Moonbow: the backbone. Oishii is Moonbow pushed further — more perfumed skunk and gas from the Hollywood Pure Kush side, with a similar calm, heavy finish.
- vs Zkittlez: the candy grandparent. Zkittlez is sweeter and lighter; Oishii adds gas and more body.
- vs Do-Si-Dos: the other grandparent. Dosi is earthier and more sedating; Oishii is fruitier and more euphoric up top.
- vs Rainbow Belts: another Archive Moonbow descendant — sour candy, lighter and less gassy than Oishii.
- vs Cosmic Runtz: also Zkittlez-descended candy fruit with a relaxed finish, minus the skunk-and-gas edge.
- vs Strawberry Guava crosses: our closest match on the shelf, Straw Gua Mintz (Strawberry Guava × Kush Mints), puts loud fruit over Kush gas the way Oishii does — but it's sativa-leaning and brighter, not a heavy evening strain.
Who Oishii Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: flavor chasers who like candy-and-gas jars, Moonbow and Zkittlez fans, and anyone looking for an evening strain that lifts the mood before it settles the body.
Poor fit: people who want a sharp, focused morning strain, or first-timers who won't wait out a slow build. For heavier gas and more couch, Mule Fuel (GMO Cookies × Lurch) is the indica-leaning pick on our shelf.
How to Use Oishii THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the candy citrus before the gas takes over. Around 350–380°F keeps the fruit and floral notes; 390–410°F brings out the Kush weight.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–30 minutes — some reviewers report a delayed lift-off, and the body effect builds. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the full arc. A one-hitter is a good way to keep doses small. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Low mood: about 25% of Leafly reviewers, in line with the euphoric, giggly reports.
- Anxiety: about 25% — one reviewer called it "perfect for my anxiety," and another noted "none of my usual paranoia." Dose still matters.
- Stress: about 21%, fitting Leafly's "mostly calming" summary.
- Appetite and aches: AllBud lists pain, headaches and fatigue; a SeedFinder grower tagged it "appetizing."
For a plain-language primer on how terpenes are thought to shape these effects, see Project CBD on terpenes. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.
Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry eyes and dry mouth — Leafly's top negatives; one reviewer noticed "more dry eye than dry mouth."
- Dizziness — the third most-reported negative, usually from taking too much too fast.
- Heavy drowsiness at higher doses — plan your evening around it.
- Anxiety in THC-sensitive users — less commonly reported than with racier strains, but possible with any potent flower.
Is Oishii good for sleep? It can be at a fuller dose — the body effect gets heavy. Is it good for beginners? Only with very small hits and patience. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Oishii Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Ask about genetics. A real Oishii is Archive's Flavor Pack #7 × Moonbow 112 F2. A seller who says "Mochi × Gelato" is guessing — or selling something else.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Candy and gas. Oishii should open sweet and citrusy and finish skunky and fuel-forward. Flat earth with no candy suggests a poor cure or a different cut.
- Dense, frosty, purple-tinged buds, with trichomes inside the bud, not just on top.
- A proper cure — hay or grass smell means it was rushed, and it kills Oishii's delicate perfume first.
Growing Oishii
Oishii is a regular-seed release from Archive, so you're running a phenotype hunt rather than planting clones-in-a-pack. The breeder hasn't published yield or height figures, so the numbers below mix breeder and third-party data.
- Flowering: about 63–67 days (roughly 9 weeks), per SeedFinder.
- Environment: SeedFinder lists it for indoor and outdoor growing; outdoor harvest lands around October in the Northern Hemisphere.
- Structure: the Flavor Pack side grows medium to tall and branchier than a typical OG. Topping and low-stress training keep the canopy even.
- Yield: Vivosun's guide claims 450–550 g/m² indoors and up to 600 g per plant outdoors — a third-party estimate, not breeder data.
- Color: cooler late-flower nights help bring out the purple.
- Selection: Moonbow lines vary between candy-forward and gas-forward phenotypes; keep the plants whose stems smell like perfumed candy and fuel.

Archive Seed Bank, the breeder behind Do-Si-Dos and Moonbow. It's sold as regular seeds only.
What does Oishii mean?
Oishii is Japanese for 'delicious.' Archive chose the name for the strain's intense, perfumed candy-and-skunk flavor.
Is Oishii related to Oishii strawberries?
No. Oishii is also the name of a vertical-farming company known for its Omakase Berry. The cannabis strain only shares the Japanese word.
How strong is Oishii?

About 25% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, and few report paranoia. Low doses are still the safer approach for anyone sensitive to THC.
Is Oishii good for sleep?
At fuller doses, often yes — the body effect gets heavy and blanket-like. At small doses it's more of a relaxed, euphoric evening strain.
What is Oishii III?
Oishii III is how New Jersey grower Niche Cannabis labels its cut of Oishii — the one that placed third in the gas category at The Billy's. The numeral isn't explained on menus.
How long does Oishii take to flower?
About 63–67 days, or roughly nine weeks, per SeedFinder. Outdoors, plan on an October harvest in the Northern Hemisphere.
