Strawberry Guava Strain

Strawberry Guava Strain: The Fruit Behind Two Diesel Hemp Favorites

The Strawberry Guava strain is a cross of Strawberry Banana and Papaya, credited to Oni Seed Co and Bloom Seed Co. It smells like a fruit stand dipped in candy — ripe strawberry, tropical fruit and a sugary finish — and it's sticky enough that hash makers grabbed it early: SeedFinder records it taking first place for Highest Terpenes in a Non-Solvent at the 2017 Chalice. The high starts happy and euphoric and settles into a relaxed body.

It also matters on our shelf. Strawberry Guava is a parent of two strains Diesel Hemp carries: Straw Gua Mintz (Strawberry Guava × Kush Mints) and Strawberry 2.1 (Strawberry Guava × OG Kush Breath 2.1). Below: where it comes from, the breeder question, potency, terpenes, effects, how its offspring compare, how to use it, how to grow it and how to judge a bag. Both offspring are in our THCA flower collection.

Quick Facts

In short: A Strawberry Banana × Papaya cross — ripe strawberry, tropical fruit and candy sweetness, a happy, euphoric start that settles into a relaxed body, and heavy resin that made it a hash-maker favorite. A parent of Straw Gua Mintz and Strawberry 2.1.

Strawberry Guava Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. AllBud lists it about 70% indica, SeedFinder "mostly indica," and Leafly's reviewers call it "mostly calming." Diesel Hemp's product pages describe Strawberry Guava as the sativa-leaning, energizing side of its crosses — see "Indica or sativa?" below.
  • Ancestry: Strawberry Banana (also sold as Strawnana) × Papaya.
  • Breeder: Oni Seed Co per Leafly and Weedmaps; Bloom Seed Co per SeedFinder.
  • THC: Leafly lists 23% with about 1% CBG; Weedmaps 20–28%; AllBud 18–30%.
  • CBD: Negligible (about 0.1% per GrowDiaries).
  • Aliases: Straw Guava, StrawGuava, Strawguava.

Who bred Strawberry Guava — Oni or Bloom?

Both names come up, and the sources don't fully settle it. Leafly, Weedmaps and Massachusetts grower Theory Wellness credit Oni Seed Co. SeedFinder lists it under Bloom Seed Co, describing it as "a cross of 14er StrawNana and a rare cut of Papaya" sold as feminized seeds — and its own family tree points back to Oni. GrowDiaries lists Oni Seeds working with Bloom Seed Co. The lineage itself is consistent: a Strawberry Banana (Strawnana) cut crossed with Papaya. The likeliest reading is a shared Oni–Bloom project, and that's how we describe it.

Papaya is the connecting thread. Oni Seed Co re-worked Nirvana's Papaya into one of the most-used fruit breeding lines of the last decade, and Strawberry Banana brings the strawberry candy and resin. Strawberry Guava took the best of both: louder fruit than either parent alone and a sticky, terpene-heavy resin.

The Strawberry Guava family: strains bred from it

Strawberry Guava became breeding stock in its own right. Leafly lists The Fizz and Strawberry Bubbles as offspring, and CultOfVar's family tree adds Melted Strawberries, Pink Marshmallow, Fried Strawberries, Strawberry Cooler, Guava Pie and BTY Fresa. Two more are on our shelf:

  • Strawberry 2.1 — Strawberry Guava × OG Kush Breath 2.1, per our product page. Ripe strawberry up front with a faint kick of gas, and an uplifting, social high.
  • Straw Gua Mintz — Strawberry Guava × Kush Mints. Strawberry, guava and banana over a cool, creamy mint exhale. Our product page credits Strawberry Guava with "the tropical fruit aroma, uplifting cerebral energy, and award-winning terpene levels," and Kush Mints with the dense structure and the mint.

Strawberry Guava Terpene Profile

Leafly's chemistry data ranks myrcene first, then limonene and caryophyllene (its written description calls limonene dominant, so the top two are close). Verano lists the same three; GrowDiaries names myrcene and limonene as dominant; one dispensary batch tested by Elevate led with caryophyllene, limonene and pinene. The real headline is quantity: Strawberry Guava's 2017 Chalice win was for highest terpenes in a solventless concentrate. For the caryophyllene angle, a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Myrcene — ripe tropical fruit, the relaxed body

Limonene — strawberry-citrus brightness, the happy lift

Caryophyllene — light pepper and earth underneath

Pinene — a fresh edge in some batches

Typical relative profile for Strawberry Guava — myrcene-led per Leafly's chemistry data, with limonene close behind. Some batches lead with caryophyllene.

  • Myrcene: Musky, ripe-fruit and earthy — the mango-papaya depth, and the source of the calm body.
  • Limonene: Bright citrus that sharpens the strawberry and drives the happy, euphoric onset.
  • Caryophyllene: A light peppery, earthy floor — AllBud's "dank, earthy, pungent" notes.
  • Pinene: Shows up in some lab results, adding a fresh edge.

The candy note comes from the whole mix, not one terpene. Bloom's description of an "almost-guava, heavy starburst and sweet cheese flavor" sums it up. The cheese hint likely comes from the Papaya side.

Appearance

AllBud describes "small and fat rounded dark olive green nugs with thin light orange hairs" covered in "tiny frosty white crystal trichomes." Reviewers on the same page describe light green, medium-dense buds loaded with resin. The resin is the reason it won: Weedmaps notes its "heavy resin production" made it a natural fit for solventless concentrates, and SeedFinder's breeder notes describe "impressive resin production." Expect sticky buds that grind down gummy rather than dusty.

Aroma and Flavor

Open a jar and it's fruit first. Leafly's top flavors are strawberry, apricot and tree fruit; Weedmaps' user data splits strawberry (43%), sweet (29%) and tropical (29%). Underneath sits a dank, pungent, earthy layer — AllBud says the smell "fills a room" when you break a bud — and CultOfVar's crowd data puts it strongest on dark fruit and candy sweetness. The inhale is sweet strawberry; the exhale, per AllBud, carries "hints of tropical guava." Reviewers also pick up banana, peach and mango.

In the offspring, the fruit survives. Straw Gua Mintz layers strawberry, guava and banana over cool mint; Strawberry 2.1 is ripe strawberry with a faint fuel finish.

Recreational Effects

Strawberry Guava starts in the head and finishes in the body. Leafly's reviewers (4.6 stars from 126 ratings) list these effects most:

  • Relaxed: the most-reported effect; a warm, calm body.
  • Happy and euphoric: the opening lift — giggly and sociable.
  • Creative and uplifted: common in the first hour, especially at low doses.
  • Hungry: the munchies are real; AllBud says it can leave you "pretty hungry."

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 5–10 minutes: a quick, bright head lift. Theory Wellness calls it a "quick-hitting, heady lift."
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak — happy and social, with the body loosening up.
  • 1–3 hours: a relaxed taper. At higher doses, AllBud warns of "slightly couch-locked."

Indica or sativa?

This is where sources split. Independent databases call Strawberry Guava indica-leaning: AllBud says 70% indica, SeedFinder "mostly indica" (it also notes a stretchy, sativa-dominant phenotype), and Verano lists it as an indica. Diesel Hemp's product pages describe it as the sativa-leaning, energizing parent in Straw Gua Mintz and Strawberry 2.1. Both can be true: the cut matters, and so does the dose. A small amount feels bright and social; a big session feels like an indica.

How Strong Is Strawberry Guava?

Strong for a fruit strain, though the numbers vary by grower:

  • Leafly: 23% THC and about 1% CBG — "higher THC than average."
  • Weedmaps: 20–28%.
  • AllBud: 18–30%.
  • GrowDiaries: about 23% THC, 0.1% CBD.
  • A single dispensary batch (Elevate): 28–35% — high end, not typical.

Is the guava strain strong? Yes — most batches land in the low-to-mid 20s, and the big terpene load can make it feel stronger than the number. Leafly calls it "an ideal choice for experienced cannabis consumers." For comparison, our Straw Gua Mintz lists 25–30% THCA on its product page.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Strawberry Guava batch against the 20–28% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Strawberry Guava vs Similar Strains

  • vs Strawberry 2.1: its offspring with OG Kush Breath 2.1. More strawberry, a faint gas finish, and a brighter, more social high. In stock from $22.
  • vs Straw Gua Mintz: its offspring with Kush Mints. The same strawberry-guava-banana fruit with a cool, creamy mint exhale and a firmer, denser bud. Our closest match, from $29.
  • vs Strawberry Banana: the candy-sweet parent. Strawberry Guava adds Papaya's tropical depth.
  • vs Papaya: the tropical, heavier parent. Strawberry Guava is sweeter and more strawberry.
  • vs Guava: a different strain with a similar name — another tropical-fruit strain, brighter and more uplifting, with no strawberry parent. Don't mix them up on a menu.
  • vs Strawberry Cough: the classic strawberry sativa — much more energetic, less tropical.

Who Strawberry Guava Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: fruit-flavor lovers; afternoon-to-evening sessions; social smoking that ends on the couch; hash and rosin fans.

Poor fit: beginners (Leafly lists "paranoid" among its negatives) or anyone who needs a sharp, all-day sativa. For the same fruit with a brighter, more daytime lift, Strawberry 2.1 is the lighter pick; for fruit plus a cool mint finish, Straw Gua Mintz.

How to Use Strawberry Guava THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste all that fruit. Around 350–380°F keeps the strawberry and tropical top notes; 390–410°F brings out the earthier body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–30 minutes. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the full arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Anxiety: the most-cited reason, about 36% of Leafly reviewers — though "paranoid" also appears among its negatives, so keep the dose low.
  • Stress: about 24%.
  • Low mood: about 23%, consistent with the happy, euphoric onset.
  • Appetite: "hungry" is one of its top effects.

For a plain-language primer on how terpenes are thought to shape these effects, see Project CBD on terpenes. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — Leafly's most-reported negatives.
  • Paranoia — at high doses or low tolerance.
  • Dizziness — mentioned on GrowDiaries, usually from overdoing it.
  • Couch-lock and munchies — at higher doses.

Is Strawberry Guava good for sleep? At higher doses, many reviewers find it relaxing enough to wind down with; at low doses it's more social than sleepy. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Fruit you can smell through the bag. Strawberry, tropical fruit and candy should be obvious. Earthy with no fruit means a weak cut or a bad cure.
  • Sticky resin. This is a hash-maker's strain — buds should feel tacky.
  • Know the name. Strawberry Guava isn't Guava, and it isn't Strawberry Cough. Ask the seller for the lineage.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • A proper cure — fruit terpenes fade fast in a rushed or over-dried jar.

Growing Strawberry Guava

Strawberry Guava is a resin-and-terpene plant first, and SeedFinder says it's sold as feminized seeds. Notes from the breeder description and grower logs:

  • Flowering: 9–10 weeks (about 67 days) per SeedFinder; one GrowDiaries listing says 95 days, an outlier.
  • Yield: "Massive," per the Bloom description; GrowDiaries reports around 475 g/m².
  • Veg: 3–4 weeks, depending on how you train it.
  • Feeding and water: moderate feed, handles intense light, likes a light PK boost in flower — and "does not like to stay wet," so let the root zone dry between waterings.
  • Phenotypes: expect variation; SeedFinder notes a tall, stretchy, sativa-dominant pheno alongside the stockier indica-leaning type.

Is Strawberry Guava THCA Flower Legal?
