Lemon OG Strain

Lemon OG Strain: Lemon Skunk Meets The OG #18

The Lemon OG strain is a citrus OG: the Las Vegas cut of Lemon Skunk crossed with The OG #18, an OG Kush selection. DNA Genetics sells it as "the true Lemon OG Kush," and it delivers what the name promises — sweet lemon peel and pine on top, OG fuel and skunk underneath. The high comes on fast and bright, then settles into a relaxed, heavy-limbed calm that most people save for the evening. If you like the lemon-and-gas corner of our THCA flower collection, this is one of the strains that defined it.

It's also easy to confuse. Lemon OG is not Lemon Kush, not Super Lemon OG, and the "who bred it" question has two answers depending on which database you read. Below: the real lineage, the DNA vs Apothecary question, the terpenes, how the high unfolds, how strong it is, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at Lemon OG's frosty buds.

Lemon OG Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Indica-leaning hybrid. DNA Genetics lists it 60% indica / 40% sativa on SeedFinder; AllBud calls it 50/50; Leafly files it as a hybrid but describes it as indica-dominant.
  • Ancestry: Las Vegas Lemon Skunk × The OG #18. Every major source agrees on the parents — the only arguments are about who made the cross.
  • Breeder: DNA Genetics sells the seed line as Lemon OG Kush. Weedmaps says it is "most often attributed to Apothecary Genetics in Northern California."
  • THC: Leafly 19%; AllBud 22%; Vivosun 18–24%.
  • CBD: Negligible — well under 1%. Leafly lists about 1% CBG; AllBud about 1% CBN.
  • Aliases: Lemon OG Kush. (Not the same as Super Lemon OG, which has its own Leafly entry.)

The parents

Lemon Skunk is the citrus side — a Skunk-family line prized for loud lemon. DNA's description says they used a specific "Las Vegas Lemon Skunk cut." The OG #18 is the gas side. SeedFinder traces it to Reserva Privada's OG Kush (a Christopher Wallace cut), and Reserva Privada is DNA Genetics' OG line. It brings the dense buds, the resin, the fuel, and the heavy body.

DNA Genetics or Apothecary Genetics?

Both names attach to Lemon OG, and both have real versions:

  • DNA Genetics lists Lemon OG Kush as Las Vegas Lemon Skunk × The OG #18, sold only as feminized seeds, and calls it "the true Lemon OG Kush." Since The OG #18 is DNA's own Reserva Privada cut, this is the version most guides describe.
  • Apothecary Genetics lists a Lemon OG on SeedFinder with the genetics "LEMON X OG" — and its genealogy shows Lemon OG Kush crossed with Joe's OG Kush. That reads as a related, OG-heavier version built from the original, not the first cross. It placed 2nd in the Outdoor Indica category at the 2018 Santa Cruz Cup.

Our read: the Lemon Skunk × OG #18 cross is DNA's, and Apothecary's is a later, heavier take. If a seller names the breeder, you'll know which one you're getting.

Lemon OG Terpene Profile

Leafly lists caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, followed by myrcene and limonene. Other guides put limonene first, with pinene and a little linalool behind it. The disagreement makes sense — the Lemon Skunk side pushes limonene up, the OG side pushes caryophyllene and myrcene, and which wins depends on the cut and the grow. Beta-caryophyllene is worth knowing on its own: a 2008 PNAS study identified it as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, fuel, the OG backbone

Limonene — lemon peel, bright lift

Myrcene — earthy, relaxed body

Pinene — pine, clear head

Typical relative profile for Lemon OG — caryophyllene-led per Leafly. Lemon-forward cuts often test limonene-first.

  • Caryophyllene: The peppery, fuel-edged OG backbone, and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
  • Limonene: The lemon peel. It's the Lemon Skunk side's signature and a driver of the fast, upbeat onset.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and musky; the likely engine behind the relaxed, sleepy finish Leafly reviewers report.
  • Pinene: The pine note in the taste and part of why the first half hour reads clear rather than foggy.

The "lemon pine" flavor both breeders describe is limonene and pinene working together; the gas is the OG #18 showing through.

Appearance

Lemon OG looks like an OG: dense, conical, medium-sized buds in lime to forest green, threaded with orange-to-amber pistils and a thick coat of trichomes. DNA Genetics describes the plant as short and compact for an OG Kush variety, and the buds follow suit — tight and resinous rather than airy. The resin is a big part of why the OG #18 side is valued, and it's why Lemon OG turns up as rosin and extracts as well as flower.

Aroma and Flavor

Open a jar and the first hit is fresh lemon peel and sweet citrus. Behind it comes pine, a skunky funk, and the fuel of the OG. Break a bud and the gas gets louder. DNA's own description calls it "an incredible lemony, gassy taste"; Apothecary sums it up as "sweet lemon pine." SeedFinder's DNA listing adds orange blossom, earth and diesel to the nose. On Weedmaps, reported flavors split about 65% lemon, 20% skunk and 15% citrus. The inhale is sweet lemon; the exhale is earthier, with pepper and fuel on the finish. Lower vape temperatures keep more of the lemon.

Recreational Effects

Lemon OG is a fast starter. Leafly's description calls it a "quick-acting sleepy head sensation" and notes that it trades longevity for speed. On Leafly, with more than 560 ratings, the top reported effects are:

  • Relaxed: the headline effect — a heavy-limbed calm once the onset passes.
  • Sleepy: especially at higher doses or late in the day.
  • Hungry: a strong appetite boost — plan for snacks.

AllBud adds creative, focused and happy for the early part of the high, and Weedmaps describes an upbeat, clear-headed opening that gives way to a heavy-limbed calm. Leafly also notes it feels more psychoactive than most kush strains while still landing heavy in the body.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 5 minutes: a quick, bright lift — lemon-fresh, chatty, mood up.
  • 15–45 minutes: the body catches up. Shoulders drop, appetite wakes up, the couch looks good.
  • 1–2 hours: a gentle comedown toward sleepy. Several reviewers say the effects don't last as long as other OGs.

Shorter duration isn't a flaw for everyone — it makes Lemon OG easy to time for the end of the day.

How Strong Is Lemon OG?

Lemon OG is a solid mid-to-high potency strain, not a record-chaser. The numbers by source:

  • Leafly: 19% THC, about 1% CBG — which Leafly calls higher than average.
  • AllBud: 22% THC, about 1% CBN.
  • Vivosun: 18–24% THC, 0.1–0.2% CBD.

Where it punches above its number is the onset. It hits fast — one AllBud reviewer says it "kicks like a mule at first" — so it feels stronger in the first 15 minutes than a 19–22% label suggests. Then it fades sooner than a heavy OG. Batch and grower matter more than the name, so read the lab report, not the menu.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Lemon OG batch against the 18–24% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Lemon OG vs Similar Strains

  • vs Lemon Kush: the most common mix-up. Lemon Kush is a different cross — usually Master Kush × Lemon Joy, or Lemon G × Afghani — and Leafly's reviewers call it happy, giggly and uplifted. Lemon OG is built on The OG #18, tastes gassier, and Leafly's reviewers call it relaxed, sleepy and hungry. Lemon Kush is the afternoon pick; Lemon OG is the evening one.
  • vs Lemon Skunk: the citrus parent. Lemon Skunk is brighter, skunkier and more energetic; Lemon OG adds OG fuel and a heavier body.
  • vs OG Kush: the gas side of the family. OG Kush is earthier and more pine-fuel; Lemon OG puts a sweet lemon top note over the same backbone.
  • vs Sour OG and Lemon Diesel: the other citrus-gas classics. Sour OG is sharper and more diesel; Lemon Diesel runs more energetic.
  • vs Super Lemon Haze: both lemon-forward, but Super Lemon Haze is a sativa-leaning daytime strain. Opposite end of the day.
  • vs Dayglow Mousse: our closest in-stock match. Its Dayglow parent is Agent Orange × Slimer OG, so it shares the citrus-over-OG structure — but it runs brighter and more daytime than Lemon OG.

Who Lemon OG Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: evening smokers who want flavor and a fast wind-down; anyone who likes lemon but finds Haze strains too racy; people who want a big appetite boost.

Poor fit: anyone looking for an all-day functional strain, or a long-lasting high. For a lemon-bright daytime option, Dayglow Mousse is the better pick on our shelf; for a heavier night, Mule Fuel.

How to Use Lemon OG THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the lemon before the fuel takes over. Around 340–370°F keeps the citrus and pine; 390–410°F brings out the OG weight and the sleepy side.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15 minutes — Lemon OG hits fast, so you'll know quickly. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the full arc. Because it fades sooner than most OGs, resist re-dosing too early. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: about 30% of Leafly reviewers.
  • Anxiety: about 30% — consistent with the relaxed headline effect, though low doses are the safer approach.
  • Pain: about 26% of Leafly reviewers; AllBud also lists chronic pain.
  • Sleep and appetite: AllBud lists insomnia and loss of appetite, matching Leafly's "sleepy" and "hungry" effects.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly.
  • Headache — Leafly's third most-reported negative.
  • Couch-lock and grogginess — at higher doses, the OG side can flatten you.
  • Dizziness or mild paranoia — occasionally reported by THC-sensitive users.

Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Lemon OG Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Lemon and gas. Real Lemon OG has both. All lemon and no fuel suggests a Haze or Lemon Skunk; all fuel and no lemon suggests a plain OG.
  • Ask about the breeder. DNA's Lemon OG Kush and Apothecary's Lemon OG are related but not identical — a good seller knows which one they have.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Dense, resinous buds. OG #18 genetics should feel tight and sticky, not fluffy.
  • A proper cure — hay or grass smell means the lemon terpenes were lost in a rushed dry.

Growing Lemon OG

Lemon OG is a manageable OG — compact, fast and resinous. Weedmaps rates it beginner-to-moderate.

  • Flowering: 8–9 weeks indoors per DNA Genetics and Apothecary (about 56–63 days); Leafly and AllBud say 8–10.
  • Yield: DNA lists 450–550 g/m² indoors; Apothecary lists 250–350 g/m² for its cut.
  • Height and structure: short and compact for an OG; DNA says no pinching or topping is needed. SeedFinder notes three phenotypes, including a taller, slower sativa-leaning one.
  • Outdoors: likes a warm, dry, Mediterranean-style climate; harvest around early October in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • Seeds: DNA Genetics' Lemon OG Kush is sold as feminized seeds only. Autoflower versions also exist.
