Punch Breath Strain

Punch Breath Strain: Grape Candy Meets Cookie Dough

The Punch Breath strain is an indica-leaning hybrid from Symbiotic Genetics — a cross of Mendo Breath and Purple Punch that tastes like sweet grape and berries folded into cookie dough, with an earthy, slightly gassy funk underneath. It's a fast-hitting, heavy-bodied smoke. On Leafly, the most-reported effects are sleepy, relaxed and hungry, and the strain page warns it's "not for low tolerance or beginner smokers." If you want a dessert-sweet evening flower, start with our THCA flower collection.

It's also a strain where the numbers online don't agree. Leafly's own page lists 18% THC in one spot and "hovering around 30%" in another. One database calls it uplifting and sociable; most reviewers call it a nightcap. Flavor descriptions range from grape candy and bubblegum to chestnut and caramel. Below: what the breeder-linked databases actually say, what real lab-tested batches came in at, how the high unfolds, and how to judge a bag — plus what we honestly don't know.

A 360° look at Punch Breath's frosty buds.

Punch Breath Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Indica-leaning hybrid. AllBud lists it as a 70% indica / 30% sativa indica-dominant hybrid; SeedFinder calls it "mostly indica"; Leafly simply says hybrid.
  • Breeder: Symbiotic Genetics, credited by both Weedmaps and SeedFinder. Leafly and AllBud don't name a breeder.
  • Parents: SeedFinder lists the cross as Mendo Breath F2 × Purple Punch F2. Weedmaps words it as Mendo Breath crossed with "an F2 phenotype of Purple Punch." Leafly, AllBud and iHeartJane shorten it to Mendo Breath × Purple Punch.
  • THC: anywhere from 16% to about 30% depending on who you ask — see the potency section below.
  • CBG: Leafly lists 1%. One Illinois lab-tested batch showed 0.54% CBGa.
  • Seeds: SeedFinder says it was never offered as feminized seeds, and Weedmaps says it isn't available as seeds or clones.

The Mendo Breath side

SeedFinder traces the Mendo Breath used here to Gage Green Genetics — an F2, meaning two Mendo Breath F1 plants (one listed as "pheno #2") were bred together. Mendo Breath itself is listed as OGKB (OG Kush Breath, marked "probably") × Mendo Montage. That's where Punch Breath gets its doughy, vanilla-caramel sweetness and the earthy, Kush-style funk on the exhale. The "Breath" in the name comes from this side.

The Purple Punch side

On the other side is Purple Punch, which SeedFinder lists as Larry OG × Granddaddy Purple (the GDP parent marked "probably"). Larry OG goes back to OG Kush and Sour Diesel. Purple Punch is the grape-candy, blueberry-muffin dessert strain, and it's the likely source of Punch Breath's grape, berry and purple flecks — plus a lot of its sedation. The "Punch" is this side.

Who are Symbiotic Genetics?

Symbiotic Genetics is a seed breeder that worked heavily with the Purple Punch line — SeedFinder lists a Purple Punch 2.0 under its name, and the same breeder is credited with Modified Grapes, another grape-forward cross. We couldn't find a release year for Punch Breath or any statement from the breeder about how it was selected, so we're not going to invent one.

Punch Breath's offspring

SeedFinder counts two direct descendants: Platinum OG Punch Breath from Tarantula Genetics (Platinum OG × Punch Breath) and Satsuma Princess OG from Exhalt Genetics, which uses a Fuel OG × Punch Breath parent. Neither is common on dispensary menus.

Punch Breath Terpene Profile

Leafly lists limonene as Punch Breath's dominant terpene, followed by caryophyllene and myrcene; iHeartJane names the same three. One Illinois grower's batch (Bedford Grow, reviewed by Illinois News Joint) listed limonene, β-myrcene, α-pinene, β-caryophyllene and β-pinene as primary terpenes — but no source we found publishes measured percentages. Caryophyllene is the one with real research interest: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Limonene — citrus lift, the bright edge on the grape

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, earthy depth

Myrcene — earthy, musky, the couch-lock reputation

Pinene — pine, a little clarity up top

Estimated relative profile for Punch Breath — order from Leafly and iHeartJane (limonene, caryophyllene, myrcene) and one Illinois batch's terpene list (adding pinene). No source publishes measured percentages, so the bar lengths are illustrative, not lab data.

  • Limonene: The dominant terpene on Leafly. It adds the bright, tangy edge that keeps the grape from tasting flat, and probably explains the quick mood lift people describe at onset.
  • Caryophyllene: Pepper and spice under the sweetness — part of the earthy, Kush-style funk the Mendo Breath side brings.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and musky. It's the terpene most often linked with heavy, relaxed, "couch-lock" strains, which fits Punch Breath's reputation — though the link is anecdotal, not proven.
  • Pinene: Both alpha- and beta-pinene showed up on one grower's list, which matches the pine note in that batch's aroma.

No single terpene makes the "grape." Like most Purple Punch descendants, it's the blend — sweet esters, citrus, spice and earth together — and it changes from grower to grower.

Appearance

AllBud describes "super dense grape-shaped minty green nugs" with orange hairs and a coat of white crystal trichomes. Leafly describes light green buds with red, orange and purple hairs, "heavily coated in trichomes." Colorado Harvest Company calls them dense, purple-flecked and thickly frosted, and an Illinois batch reviewed by Illinois News Joint showed bright green buds with purple sugar leaves, orange hairs and milky frost. Expect dense, sticky, green flower with purple accents rather than a fully purple bud — the Purple Punch color shows up in flecks and leaves, not the whole nug.

Aroma and Flavor

Open a jar and you get sweet berries and grape first, then a pungent, tangy, earthy base. Leafly describes the flavor as "sweet berries in cookie dough" and lists berry, tropical and grape. AllBud's tasters get "sweet and fruity grape candy" with fresh bubblegum, over an earthy aroma with tangy berry. iHeartJane adds blackberry, sweet dough and a little diesel.

The Mendo Breath side pulls it in a more dessert-bakery direction. Weedmaps's top reported aromas are vanilla, caramel and grape, with chestnut and earth on the flavor side. Colorado Harvest Company calls it sweet grape and berry with "vanilla frosting," earthy musk and a gassy swirl, and a creamy, pungent exhale. One Illinois review of a One Day batch went further — creamy dough, candied lavender, licorice and floral incense. In short: grape-berry dessert on top, dough and vanilla in the middle, earth and a little gas at the bottom.

Recreational Effects

Punch Breath is an evening strain for most people. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.5 rating from 72 reviews, the most-reported effects are:

  • Sleepy: the top effect. One reviewer says it "calms nerves and mentally knocks you the absolute f out."
  • Relaxed: a heavy, tingly body that builds after the first rush. Colorado Harvest Company describes "slow-building body weight."
  • Hungry: the munchies are real — one Illinois reviewer said it boosted appetite on two separate occasions.
  • Uplifted and happy early on: Leafly's description calls the start "relaxing, uplifting, tingly and blissful," and AllBud lists happy, sociable and uplifting alongside calming and body high.

AllBud describes a "tingly, frenzied" start that turns calming and mildly sedating — which is the honest summary. The head lifts first; the body wins.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First few minutes: fast onset. Leafly and AllBud both say it hits quickly — a tingly mood lift and a clear, soothing headspace.
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak. The body gets warm and heavy; one reviewer reported strong couch-lock and lower motivation.
  • 1–3 hours: a long, relaxed settle. One reviewer described muscle relaxation lasting hours, followed by fatigue and good sleep.

Because it ends heavy, save it for after the day's work is done.

How Strong Is Punch Breath?

Strong — but the published numbers are all over the place:

  • Leafly: 18% THC in the header, yet the description says THC is "hovering around 30%." Leafly still rates it higher than average and warns beginners away.
  • AllBud: 16–19% THC.
  • Bedford Grow batch (Illinois News Joint): 23.10% THCA, 0.46% THC and 24.10% total cannabinoids.
  • One Day batch (Illinois News Joint): 28.52% THCA and 0.31% delta-9 THC.

The two real lab-tested batches we found landed in the mid-to-high 20s, which matches its heavy reputation better than the 16–19% figure. The "30%" claim has no lab report behind it. A realistic expectation for well-grown Punch Breath is low-to-high 20s, and the fast, sedating effect makes it feel stronger than the number alone.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Punch Breath against the 16–30% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Why Is It Called Punch Breath?

The name is just the two parents mashed together — Purple Punch plus Mendo Breath. It's part of a crowded "Breath" family that traces back to OG Kush Breath: Gorilla Breath, Garlic Breath, Jelly Breath and Peanut Butter Breath all borrow the name for the same reason. It's also not to be confused with Fruit Punch or Candy Punch, which are different strains.

Where You'll Find Punch Breath

Since seeds aren't widely available, Punch Breath circulates mostly as clone-only cuts in state markets. On Weedmaps and Leafly you'll see it as flower from Garden First, Nuthera, Indico, Trichome Farms, Bedford Grow and One Day, as crumble on dispensary menus, and as live badder from Raw Garden. One Weedmaps listing even shows a Punch Breath clone from Kaprikorn — so "unavailable as clones" may simply mean rare. Because so many growers carry it, expect real variation from cut to cut.

Punch Breath vs Similar Strains

  • vs Purple Punch: the grape parent. Purple Punch is cleaner grape-candy and blueberry muffin; Punch Breath adds dough, vanilla, earth and more weight.
  • vs Mendo Breath: the dough-and-caramel parent. Mendo Breath is earthier and less fruity; Punch Breath gets the grape and berry up front.
  • vs Granddaddy Purple: the classic grape nightcap behind Purple Punch. GDP is more straightforward grape and berry; Punch Breath is sweeter and doughier.
  • vs Gorilla Breath: another Breath cross that runs heavy, but much gassier and earthier with less fruit.
  • vs Grape Ape: if grape and sedation are all you want, Grape Ape is the old-school option.
  • vs Super Boof: our featured in-stock pick, and honestly not a twin. Its Slurricane parent carries Purple Punch, and it shares the sweet berry-grape dessert nose and heavy finish — but Super Boof runs louder candy fruit over gas, where Punch Breath leans doughy and earthy. Want something gassier and heavier? Mule Fuel is the fuel-forward pick on our shelf.

Who Punch Breath Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: evening and nighttime smokers, people who want help winding down or getting an appetite, grape and dessert flavor fans, and anyone who likes a fast, heavy body high.

Poor fit: beginners and low-tolerance users — Leafly says so plainly — anyone who needs to be productive afterward, and people who get paranoid on strong THC. For a sweet, heavy-handed evening flower on our shelf, Super Boof is the pick, from $65 for a half ounce.

How to Use Punch Breath THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the grape and dough. Lower temperatures, around 350–380°F, keep the berry and vanilla bright; 390–410°F brings out the earth and spice and leans heavier.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one small puff, then wait 15–30 minutes — this strain hits fast and heavier than it tastes. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full arc. Plan to stay in. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 27% of reviewers).
  • Insomnia: about 20% of Leafly reviewers, consistent with "sleepy" being the top effect.
  • Low mood: about 20% of Leafly reviewers mention depression; AllBud lists it too.
  • Pain and muscle tension: AllBud lists chronic pain and cramps or muscle spasms; one Illinois reviewer described hours of muscle relaxation.
  • Nausea and appetite: AllBud lists nausea and appetite loss, and one reviewer reported both improving.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly.
  • Paranoia — listed among Leafly's negatives, more likely at high doses or low tolerance.
  • Couch-lock and low motivation — great at night, a problem if you have plans.
  • Overdoing it — it hits fast, so stacking hits before the first one lands is the easy mistake.

Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Punch Breath Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask where the cut came from. Punch Breath is mostly passed around as clones, so a named grower and a consistent cut matter.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Real batches have tested in the 23–29% THCA range; treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Grape and dough. Good Punch Breath smells like sweet berry and grape over a doughy, earthy funk. Flat, hay-like flower with no fruit is old or mislabeled.
  • Dense, frosty buds — tight, sticky nugs with heavy white trichome coverage and some purple in the leaves.
  • A proper cure — slightly sticky, not crumbly, and no grassy smell.

Growing Punch Breath

There's very little published grow data for Punch Breath, and we'd rather tell you that than make numbers up.

  • Plant structure: Weedmaps describes an indica-leaning plant with forest-green coloring and wide, bushy fan leaves.
  • Environment: it grows indoors and outdoors, per Weedmaps and SeedFinder.
  • Flowering time: unknown. Weedmaps says "little is known about its flowering period," and SeedFinder doesn't list one. Its indica-leaning Purple Punch and Mendo Breath parents suggest a fairly standard indoor flower, but no source confirms a number.
  • Yield: "above-average yields in ideal growing conditions," per Weedmaps — no figure given.
  • Getting it: SeedFinder says it was never released as feminized seeds, and Weedmaps says seeds and clones are unavailable — though at least one clone listing exists. Most growers will need a trusted clone source.
