Rainbow Sherbet Strain

Rainbow Sherbet Strain: One Name, Two Very Different Family Trees

The Rainbow Sherbet strain is a sweet, fruit-candy hybrid known for a giggly, chilled-out high — and for causing more confusion than almost any dessert strain on the market. The classic version, listed on Leafly and AllBud, is Champagne × Blackberry. The modern hype cuts, RS11 and RS54 ("Rainbow Sherbert #11" and "#54"), are a completely different cross: Pink Guava × Sunset Sherbert, bred by Deo Farms in Oakland. It sits in the candy-fruit corner of our THCA flower collection.

And no, it isn't Sunset Sherbet with a new label. Below: which Rainbow Sherbet is which, what each one tastes and feels like, what the potency numbers mean, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag before you buy.

A 360° look at Rainbow Sherbet's frosty, orange-haired buds.

Rainbow Sherbet Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. Leafly calls the classic version "evenly-balanced" and AllBud lists it 50% indica / 50% sativa. One seed vendor (Hypnoseeds) lists 45% indica / 55% sativa; Terrapin Care Station lists its Rainbow Sherb #54 as 70% indica.
  • Classic ancestry: Champagne × Blackberry, per Leafly and AllBud. Neither names a breeder, and we couldn't find one documented anywhere reliable.
  • Modern ancestry (RS11 / RS54): Pink Guava — from Dying Breed Seeds' OZ Kush project — crossed with Sunset Sherbert, by Deo Farms of Oakland, California, and selected and popularized by Wizard Trees in Los Angeles, per Leafly's RS11 page.
  • THC: Leafly lists 18% for the classic and 24% for RS11; AllBud 20–22%; Hypnoseeds 22%.
  • CBD: Essentially none — Leafly lists 0% CBD, with about 1% CBG on RS11.
  • Aliases: Rainbow Sherbert, Rbs; RS11, RS-11, Rainbow Sherbert #11; RS54, R54, "Studio 54."

Classic Rainbow Sherbet vs RS11 and RS54

Here's the honest version: the name "Rainbow Sherbet" now covers two unrelated lines.

  • Classic Rainbow Sherbet (Champagne × Blackberry): the older listing. Leafly describes it as "notably tasty" with "hints of sugar and fruit," chilled out "but focused enough to do something creative," and warns that big doses turn it into "heavy-hitting euphoria."
  • RS11 (Rainbow Sherbert #11): the Deo Farms Pink Guava × Sunset Sherbert selection. Leafly's tasters call it apricot, peach and citrus, with focused, giggly and relaxed effects; its January 2025 strain highlight says "the RS11 strain really does taste like Rainbow Sherbet."
  • RS54 (Rainbow Sherbert #54): RS11's sister — per Leafly, the 54th plant from the same cross, nicknamed "Studio 54," with a "rainbow sherbert gasoline taste." Leafly says Wizard Trees released RS54 clones in California in 2022.

Some sources blur the two. One widely shared strain guide (JointCommerce) describes RS11 as a phenotype of the Champagne × Blackberry line, which contradicts Leafly's breeder-based listing for RS11. We go with Leafly and the breeder credit. Practically, when a menu just says "Rainbow Sherbet," ask which one — a modern craft cut is far more likely to be RS11 or RS54.

Rainbow Sherbet vs Sunset Sherbet: not the same strain

Sunset Sherbet is Girl Scout Cookies × Pink Panties — an indica-dominant, creamy-doughy relaxer from the Cookie Fam circle. The classic Rainbow Sherbet has no Sunset Sherbet in it at all. RS11 and RS54 do: Sunset Sherbert is one parent, which is why they share some of its cream and body weight, while Pink Guava pushes them toward tropical fruit and gas.

Rainbow Sherbet Terpene Profile

Leafly's lab-sourced data lists caryophyllene as the most abundant terpene for both the classic Rainbow Sherbet and RS11, followed by limonene and humulene. Terrapin's RS54 notes add linalool, myrcene and pinene, and a commercial Rainbow Sherbert terpene blend from Abstrax builds its version on caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene. A 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, a light gas edge

Limonene — citrus, the sherbet brightness

Humulene — hoppy, woody

Linalool — floral, creamy-vanilla softness

Typical relative profile — caryophyllene-led per Leafly for both the classic and RS11. Individual batches vary; check the COA terpene panel.

  • Caryophyllene: Pepper and a faint fuel note under the fruit — the backbone of the profile and the only common terpene known to act on CB2 receptors.
  • Limonene: The citrus lift that makes it smell like sherbet and part of why the high reads upbeat.
  • Humulene: Woody and hoppy; it keeps the sweetness from going cloying.
  • Linalool: Floral and soft — listed on RS54 cuts and likely behind the creamy, vanilla-like finish people describe.

The "rainbow" flavor isn't one terpene — it's the mix: citrus from limonene, stone fruit and candy from the Pink Guava or Blackberry side, and cream underneath.

Appearance

AllBud describes classic Rainbow Sherbet as "lemon-shaped forest green nugs with thin orange hairs" under a thick coat of amber-tinged trichomes. RS54 cuts, per Terrapin, run deeper green and purple with vibrant orange hairs and heavy frost. Expect dense, resin-heavy buds either way — it's a dessert strain, and bag appeal is half the point.

Aroma and Flavor

Open the jar and it's sweet fruit first — citrus, berry and stone fruit — with a creamy, sugary base, exactly the rainbow sherbet scoop the name promises. AllBud's reviewers add a fresh mint accent on the classic and a sugary exhale. Leafly's users tag the classic with apricot, tree fruit and a "chemical" note, and RS11 with apricot, peach and citrus; one RS11 reviewer Leafly quoted called its "candy guava sour citrus" profile one of the best flavors they'd had in 30 years. RS54 brings more gas. Abstrax sums up the target flavor as "a creamy combo of lime, orange, vanilla, and raspberry."

Recreational Effects

Rainbow Sherbet is a mood strain. Leafly's reviewers describe a chilled-out but focused high with giggles up front and relaxation on the tail end. The most-reported effects across the classic and RS11 pages:

  • Giggly: top-listed on both — this is a laughing, social strain.
  • Focused: RS11's leading effect; clear enough to stay on task early on.
  • Relaxed: a calm body that builds as the high goes on.
  • Tingly and aroused: listed on the classic's Leafly page.
  • Creative, euphoric, talkative: the RS54 profile — its "party weed" reputation.

How the high unfolds

  • First few minutes: a quick mood lift and a lighter head.
  • 20–60 minutes: the peak — giggly, chatty and focused, with the body starting to loosen.
  • 1–3 hours: a slow settle into calm. At heavy doses Leafly reviewers report a much stronger, "heavy-hitting" euphoria and some couch time.

How Strong Is Rainbow Sherbet?

Rainbow Sherbet is a mid-to-high potency hybrid, and which one you get changes the number:

  • Leafly (classic): 18% THC, with product listings on the page ranging from about 16% to 25%.
  • AllBud (classic): 20–22%.
  • Hypnoseeds (seed listing): 22%.
  • Leafly (RS11): 24% THC and about 1% CBG.

Leafly rates the classic "higher THC than average," and calls RS54 "super-strong." Modern RS cuts from top growers routinely land in the mid-20s. The bigger factor is dose: at moderate amounts it's giggly and functional; at large amounts it gets heavy fast.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Rainbow Sherbet batch against the 18–25% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Rainbow Sherbet vs Similar Strains

  • vs Sunset Sherbet: the GSC × Pink Panties original — creamier, doughier and more sedating. RS11/RS54 are its children; classic Rainbow Sherbet isn't related.
  • vs Rainbow Runtz and Runtz: the candy-sweet, giggly Runtz family (Runtz itself is Zkittlez × Gelato). Runtz is more uniformly candy; Rainbow Sherbet adds citrus and cream.
  • vs Cosmic Runtz: a Runtz-family selection with dense, frosty, candy-sweet buds, a euphoric lift and a relaxed, indica-leaning finish. Different genetics, very similar experience — it's the closest match on our shelf.
  • vs Gelato: Sunset Sherbet's most famous child — sweeter-creamy and more balanced; a good next step if you like RS11.
  • vs Guava: a tropical-fruit flavor family that echoes the Pink Guava side of RS11, without the sherbet cream.

Who Rainbow Sherbet Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: flavor chasers, social smokers, and anyone who wants an upbeat, giggly afternoon or evening strain that still lets them function.

Poor fit: people who need a sure-fire sleep strain, or those prone to THC anxiety — "anxious" is on Leafly's negatives list. For a creamier, sweeter dessert profile on our shelf, Lemon Cherry Gelato is the step toward the Sunset Sherbet side of the family.

How to Use Rainbow Sherbet THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the citrus and fruit. Around 350–375°F keeps the sherbet top notes; 390–410°F brings out more body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15 minutes. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the giggly peak without tipping into the heavy end. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Anxiety: about 21% of reviewers on the classic and 26% on RS11 — though "anxious" also shows up as a negative, so keep doses low.
  • Stress: 16% (classic) and 19% (RS11).
  • Low mood: 15% (classic) and 17% (RS11), in line with its giggly reputation.
  • Aches and appetite: Leafly notes consumers choose it for pain; AllBud's reviewers mention nausea and appetite.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth — the most common complaint on both Leafly pages.
  • Dizziness — listed for the classic.
  • Anxiety, paranoia or headache — listed for RS11 and RS54, especially when people overdo it.
  • Unwanted drowsiness — some AllBud reviewers report it.

Is Rainbow Sherbet good for sleep? Not at small doses — it's more giggly than sedating — but the calm builds at higher doses. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

How to Judge a Good Bag of Rainbow Sherbet

  • Ask which Rainbow Sherbet. Classic, RS11 or RS54? A seller who knows the cut usually knows the flower.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Smell for fruit and cream. Real Rainbow Sherbet is loud, sweet and citrusy; flat or hay-like means old or rushed.
  • Frost and density, with trichomes deep in the bud, and orange hairs that aren't brown and brittle.
  • Purple is a bonus, not proof. Color comes from the cut and cool nights, not quality.

Growing Rainbow Sherbet

Seed vendors rate Rainbow Sherbet easy to moderate and best suited to a controlled indoor room. RS11 and RS54 circulate mainly as clones, so many home growers are working from seed versions labeled "Rainbow Sherbet" — check which line a seed vendor means.

  • Flowering: about 8–9 weeks (Hypnoseeds).
  • Yield: up to roughly 1.8–2.2 oz per square foot indoors with good training (Hypnoseeds).
  • Height: compact — around 30–40 inches indoors.
  • Training: responds well to topping and screen-of-green (SCROG) setups.
  • Color and flavor: slightly cooler nights in late flower (around 60°F) help bring out purple and aroma; easing off nitrogen late keeps the fruit from going muted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Rainbow Sherbet indica or sativa?

Rainbow Sherbet is a hybrid. Leafly calls the classic version evenly balanced and AllBud lists it 50/50; some RS54 cuts are sold as indica-dominant. Its effects — giggly and focused, then relaxed — sit right in the middle.

What is Rainbow Sherbet a cross of?

It depends on which one. Classic Rainbow Sherbet is Champagne × Blackberry, per Leafly and AllBud. RS11 and RS54 (Rainbow Sherbert #11 and #54) are Pink Guava × Sunset Sherbert, bred by Deo Farms.

Is RS11 the same as Rainbow Sherbet?

RS11 stands for Rainbow Sherbert #11, but it isn't the classic Champagne × Blackberry strain. It's a Deo Farms selection from Pink Guava × Sunset Sherbert, popularized by Wizard Trees.

Is Rainbow Sherbet the same as Sunset Sherbet?

No. Sunset Sherbet is Girl Scout Cookies × Pink Panties. Classic Rainbow Sherbet isn't related to it; RS11 and RS54 have Sunset Sherbert as one parent.

How strong is Rainbow Sherbet?

Leafly lists 18% THC for the classic and 24% for RS11; AllBud lists 20–22%. Modern RS cuts often test in the mid-20s. Start small — big doses turn heavy.

What does Rainbow Sherbet taste like?

Sweet fruit and citrus over a creamy, sugary base — apricot, peach, berry and lime-orange notes, sometimes with a mint accent or a light gas finish on RS54.

What are the effects of Rainbow Sherbet?

Consumers report a giggly, focused, euphoric lift that settles into a relaxed body. It's social and functional at low doses and much heavier at high doses.

Is Rainbow Sherbet good for anxiety?

Mixed. About 21–26% of Leafly reviewers say it helps, but 'anxious' is also listed as a negative. Low doses are the safer approach.

Is Rainbow Sherbet good for sleep?

Not usually at small doses — it's more giggly than sedating. The relaxation builds as the high goes on, so some people use larger doses in the evening.

Is Rainbow Sherbet good for beginners?

It's friendlier than many dessert strains at low doses, but it's still above-average potency. Take one small puff and wait 15 minutes.

How long does Rainbow Sherbet take to flower?

About 8–9 weeks indoors, according to seed vendors. It stays fairly compact and responds well to topping and SCROG.

Will Rainbow Sherbet THCA flower show up on a drug test?

Yes. When THCA is heated it becomes THC, and standard drug tests look for THC metabolites, not the label on the bag.

Where can I buy Rainbow Sherbet THCA flower online?

Rainbow Sherbet isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Cosmic Runtz THCA Flower — a Runtz-family selection with the same candy-sweet, frosty profile and a relaxed finish, ½oz for $69, third-party lab tested, with free shipping over $75.
