The Slurricane strain is In House Genetics' cross of Do-Si-Dos and Purple Punch, and it is one of the few modern indicas whose name is an accurate warning. First: You May Be Looking for the Drink

There is a canned hurricane cocktail marketed by E-40 that people search for using the same sound. The drink is “Sluricane” with one R. The cannabis strain is “Slurricane” with two. Google conflates them constantly because the words are phonetically identical and the liquor brand has strong retail SEO.

If you came here for the premixed cocktail, that is a different product entirely. Everything below is about the In House Genetics cultivar. Common misspellings of the strain include Slurricaine, Slurrycane and Slur Cane; the name itself is a portmanteau of “slurred” and “hurricane,” which is a potency claim built into the branding.

Slurricane Strain Genetics & Lineage

This is one of the rare modern strains where the lineage is genuinely settled. Not one source disputes it.

• Ancestry: Do-Si-Dos crossed with Purple Punch. Unanimous across every source checked.
• Grandparents: Purple Punch is itself Granddaddy Purple x Larry OG, which is where the grape and the sedation come from.

One correction worth making

At least one large strain database credits Anesia Seeds as the breeder. That is wrong. Anesia sells a Slurricane, as do Blimburn and MSNL, but those are third-party seed-bank versions rather than the original line. The strain is In House Genetics' work. Getting this right matters when you are deciding whose seeds to buy.

When did Slurricane come out?

Honest answer: no breeder-confirmed release date has ever been published. We checked SeedFinder, Weedmaps, Leafly, Seeds Here Now, CannaConnection and every grow guide ranking for the term. Not one gives a year. What can be said is that In House Genetics released it in the late 2010s and it reached wide public awareness around 2018 to 2019, as Purple Punch and Do-Si-Dos crosses swept the market. Anyone quoting you a specific date is guessing.

Slurricane Terpene Profile

The top three are caryophyllene, limonene and myrcene — in an order that changes with every source, which is a fair indication that it changes with the phenotype too.

Leafly gives caryophyllene, limonene, myrcene. CannaConnection inverts it to myrcene first. Hytiva, the only source publishing a lab report, measured limonene at 0.64 mg/g and beta-caryophyllene at 0.33 mg/g. Various sources add nerolidol, pinene, linalool, borneol or geraniol, each on a single source only.

The caryophyllene is the one with real mechanism behind it — it is the only known terpene that binds a cannabinoid receptor directly, established as a selective CB2 agonist by Gertsch and colleagues in PNAS. The limonene is worth flagging for a different reason: a 2024 Johns Hopkins trial found vaporised D-limonene selectively blunted THC's acute anxiety effects in healthy adults. That cuts against the assumption that a heavy, high-THC indica is automatically a bad idea for anxiety-prone users — though the sedation is a separate question.

How Strong Is Slurricane?

The published range runs 20% to 30%, and the top end does not hold up.

Note that Hytiva's own FAQ says 24–28% while its lab report on the same page says 20.1%. The defensible read: 20–28% is the range, real tested flower lands around 20–22%, and good selections reach the mid-to-high twenties. The 30% figure is marketing.

Worth understanding why that matters. Slurricane's reputation for hitting hard does not come from a record THC number — it comes from the terpene load and the way the body effect stacks. This is a strain that feels stronger than its lab result, which is a more interesting thing than being strong on paper.

Appearance

Oversized, grape-shaped, extremely dense buds in dark olive green with rich violet and plum undertones, thin amber and rust-orange pistils, and a resin coat heavy enough that the trichomes themselves take on a purple tint. The density is genuinely notable even by indica standards — these are boulder nugs.

That resin load is why Slurricane has a following among hash and rosin makers. It is also why it rots if you grow it wet.

Aroma and Flavor

Sweet berry and grape on a creamy base, with earthy and spicy notes underneath and a real gas edge on the back. Hytiva describes it as berry tea, herbal and spicy with blueberry notes. Weedmaps' user voting breaks down as earthy 40%, citrus 30% and diesel 30% — that diesel third is under-explored everywhere and it is the part that makes this strain make sense on a site called Diesel Hemp.

In practice: sweet dark berry first, tropical and creamy in the middle, then a spicy, gassy, earthy finish. It is a dessert strain with a fuel note hiding under it, not a pure candy profile.

Recreational Effects

Fast, physical and heavy. Every serious source lands in the same place, and several of them get blunt about it.

• Near-immediate body onset: one review puts it at the second hit. This is not a creeper.
• Euphoric opening: a genuine mood lift before the weight arrives.
• Tingly: commonly described as a tingle spreading down the back of the neck.
• Deep physical relaxation: the dominant effect by a wide margin.
• Hunger: pronounced and consistently reported.
• Couch-lock, then sleep: the expected destination. Hytiva lists the recommended activities as “doing nothing, sleeping.”

Nobody publishes a duration figure for Slurricane, which is a gap across the whole SERP. What is consistently reported is that the onset is fast and the arc is one-directional — it goes toward sedation and does not come back. Plan accordingly.

Side effects are dry mouth, dry eyes and dizziness. The realistic risk with this one is not paranoia, it is overcommitting to an evening you then sleep through.

• Slurricane #44 — real, a second elite selection.
• Slurricane IX — real, and more interesting than it sounds: it is #44 crossed back with #7, two elite cuts recombined rather than a random pheno. Heavily frosted, with subtle gas and grape, and medium-to-tall vertical growth unlike the parent.
• Slurty3 — real, but not a Slurricane phenotype and not an In House Genetics strain. It is a Purple City Genetics cross of Slurricane x Gelato 33. Several dispensary blogs call it a pheno; they are wrong.
• Blueberry Pancakes, Big Drip, Bananacane, Slurmint IX — descendants, not phenos. SeedFinder catalogues 140 direct descendants in total, which is a fair measure of how much this plant got used as breeding stock.

One genuinely useful buyer-beware point that no top-ranking page makes: In House Genetics released Slurricane as regular seeds only, never feminized. Any feminized “Slurricane” on the market is either an S1 from a selected cut or a third-party recreation under the same name. That is worth knowing before you spend money on a pack.

Is Slurricane Worth It? An Honest Verdict

Yes, for a specific person, and it is genuinely wrong for several others. Being clear about that is more useful than another round of adjectives.

Right for you if: you want an end-of-day shutdown strain and you mean it; you are an experienced consumer with real tolerance; you want flavour and bag appeal alongside the sedation; you have appetite issues; or you press hash or rosin, where the resin density is a legitimate standout.

Wrong for you if: you are new to cannabis or low tolerance — the onset is fast and the ceiling is high; you need to function afterwards, at all; you want anything resembling daytime use; or you grow without humidity control, because the bud density is a real mould liability rather than a theoretical one.

On potency specifically: the 30% claims are marketing. Real tested flower lands around 20–22%, with good selections in the mid-to-high twenties. What makes Slurricane feel heavier than that number is the terpene load and how fast the body effect stacks — which is a better reason to buy it than a percentage anyway.

The verdict: one of the most reliable sedative indicas of the last decade, with genuinely good flavour and exceptional resin. Buy it for the end of the day and buy it knowing the lab number will read lower than the experience. Do not buy it expecting 30%, and do not buy it as your introduction to strong flower.

Growing Slurricane

Rated anywhere from easy to moderate depending who you ask, but the sources that skip the rating all warn about the same thing, which tells you where the real difficulty lives.

Flowering runs 8 to 10 weeks, roughly 56 to 75 days. The plant stays short and bushy — around 3 to 4 feet indoors and near 5 feet outdoors. Indoor yields are reported around 450–500 g/m²; outdoor figures vary wildly between sources, from 200–350 g up to 550–650 g per plant, largely because different seed banks are selling different versions. Target 68–80°F and 50–60% relative humidity.

The actual challenge is mould. Buds this dense and this resinous hold moisture, and without serious airflow you will lose colas from the inside out. Everything else about this plant is forgiving; that part is not.

• Know that feminized packs are S1s or recreations. IHG released it as regular seed only.
