Snowman Strain

Snowman Strain: The GSC Phenotype Buried in Frost

The Snowman strain is a selected phenotype of GSC (Girl Scout Cookies), named for one obvious thing: its buds look like they've been rolled in snow. Under that trichome coat you get a gassy-kush and diesel nose with sweet vanilla underneath, about 23% THC per Leafly, and a quick, euphoric, focused high that settles into a relaxed, hungry body. It belongs in the cookies-and-gas corner of our THCA flower collection.

Snowman also matters more than its modest fame suggests. It's the parent behind two of the Cookies brand's biggest modern hits, Cereal Milk and Gary Payton. And it comes with a genuine open question: two different breeders are credited with it. Below: the lineage and the breeder dispute, what it smells and tastes like, how the high unfolds, how strong it really is, how to use it, how to grow it, and how it compares to its relatives.

A 360° look at Snowman's frosty buds.

Quick Facts

In short: A sativa-leaning GSC phenotype named for its snow-white trichome coat — gassy kush and diesel on the nose, sweet vanilla on the finish, and a fast, euphoric, focused high that turns relaxed and hungry.

Snowman Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Sativa-leaning hybrid. AllBud, Hail Mary Jane and Mankind list it around 60% sativa / 40% indica; Cannabis Training University and Leafwell list 70/30. Leafly simply calls it a hybrid.
  • Ancestry: a phenotype of GSC — not a cross, but one standout plant selected from Cookies genetics. GSC itself traces back to OG Kush and Durban Poison.
  • Breeder: disputed — see below.
  • THC: Leafly lists 23%; AllBud 23%; Cannabis Training University 18–23%; Mankind and Leafwell 23–27%.
  • CBD: negligible. Leafly lists 0% CBD; Mankind and Leafwell report around 1% CBG.
  • Aliases: Snowman OG, Berner's Snowman, Snow Man.

Berner or Emerald Family Farms? The two-Snowman problem

Every serious source agrees Snowman is a GSC phenotype. Where they split is who found it. Cannabis Training University credits Berner of the Cookies Fam, and a 2020 review on The Highest Critic lists the original breeder as Cookies Fam Genetics. Hail Mary Jane, NY So High and Leafwell instead describe two versions — Berner's and one from Emerald Family Farms — and say it's unclear which came first. Mankind notes the Emerald Family Farm version came from a now-defunct operation.

AllBud keeps them apart: "Snowman" (60/40, about 23% THC, spicy diesel and vanilla) and a separate "Berner's Snowman" entry (listed 70/30, about 20% THC, sweet, kushy, nutty and vanilla-spiced). That split likely explains why sources quote different ratios. We haven't found a first-hand statement from either breeder settling it, so we won't pretend to.

Why it's called Snowman

It's the frost. The name is a description of the trichome coverage — Hail Mary Jane and Cannabis Training University both point to how white the buds look.

Snowman's offspring

Snowman's biggest legacy is as a parent. Per Leafly's lineage data:

  • Cereal Milk: Snowman × Y Life (itself Cookies × Cherry Pie), from Cookies. Leafly describes Snowman there as "a sativa-dominant Cookies pheno."
  • Gary Payton: Snowman × The Y — a collaboration between Cookies and Powerzzzup Genetics.
  • Yellow Snow: Snowman S1 × Lemonheads, from Archive Seed Bank.

Hail Mary Jane also lists Snow Cone (Snowman × 707 Chem) and Olaf (Snowman × CaliSunset) among its crosses. If you've enjoyed Cereal Milk or Gary Payton, you've already tasted part of Snowman.

Snowman Terpene Profile

Leafly lists caryophyllene as Snowman's dominant terpene, followed by myrcene and humulene — the same three Mankind reports for its cut. Other sources put limonene and linalool higher, which fits a strain sold under two breeder names. Caryophyllene is worth knowing about: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the gassy kush edge

Myrcene — earthy, musky, relaxed body

Humulene — woody, hoppy, dry finish

Limonene — citrus brightness, mood lift

Typical relative profile for Snowman — caryophyllene-led per Leafly. Some cuts read more limonene- and linalool-forward.

  • Caryophyllene: Peppery and spicy, it carries the gassy-kush side of the nose and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and musky — the relaxed body floor that shows up as the high settles, and part of why big doses get sleepy.
  • Humulene: Woody and hops-like; it's behind the "woody" note in Leafly's flavor tags.
  • Limonene: The citrus lift some reviewers taste — lime, lemon or apricot — and a contributor to the upbeat onset.

The vanilla isn't a single terpene. It's the Cookies-family sweetness inherited from GSC, and it's the note that separates Snowman from a plain gassy OG.

Appearance

Snowman earns its name on sight. Leafly's growers describe lime-green buds loaded with trichomes; Cannabis Training University and AllBud's Berner's Snowman entry describe larger, darker forest-green nugs. Either way you get spade-shaped, sometimes lumpy buds threaded with thin orange-to-copper pistils, and a trichome coat thick enough to look white from across the room. Some cuts show faint purple flecks. The resin is sticky and sweet-smelling, which is why it grinds tacky.

Aroma and Flavor

Open the jar and you get gassy kush first — Leafly's summary is a "gassy kush aroma" with "sweet vanilla undertones." Behind the gas sit earthy diesel, spice and an herbal edge that Hail Mary Jane says turns sour toward the finish. Snowman tastes sweeter than it smells: AllBud describes spicy diesel on the inhale with sweet vanilla that lingers, NY So High lists apple, citrus, apricot, nutmeg and vanilla, and Leafly's users tag it diesel, flowery and woody. The Highest Critic called the smoke a "creamy cookie" flavor. One AllBud reviewer called it a touch harsh — a good cure fixes most of that.

Recreational Effects

Snowman opens fast and bright, then rounds off. Reviewers on Leafly most often report feeling hungry, relaxed and focused; AllBud adds creative, euphoric and uplifted. Commonly reported effects:

  • Euphoric and uplifted: a quick mood lift that isn't jittery — the indica side keeps it grounded.
  • Focused and creative: good for projects, writing and music in the first hour; it can turn introspective.
  • Relaxed: a body calm that grows as the head high fades, without heavy sedation at modest doses.
  • Hungry: one of Leafly's top-reported effects — plan snacks.
  • Talkative and happy: Hail Mary Jane frames it as a walk-and-people-watching strain rather than a gym strain.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First few minutes: a clear head change and a lift in mood.
  • 15–45 minutes: the peak — euphoric, focused and creative, with the body loosening.
  • 1–3 hours: a slow settle into relaxed and hungry. At high doses several reviewers report it turning sleepy.

The Highest Critic reviewer noted the effects "kept getting stronger every time I took a hit" — so pace yourself and let each hit land before the next.

How Strong Is Snowman?

Snowman is a strong strain but not a record-chaser. The published numbers:

  • Leafly: 23% THC, 0% CBD — "higher THC than average."
  • AllBud: 23% for Snowman; about 20% for its separate Berner's Snowman entry.
  • Cannabis Training University: 18–23%, with stronger batches possible.
  • NY So High: 21–23%.
  • Mankind and Leafwell: 23–27%, with about 1% CBG.

So most real-world Snowman lands in the low-to-mid 20s. That's plenty for most smokers — and AllBud user reviews include people who greened out on a single bowl — but it isn't in the 30%+ conversation. As always, the grower and the batch matter more than the name.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Snowman batch against the 18–27% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Snowman vs Similar Strains

  • vs GSC (Girl Scout Cookies): the parent line. Snowman is a GSC phenotype selected for frost and a sativa lean, so it reads brighter and gassier, with the same sweet cookie finish.
  • vs Cereal Milk and Gary Payton: its children. Cereal Milk adds Y Life's creamy, fruity sweetness; Gary Payton adds The Y's gas and is the more potent, heavier of the two.
  • vs Snow Caps: not related. Snowcap is a Snow White/Humboldt Snow × Haze sativa, and "snow caps" is also a product — flower coated in THCA isolate. Different plant, different high.
  • vs Snowball: another frost-named strain, but a separate lineage — the shared name is about looks, not genetics.
  • vs Pink Snowman and Abominable Snowman: different strains despite the name. NY So High lists Pink Snowman as an indica-dominant Compound Genetics hybrid and Abominable Snowman as a 70% indica cross of SnowCap Delta, Pure Kush and Uzbekistani — both heavier than Snowman.
  • vs Permanent Marker: our closest in-stock match. Its Biscotti parent comes from the same Gelato/Cookies family tree, and like Snowman it's caryophyllene-led gas with a sweet finish — but it's indica-leaning and heavier, more of an evening strain.

Who Snowman Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: Cookies-family fans; daytime or early-evening smokers who want a focused, creative lift with a relaxed body; anyone curious about the parent of Cereal Milk and Gary Payton.

Poor fit: brand-new consumers, people sensitive to a racing heart, or anyone after a knock-out sleep strain — Snowman only gets sleepy at higher doses. For a brighter, citrus-forward daytime option on our shelf, try Dayglow Mousse; for heavier gas, Mule Fuel.

How to Use Snowman THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the vanilla under the gas. Around 350–380°F keeps the sweet, citrusy top notes; 390–410°F brings out the pepper and kush.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–30 minutes — Snowman builds as you go. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the focused peak without tipping into couch-lock. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Anxiety: the top use on Leafly (about 21% of reporting reviewers) — but dose matters, since high doses can raise heart rate.
  • Pain: about 19% of Leafly reviewers; AllBud reviewers mention arthritis and neuropathy.
  • Stress: about 12% on Leafly, and the most-cited reason across other review sites.
  • Appetite and low mood: "hungry" is a top effect, and AllBud lists depression and appetite loss among reported uses.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — Leafly's top negatives.
  • Dizziness or a rapid heartbeat — reported by NY So High and Leafwell, mostly at higher doses.
  • Sleepiness — several reviewers say big doses turn it sedating.
  • A long high — NY So High notes it lasts hours, so don't plan to drive.

Is Snowman good for sleep? Only at higher doses or late in the evening; at a normal dose it's more focused than sedating. Talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Snowman Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • The frost should be obvious. A Snowman without a heavy trichome coat isn't living up to its name.
  • Gas and vanilla. A real cut has the kushy fuel and the sweet cookie finish; pure earth with no sweetness suggests a mislabel — Cannabis Training University warns mislabeled GSC phenos are common.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Dense, sticky buds that break apart tacky rather than crumble.
  • A proper cure — hay or grass smell means it was rushed, and harshness is a cure problem more often than a strain problem.

Growing Snowman

Most published Snowman grow data borrows from GSC — Cannabis Training University and NY So High both say so openly — but growers describe it as manageable.

  • Flowering: about 8–10 weeks indoors (sources range 7–10; Cannabis Training University uses GSC's 9–10).
  • Yield: roughly 1–2 oz per square foot indoors and up to about 18 oz per plant outdoors (NY So High, Mankind, Leafwell).
  • Height: not well documented; the sativa lean suggests more stretch than GSC, so top early.
  • Climate: likes warm conditions with steady temperature and humidity; outdoor harvest around late October.
  • Watch for mold: the dense buds need pruning and good airflow.
  • Seeds and clones: hard to find; Archive's Snowman S1 work (used for Yellow Snow) shows breeders have it, but buy from a reputable source.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Snowman indica or sativa?

Snowman is a sativa-leaning hybrid. Most sources list it around 60% sativa / 40% indica; Cannabis Training University and Leafwell list 70/30. Its effects — euphoric, focused, then relaxed — fit a daytime-to-early-evening hybrid.

What strain is Snowman a cross of?

It isn't a cross — Snowman is a phenotype of GSC (Girl Scout Cookies), a single standout plant selected from Cookies genetics. GSC itself descends from OG Kush and Durban Poison.

Who bred the Snowman strain?

It's disputed. Some sources credit Berner and the Cookies Fam; others describe a second version from Emerald Family Farms and say it's unclear which came first. AllBud lists Snowman and Berner's Snowman as separate entries.

How strong is the Snowman strain?

Leafly lists 23% THC. Other sources range from 18–23% to 23–27%. Most batches land in the low-to-mid 20s — strong, but not a 30%+ record-setter.

What does Snowman taste like?

Gassy kush and diesel up front, then sweet vanilla on the finish. Reviewers also pick up citrus, apple, apricot, nutmeg and a woody, flowery note; it tastes sweeter than it smells.

What are the effects of Snowman?

Leafly reviewers most often report hungry, relaxed and focused; other sources add euphoric, creative and uplifted. It starts heady and bright, then settles into a relaxed body.

Why is it called Snowman?

Because of the frost. Its buds are coated in so many white trichomes they look snow-covered.

Is Snowman the same as Snow Caps?

No. Snowcap is a separate Haze-based sativa, and "snow caps" also refers to flower coated in THCA isolate. Snowman is a GSC phenotype.

What strains come from Snowman?

Cereal Milk (Snowman × Y Life), Gary Payton (Snowman × The Y) and Yellow Snow (Snowman S1 × Lemonheads), per Leafly. Hail Mary Jane also lists Snow Cone and Olaf.

What is Pink Snowman?

A different strain. NY So High describes Pink Snowman as an indica-dominant hybrid from Compound Genetics — heavier than Snowman and not a GSC phenotype.

Is Snowman good for sleep?

Not at a normal dose — it's more focused than sedating. Several reviewers say larger doses or late-evening use turn it sleepy.

How long does Snowman take to flower?

About 8–10 weeks indoors, with outdoor harvests around late October. Its dense buds need good airflow to avoid mold.

Where can I buy Snowman THCA flower online?

Snowman isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Permanent Marker THCA Flower — Cookies-family gas through its Biscotti parent, caryophyllene-led with a sweet finish, from $29, third-party lab tested, with free shipping over $75. It's heavier than Snowman; for a brighter daytime lift, try Dayglow Mousse, also from $29.
