Strawberry Kush Strain: Sweet Berry on a Kush Frame
The Strawberry Kush strain does exactly what the name says: it puts a sweet, musky strawberry nose on top of an earthy kush body. Leafly and AllBud both list it as Strawberry Cough × OG Kush, and its reputation is consistent across sources — a fast, happy head change followed by a relaxed, tingly body and a strong case of the munchies. It belongs in the fruit-and-kush corner of our THCA flower collection.
What isn't consistent is everything else. There's no single original breeder, at least four seed companies sell a "Strawberry Kush" with different parents, and sources can't agree on whether it leans indica or sativa. It's also the original name of a far more famous Colorado strain. Below: the lineage disputes laid out plainly, what the potency numbers mean, the terpenes, how the high unfolds, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

- Type: Hybrid. AllBud lists it as a sativa-dominant 70/30; Leafly calls its effects "mostly calming"; the seed versions on SeedFinder are listed as mostly indica, around 60%.
- Most common ancestry: Strawberry Cough × OG Kush, per Leafly and AllBud. AllBud adds that the ancestry "varies by dispensary."
- THC: Leafly 19%; AllBud 18–23%. Leafly also lists about 1% CBG.
- CBD: Usually negligible. Anesia Seeds claims 3.2% for its version, which would be unusual — treat it as a breeder claim.
- Offspring: Leafly lists Guava Jelly and Strawberry Biscotti.
- Aliases: "Stk" (Leafly). Not the same as Strawberry Kush Breath or Strawberry Alien Kush, which are separate strains.
Four breeders, four different "Strawberry Kush" crosses
Because the name is so obvious — a strawberry strain crossed with a kush — several breeders have released their own version, and they don't share parents:
- Whish Seeds: Strawberry Cough × Bubba Kush, 60% indica, roughly 7–8 weeks of flowering, per SeedFinder. Closest to the common listing, with Bubba Kush standing in for OG.
- Royal Dutch Genetics: OG Kush × a California indica, 60% indica, described as a mellow, balanced high with a "warm physical stone."
- Anesia Seeds: Hindu Kush × an unnamed strawberry strain, mostly indica, with a claimed 23% THC, per SeedFinder.
- Growers Choice: parents not disclosed; marketed as a very fast bloomer popular in Amsterdam.
AllBud also calls Strawberry Kush "clone-only," which doesn't square with four seed versions on the market. The honest read: the clone sold in US dispensaries is usually described as Strawberry Cough × OG Kush, and the seed versions are separate interpretations of the same idea.
Strawberry Kush and Bruce Banner
There's one more twist. Jason Holck of Dark Horse Genetics has said his OG Kush × Strawberry Diesel crosses were first called Strawberry Kush #1, #3 and #5 before he renamed them Bruce Banner. Strawberry Diesel itself descends from Strawberry Cough, so the two strains are cousins — but Leafly and AllBud treat them as separate strains today. If a menu says "Strawberry Kush," it almost certainly means the Strawberry Cough × OG Kush hybrid, not Bruce Banner.
Strawberry Kush Terpene Profile
Leafly lists myrcene as Strawberry Kush's dominant terpene, followed by limonene and caryophyllene. That lineup explains most of the experience: myrcene for the earthy, musky depth and the relaxed body, limonene for the sweet, citrusy lift on the nose, and caryophyllene for the peppery kush finish. Some breeder descriptions add pine and a strong lemon note, which points to pinene and extra limonene in certain cuts.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Myrcene — musky, earthy, relaxed body
Limonene — sweet citrus-berry lift
Caryophyllene — pepper and kush spice
Pinene — fresh pine edge
Typical relative profile for Strawberry Kush — myrcene-led per Leafly. Cough-leaning cuts read brighter and more limonene-forward; OG- and Bubba-leaning cuts read muskier and spicier.
- Myrcene: The musk in "musky strawberry," and the main reason the high drifts toward relaxed as it goes on.
- Limonene: Sweet citrus that brightens the berry note and drives the happy, uplifted start.
- Caryophyllene: Pepper and spice from the kush side — the finish that keeps it from tasting like candy.
- Pinene: A pine edge AllBud and some breeders mention, and part of why the first half of the high stays fairly clear.
As with most "strawberry" strains, there isn't one strawberry terpene. The fruit comes from the Strawberry Cough side's overall chemistry, which is why it's louder in some cuts than others.
Appearance
Strawberry Kush grows medium-dense, spade-shaped buds in bright to forest green, threaded with long orange-to-red pistils and coated in a solid layer of trichomes. One AllBud reviewer sums it up as "brilliant green with large quantities of long red hairs"; the Growers Choice cut is described as heavily resinous with white and orange hairs. Cough-leaning phenotypes tend to be lighter green and a little airier; kush-leaning ones are darker and tighter.
Aroma and Flavor
Open the jar and you get sweet strawberry first, then a musky, earthy kush note behind it — Leafly calls it a "musky strawberry taste that lives up to its name." Leafly's top-listed flavors are strawberry, sweet and flowery. AllBud adds berry and herbal notes on the palate and earthy, herbal, kush aromas, with citrus and pine in its description. Some breeder cuts lean citrus — Anesia describes strawberry and wood with "a strong lemon note." On the exhale, the kush side comes through as earth and light pepper. Several Leafly reviewers note the strawberry holds up well in a vaporizer.
Recreational Effects
Strawberry Kush starts in the head and finishes in the body. Reviewers describe a quick mood lift that settles into a calm, tingly relaxation. On Leafly, with nearly 500 reviews and a 4.2 rating, the top-reported effects are:
- Tingly: a light, buzzy body feel that shows up early.
- Relaxed: the headline effect as the session goes on — Leafly calls it sedating in body and mind.
- Hungry: a reliable case of the munchies.
- Happy and uplifted: AllBud's top effects (euphoria, happy, uplifting), and the most common words in reviews for the first half hour.
That split is why sources disagree on how to use it. AllBud pitches it as a daytime strain that won't make you drowsy; Leafly says it's sedating and best for experienced consumers. In practice, dose decides: a puff or two reads happy and functional, and a full session reads couch.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 5–10 minutes: a fast head change — reviewers mention feeling it within minutes.
- 15–60 minutes: the peak — happy, giggly, tingly, with appetite arriving.
- 1–3 hours: a slow slide into body relaxation; at higher doses, heavy eyelids.
One caution from reviewers: the flavor is so mild and pleasant that it's easy to take more than you meant to.

How Strong Is Strawberry Kush?
Strawberry Kush is above average but not a record-setter. Leafly calls it "potent" and says it's best for people with a high THC tolerance, yet the published numbers sit in the high teens to low 20s:
- Leafly: 19% THC, about 1% CBG.
- AllBud: 18–23% THC.
- Anesia Seeds (breeder claim): 23% THC.
Why does a 19% strain feel strong? Partly the fast onset, and partly the myrcene-heavy terpene profile, which reviewers describe as hitting the body harder than the number suggests. Batch and grower matter more than the name — a well-grown kush-leaning cut will outpace a rushed one every time.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Strawberry Kush batch against the 18–23% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Strawberry Kush vs Similar Strains
- vs Strawberry Cough: the fruity parent. Strawberry Cough is brighter, more energetic and more sativa-like; Strawberry Kush keeps the berry but adds kush weight and appetite.
- vs OG Kush: the kush parent — gassier, piney and heavier. Strawberry Kush is sweeter and gentler on the front end.
- vs Bruce Banner: the strain that used to be called Strawberry Kush. OG Kush × Strawberry Diesel, more diesel on the nose and noticeably more potent — Bruce Banner is the creative, euphoric one; Strawberry Kush is the relaxing one.
- vs Strawberry Diesel: Strawberry Cough crossed with diesel instead of kush — fuel where Strawberry Kush has musk, and a more energetic high.
- vs Strawberry Glue: Strawberry Diesel × Gorilla Glue #4. Same sweet-berry-over-a-heavy-backbone idea, with more gas and a sticky, resinous bud. It's the closest match on our shelf.
- vs Bubba Kush and Hindu Kush: the kush parents in the Whish and Anesia versions. Both are heavier, earthier and more sedating, with no fruit.
Who Strawberry Kush Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: fruit-flavor fans who want something that relaxes rather than races; late-afternoon and evening sessions; anyone who wants their appetite back.
Poor fit: people who need to stay sharp and productive for hours, or anyone who wants a pure, energetic strawberry sativa — that's Strawberry Cough territory. For a lighter strawberry option on our shelf, Strawberry 2.1 starts from $22.
How to Use Strawberry Kush THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to keep the strawberry. Around 350–375°F holds the fruit and limonene lift; 390–410°F brings out the musky kush body and the heavier relaxation.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15 minutes. Leafly flags it as potent, and the mild flavor makes it easy to overdo. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full happy-to-relaxed arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Stress: the most-cited reason on Leafly (39% of reviewers who reported a use).
- Anxiety: about 31% report help — though one AllBud reviewer advises against it for anxiety, so start low.
- Pain and aches: about 27% on Leafly, consistent with the relaxed, tingly body effect.
- Appetite: "hungry" is one of Leafly's top three effects, and AllBud lists loss of appetite among reported uses.
- Sleep: AllBud lists insomnia as a reported use; effectiveness depends heavily on dose.

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes — Leafly's two most-reported negatives.
- Dizziness — third on Leafly's list, usually from taking too much too fast.
- Anxiety at high doses — not one of its common negatives, but some reviewers report a racing head on a big first hit.
- Couch-lock — more likely the further you go into a session.
Is Strawberry Kush good for sleep? At a moderate dose, it's more likely to relax you than knock you out; a larger evening dose is where people report it helping. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
How to Judge a Good Bag of Strawberry Kush
- Ask about the cut. A good seller knows whether it's the Strawberry Cough × OG Kush clone or a seed version (Whish, Royal Dutch, Anesia). Different parents mean a different smoke.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims on this strain with suspicion. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Strawberry you can actually smell. If it smells only earthy, it's either a kush-heavy cut or it's gone stale.
- Long orange-red pistils and real frost, with trichomes inside the bud, not just on top.
- A proper cure — a hay or grass smell means it was rushed, and on a fruit strain the cure is everything.
Growing Strawberry Kush
Strawberry Kush is generally a manageable grow. GrowDiaries growers of the Anesia version rate it easy to normal, and Royal Dutch Genetics says its version branches well enough for sea-of-green setups. Expect differences between cuts, since the parents differ.
- Flowering: about 8–9 weeks per Leafly and AllBud growers; Anesia around 60 days; Whish and Growers Choice around 53 days.
- Yield: Anesia claims about 550 g/m² indoors and around 600 g per plant outdoors; Royal Dutch calls its yield "high," Whish "average."
- Height: medium indoors (Anesia lists 100–150 cm); it can get tall outdoors. Top or train early.
- Environment: Whish says its cut prefers dry, low-humidity conditions and high nutrient levels — keep airflow strong in late flower, since dense kush-leaning colas are prone to mold.
- Outdoors: harvest early to mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere.
- Seeds: feminized versions from Anesia Seeds, Royal Dutch Genetics and Growers Choice; the dispensary cut is usually passed around as a clone.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Strawberry Kush indica or sativa?
Strawberry Kush is a hybrid, and sources disagree on the lean. AllBud lists the common cut as 70% sativa, while the seed versions on SeedFinder are listed as mostly indica (around 60%). Leafly describes its effects as mostly calming, and most people find it turns relaxing as the session goes on.
What is Strawberry Kush a cross of?
Most often Strawberry Cough × OG Kush, per Leafly and AllBud. Seed versions differ: Whish Seeds uses Strawberry Cough × Bubba Kush, Royal Dutch Genetics OG Kush × a California indica, and Anesia Seeds Hindu Kush × a strawberry strain.
How strong is Strawberry Kush?
Leafly lists 19% THC and AllBud 18–23%. It's above average and hits quickly, so Leafly suggests it for consumers with a higher tolerance. Start with one or two small puffs.
What does Strawberry Kush taste like?
Sweet, musky strawberry with flowery notes on the inhale and earthy kush with a little pepper on the exhale. Some cuts add citrus and pine.
What are the effects of Strawberry Kush?
A quick, happy, uplifted head change, then a tingly, relaxed body and a strong appetite. Leafly's top effects are tingly, relaxed and hungry.
Is Strawberry Kush the same as Bruce Banner?

About 31% of Leafly reviewers who reported a use say it helps with anxiety, but individual responses vary and big doses can make some people anxious. Start low.
Is Strawberry Kush good for beginners?
It's approachable on flavor but potent for its THC number. Beginners should take one small puff and wait 15 minutes before taking more.
Who bred Strawberry Kush?
There's no single credited original breeder. Anesia Seeds, Royal Dutch Genetics, Whish Seeds and Growers Choice all sell their own versions, and the US dispensary cut is usually described as Strawberry Cough × OG Kush.
How long does Strawberry Kush take to flower?
About 8–9 weeks for most cuts, with faster seed versions finishing in around 53 days. Outdoors, it's ready in early to mid-October.
