Mango Kush Strain: Ripe Mango Over an Old-School Kush Base
The Mango Kush strain is an indica-leaning hybrid built from two old-guard parents: Mango, an old indica usually credited to the Dutch breeder KC Brains, and Hindu Kush, the landrace from the mountains between Afghanistan and Pakistan. True to the name, it smells and tastes like ripe mango, with banana and sweet tropical notes up top and earthy Kush and pine underneath. The high is happy and giggly first, then relaxed and heavier in the body. It belongs in the fruit-forward, wind-down corner of our THCA flower collection.
It's also a strain with a fuzzy family tree. Leafly and Zamnesia list Mango × Hindu Kush, Nirvana Seeds sells an OG Kush × Mango version, and nobody can name the original breeder. Below: the lineage and where sources disagree, the terpene profile behind the mango smell, how the high unfolds, how strong it really is, the "eat a mango first" myth, how it compares with its relatives, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at Mango Kush's frosty buds.

- Type: Indica-leaning hybrid. Leafly lists it simply as a hybrid; AllBud and Zamnesia put it at 65% indica / 35% sativa; Nirvana Seeds calls it an "indica dominant hybrid." The effects — giggly at first, then a relaxed, body-centred calm — fit that lean.
- Ancestry: Mango × Hindu Kush, per Leafly and Zamnesia. Nirvana Seeds describes its own Mango Kush as OG Kush × Mango. Since OG Kush itself traces back to Kush-region genetics, both versions share the same broad shape: a mango-scented indica crossed onto a Kush.
- The Mango parent: Leafly lists Mango as an indica bred from KC 33 × Afghani, at about 17% THC and myrcene-dominant. SeedFinder credits it — with a "probably" — to the Dutch breeder KC Brains, and traces KC 33 to Thai × Brazilian genetics.
- Breeder: Unknown. Leafly lists no breeder, Weedmaps says the original breeder is unidentified, and SeedFinder files the original cut under "unknown or legendary." Seed versions come from Zamnesia (Mango × Hindu Kush) and Nirvana Seeds (OG Kush × Mango).
- THC: Leafly 21%; Weedmaps 16–20%; Zamnesia 18%; Nirvana 16–19%; AllBud 11–20%. Leafly lists about 1% CBG; CBD is negligible.
- Aliases: Mango OG and Mango Cannabis, per Leafly. Careful: Leafly also lists "Mango OG" as an alias of the Mango parent, so a jar labeled Mango OG could be either.
- Offspring: Leafly lists Gorilla OG and Mango Sherbert among its children.
Mango × Hindu Kush or OG Kush × Mango?
The honest answer is that "Mango Kush" names a flavor family more than one fixed cut. The Mango × Hindu Kush version is the one most databases describe, and it's the account that fits the strain's earthy, hashy, landrace-style base. Nirvana's OG Kush × Mango is a separate seed line with the same idea. Even SeedFinder's own Nirvana page contradicts itself — the breeder text says OG Kush × Mango while the family tree points back to Mango × Hindu Kush. If a seller can tell you which version they grew, that's a good sign.
Mango Kush vs the original Mango strain
They're parent and child, not the same plant. Mango is the KC 33 × Afghani indica Leafly describes as slow-onset, hungry, relaxed and sleepy. Mango Kush adds the Kush side: more earth and pine on the exhale, denser buds, and a slightly brighter, more social start before the body weight arrives.
Mango Kush Terpene Profile
Leafly lists myrcene as Mango Kush's dominant terpene, followed by caryophyllene and humulene. Myrcene is the obvious fit — it's the same terpene found in ripe mango fruit, and it's the musky, earthy note behind most relaxing indicas. Zamnesia's seed page names ocimene for its version, with honey and floral notes, and many cuts carry a touch of pinene on the exhale.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Myrcene — ripe mango, earth, relaxed body
Caryophyllene — pepper and spice, the Kush depth
Humulene — woody, hoppy, earthy
Pinene — pine on the exhale
Typical relative profile for Mango Kush — myrcene-led per Leafly. Zamnesia's seed version lists ocimene, so some cuts read more floral and honeyed.
- Myrcene: The big one. Musky, earthy and fruity — the terpene most associated with mango itself, and the one most linked to Mango Kush's relaxed, heavier finish.
- Caryophyllene: Peppery and spicy; it gives the Kush side its depth and is the only common terpene known to bind directly to CB2 receptors.
- Humulene: Woody and hoppy — part of the earthy, almost hashy base under the fruit.
- Pinene: The fresh pine Leafly and AllBud both describe on the exhale.
The mango character isn't one compound. It's myrcene plus a supporting cast of fruity, floral terpenes like ocimene — which is why some jars smell like fresh-cut mango and others lean banana, pineapple or honey.
Appearance
Mango Kush grows tight, chunky buds — Leafly describes them as "very dense" with orange pistils and thick, shiny trichomes. Expect olive to forest green flowers with bright orange-to-amber hairs and a heavy frost that makes the nugs look sugared. The Kush side shows in the structure: compact, rock-hard and heavy for their size rather than airy and foxtailed. AllBud reviewers mention "nice and big" buds.
Aroma and Flavor
Open the jar and the mango is real — sweet, ripe and tropical, with banana close behind. Break a bud and the earthier Kush side comes up: damp wood, spice and a little hash. Here's how the major databases describe it:
- Leafly: mango, tropical and sweet, with Kush earthiness and pine on the exhale.
- Weedmaps: mango is 56% of reported flavors, tropical 27%, sweet 17%.
- AllBud: earthy, fruity, mango and pungent on the nose with banana notes; fruity, pine, sweet and tropical on the palate.
- Nirvana Seeds: a Kush base with mango, banana and pineapple.
- Zamnesia: sweet, with honey and floral undertones.
The inhale is smooth, sweet and fruity; the exhale turns earthy and piney. Not every batch is candy — one AllBud reviewer described a "rotten wood," damp-pine taste, which usually points to a poor cure rather than the strain itself.
Recreational Effects
Mango Kush is a mood strain first and a body strain second. On Leafly, with more than 1,300 ratings, the most-reported effects are:
- Giggly: the headline effect — light, silly and talkative.
- Happy: an easy mood lift without much racing-mind energy.
- Hungry: a real case of the munchies, inherited from the Mango side.
AllBud describes the high as "centered on the body, with deep relaxation, strong euphoria, and a general sedated feeling," and notes users tend to talk and laugh more than usual. Zamnesia and Nirvana both call their seed versions relaxing rather than overpowering.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 5–10 minutes: a gentle lift in mood and a softening behind the eyes.
- 15–60 minutes: the peak — giggly, chatty and content, with the body loosening up.
- 1–3 hours: the Kush side takes over. Small doses stay relaxed and social; bigger ones drift toward the couch, a snack and sleep.
That arc makes Mango Kush a natural late-afternoon or evening strain — good company for a movie, a meal or a slow night in.

How Strong Is Mango Kush?
Mango Kush is a mid-to-high potency strain, not a record-breaker. The numbers by source:
- Leafly: 21% THC, about 1% CBG — which Leafly calls higher than average.
- Weedmaps: 16–20%.
- Zamnesia (seed line): 18% THC, 0–1% CBD.
- Nirvana Seeds (seed line): 16–19%.
- AllBud: 11–20%, with CBD around 0.3%.
So expect roughly 16–21% from a typical grow, with standout batches higher. That makes it friendlier than today's 30%-plus headline strains, but the myrcene-heavy body effect still sneaks up at bigger doses. Zamnesia's own description sums it up as "a moderate dose of THC."
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Mango Kush batch against the 16–21% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Does Eating a Mango Make You Higher?
It's one of cannabis culture's best-known tips — and Mango Kush gets mentioned with it constantly. The theory is that the myrcene in ripe mango boosts or lengthens a high. The evidence is thin: a widely shared 2014 report republished by FreshPlaza admits it's "not a proven scientific fact," and the lab scientist it quotes says the research is still early. There's no harm in having mango with your Mango Kush. Just don't expect it to change the dose.
Mango Kush vs Similar Strains
- vs Hindu Kush: the landrace parent. Hindu Kush is earthier, woodier and more sedating; Mango Kush adds the fruit and a lighter, giggly start.
- vs OG Kush: the Kush parent in Nirvana's version. OG is gassier, lemon-pine and more heady; Mango Kush is sweeter and more body-forward.
- vs Banana Kush: the closest flavor cousin — another tropical-fruit-over-Kush strain, built on Ghost OG × Skunk Haze. Banana Kush runs a little brighter.
- vs Afghan Kush and Master Kush: the same Kush-region family, without the fruit. Both are heavier and hashier.
- vs Maui Wowie and Papaya: other tropical-fruit strains. Maui Wowie is the energetic sativa take on tropical; Papaya sits closer to Mango Kush's relaxed lane.
- vs Strawberry 2.1: our closest fruit-forward match in stock. It shares the myrcene lead and tropical-fruit sweetness, but it's sativa-leaning — more social, less couch. For a heavier finish, Blueberry Pancakes (indica-dominant, myrcene/caryophyllene/linalool) is the better swap.
Who Mango Kush Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: fans of fruity flavors who want a relaxed, happy evening; social sessions where laughs matter more than focus; anyone looking for appetite; moderate-tolerance smokers who don't need a 30% knockout.
Poor fit: anyone who needs to stay sharp or productive, and daytime users who don't want the munchies. If you want an upbeat fruit strain for the daytime, Strawberry 2.1 is the lighter, sativa-leaning option on our shelf.
How to Use Mango Kush THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the mango. Around 350–370°F keeps the fruit and myrcene sweetness; 390–410°F brings out the earthy Kush body.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15 minutes — the body effect builds slowly. Regular users usually find two or three hits gets the full giggly-to-relaxed arc; more than that tends toward sleep. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Stress: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 34% of reviewers).
- Anxiety: about 26% of Leafly reviewers report help; a calm, giggly high suits many people, but dose still matters.
- Low mood: about 22% on Leafly, in line with the happy headline effect.
- Appetite and sleep: AllBud users mention low appetite, nausea and insomnia — consistent with the "hungry" and relaxed effects.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.
Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes — the top negatives on Leafly; AllBud adds bloodshot eyes.
- Dizziness — Leafly's third-most-reported negative, usually at higher doses.
- Harsh smoke or a next-day headache — mentioned by a few AllBud reviewers, more often a cure or dose issue than the strain.
- Couchlock and munchies — not a problem at night, but plan around them during the day.
Is Mango Kush good for sleep? At a bigger dose, often yes — the myrcene-heavy Kush finish is relaxing and sedating for many people. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Mango Kush Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Smell for real mango. A good jar has ripe-fruit sweetness up front and earthy Kush behind it. Pure earth or hay with no fruit means a weak cut or a rushed cure.
- Ask which version. Mango × Hindu Kush and OG Kush × Mango are both sold as Mango Kush; a good seller knows which one they have.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Mango Kush typically lands around 16–21%, so treat 30%-plus claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Dense, frosty buds with orange pistils and trichomes inside the bud, not just on top.
- A proper cure — damp-wood or musty notes are a red flag, not a flavor.
Growing Mango Kush
Mango Kush is a compact, fast, beginner-friendly indica-leaning plant. Zamnesia rates it moderate difficulty; Nirvana calls it easy and suited to small indoor spaces.
- Flowering: 8–9 weeks for Zamnesia's version; 9–11 weeks for Nirvana's and per Leafly.
- Yield: up to 450 g/m² indoors and 550 g per plant outdoors (Zamnesia); 450–500 g/m² in a sea-of-green setup (Nirvana).
- Height: about 120 cm indoors and 150 cm outdoors per Zamnesia; Leafly and Nirvana say 4–5 feet. Topping or LST keeps it shorter.
- Climate: Leafly recommends 70–80°F (21–27°C) and about 50% humidity, with strong airflow and lower branches cleared — dense buds invite mold.
- Outdoors: ready around the end of September in the Northern Hemisphere (Zamnesia).
- Seeds: feminized lines from Zamnesia (plus a Mango Kush Automatic) and Nirvana Seeds.

Moderate to strong. Leafly lists 21% THC, Weedmaps 16–20%, Zamnesia 18% and Nirvana 16–19%. Expect roughly 16–21% from a typical batch.
Does Mango Kush taste like mango?
Yes — it's one of the few strains that really does. Expect ripe mango, banana and sweet tropical notes on the inhale, then earthy Kush and pine on the exhale.
What are the effects of Mango Kush?
Leafly's most-reported effects are giggly, happy and hungry. AllBud describes a body-centred high with deep relaxation and strong euphoria that can turn sedating at higher doses.

Is Mango Kush good for anxiety?
About 26% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, and its high is calm rather than racy. Start low — dizziness is among its reported negatives.

Mango is the parent — a KC 33 × Afghani indica. Mango Kush crosses it with Hindu Kush, adding earth, pine, denser buds and a brighter, more social start.
Is Mango Kush good for beginners?
It's one of the friendlier strains — mid-range potency and a mellow high. Start with one or two small puffs and wait 15 minutes, because the body effect builds.
How long does Mango Kush take to flower?
About 8–9 weeks for Zamnesia's version and 9–11 weeks for Nirvana's. It stays compact, around 120–150 cm, and suits sea-of-green setups.
