Super Glue Strain

Super Glue Strain: The Northern Lights Hybrid That Isn't Gorilla Glue

The Super Glue strain — also sold as Superglue and Tacky Glue — is an indica-leaning hybrid bred by the Dutch seed bank Seedism Seeds from an Afghani landrace and Northern Lights. It smells of pine and sweet caramel with a citrus-diesel edge, starts calm and focused, then sinks into a heavy, relaxed body. The name comes from its resin: the buds are so sticky they practically glue themselves to your fingers. It fits the relaxing, indica-leaning corner of our THCA flower collection.

It's also constantly confused with Gorilla Glue #4. They share a word and a reputation for sticky resin, but nothing else — Super Glue is old-school Afghani and Northern Lights genetics, not Chem Sister, Sour Dubb and Chocolate Diesel. Below: the real lineage (and where the sources disagree), the terpene profile, how the high unfolds, how strong it actually is, how to use it, how to grow it and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at Super Glue's frosty buds.

Super Glue Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Indica-leaning hybrid. AllBud and Leafwell list it about 60% indica / 40% sativa; SeedFinder describes a "mainly Indica growth pattern."
  • Ancestry: Afghani landrace × Northern Lights — the version listed by Leafly, Weedmaps, SeedFinder, AllBud and Leafwell.
  • Breeder: Seedism Seeds, a Dutch seed bank — credited on Leafly and SeedFinder.
  • THC: Leafly lists 21%; SeedFinder 18.5%; AllBud averages 23%; Leafwell gives 18–28%. Individual grower batches have tested above 31%.
  • CBD: Effectively none — Leafly lists 0%, Leafwell 0.03–0.04%. Leafwell lists up to 0.4% CBG.
  • Aliases: Superglue, Tacky Glue, and Superglue OG (Weedmaps and AllBud fold the "OG" name into the same entry).
  • Offspring: Leafly lists Sugar Baby as a Super Glue descendant.

Where the sources disagree

Weedmaps calls Super Glue's origins "rather mysterious," and the lineage isn't fully settled:

  • Afghani × Northern Lights is the consensus across the strain databases, and SeedFinder's family tree for the Seedism release shows exactly that.
  • Northern Lights × an Afghani-dominant Skunk #1 is the version GreenState reports from the breeder's side. Either way, as GreenState puts it, all roads lead back to Northern Lights.
  • Gorilla Glue #4 × Gelato #45 appears on at least one ranking blog. No strain database or breeder supports it — it looks like a mix-up with the many GG4-based "Glue" crosses.

Two more wrinkles: SeedFinder notes the Seedism Superglue was never released as feminized seeds, and Leafwell and Weedmaps describe it as a clone-only cut today. Other seed banks sell their own "Super Glue" lines, so seed-grown plants may not match the original clone.

Super Glue vs Gorilla Glue: not the same strain

Gorilla Glue #4 (GG4) is a Chem's Sister × Sour Dubb × Chocolate Diesel cross from GG Strains, famous for chemical, earthy diesel and a heavy, euphoric high. Super Glue predates the GG craze in spirit — Afghani and Northern Lights are two of the oldest indica building blocks in modern cannabis. The overlap is the name and the resin. If a menu lists "Super Glue" with GG4 parents, it's either mislabeled or a different strain wearing the same name.

Super Glue Terpene Profile

Leafly lists caryophyllene as Super Glue's most abundant terpene, followed by limonene and myrcene; Leafwell adds humulene. Weedmaps reports that a lab-tested batch from Boston's Cannabis Crew led with limonene and caryophyllene. Caryophyllene stands out among terpenes — a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, woody depth

Limonene — citrus and lemon brightness

Myrcene — earthy, herbal, heavy body

Humulene — woody, earthy dryness

Typical relative profile for Super Glue — caryophyllene-led per Leafly. Some batches test limonene-forward and read more lemony.

  • Caryophyllene: The peppery, spicy backbone and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
  • Limonene: The citrus and lemon edge reviewers pick up on the inhale, and part of the calm-but-clear onset.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and herbal — the classic Afghani-and-Northern-Lights terpene behind the heavy body as the session goes on.
  • Humulene: Woody and dry; it rounds out the sandalwood-like earth some reviewers describe.

The caramel note isn't one terpene — it's the overall blend, and it's the detail breeders and reviewers mention most often. Pinene is likely behind the pine, though it isn't in Leafly's top three.

Appearance

Super Glue earns its name before you light it. Weedmaps and Leafwell describe large, dense, spade-shaped buds; AllBud's reviewers describe smaller, pebble-shaped, forest-green nugs — both show up depending on grower and grade. Either way you get bright orange pistils and a coat of sticky trichomes that look glossy and glue-like once dried. One Leafly reviewer says the buds "rival GG4 in terms of density." Expect resin on your fingers and your grinder.

Aroma and Flavor

Crack a jar and the first notes are pine and woody earth, with a sweet caramel note underneath — the pairing the breeder description and Leafly both highlight. Grind it and the citrus comes forward: lemon, a sharp lime edge and, in many batches, diesel. Weedmaps users rate the flavor diesel (38%), chemical (35%) and lemon (26%); Leafly users say woody, pine and pungent.

On the inhale it's diesel and lemon; on the exhale, sweet pine with an occasional creamy caramel finish, according to an Illinois News Joint review of a 31.6% batch. AllBud warns the citrus can come off sharp and a bit harsh — a slow, cool draw helps.

Recreational Effects

Super Glue is a slow builder. The first phase is calm and clear; the body catches up later. On Leafly, with more than 450 reviews averaging 4.6 stars, the most-reported effects are:

  • Relaxed: the headline effect — a steady, full-body unwind.
  • Focused: more functional than its indica genetics suggest; reviewers talk about doing chores, music and work on it.
  • Tingly: a light buzz that starts in the head and spreads through the shoulders and limbs.
  • Euphoric and happy: AllBud's top effects, especially early in the session.
  • Couch-lock at higher doses: AllBud and Leafwell both warn the name fits — it can glue you to your seat.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 10 minutes: a gentle head change at the back of the head — calm, a little spacey, still clear.
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak — relaxed, focused and mildly euphoric, with a tingly body.
  • 1–3 hours: the body gets heavier with each hit. Leafwell puts the full effect at two to three hours; more dose means more sedation and more appetite.

Low doses keep it social and functional. Big doses turn it into a nightcap.

How Strong Is Super Glue? Is It That Strong?

Yes — when it's grown well. Super Glue's reputation comes from contest lab results. According to Inverse's report on the 2017 High Times Cannabis Cup THC results, a medical hybrid called "Super Glue" came in second at 32.14% THC, behind Godfather OG at 34.04%. Two years later, Fiore Cannabis's Super Glue took first place in the Hybrid Flower category at the 2019 High Times Cannabis Cup in Nevada, per a release from its parent company, Citation Growth.

Everyday numbers are lower and vary by source:

  • Leafly: 21% — "higher THC than average."
  • SeedFinder (Seedism listing): 18.5%.
  • AllBud: 23% average.
  • Leafwell: 18–28%.
  • Lab-tested retail batches: over 25% (Cannabis Crew via MCR Labs, per Weedmaps) and 31.6% total THC (Verano, per Illinois News Joint).

So it ranges from mid-strength to genuinely potent depending on the cut and the grower. The 30%+ results are outliers, not the norm.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Super Glue batch against the 18–32% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Super Glue vs Similar Strains

  • vs Northern Lights: the parent. Northern Lights is sweeter, earthier and more purely sedating; Super Glue adds citrus, a diesel edge and a more functional first hour.
  • vs Gorilla Glue #4: the strain it's always confused with. GG4 is louder chemical-diesel and hits harder and faster; Super Glue is pine-caramel and builds slowly. Different genetics entirely.
  • vs Afghan Kush: the Afghani side in pure form — hashier, earthier and heavier. Super Glue is brighter on the nose.
  • vs White Widow and Skunk #1: fellow Dutch-era classics. Both lean more energetic; Super Glue sits lower and heavier.
  • vs Mule Fuel: our closest in-stock match. Also indica-leaning with gassy-earthy diesel, pepper, citrus and pine, but the GMO side makes it funkier and heavier than Super Glue's sweet pine-caramel.

Who Super Glue Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: evening smokers who want to relax without blacking out the first hour; fans of classic Afghani and Northern Lights genetics; anyone who likes pine, citrus and a hint of diesel.

Poor fit: anyone who needs to stay sharp for hours, or someone after a bright, racy daytime sativa. Beginners should go slow — strong batches are strong. For a heavier gas profile, Permanent Marker is another indica-leaning option on our shelf.

How to Use Super Glue THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: a good way to taste the pine and caramel without the harsh citrus bite. Around 350–375°F keeps the flavor bright and the head clear; 390–410°F brings out the heavy body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–20 minutes — it builds slowly, so it's easy to overdo. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full relaxed arc; more than that tips it toward couch-lock and sleep. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 31% of reviewers).
  • Anxiety: about 28% report help — though "anxious" also appears among its negatives, so dose matters.
  • Low mood: about 23% of Leafly reviewers.
  • Aches and tension: AllBud's reviewers and several Leafly reviews mention pain relief from the heavy body effect.
  • Appetite and sleep: commonly reported at higher doses, as the body high deepens.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — Leafly's top negatives.
  • Anxiety or paranoia — reported mostly at high doses or low tolerance.
  • Couch-lock and drowsiness — the name isn't only about resin.
  • Dizziness and harsh smoke — Leafwell lists both; AllBud calls the citrus flavor sharp.

Is Super Glue good for sleep? At higher doses, often yes — it gets heavy late in the session. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Super Glue Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask about the lineage. A good seller should say Afghani × Northern Lights. If they say GG4 parents, it's a different strain.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Pine and caramel, then citrus. A real Super Glue has that sweet-woody base. Flat hay or grass means it was rushed.
  • Stickiness. It should be resinous enough to cling to your fingers, with trichomes inside the bud, not just on top.
  • Dense, not wet. Dense buds that feel damp are a mold risk — this strain's tight structure makes that more likely.

Growing Super Glue

Super Glue is a moderate-difficulty, high-yielding plant built for indoor rooms. SeedFinder rates the yield "very high" and quotes the breeder pitching it to growers who want both yield and quality.

  • Flowering: 8–9 weeks per Weedmaps and Leafwell; SeedFinder lists about 67 days in one place and 9–10 weeks in another.
  • Yield: 400–500 g/m² indoors and 500–600 g/m² outdoors, per Leafwell.
  • Height: bushy and wide rather than tall — about 1.2–1.5 m indoors and up to 2 m outdoors.
  • Training: ScrOG (screen of green) is widely recommended to even out the canopy and spread the dense colas.
  • Climate: warm, Mediterranean-style conditions; keep humidity low in flower and airflow high — the dense, sticky buds are prone to mold.
  • Outdoors: harvest around late October in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • Seeds vs clones: the original Seedism line was never sold feminized and the strain is mostly circulated as a clone; other banks sell separate "Super Glue" seed lines.

Trimming is the hardest part. That resin gums up scissors fast — have alcohol and a second pair ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Super Glue an indica or sativa?

Super Glue is an indica-leaning hybrid — about 60% indica and 40% sativa according to AllBud and Leafwell. It comes from an Afghani landrace and Northern Lights, two classic indicas, but its first hour is calm and focused rather than sedating.

Is Super Glue that strong?

It can be. Leafly lists 21% THC and most databases fall between 18% and 28%, but a Super Glue entry tested 32.14% THC at the 2017 High Times Cannabis Cup, and a Verano retail batch tested 31.6% total THC. Start small.

Is Super Glue the same as Gorilla Glue?

No. Super Glue is Afghani × Northern Lights from Seedism Seeds. Gorilla Glue #4 is Chem's Sister × Sour Dubb × Chocolate Diesel from GG Strains. They share a name and very sticky resin, not genetics.

Is Glue a sativa or indica strain?

It depends on which Glue. Super Glue is an indica-leaning hybrid. Gorilla Glue #4 is a balanced-to-indica-leaning hybrid known for a heavy, euphoric high. Neither is a pure sativa.

What is Super Glue a cross of?

Most sources — Leafly, Weedmaps, SeedFinder, AllBud and Leafwell — list an Afghani landrace crossed with Northern Lights. GreenState reports Northern Lights × an Afghani-dominant Skunk #1. A claim that it's GG4 × Gelato #45 has no breeder or database support.

Who bred Super Glue?

Seedism Seeds, a Dutch seed bank, according to Leafly and SeedFinder. Weedmaps notes its origins are somewhat mysterious, and other seed banks now sell their own Super Glue lines.

What does Super Glue taste like?

Diesel and lemon on the inhale, sweet pine on the exhale, with a caramel note many reviewers pick up. Leafly users call it woody, pine and pungent; some find the citrus sharp.

What does Super Glue feel like?

It starts calm, clear and a little spacey, with a tingle that spreads through the body. Over one to three hours it turns heavier and more relaxing, and at high doses it can cause couch-lock.

What is Super Glue good for?

Leafly reviewers most often report using it for stress (31%), anxiety (28%) and low mood (23%). These are consumer reports, not medical claims.

Is Super Glue good for sleep?

At higher doses, often yes — the body effect builds as the session goes on. At low doses it stays functional and social.

Why is it called Super Glue?

Because of the resin. Its trichomes are so sticky they look and feel like glue once the buds dry. Some reviewers add that it glues you to the couch.

How long does Super Glue take to flower?

About 8–9 weeks indoors per Weedmaps and Leafwell, with outdoor harvests around late October. It yields heavily and does well in a ScrOG setup.

Where can I buy Super Glue THCA flower online?

Super Glue isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Mule Fuel THCA Flower — an indica-leaning GMO Cookies × Lurch with gassy-earthy diesel, pepper, citrus and pine (a funkier, heavier take than Super Glue), ½oz for $65, third-party lab tested, with free shipping over $75.
