Blueberry Sugar Strain: Blueberry Candy From the Blockberry Breeder
The Blueberry Sugar strain is a modern dessert hybrid from Blockhead Buds — the same breeder who made Blockberry, the cross better known as Super Boof. The breeder lists it as Grape Cream Cake 2.1 × Blueberry Frosting, and the name tells you what it smells like: syrupy blueberry candy, vanilla frosting and a hint of grape. The high opens happy and uplifted, then settles into a relaxed body. It sits in the berry-and-dessert corner of our THCA flower collection.
It's also a strain the internet gets wrong. Several popular guides call the breeder unknown and guess at parents like "Blueberry × Sugar Cane," and one database lists a THC figure that obviously came from a concentrate. Below: what the breeder actually says, where the sources disagree, what the potency numbers mean, how the high unfolds, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at Blueberry Sugar's frosty buds.

- Type: Hybrid. SeedFinder lists it as an indica/sativa hybrid, and the breeder describes a balanced effect with "a noticeable sativa lift." Retail listings lean the other way: BC Cannabis Stores calls it indica-dominant, and THCA-flower sellers market it as an indica.
- Ancestry: Grape Cream Cake 2.1 × Blueberry Frosting, per the breeder's own description on SeedFinder. BC Cannabis Stores, Weedmaps and GrowDiaries list the same cross.
- Breeder: Blockhead Buds (also written Blockhead Budz). SeedFinder's breeder page describes Blockhead as the "Creator of Blockberry (aka Superboof), Halle Berry, Barry Bonds & Blueberry Sugar."
- THC: Varies by grower. One Canadian producer lists 26–32%; GrowDiaries lists 27–28%. The breeder itself says it's "not the highest THC strain."
- CBD: Trace — GrowDiaries lists 0.14%.
- Name note: Don't confuse it with "Blueberry sugar" concentrates — sugar wax made from a Blueberry strain, a different product entirely.
The parents
Grape Cream Cake is Grape Pie × Wedding Crasher — worked by Colorado's Bloom Seed Co, and the grape-candy, vanilla-cream dessert strain that finished runner-up for Leafly's 2023 Strain of the Year. The "2.1" appears to denote a specific selection rather than a different strain. It supplies the grape, the cream and much of the body weight.
Blueberry Frosting is credited on GrowDiaries to Humboldt Seed Company as Blueberry Muffin × Vanilla Frosting — a cross California menus also sell under that full name. It brings the blueberry, the powdered-sugar sweetness and the frosting-like resin. Put the two together and the name "Blueberry Sugar" is almost literal.
Where the sources disagree
The lineage isn't settled everywhere. SeedFinder's automatically built genealogy tree shows a longer pedigree — (Blueberry Cookies × Wedding Crasher) × (OGKB 2.1 × Grape Cream Cake) — which conflicts with the breeder's own two-parent description on the same page. A widely read JointCommerce guide says breeder records are "limited" and floats Blueberry × Sugar or Blueberry × Sugar Cane, without a source. One THCA-flower seller simply says "original Blueberry genetics." We go with the breeder's description: Grape Cream Cake 2.1 × Blueberry Frosting. None of the sources we checked trace it directly to DJ Short's classic Blueberry; the blueberry comes in through Blueberry Frosting.
The Blockhead connection
Blockhead's best-known cross is Blockberry (Black Cherry Punch × Tropicana Cookies), the strain a Michigan grower selected and released as Super Boof. SeedFinder describes Blueberry Sugar as one of Blockhead's newer strains, selected for flavor, a strong terpene profile, and solid growth and bud structure — and lists it as a "current staff favorite." SeedFinder records no distinct phenotypes yet and says it may be fairly uniform.
Blueberry Sugar Terpene Profile
Weedmaps and GrowDiaries both list myrcene, caryophyllene and pinene as the dominant trio; JointCommerce adds limonene, linalool and humulene. The breeder says total terpenes run 2.5–3.5% — high for any strain, and the reason it smells so loud for something the breeder doesn't sell on THC.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Myrcene — ripe berry, relaxed body
Caryophyllene — pepper, light spice, warmth
Pinene — pine, clear head
Limonene — candy-bright lift
Typical relative profile for Blueberry Sugar — myrcene-led per Weedmaps and GrowDiaries. Batch COAs vary by grower.
- Myrcene: Musky, ripe-fruit and earthy; it carries the jammy berry and the relaxed body.
- Caryophyllene: The faint pepper and spice on the exhale, and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
- Pinene: A whisper of pine, and part of why the head stays clear at modest doses.
- Limonene and linalool: Candy brightness and a floral, calming edge in some batches.
The "sugar" isn't a single terpene. It's the vanilla-frosting side of both parents layered over berry — the same trick that makes Blueberry Muffin smell baked.
Appearance
Blueberry Sugar earns the second half of its name on sight. Expect dense, medium-to-large buds with a heavy coat of white trichomes that looks like a dusting of sugar. Sellers describe green buds shaded with purple; JointCommerce notes purple and blue hues when night temperatures drop late in flower, with orange pistils that cure to amber. A Kelowna, BC producer describes its batches as "dense and trichome-rich."
Aroma and Flavor
Open a jar and the first hit is syrupy blueberry candy, then vanilla cream behind it. GrowDiaries describes "syrupy blueberry candy over vanilla cream" with a faint gassy edge; Weedmaps lists sweet blueberry, vanilla cream and earthy spice. The breeder simply calls it "deeply sweet and sugary."
The inhale is sugared berries. The exhale brings grape candy and frosting from the Grape Cream Cake side, with gentle spice and a whisper of pine underneath; one THCA seller describes a "creamy, grape-like aftertaste." Vaporized at lower temperatures, the blueberry and vanilla stay front and center. Combusted, it reads darker — toasted sugar and earth.
Recreational Effects
Blueberry Sugar is a balanced hybrid that tips toward relaxation as the dose goes up. The breeder describes "a noticeable sativa lift," mood elevation and some relaxation. Weedmaps' review-based summary describes a euphoric, uplifting onset followed by a relaxed body high that keeps a creative mindset. GrowDiaries lists the most-reported effects as:
- Happy: the headline effect — a warm, easy mood lift.
- Uplifted: the early sativa-side lift the breeder describes.
- Relaxed: a body calm that deepens with dose — the Grape Cream Cake influence.
- Creative: at small doses, a clear enough head for music, cooking or a hobby.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 5–10 minutes: a gentle, happy head change and a loosening in the shoulders.
- 30–60 minutes: the peak — euphoric and content, with the body getting heavier.
- 2–4 hours: a slow taper. At higher doses, expect couch time and the munchies.
Small doses read social and functional; big ones read like dessert after a long day.

How Strong Is Blueberry Sugar?
Reported numbers are all over the place, and that's the honest answer:
- The breeder (via SeedFinder): "not the highest THC strain" — selected for flavor and 2.5–3.5% terpenes, not raw potency.
- Valhalla Flwr (BC, via BC Cannabis Stores): 260–320 mg/g, or 26–32% THC, on its indoor batches.
- GrowDiaries: roughly 27–28% THC in well-cured batches.
- JointCommerce: 18–26%, but its own text says those figures are estimates from comparable blueberry-dessert hybrids.
- THCA-flower sellers: at least one markets an indoor batch at over 32% THCA.
Ignore the 82% figure on Weedmaps' strain page — that number comes from concentrate listings, not flower. The realistic picture: well-grown flower lands in the mid-to-high 20s, which is strong, and the breeder's "not the highest" comment says more about how potent modern menus have become than about this strain being weak. Grower and batch matter more than the name.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Blueberry Sugar against the 26–32% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Blueberry Sugar vs Similar Strains
- vs Blueberry: DJ Short's classic is the original blueberry indica — earthier and more old-school. Blueberry Sugar is sweeter, creamier and more candy-like, with grape on the finish.
- vs Grape Cream Cake: the parent. More grape and vanilla cake, and a sleepier finish. Blueberry Sugar trades some grape for blueberry and adds a brighter lift.
- vs Blueberry Muffin: the baked-goods blueberry. Similar fruit, but Blueberry Sugar is more frosting than muffin.
- vs Blockberry (Super Boof): same breeder, different direction — cherry, berry and orange with a giggly, creative high. Blueberry Sugar is the mellower, dessert-sweet sibling.
- vs Blueberry Cookies: another blueberry dessert hybrid; more cookie dough and earth, less grape.
- vs Blueberry Pancakes: our closest match in stock — Slurricane × Purple Panty Dropper, with a blueberry, grape-jam, maple and vanilla-batter nose. It shares Blueberry Sugar's blueberry-plus-grape dessert profile; it's indica-dominant, so it leans a little more toward the couch.
Who Blueberry Sugar Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: fans of sweet, fruity dessert strains; late-afternoon and evening sessions; anyone who chooses flower by flavor first.
Poor fit: people who want a racy daytime sativa, anyone who dislikes sweet profiles, and low-tolerance users with a high-testing batch. If you prefer a fruit strain with more energy, Strawberry Glue is the brighter option on our shelf.
How to Use Blueberry Sugar THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the blueberry and vanilla. Around 350–375°F keeps the candy notes; 385–400°F brings out more spice and body.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15 minutes. Regular users usually find two or three hits deliver the full happy-to-relaxed arc; more than that pushes it toward the couch. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report, not established clinical outcomes. Blueberry Sugar is too new to have a large review base, so treat this as an early picture. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Stress: the most common reason people reach for it, consistent with the happy, relaxed profile.
- Low mood: GrowDiaries lists depression among the conditions users associate with it; the breeder describes mood elevation.
- Aches and pains: also listed by GrowDiaries, in line with the relaxed, myrcene-led body effect.
- Winding down: heavier doses are used for evening relaxation and, for some, sleep.

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints.
- Dizziness — listed by GrowDiaries, usually from too much too fast.
- Couchlock and munchies — at higher doses.
- Anxiety — less common with a relaxed strain like this, but possible on a high-testing batch with low tolerance.
Is Blueberry Sugar good for sleep? At higher doses, often — at small doses it's more happy than sleepy. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
How to Judge a Good Bag of Blueberry Sugar
- Ask about the source. A seller who can say "Blockhead Buds, Grape Cream Cake 2.1 × Blueberry Frosting" knows what they have. "Just Blueberry" may be a different strain with a borrowed name.
- Flower, not wax. Make sure you're buying buds, not "Blueberry sugar" concentrate.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat big potency claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Candy, then cream. Real Blueberry Sugar smells like blueberry candy and vanilla frosting. Flat, grassy or hay-like means a bad cure; pure gas suggests a different cut.
- Sugar-coated frost and density, with trichomes all the way into the bud — the name should look true.
Growing Blueberry Sugar
Blueberry Sugar is a manageable, mid-height plant bred for bud structure and resin. It's a regular-seed release, so expect to pop a pack and select a keeper rather than run feminized seed.
- Flowering: about 8–9 weeks indoors — SeedFinder lists roughly 63 days, GrowDiaries 56–63.
- Yield: GrowDiaries lists about 350 g/m² indoors and around 450 g per plant outdoors; JointCommerce claims 400–550 g/m² with a trained canopy.
- Height: medium, with strong side branching. Topping, low-stress training and a ScrOG net all suit it.
- Color: cooler night temperatures in the last weeks bring out the purple and blue.
- Humidity: dense, resin-heavy colas — drop humidity to around 40–45% late in flower to head off bud rot.
- Seeds: regular seeds from Blockhead Buds; SeedFinder says it has never been released feminized.
Is Blueberry Sugar THCA Flower Legal?
Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is federally legal when it contains no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis — see the USDA hemp program. THCA flower is sold under that rule. State laws differ and are changing, so check your state before you order. And whatever the label says, THCA flower will show up on a drug test — heated, it is THC.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Blueberry Sugar indica or sativa?
It's a hybrid. SeedFinder lists it as an indica/sativa hybrid and the breeder describes a balanced high with a noticeable sativa lift, while Canadian and THCA-flower sellers market it as indica-dominant. In practice it opens happy and uplifted and turns relaxing as the dose goes up.
What is Blueberry Sugar a cross of?
Grape Cream Cake 2.1 × Blueberry Frosting, according to the breeder, Blockhead Buds. SeedFinder's automated genealogy tree shows a longer pedigree, and some guides guess at Blueberry × Sugar Cane, but neither matches the breeder's own description.
Who bred Blueberry Sugar?
Blockhead Buds (also written Blockhead Budz) — the same breeder who made Blockberry, the cross later selected and released as Super Boof.
What does Blueberry Sugar taste like?
Syrupy blueberry candy and vanilla cream on the inhale, with grape candy, frosting and light spice on the exhale.
How strong is Blueberry Sugar?
One BC producer lists 26–32% THC and GrowDiaries lists 27–28%, though the breeder says it's 'not the highest THC strain.' Expect mid-to-high 20s on well-grown flower, and check the batch COA.
What are the effects of Blueberry Sugar?
Happy, uplifted and relaxed. A euphoric onset gives way to a calm body high; small doses stay creative and social, bigger doses lean toward the couch.
Is Blueberry Sugar the same as Blueberry?
No. Blueberry is DJ Short's classic indica. Blueberry Sugar is a much newer Blockhead Buds cross of Grape Cream Cake 2.1 and Blueberry Frosting — sweeter and creamier, with grape on the finish.
Is Blueberry Sugar the same as Blockberry or Super Boof?
No. They share a breeder, Blockhead Buds, but Blockberry (Super Boof) is Black Cherry Punch × Tropicana Cookies, with a cherry-berry-orange profile.
Is Blueberry Sugar a concentrate?
Blueberry Sugar is a flower strain. 'Blueberry sugar' is also used on menus for sugar-wax concentrates made from Blueberry, so check the product type before you buy.
Is Blueberry Sugar good for sleep?
At higher doses, often — the relaxed, myrcene-led body effect builds as you go. At small doses it's more happy and social than sedating.
Is Blueberry Sugar good for beginners?
It's friendlier than racy sativas, but well-grown batches test in the high 20s. Beginners should take one small puff and wait 15 minutes.
How long does Blueberry Sugar take to flower?
About 56–63 days indoors, or 8–9 weeks. It's a regular-seed release from Blockhead Buds.
Where can I buy Blueberry Sugar THCA flower online?
Blueberry Sugar isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Blueberry Pancakes THCA Flower — an indica-dominant blueberry-dessert strain with a blueberry, grape-jam and vanilla-batter nose, from $24, third-party lab tested, with free shipping over $75.
