Lemon Drop Strain

Lemon Drop Strain: Candy Lemon in Flower Form

The Lemon Drop strain is a sativa-leaning hybrid named for exactly what it tastes like: the tart, sugar-coated lemon candy. Crack a jar and you get crisp lemon and sweet citrus; light it and you get a giggly, focused, upbeat high that most smokers save for the daytime. Leafly calls it "a mellow, fluffy bud that provides a pleasant, giggly sensation," and Cannabis & Glass goes further — "the ultimate daytime hybrid." It belongs in the bright-citrus lane of our THCA flower collection.

What Lemon Drop doesn't have is a settled family tree. Weedmaps says its past is unknown, an L.A. brand sells a Lemon Tree × Gelato 41 version, a SeedFinder entry lists a Hindu Kush cross, and at least one THCA retailer sells a Lemon Skunk × Sour Diesel cut. Below: what each source says, how strong it really is, the terpenes behind the lemon, how the high unfolds, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

Quick Facts

In short: A sativa-leaning hybrid with a crisp, candy-lemon flavor and a giggly, focused, energetic high — a classic daytime strain whose exact lineage depends on whose Lemon Drop you're holding.

Lemon Drop Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Sativa-leaning hybrid. AllBud and Cannabis & Glass both list it as a 60/40 sativa-dominant hybrid; Leafly simply calls it a hybrid; SeedFinder's Clone Only Strains entry calls it "mostly indica."
  • Ancestry: Disputed — see below. No single version has been verified as the original.
  • Breeder: None confirmed. Cannabis & Glass says its "exact origins are unknown, but it has been floating around the west coast for longer than a decade."
  • THC: Leafly lists 16%, Cannabis & Glass 17%, AllBud 18%. Recent brand cuts run much higher — about 27–30% (details below).
  • CBD: Negligible. AllBud lists about 1% CBD and 1% CBN; Leafly lists 0% CBD.

Four different "Lemon Drops"

Lemon Drop is a name, not a single genotype. These are the versions with a named source:

  • Unknown heritage (the classic West Coast cut): Weedmaps describes it as "a sativa-leaning hybrid with an unknown past," on the strain circuit for over a decade. This is the version most strain databases describe.
  • Lemon Tree × Gelato 41: the Lemon Drop sold by the Los Angeles brand LAX Packs, per a February 2024 L.A. TACO review. That puts Lemon Tree's Lemon Skunk and Sour Diesel roots, plus the Gelato family, in the mix.
  • Hindu Kush × Matanuska Thunderfuck × Pakistani landrace: the lineage listed on SeedFinder for a Clone Only Strains entry — the Alaskan Thunder Fuck line on an indica base. SeedFinder lists one known descendant, Ken's Lemonstar (Lemon Drop × Deathstar).
  • Lemon Skunk × Sour Diesel: the lineage a hemp retailer, The Hemp Spectrum, gives for the Lemon Drop THCA flower it sells.

GrowDiaries floats Lemon Kush × GSC as a possibility but labels it a guess, so we don't count it. The honest takeaway: two jars both labeled Lemon Drop can come from different plants. The lemon-candy flavor and the upbeat, giggly high are what they share — and what the name promises.

Not to be confused with

Lemon G (a separate clone-only lemon strain reviewers often compare it to), Lemon Drop Top, Lemon Drop Cookies and Lemon Drip are all different strains with their own genetics. If a menu lists one of those, it isn't Lemon Drop.

Lemon Drop Terpene Profile

Lab data and brand data disagree here, which fits a strain with several cuts. Leafly, using terpene data from products tested in its certified labs, lists myrcene as the most abundant terpene, followed by pinene and caryophyllene. The LAX Packs version reviewed by L.A. TACO is described as high in caryophyllene, limonene and linalool. Either way, caryophyllene shows up in both — and the lemon you smell is a product of the whole blend, not one compound.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Myrcene — herbal, earthy, the mellow floor

Pinene — pine, clear-headed focus

Caryophyllene — pepper, a warm finish

Limonene — bright lemon-citrus lift

Typical relative profile for Lemon Drop — myrcene-led per Leafly's lab-tested data. Gelato-line cuts such as LAX Packs' read more caryophyllene- and limonene-forward.

  • Myrcene: The most common terpene in cannabis — herbal and earthy. It's likely why Leafly calls Lemon Drop "mellow" rather than racy.
  • Pinene: Fresh pine and a clean edge on the nose; associated with the clear, focused quality reviewers describe.
  • Caryophyllene: Peppery and warm. It's the only common terpene known to bind directly to the body's CB2 receptors.
  • Limonene: The bright citrus top note in many lemon strains, and a big part of the mood lift on limonene-heavy cuts.

Leafly's flavor tags include "tea" alongside lemon and citrus — a nod to that herbal myrcene base under the candy.

Appearance

Lemon Drop is usually described as light and fluffy rather than rock-dense. AllBud describes green, fluffy buds covered in trichomes; Weedmaps says cured buds are light green with orange hairs; L.A. TACO's photo shows "frosty looking nugs." Fluffy structure is normal for a sativa-leaning plant — it doesn't mean the bag is low quality, as long as the frost is there.

Aroma and Flavor

The name does the work. Leafly describes "a lemony, clean taste that is reminiscent of the candy of the same name," and Weedmaps breaks its reported flavors down as lemon (48%), citrus (33%) and sweet (19%), with an aroma that is "citrusy and slightly sour, with a candy-like sweetness." AllBud adds grapefruit and a tropical note, plus dank, earthy aromas underneath. Cannabis & Glass calls it "crisp, lemony ... much like the tart and tasty candy." Expect sweet-and-sour lemon on the inhale and a clean, slightly herbal, tea-like exhale.

Recreational Effects

Lemon Drop is a daytime strain. Leafly says its effects are "mostly energizing" and "more euphoric, focused," though "some phenotypes produce a stronger body feeling that is relaxing yet not overpowering." Across the ranking sources, the most-reported effects are:

  • Giggly: Leafly's top effect, and the one people remember — Cannabis & Glass says it brings "an increase in laughter and social interaction."
  • Focused: functional enough for errands, chores and creative work.
  • Happy and euphoric: a clean mood lift without heavy sedation.
  • Energetic: L.A. TACO's smokers described an "energetic" and "uplifting" head high, "similar to a classic Haze."
  • Hungry: AllBud lists an appetite bump among its effects.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 5–10 minutes: a bright, quick lift behind the eyes and a lighter mood.
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak — talkative, giggly and focused. L.A. TACO calls it a good "first smoke of the day."
  • 1–2+ hours: a gentle taper. On body-heavier phenotypes, a relaxed calm takes over without couch-lock.

Dose changes the character. L.A. TACO found it "on the more mellow side" at low doses, but "at higher doses it can be quite potent and intoxicating."

How Strong Is Lemon Drop?

"Is Lemon Drop strong?" is one of the most-asked questions about it, and the answer depends on the cut. The strain databases describe moderate-to-strong flower; newer brand versions test much hotter:

  • Leafly: 16% THC — which Leafly still rates "higher THC than average."
  • Cannabis & Glass: 17% THC.
  • AllBud: 18% THC, and calls it "quite potent ... not for the faint of heart."
  • Revert NYC (sun-grown New York brand): 26.9% THC flower.
  • LAX Packs (via L.A. TACO): around 30% THC.
  • The Hemp Spectrum (THCA flower): 28.17% THCA.

So the classic Lemon Drop sits in the high teens, while modern cuts sold under the name commonly land in the high 20s. Both AllBud and Cannabis & Glass warn that the sweet name undersells it — this isn't a beginner's strain at full dose.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Lemon Drop batch against the 16–30% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Lemon Drop vs Similar Strains

  • vs Lemon Tree: a named parent of the LAX Packs cut. Lemon Tree is gassier, with more Sour Diesel fuel; Lemon Drop is sweeter and more candy-like.
  • vs Lemon Haze and Super Lemon Haze: the classic lemon sativas. Both run racier and more electric; Lemon Drop is mellower and more giggly.
  • vs Lemon Skunk: a named parent in two of the claimed lineages. Lemon Skunk has more skunky funk under the lemon.
  • vs Lemon Cherry Gelato: lemon up top with a creamy Gelato finish and a heavier body — closer to the Gelato 41-backed LAX Packs cut than the classic one.
  • vs Pink Lemonade: another sweet-and-sour citrus daytime strain, with more berry in the sweetness.
  • vs Dayglow Mousse: our closest in-stock match — an Agent Orange-line citrus hybrid with the same bright, sativa-leaning daytime character. Orange-citrus rather than lemon-candy, but the same lane.

Who Lemon Drop Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: daytime smokers who want to stay functional; social sessions, walks and creative work; anyone who loves bright, sweet citrus flavors.

Poor fit: people looking for a sleep strain, or beginners taking a full dose of a high-20s cut. For a gentler fruit-forward option, Strawberry 2.1 is the lighter pick on our shelf.

How to Use Lemon Drop THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to keep the candy-lemon top notes intact. Around 350–370°F preserves the citrus; 380–400°F brings out the herbal, tea-like base.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–30 minutes. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full giggly, focused arc without tipping into the heavier, more intoxicating side. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 35% of reviewers).
  • Anxiety: about 34% report it helps — lower doses are the usual approach.
  • Low mood: about 26%, consistent with the happy, giggly headline effect.
  • Appetite: AllBud and GrowDiaries both note an appetite boost.

For a plain-language primer on how terpenes are thought to shape these effects, see Project CBD on terpenes. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — Leafly's top two negatives.
  • Dizziness — Leafly's third most-reported negative, usually from overdoing it.
  • Racing thoughts or anxiety — possible with high-THC cuts or low tolerance, as with any energizing strain.

Is Lemon Drop good for sleep? Not usually — it's energizing and social first. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Lemon Drop Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask which Lemon Drop. A good seller can tell you the lineage or the brand behind the cut. "Unknown" is honest for the classic cut — but know which one you're buying.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Real lemon on the nose. The name promises candy-lemon. If it smells like hay or plain earth, the terpenes are gone.
  • Frost over fluff. Fluffy is normal for this strain; a lack of trichomes isn't.
  • A proper cure — slightly sticky, not crumbly-dry, and no grassy smell.

Growing Lemon Drop

Lemon Drop is a sativa-leaning grow that needs some experience. Published grow data is thin, and because several cuts share the name, results depend heavily on which genetics you start with.

  • Training: Weedmaps recommends a Screen of Green (SCROG) — plants grow relatively tall and vigorously.
  • Yield: medium, per Weedmaps. No reliable published numbers exist for the classic cut.
  • Climate: warm or sub-tropical; indoors or outdoors, in soil or hydro.
  • Watch-outs: GrowDiaries notes it handles stress poorly and needs close monitoring for mold, mites and pests.
  • Genetics: SeedFinder lists the Clone Only Strains version as clone-only; other versions are brand-held. Seeds labeled "Lemon Drop" may be any of the crosses above.

Is Lemon Drop THCA Flower Legal?

Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is federally legal when it contains no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis — see the USDA hemp program. THCA flower is sold under that rule. State laws differ and are changing, so check your state before you order. And whatever the label says, THCA flower will show up on a drug test — heated, it is THC.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Lemon Drop indica or sativa?

Lemon Drop is a sativa-leaning hybrid. AllBud and Cannabis & Glass list it as 60% sativa / 40% indica, and its reported effects — giggly, focused, energetic — are sativa-like. One SeedFinder entry for a Clone Only Strains version calls it mostly indica, which reflects how many different cuts share the name.

Is Lemon Drop strong?

Yes, especially modern cuts. Leafly lists 16% THC and AllBud 18%, but brand versions such as LAX Packs' report around 30%. AllBud calls it 'quite potent' and not for beginners, so start with a puff or two.

What is Lemon Drop a cross of?

It's disputed. Weedmaps and Cannabis & Glass say its origins are unknown. LAX Packs sells a Lemon Tree × Gelato 41 version, SeedFinder lists a Clone Only Strains version as Hindu Kush × Matanuska Thunderfuck × Pakistani landrace, and one THCA retailer sells a Lemon Skunk × Sour Diesel cut.

What does Lemon Drop taste like?

Like the candy: crisp, sweet-and-sour lemon up front, with citrus, a little grapefruit and a clean, slightly herbal, tea-like exhale.

What are the effects of Lemon Drop?

Leafly users report giggly, focused and happy effects, and Leafly calls it mostly energizing. Expect an upbeat, social, functional high; some phenotypes add a relaxing but not heavy body feel.

What terpenes are in Lemon Drop?

Leafly's lab-tested data lists myrcene first, then pinene and caryophyllene. The LAX Packs cut is described as high in caryophyllene, limonene and linalool.

Is Lemon Drop good for anxiety?

About 34% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety and 35% with stress. Because it's energizing, low doses are the safer approach for anyone prone to THC anxiety.

Is Lemon Drop good for sleep?

Not usually. It's a daytime, energizing strain. Some body-heavier phenotypes relax, but it's not a sleep strain.

Is Lemon Drop good for beginners?

At a small dose, it's friendlier than most potent strains thanks to its mellow, giggly character. But AllBud and Cannabis & Glass both warn it's stronger than the name suggests — one small puff, then wait.

What strains are similar to Lemon Drop?

Lemon Tree, Lemon Haze, Super Lemon Haze, Lemon Skunk, Pink Lemonade and Lemon Cherry Gelato all share the bright citrus profile. At Diesel Hemp, Dayglow Mousse is the closest in-stock match.

Is Lemon Drop the same as Lemon G or Lemon Drop Cookies?

No. Lemon G, Lemon Drop Cookies and Lemon Drop Top are separate strains with their own genetics, even though the names overlap.

Where can I buy Lemon Drop THCA flower online?

Lemon Drop isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Dayglow Mousse THCA Flower — a bright, sativa-leaning citrus hybrid with the same upbeat, daytime lane, from $29, third-party lab tested, with free shipping over $75. For lemon with a Gelato-family finish, try Lemon Cherry Gelato.
