Bacio Gelato Strain

Bacio Gelato Strain: The Bacio Cut of Gelato #41

The Bacio Gelato strain is the Bacio cut of Gelato #41 — one plant selected from the original Gelato seed run, Sunset Sherbet crossed with Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies, by Mario Guzman of Sherbinskis. It smells like sweet berry, vanilla and mint sitting on top of loud fuel, and delivers a fast, euphoric lift that settles into a calm, heavy body. Leafly calls it one of the most potent strains in the Gelato lineup, and it fits the dessert-and-gas corner of our THCA flower collection.

It's also a name that confuses people. "Bacio" isn't a different strain from Gelato #41 — it's the nickname for that cut, and "bacio" is Italian for "kiss." Below: what Bacio Gelato actually is, how it differs from its Gelato sisters, why it smells so gassy, what the potency numbers mean, how the high unfolds, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

Quick Facts

In short: The Bacio cut of Gelato #41 — Sherbinskis' Sunset Sherbet × Thin Mint GSC selection. Sweet berry, vanilla and mint over loud fuel; a quick euphoric lift into a calm, heavy body; and one of the most potent and most-bred cuts in the Gelato family.

Bacio Gelato Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. AllBud and Leafwell list it as an even 50/50; one clone nursery calls it balanced. Leafly's reviewers, though, rank aroused, relaxed and sleepy as the top effects, so most people treat it as an evening, indica-leaning strain.
  • Ancestry: Sunset Sherbet × Thin Mint GSC — the same cross as every original Gelato. Sunset Sherbet is itself Pink Panties × GSC, so Bacio is GSC on both sides.
  • Breeder: Mario Guzman, better known as Mr. Sherbinski, founder of Sherbinskis. Leafly, The Highest Critic and The Clone Foundry all credit Sherbinskis.
  • THC: AllBud lists 25–29%; Leafwell 26–28%. Leafly doesn't list a figure but calls it one of the most potent cuts in the Gelato lineup.
  • CBD: Negligible — Leafwell lists roughly 0.5–1.2%.
  • Aliases: Bacio, Gelato #41, Gelato 41, Bacio 41.

Is Bacio Gelato the same as Gelato #41?

Yes, by most accounts. Terpene lab Abstrax Tech, which worked directly with Guzman on the strain, says Bacio is "sometimes referred to simply as Gelato or Gelato #41." The Clone Foundry sells a Bacio Gelato S1 described as Gelato #41 crossed with itself, and Seeds Here Now's history of the line refers to the cut as "Bacio 41." Not every database agrees: SeedFinder's family tree lists Bacio as a descendant of Gelato #41 rather than the same plant. The weight of evidence says they're one cut under two names. Our Gelato 41 strain guide covers the number side of the story; this page focuses on what makes the Bacio cut what it is.

Where the number and the name come from

According to Abstrax, Guzman bred Sunset Sherbet, then crossed it with the Thin Mint Cookies cut in 2014. He numbered the pots as he hunted through the seedlings, and the keepers held onto their numbers. Seeds Here Now says Sherbinski put his stamp on only six selections — #25, #33, #41, #43, #47 and #49 — so "Gelato 42" and "Gelato 45" aren't part of his official set. Abstrax names four kept phenotypes with their own names:

  • Bacio (#41): the funky, fuel-forward one — and the heavy hitter.
  • Mochi (#47): creamy, minty and calming.
  • Acai Berry and Gello: the fruit-forward, brighter, more uplifting cuts.

Meanwhile Gelato 33 — the Larry Bird cut — is the sweeter, more balanced sister most dispensaries mean when they say plain "Gelato."

Bacio Gelato's offspring

Bacio has become a parent in its own right. Abstrax names it as the Gelato parent of Cookies' Gelatti (Gelato × Biscotti) and calls Area 41 a Bacio child. Gelonade is Lemon Tree × Gelato #41, and Humboldt Seed Organisation's San Bacio Gelato crosses Bacio with 3 Kings × Blueberry Headband — SeedFinder describes the original Bacio as a "highly-guarded and uncirculated elite clone."

Bacio Gelato Terpene Profile

Abstrax says all four Gelato phenotypes share the same dominant terpenes — limonene, myrcene and caryophyllene — and sources split on which leads in Bacio: Leafwell lists limonene first, while several dispensary guides put caryophyllene on top. Leafwell also notes pinene, and one dispensary guide adds linalool and reports total terpenes of 2.0–2.7% on lab reports. What really separates Bacio from its sisters isn't a terpene at all — it's sulfur.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Limonene — sweet citrus-berry top notes

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the gassy backbone

Myrcene — earthy, heavy, sleepy body

Pinene — pine, a little clarity

Typical relative profile for Bacio Gelato — limonene, caryophyllene and myrcene per Abstrax and Leafwell. The fuel comes mostly from sulfur compounds, not terpenes.

  • Limonene: The bright, sweet citrus-berry top end. Abstrax describes all Gelato phenotypes as limonene-rich.
  • Caryophyllene: Peppery and spicy, it's the only common terpene known to bind directly to CB2 receptors.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and musky, and likely part of why Bacio's finish turns heavy and sleepy.
  • Pinene: A light pine note listed by Leafwell.

Why does Bacio Gelato smell so gassy?

Sulfur. In 2021, researchers working with Abstrax identified a family of prenylated volatile sulfur compounds that give cannabis its skunky, fuel-like smell even at tiny concentrations. When Abstrax later measured Bacio, it scored 103% on the company's "Gas Factor" scale — above the previous high of 98%, held by Area 41, a Bacio child — and Abstrax calls it the gassiest strain it has ever measured. That's a company's own ranking, not independent research, but it matches what smokers report. Abstrax also found fruity esters (ethyl and isopropyl senecioate) and a trace of indole, which reads as faintly floral at low levels. Put together: fuel underneath, berry and cream on top.

Appearance

Bacio Gelato grows dense, compact, resin-heavy buds. The Clone Foundry describes "dense, resin-frosted colas with purple highlights," and most jars show deep green calyxes flecked with purple, threaded with orange pistils and buried under a thick, sugary frost of trichomes. That resin load is why clone sellers pitch it for live rosin and full-spectrum extraction.

Aroma and Flavor

Crack a jar and the fuel hits first, then sweet berry, citrus and cream come up behind it. Break a bud and the gas gets louder. On the inhale, Leafly reviewers taste vanilla, berry and mint — the Thin Mint side showing through — with one describing "vanilla berries with sweet mint." AllBud's reviewers add menthol, creamy, mango, cocoa and gas notes. The exhale is earthier and spicier. Not every batch reads the same: The Highest Critic got "sweet pineapple with slight gas and petrichor" on the nose and nutty, savory notes on the palate. Leafly sums up the smoke as "thick, creamy, and rich" with a sweet overtone.

Recreational Effects

Leafly's reviewers call Bacio Gelato's effects "mostly calming" and suggest it for "a late night session or a lazy day with minimal plans." The most-reported effects:

  • Relaxed: the headline effect — a full-body calm that deepens with dose.
  • Aroused: Leafly's top-ranked effect, and AllBud's reviewers report it too.
  • Sleepy: especially toward the back half of the high.
  • Euphoric and happy: AllBud lists euphoria, happiness and an uplifted mood up front.
  • Creative and focused: at low doses, some reviewers describe a "grounded and focused" head that's good for a film or a project.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 5–10 minutes: a quick head change and mood lift. Some batches come on slower — The Highest Critic called its sample "delayed."
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak — euphoric and calm, with heavy eyes and a melting body.
  • 1–3 hours: a long, sleepy taper. AllBud reviewers mention couch lock and "long lasting."

Because it's potent and the body effect keeps building, dose slowly and save it for when you don't need to be anywhere.

How Strong Is Bacio Gelato? Is It the Strongest Gelato Strain?

Bacio Gelato has a reputation as the heavy hitter of the Gelato family. Leafly calls it "one of the most potent strains in the Gelato lineup" and says it's "designed with experienced consumers in mind." Published numbers:

  • AllBud: 25–29% THC.
  • Leafwell: 26–28% THC, with roughly 0.5–1.2% CBD.
  • Leafly: no figure listed.
  • Total terpenes: one dispensary guide reports 2.0–2.7% on lab reports — high for the Gelato line.

What is the strongest Gelato strain? No cut is reliably the strongest — growing, curing and testing move the numbers more than the phenotype does. That said, #41 (Bacio) carries the reputation for the biggest numbers and the heaviest effect, while Gelato 33 is the sweeter, more balanced cut. If potency matters to you, read the lab report, not the name.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Bacio Gelato batch against the 25–29% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Bacio Gelato vs Similar Strains

  • vs Gelato 41: the same cut, by most accounts — Bacio is the name for #41. If a seller lists both as different strains, ask which clone each came from.
  • vs Gelato 33 (Larry Bird): its sister. 33 is sweeter, creamier and more balanced; Bacio is gassier, heavier and more sedating.
  • vs Mochi (Gelato #47): another Sherbinskis sister — creamy and minty, also calming, but with far less fuel.
  • vs Gelatti: its child with Biscotti — more OG gas and menthol, with a more balanced high.
  • vs Sunset Sherbet: the fruitier parent. Bacio adds the Thin Mint's mint and a heavier, gassier body.
  • vs Lemon Cherry Gelato: from the same Sunset Sherbet × GSC family, with candied cherry and lemon in place of Bacio's fuel. A happier start, a similar relaxed finish — and it's the closest match on our shelf.

Who Bacio Gelato Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: experienced smokers who want a potent evening strain; fans of gassy dessert flavors; anyone looking to unwind after a long day.

Poor fit: beginners, anyone sensitive to high THC, or someone who needs to stay productive — Bacio is more likely to put you on the couch than spark a to-do list. For a gassier option on our shelf, Mule Fuel (GMO Cookies × Lurch) is our fuel-forward, indica-leaning pick.

How to Use Bacio Gelato THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the berry and cream before the fuel takes over. Around 350–380°F keeps the sweet top notes; 390–410°F brings out the pepper and the heavier body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one small puff, then wait 15–30 minutes — this is a potent, slow-building strain. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full arc; more than that and it turns very sleepy. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 14% of reviewers).
  • Anxiety: about 13% of Leafly reviewers report help — though high doses can have the opposite effect.
  • Pain: about 11% on Leafly; AllBud lists chronic pain too.
  • Low mood, fatigue and nausea: listed by AllBud's reviewers.
  • Sleep: its sleepy, couch-lock finish makes it a nighttime pick for many.

For a plain-language primer on how terpenes are thought to shape these effects, see Project CBD on terpenes. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Headache and dizziness — Leafly's top two reported negatives.
  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the usual complaints.
  • Paranoia — listed by Leafwell, more likely at high doses or low tolerance.
  • Couch lock and munchies — mentioned by AllBud's reviewers.

Is Bacio Gelato good for daytime? Usually not — it's calming and sleepy more than energizing. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Bacio Gelato Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask about the cut. The original Bacio is a guarded clone. "Bacio" from seed is a new phenotype or a cross, like San Bacio Gelato — fine, but not the same plant.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Gas and dessert. Real Bacio smells like fuel with berry and cream behind it. Sweet with no gas suggests a different Gelato cut.
  • Total terpenes — if the COA lists them, 2% or more points to a fresh, well-grown batch.
  • Frost, density and purple flecks, with trichomes inside the bud, not just on top.
  • A proper cure — a hay or grass smell means it was rushed, and it kills the fuel.

Growing Bacio Gelato

Bacio Gelato is a clone-only elite cut, so most home growers will be working with S1 seeds, crosses or a nursery clone. Leafwell rates it challenging; The Clone Foundry says it takes topping, LST and SCROG well.

  • Flowering: about 8–9 weeks indoors (Leafwell and The Clone Foundry).
  • Outdoors: harvest around mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • Height: medium, with moderate stretch — Leafwell says it rarely tops 30 inches indoors.
  • Environment: high-intensity light and humidity under 60%; it's prone to mold and overwatering, so keep airflow strong and defoliate mid-to-late veg.
  • Yield: no reliable published figure for the original cut; its value is resin and terpene load, which makes it a favorite for rosin.
  • Seeds and clones: Bacio Gelato S1 clones (Gelato #41 × itself) and Humboldt Seed Organisation's feminized San Bacio Gelato (about 60–67 days) are the common routes in.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Bacio Gelato?

Bacio Gelato is the Bacio cut of Gelato #41 — one plant selected from Sherbinskis' original Gelato seed run, Sunset Sherbet × Thin Mint GSC, bred by Mario Guzman. It's known as the gassiest, heaviest-hitting of the Gelato selections.

Is Bacio Gelato a sativa or indica?

It's a hybrid. AllBud and Leafwell list it as 50/50, but Leafly's reviewers rank relaxed and sleepy among its top effects, so most people use it as an evening, indica-leaning strain.

Is Bacio Gelato the same as Gelato 41?

By most accounts, yes. Abstrax Tech, which worked with the breeder, says Bacio is also called Gelato #41, and clone sellers describe Bacio S1 as Gelato #41 crossed with itself. SeedFinder is the outlier, listing Bacio as a descendant of #41.

What are the effects of the Bacio strain?

Leafly reviewers say its effects are mostly calming — relaxed, aroused and sleepy — with a euphoric, happy lift at the start. At higher doses it turns into couch lock.

How strong is Bacio Gelato?

AllBud lists 25–29% THC and Leafwell 26–28%. Leafly calls it one of the most potent strains in the Gelato lineup. Start with one small puff.

What is the strongest Gelato strain?

No cut is reliably the strongest — growing and testing matter more than the name. Gelato #41 (Bacio) has the reputation for the biggest numbers and the heaviest effect; Gelato 33 is the sweeter, more balanced cut.

What does Bacio Gelato taste like?

Sweet vanilla, berry and mint on the inhale over loud fuel, with an earthy, spicy exhale. Reviewers also mention cream, menthol, citrus and cocoa notes.

Why does Bacio Gelato smell like gas?

Sulfur compounds. Terpene lab Abstrax measured Bacio as the gassiest strain it has tested, driven by prenylated volatile sulfur compounds, with fruity esters adding the sweetness on top.

What does 'bacio' mean?

It's Italian for 'kiss.' Sherbinskis gave its kept Gelato phenotypes dessert-style names — Bacio, Mochi, Acai Berry and Gello.

Is Bacio Gelato good for sleep?

Many reviewers say so. Sleepy is one of Leafly's top reported effects, and its long, heavy finish makes it a common nighttime pick.

Is Bacio Gelato good for beginners?

Not really — it's potent and the body effect keeps building. If you try it, take one small puff and wait 15–30 minutes before more.

How long does Bacio Gelato take to flower?

About 8–9 weeks indoors, with outdoor harvests around mid-October. It's mold-prone, so keep humidity under 60%.

Where can I buy Bacio Gelato THCA flower online?

Bacio Gelato isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now.
