Platinum Cookies Strain: The Frostiest Cut of GSC
The Platinum Cookies strain — also sold as Platinum GSC or Platinum Girl Scout Cookies — is one of the named cuts of Girl Scout Cookies, the OG Kush × Durban Poison line that reshaped modern weed. The "platinum" is the frost: the buds wear such a thick coat of white trichomes they look silver. Leafly calls it "the next evolution of GSC," and it's the cut that took first place in U.S. Mixed Flowers at the 2013 Cannabis Cup in Denver. Expect sweet berry and candy over earth and spice, and a happy, euphoric high that slides into a calm body. For flower in a similar lane, browse our THCA flower collection.
It's also a strain where the internet doesn't agree with itself. Is it 50/50 or indica-leaning? Is the third parent Cherry Kush, Thin Mint GSC or unknown? Is it 17% THC or 28%? Below, we lay out what each source actually says — plus the cup history, how the high unfolds, how to grow it and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at Platinum Cookies' frosty buds.

- Type: Hybrid. AllBud lists it as an even 50/50; SeedFinder calls it mostly indica; Leafwell says 60% indica. Leafly lists it as a hybrid with "mostly calming" effects, but its grow notes describe four phenotypes — three with sativa influence and one more indica-like — which helps explain the disagreement.
- Parents: Leafly and AllBud list OG Kush × Durban Poison. Leafly adds that a third, unknown strain is in the mix.
- Phenotype status: SeedFinder and NuggMD describe it as a phenotype of GSC — SeedFinder labels it the "Platinum Cut" and says it probably comes from the Thin Mint GSC line.
- Breeder: not confirmed. GSC itself traces to the Bay Area Cookies crew; no source we found names who selected the Platinum cut. SeedFinder files it under "Clone Only Strains," a database label rather than a breeder.
- THC: 17% on Leafly; 18–26% on AllBud and NuggMD; 25–28% on United Cannabis Seeds' feminized version.
- Aliases: Platinum GSC, Platinum Girl Scout Cookies, PGSC.
The third-parent question
Three answers float around. CelebStoner's 2013 Cup report described the winning "platinum" version as a mix of OG Kush, Durban Poison and Cherry Kush. SeedFinder's tree runs through Thin Mint GSC — which is itself OG Kush × F1 Durban, so that version adds no new strain at all. Leafly just says "unknown," and Benzinga notes the genetics "remain unconfirmed." We can't settle it, and neither can anyone selling it without paperwork. The safe version: Platinum Cookies is a GSC cut, and the OG Kush and Durban Poison sides are the ones every source agrees on.
Why it's called "Platinum"
AllBud says the name comes from its heavy coat of bright white crystal trichomes, and Leafwell credits the small, tight, frosty buds. Under light, a well-grown jar looks silver-white more than green — hence platinum. No source mentions a breeder's naming story beyond that.
Platinum Cookies' offspring
SeedFinder counts 58 direct descendants — a sign of how much breeders valued this cut. Leafly lists Candyland (Granddaddy Purple × Bay Platinum Cookies) and Brownie Scout as children. SeedFinder adds Apples and Bananas (usually listed as ((Platinum Cookies × Granddaddy Purple) × Blue Power) × Gelatti), Grand Daddy Purp's Bay Platinum Cookies, Banana Cream Cookies and Blue Magoo Cookies.
Platinum Cookies Terpene Profile
Leafly lists caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, followed by limonene and myrcene; NuggMD and Leafwell list the same three. One strain guide adds humulene, without lab data. That caryophyllene lead is classic GSC — the peppery, spicy backbone under the sweetness. It's also the one terpene with real research interest: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the cookie backbone
Limonene — citrus-sweet lift, mood
Myrcene — earthy, musky, the relaxed body
Humulene — woody, earthy dryness
Estimated relative profile for Platinum Cookies — the caryophyllene > limonene > myrcene order is Leafly's; humulene comes from one strain guide without lab data. No published terpene percentages were found.
- Caryophyllene: The spicy, peppery edge — AllBud's "spicy" and "nutty" aroma tags. It's the terpene GSC-family strains share most.
- Limonene: Brightens the sweet berry-candy top note and likely contributes to the happy, euphoric start.
- Myrcene: The earthy, musky base, and part of why the finish turns relaxed and calm.
- Humulene: A woody, earthy note one guide lists; plausible for an OG-descended cut, not proven.
No terpene on its own is the "cookie." It's the sweet-and-spice blend — limonene's brightness over caryophyllene and myrcene — and it varies between phenotypes, which is why two bags of Platinum Cookies can smell noticeably different.
Appearance
This is the part that earns the name. AllBud describes dense, dark olive-green nugs with dark amber hairs under a heavy coat of tiny, bright white trichomes. Leafly mentions a heavy coat of crystal trichomes on sage-green leaves. SeedFinder adds orange and purple to the palette, and one grower on GrowWeedEasy reports that cool nights turned his plants purple, with sparkly buds and orange hairs. Expect compact, frosty buds that look silver-white in the jar — and if yours look plain green and dull, be suspicious.
Aroma and Flavor
Open the jar and the first hit is sweet — berry and candy, per Leafly's description — followed by a fruity spiciness. AllBud's aroma tags read berry, dank, musky, nutty, spicy and sweet; its flavor tags are candy and sweet. Leafly's flavor tags are sweet, flowery and earthy, and Benzinga says it usually runs "a little bit more fruity" than standard GSC. SeedFinder points to a fuel note "reminiscent of OG strains," which is the OG Kush side showing.
On the exhale, think sugar cookie and berry up front, then earth and pepper. A few Leafly reviewers call it "smooth" and "easy on the lungs," while one found a batch harsh and chemical — usually a sign of a rushed dry or cure, not the strain.
Recreational Effects
Platinum Cookies is a balanced, feel-good hybrid that leans calm. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.5 rating from more than 1,300 reviews, the top reported effects are:
- Relaxed: the headline effect. One reviewer describes a "really relaxed hybrid high that leans slightly indica."
- Euphoric and happy: a mood lift up front; another reviewer says it made "everything so funny" while staying calm.
- Uplifted, then body-heavy: AllBud lists body high, relaxing and uplifting; Theory Wellness describes an uplifting, happy start followed by a tingly body buzz.
- Creative and hungry: Benzinga lists hungry, relaxed and creative as its top reported effects. Plan for snacks.
Not every phenotype hits the same. One Leafly reviewer says it "kick starts my brain," while SeedFinder calls the effect "spacey and relaxing." And one longtime reviewer warns that some batches will "knock you on your ass."
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First few minutes: a happy, euphoric head change — the Durban side.
- 15–60 minutes: the peak, with a tingly, relaxed body settling in under a good mood.
- 1–3 hours: a long, calm comedown. At higher doses it turns couch-friendly and sleepy.
Most people use it in the afternoon or evening. A small dose works socially; a big one is a night in.

How Strong Is Platinum Cookies?
Platinum Cookies is above average, and the published numbers spread wide:
- Leafly: 17% THC, 0% CBD — "higher THC than average."
- AllBud: 18–26% THC, with about 1% CBN.
- NuggMD: 18% at a glance, 18–26% as a range.
- United Cannabis Seeds (feminized seeds): 25–28% — a breeder's claim, not a lab result.
- One home grower (GrowWeedEasy): buds reportedly tested 25–27%, lab not named.
Leafwell lists 2.4–2.7% CBD, but no other source agrees, so we'd treat that as an outlier. Realistically, a well-grown modern batch lands around 20–25% total THC. The 2013-era clone was a different world, and 28% claims without a certificate are marketing.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Platinum Cookies against the 17–28% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
The Cup That Made Platinum Cookies Famous
Leafly calls it "Cup-winning," and here the claim holds up. According to CelebStoner's 2013 Cup report, "Veganic Girl Scout Cookies (Platinum Cut)" from Private Stock LA, sourced through Buds and Roses Collective, took first place in U.S. Mixed Flowers at the 2013 U.S. Cannabis Cup in Denver — which is what NuggMD means when it says Platinum Cookies won "the first U.S. High Times Cannabis Cup in Denver." SeedFinder also lists a first place at the 2013 Santa Cruz Cup in the Outdoor – Indica category; we couldn't confirm that one independently. Either way, 2013 was the year GSC cuts dominated, and the Platinum cut was among the most decorated.
Platinum Cookies vs GSC: What's the Difference?
Genetically, Platinum Cookies is GSC — same OG Kush and Durban Poison family. But "GSC" on a menu can mean several different clones, and they don't all look or taste alike. Leafly lists two named variations, Thin Mint and Platinum GSC; Forum Cut is another. Here's how they differ, based on what the sources say:
- Platinum Cookies: the frostiest — silver-white buds, sweeter and fruitier (berry, candy), with a relaxed, calming finish.
- Thin Mint GSC: mintier and more menthol, often darker green and purple. Cannabis Now calls it the original Cookies cut, and it's the parent of Gelato.
- Standard GSC: the classic sweet-earth-and-mint cookie nose with a euphoric, full-body high.
If you've had GSC and want the same family with more frost and a softer, sweeter landing, Platinum is the cut to look for.
Platinum Cookies vs Similar Strains
- vs Platinum OG: name-alike, different family. Platinum OG is an OG Kush–type indica with pine and fuel; Platinum Cookies is the sweeter, more balanced GSC cut.
- vs Animal Cookies: GSC × Fire OG — a heavier, gassier Cookies cross. Pick Platinum if you want sweet over sharp.
- vs Gelato: a grandchild of the GSC family through Thin Mint — creamier and more dessert-like, with a similar happy-to-relaxed arc.
- vs Candyland: a descendant through Bay Platinum Cookies, but more energetic and sativa-leaning.
- vs Permanent Marker: our featured in-stock pick, and not a twin. Permanent Marker is a modern (Biscotti × Sherb Bx) × Jealousy hybrid — its parents descend from the Cookies and Gelato family — with a louder floral-candy-gas nose and a relaxed, heavier finish. Prefer concentrates? Our HBIC live rosin is the solventless option on our shelf.
Who Platinum Cookies Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: GSC fans, people who want a balanced hybrid that relaxes without knocking them out at low doses, evening unwinding, social sessions with snacks, and anyone who buys with their eyes — the frost is the show.
Poor fit: brand-new consumers (some batches are strong), people prone to THC anxiety — "anxious" is among Leafly's reported negatives — and anyone who needs a clear head for work. For a sweet, Cookies-family flower with a relaxed finish on our shelf, Permanent Marker is the pick, from $65.
How to Use Platinum Cookies THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the berry and candy. Around 350–380°F keeps it sweet and bright; 390–410°F brings out the pepper, earth and a heavier body.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–30 minutes. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full happy-to-relaxed arc. Batches vary, so treat every new bag like a first try. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Stress: the most-cited reason on Leafly, at about 35% of reviewers.
- Pain: about 30% of Leafly reviewers; AllBud lists chronic pain and migraines.
- Anxiety: about 27% of Leafly reviewers — though "anxious" is also a reported negative, so dose matters.
- Nausea and appetite: AllBud lists nausea, and Benzinga's top effects include hungry.

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes — Leafly's most common complaints.
- Anxiety or paranoia — listed by Leafly and NuggMD, more likely at high doses.
- Dizziness — NuggMD lists it, and one AllBud reviewer said a strong batch made them dizzy.
- Sleepiness — at higher doses the relaxed body can turn sedating.
Is Platinum Cookies good for sleep? At a higher dose in the evening, many people find it helpful, but it isn't a knockout indica. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Platinum Cookies Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Frost first. The whole point of this cut is the silver-white trichome coat. Thin, green buds with little resin aren't living up to the name.
- Sweet and spice. Real Platinum Cookies smells like berry and candy over earth and pepper, sometimes with a touch of OG fuel. Flat hay or grass means a bad cure.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 28%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Ask about the source. With so many GSC cuts and seed versions in circulation, a seller who can tell you whether it's the clone or a seed line is a good sign.
- Dense, compact nugs that break apart sticky, not crumbly-dry.
Growing Platinum Cookies
Platinum Cookies started as a clone-only cut; today you can also find feminized seed versions from United Cannabis Seeds and Seed Supreme. NuggMD rates it for experienced growers.
- Flowering: 8–10 weeks per NuggMD; about 64 days for United Cannabis Seeds' version; 8–9 weeks per Leafwell. One GrowWeedEasy grower found his Seed Supreme plants needed closer to 12 weeks.
- Climate: Leafly says it needs a dry climate outdoors and does best grown large rather than confined to small pots. NuggMD suggests 70–80°F with medium humidity.
- Height and training: 5–6 feet per NuggMD and Leafwell. Growers report it responds well to topping and low-stress training, and it clones easily.
- Yield: medium — Leafwell estimates about 12 oz/m² indoors and around 16 oz per plant outdoors in hot, dry conditions; the GrowWeedEasy grower harvested 4–5 oz per plant.
- Color: cool nights late in flower can bring out purple hues.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Platinum Cookies indica or sativa?

What is Platinum Cookies a cross of?

Is Platinum Cookies the same as Platinum GSC?
Yes. Platinum Cookies, Platinum GSC, Platinum Girl Scout Cookies and PGSC are the same strain. It's not the same as Platinum OG, which is an unrelated OG Kush–type indica.
Is Platinum Cookies the same as Girl Scout Cookies?
It's one cut of GSC, not a separate cross. Compared with standard GSC and Thin Mint, it's known for heavier frost and a sweeter, fruitier nose.
Did Platinum Cookies win a Cannabis Cup?
Yes. 'Veganic Girl Scout Cookies (Platinum Cut)' from Private Stock LA took first place in U.S. Mixed Flowers at the 2013 U.S. Cannabis Cup in Denver. SeedFinder also lists a 2013 Santa Cruz Cup win, which we couldn't verify independently.

What does Platinum Cookies taste like?
Sweet berry and candy up front, then earth, pepper and spice, sometimes with a hint of OG fuel. Leafly's flavor tags are sweet, flowery and earthy.

Leafly reviewers report relaxed, euphoric and happy effects; AllBud adds body high and uplifting, and Benzinga lists hungry and creative. It starts happy and settles into a calm body.
Is Platinum Cookies good for sleep?
