Strawnana Strain

Strawnana Strain: Strawberry Banana by Its Street Name

The Strawnana strain is the short name for Strawberry Banana — a cross of Crockett's Banana Kush and the "Strawberry" phenotype of Serious Seeds' Bubble Gum, released through DNA Genetics' Reserva Privada line. It's one of the best-known fruit strains on the market: ripe strawberry and creamy banana on the nose, a sweetness closer to candy than fresh fruit, and a high that starts happy and creative before settling into the body. Fans of it tend to shop the fruit-forward end of our THCA flower collection.

It's also one of the most confusing names to look up. Strawnana, Strawberry Banana and Strawberry Banana OG usually mean the same cross, but different databases credit different breeders, and at least one retailer lists a different banana parent. Below: what the sources actually say about the lineage, how strong it is, the terpene and flavor profile, how the high unfolds, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at Strawnana's frosty, amber-haired buds.

Strawnana Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Indica-dominant hybrid — about 70% indica / 30% sativa per SeedFinder, AllBud and Weedmaps. Leafly calls it an indica in its description but files it as a hybrid.
  • Ancestry: Crockett's Banana Kush × Serious Seeds' Bubble Gum, "Strawberry" phenotype. Banana Kush itself is usually listed as Ghost OG — an OG Kush phenotype — × Skunk Haze.
  • Breeder: Leafly credits DNA Genetics with Serious Seeds; SeedFinder, Weedmaps and Proper Cannabis credit Reserva Privada with Serious Seeds. Those aren't really in conflict — Leaf Magazine describes Reserva Privada as a seed line created by DNA Genetics founders Don Morris and Aaron Yarkoni to work with outside breeders.
  • THC: Leafly lists 21%; AllBud and Perpetual 21–23%; Silver Stem 22–26%; Weedmaps 20–28%.
  • CBD: Negligible. Leafly lists about 1% CBG.
  • Aliases: Strawberry Banana, STB (Leafly's abbreviation), Strawberry Banana OG (Weedmaps).

Where the strawberry and the banana come from

The banana comes from Banana Kush, whose OG Kush side adds the resin and the earthy weight underneath. The strawberry comes from a specific phenotype of Serious Seeds' Bubble Gum — the cut known as the "Strawberry" pheno. Put together, the cross reads like strawberry-banana candy with a light kush base. Reserva Privada's own breeder description, quoted on SeedFinder, calls it "one of the greatest resin producers we have seen," and Weedmaps notes it became breeding stock for a generation of fruit-forward strains — which is why you'll see Strawnana in so many newer names on dispensary menus.

Lineage conflicts worth knowing

  • Breeder credit: DNA Genetics vs Reserva Privada — the same company's seed line, as above.
  • Banana parent: almost every source says Crockett's Banana Kush. One Florida retailer, Jungle Boys Florida, lists "Banana OG × Bubble Gum." That's the outlier.
  • Name drift: "Strawnana" is also used as a flavor name on vapes, gummies and concentrates. A product called Strawnana isn't always made from this cross — check the label or COA.

Strawnana Terpene Profile

Leafly lists limonene as Strawnana's most abundant terpene, followed by myrcene and caryophyllene. Perpetual Dispensaries lists the same three; Leafwell adds pinene, and Silver Stem adds pinene, ocimene, humulene and fenchol. Terpene maker Abstrax Tech, which publishes measured profiles, reports limonene on top, an unusually high level of ocimene as the most distinctive compound, and sweet esters alongside the terpenes that push the aroma toward candy.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Limonene — bright, sweet citrus-fruit top

Myrcene — musky, ripe-fruit base and body

Caryophyllene — light spice on the exhale

Ocimene — sweet, tropical, slightly floral

Typical relative profile for Strawnana — limonene-led per Leafly. Ocimene shows up high in some lab data (Abstrax) and low in others.

  • Limonene: The bright, sweet top note, and the terpene most associated with the happy, upbeat start.
  • Myrcene: Musky and fruity — the ripe, mango-like base under the banana, and the relaxed body later on.
  • Caryophyllene: A light peppery spice from the kush side; a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
  • Ocimene: Sweet, tropical and slightly floral — a likely reason Strawnana reads as candy rather than plain fruit.

The banana note isn't one terpene. Abstrax points to sweet, fruity esters working alongside the terpenes.

Appearance

Strawnana buds are dense, sticky and frosted. AllBud describes "flat oversized heart-shaped olive green nugs with light undertones, thick amber hairs and a frosty coating." Perpetual Dispensaries describes olive-green nugs with bright orange pistils and a heavy trichome coat; Leafwell notes small-to-medium, tight buds and light green leaves that can show purple spots in cold conditions. The resin is the point — it's a favorite cut for rosin and hash makers.

Aroma and Flavor

True to the name: strawberry and banana, and more candy than smoothie. Abstrax sums it up as "ripe strawberry over creamy banana, with a sweetness that reads closer to fruity candy than fresh produce." Leafly lists strawberry, tree fruit and tropical as its top flavors; one Leafly reviewer compared it to "a strawberry banana soda with like a slight spice and cream finish." AllBud adds citrus, earthy and sour notes on the nose and "hints of bubblegum and banana" on the palate. Leafwell notes a pungent, almost hash-like, spicy smell in some jars.

  • Inhale: sweet strawberry, bright and candy-like.
  • Exhale: creamy banana, bubblegum and tropical fruit, with a light spice and earthy kush finish.
  • Smoke: smooth when well cured. Grinding releases more banana.

Recreational Effects

Strawnana starts happy and ends relaxed. On Leafly, where it rates about 4.5 out of 5 from roughly 750 ratings, the top effects are:

  • Relaxed: the most-reported effect — a steady body calm.
  • Happy: a warm, easy mood lift.
  • Euphoric: a light, giddy front end.
  • Creative and sensory: Leafly's description says it "sharpen[s] creativity and sensory awareness"; AllBud lists creative, focused and uplifting.
  • Sleepy: Leafwell reports sleepiness later in the session, especially at higher doses.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 10–20 minutes: Leafwell describes it as slow-building, so don't judge it on the first five minutes.
  • 20–60 minutes: the peak — happy, talkative and creative per Weedmaps, with the "sensory awareness" Leafly describes.
  • 1–3 hours: the indica side takes over; the body gets heavy and sleep gets easy.

That slow start is the main trap. People take a second hit too soon and land on the couch.

How Strong Is Strawnana?

Above average, but not extreme. Leafly lists 21% THC and calls its potency "higher THC than average." Most sources land in the low-to-mid 20s:

  • Leafly: 21% THC, about 1% CBG.
  • AllBud / Perpetual Dispensaries: 21–23%.
  • Silver Stem: 22–26%.
  • Weedmaps: 20–28%.

Because it's sweet and slow to build, it often feels milder at first than it is. Treat it like the 20-plus-percent strain it is. Is Strawnana good for beginners? In small doses, yes — it's friendlier than most strains in this range — but wait the full 15–20 minutes before a second hit.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Strawnana batch against the 21–26% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Strawnana vs Similar Strains

  • vs Strawberry Banana: the same strain under its full name. Our shorter Strawberry Banana entry covers the basics; this page goes deeper on lineage, potency and growing.
  • vs Banana Kush: the banana parent. Banana Kush is earthier and more OG; Strawnana is sweeter and more candy-like.
  • vs Strawberry Cough: a strawberry sativa — more energetic and heady, with none of the banana or body weight.
  • vs Strawberry Glue: Gorilla Glue #4 × Strawberry Diesel. Same ripe-strawberry top, but gas instead of banana underneath, and a similarly happy-then-relaxed high. It's the closest match on our shelf.
  • vs Strawberry Fields: Strawberry Cough crossed with an undisclosed indica — strawberry without the banana.

Who Strawnana Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: fruit and candy flavor fans, afternoon-into-evening smokers, creative downtime, and people who want a happy high that doesn't race.

Poor fit: gas and diesel chasers, or anyone who needs to stay sharp for hours — the back half gets heavy. For a lighter strawberry option on our shelf, Strawberry 2.1 is the gentler pick.

How to Use Strawnana THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the strawberry and banana separately. Around 350–370°F keeps the candy-fruit top; 390–410°F brings out the kush body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–20 minutes — this one builds slowly. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full happy-then-relaxed arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and in retailer reviews, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 27% of reviewers).
  • Anxiety: about 25% — though "anxious" is also among its reported negatives, so dose matters.
  • Low mood: about 21% of Leafly reviewers.
  • Sleep and appetite: Leafwell lists insomnia and loss of appetite; AllBud adds fatigue and headaches.

For a plain-language primer on how terpenes are thought to shape these effects, see Project CBD on terpenes. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry eyes and dry mouth — the top complaints on Leafly.
  • Anxiety — Leafly's third-most-reported negative, usually from taking too much too fast.
  • Couch-lock and sleepiness — at higher doses the indica side takes over.

Is Strawnana good for sleep? At higher doses, often yes; at low doses it's more of a happy, relaxed afternoon strain. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Strawnana Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Both fruits on the nose. A real Strawnana smells of strawberry and banana. If it's pure earth and kush, it's a weak cut or a mislabel.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Flower, not flavoring. "Strawnana" is also a flavor name on vapes and gummies. For flower, the COA and smell should match the strain.
  • Frost and stickiness. This is a resin strain; dry, dusty buds mean poor storage.
  • A proper cure — the fruit fades fast in a rushed or old bag; hay smell means it was rushed.

Growing Strawnana

Strawnana has a reputation as a forgiving, resin-heavy plant. Reserva Privada describes it as suitable for beginners and experienced growers alike, working across all grow systems.

  • Flowering: about 63 days (9 weeks) per SeedFinder and Weedmaps; Perpetual and Silver Stem say 8–9 weeks; Leafwell 9–10 weeks.
  • Yield: 450–550 g/m² indoors per SeedFinder and Leafly.
  • Height: tall — Leafwell lists 70–90 inches, taller outdoors. Top early; Leafly notes it responds well to topping.
  • Feeding and climate: a medium-to-heavy feeder per Leafly. Leafwell suggests around 50% humidity and roughly 70°F; watch humidity late in flower to prevent mold in the dense buds.
  • Outdoors: harvest from late September to mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere. Cool nights can bring out purple.
  • Recognition: SeedFinder lists a 1st place (Outdoor Hybrid) at the 2018 Santa Cruz Cup for a Strawberry Banana entry by grower Terp Overlord.
