Melted Strawberries Strain

Melted Strawberries Strain: Strawberry Candy Meets GMO Funk

The Melted Strawberries strain is a hybrid from Bloom Seed Co that crosses GMO — the garlicky, gassy "Garlic Cookies" — with Strawberry Guava, Bloom's terpene-loaded fruit strain. The result smells like old-fashioned strawberry candy with a pungent garlic kick, tests strong (dispensary batches have landed above 30% THC), and gives a fast, euphoric, uplifting high that settles into a relaxed body. It sits in the fruit-and-funk corner of our THCA flower collection.

It's also a strain with a short paper trail. Bloom has retired it, the big strain databases list little beyond the cross, and brands label it everything from sativa to indica-dominant. Below: what the sources actually agree on, where they don't, how the high unfolds, what the lab numbers look like, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

Melted Strawberries Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. AllBud and CAMP Cannabis list it 50/50; Strainpedia calls it indica-dominant; Skyworld and Golden Garden sell their versions as sativa. Leafly's users rate it "mostly energizing."
  • Ancestry: GMO × Strawberry Guava. Weedmaps and AllBud name the GMO parent "GMO Cookies" — the same strain.
  • Breeder: Bloom Seed Co, per SeedFinder, Weedmaps and Leaf Magazines. SeedFinder lists it as feminized seeds only.
  • THC: AllBud 24–32%; Rugged Roots 27–31%; CAMP Cannabis about 34% on average. Single batches have tested at 32.5% (River Valley Relief) and 34.77% (Skyworld).
  • CBD: Negligible. Skyworld's batch showed 0.6% CBG.
  • Aliases: Melted Strawberry, MSt.

The parents: garlic and strawberry

GMO — short for garlic, mushroom, onion — is the Chemdog × GSC cross also sold as Garlic Cookies. It's known for savory funk, heavy resin and a strong body. Strawberry Guava is Bloom Seed Co's cross of 14er StrawNana and a rare Papaya cut, per SeedFinder (Leafly credits Oni Seed Co and lists Strawberry Banana × Papaya). It won 1st for Highest Terpenes in a Non-Solvent and 2nd Best Non-Solvent Concentrate at the 2017 Chalice festival. Put them together and you get the name: strawberries "melted" into a hash-friendly, garlic-edged resin plant.

Retired by the breeder, kept alive by growers

According to Leaf Magazines, which named a Northwest Soiltech (Bend, Oregon) cut its Leaf Pick, "Bloom has since retired the variety." Growers who kept clones or seed stock are why it still turns up on menus in Oregon, Missouri, Massachusetts, Maine, Pennsylvania and New York — and why it's often seen as live rosin and badder, not just flower. SeedFinder lists one direct descendant: Melted Sunshine from Sunshine Dream Genetics (Melted Strawberries × Sunshine Hashplant).

Melted Strawberries Terpene Profile

Lab data puts three terpenes on top, but the order changes by grower. CannMenus' average across dispensary COAs lists caryophyllene (1.01%), limonene (0.98%) and myrcene (0.83%), followed by farnesene and humulene (0.41% each). Skyworld's batch was caryophyllene-led too; River Valley Relief's was myrcene-led (0.66%) with limonene (0.63%), then caryophyllene, pinene and linalool. Caryophyllene is worth knowing on its own: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the GMO funk

Limonene — bright, sweet lift

Myrcene — ripe fruit, relaxed body

Humulene — earthy, herbal dryness

Relative profile from CannMenus' COA averages for Melted Strawberries. Individual batches flip the order — some are myrcene- or limonene-led.

  • Caryophyllene: The peppery, spicy edge that carries the GMO side's savory funk, and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
  • Limonene: Bright and sweet; it drives the fast, upbeat onset that most reviewers describe.
  • Myrcene: Ripe-fruit and musky; it gives the relaxed body underneath and pushes the late phase toward the couch at higher doses.
  • Humulene: Earthy and herbal — part of the "spicy herbs" and sage note AllBud picks up.

The garlic isn't a terpene. GMO's savory funk is widely attributed to sulfur compounds rather than terpenes, which is why two batches with similar terpene numbers can smell very different.

Appearance

AllBud describes long, tapered forest-green nugs with yellow-orange hairs, golden undertones and a frosty, golden-white trichome coat. Leaf Magazines notes "strawberry-blond pistils" and a bright look; Rugged Roots describes bright green buds with purple and gold tones. Weedmaps calls the nugs dark green. The common thread is resin — this is a sticky, heavily frosted flower, which is exactly why hash makers like it.

Aroma and Flavor

Open a jar and the strawberry comes first: sweet, candied, almost creamy. Leaf Magazines compares it to "old-fashioned strawberry candy" with a "pungent kick" of garlic, and lists "gooey garlic" in its tasting notes. AllBud gets sweet strawberry with pungent dank and spicy herbs, plus sage; Weedmaps adds earth and faint diesel; Skyworld describes "strawberries-and-cream sweetness, soft diesel fumes, and a hint of garlic." On Leafly, the top flavors are strawberry, chemical and berry.

How much garlic you get depends on the cut. Fruit-forward phenotypes read mostly as strawberry candy with a savory edge; GMO-leaning ones lead with garlic and gas. A few reviewers on AllBud and Leafly describe a "rubber" note they didn't enjoy — worth knowing if you hate funk.

Recreational Effects

Melted Strawberries comes on fast. On Leafly, its 40 ratings average 4.7 out of 5, and reviewers most often report:

  • Euphoric: the headline effect — a quick, strong mood lift.
  • Uplifted and happy: social, giggly and talkative in the first hour.
  • Creative and energetic: Skyworld's listed effects, and why some brands sell it as a sativa.
  • Relaxed: a body calm that builds as the head high fades.

AllBud's description warns that the cerebral onset "can turn psychedelic" at higher doses before a calming body high that can end in couch-lock. CAMP Cannabis describes the opposite end of the range: an uplifting start that mellows into a relaxed state without making you couch-bound. Dose is the difference.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 5–10 minutes: a fast head change — euphoric, bright, sometimes racy.
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak — happy, social, creative, with the body starting to loosen.
  • 1–3 hours: a gradual slide into relaxation. Bigger doses push it toward the couch; AllBud reviewers also call it a "creeper" and "long-lasting."

How Strong Is Melted Strawberries?

Strong. It's one of the higher-testing fruit strains on legal menus:

  • AllBud: 24–32% THC.
  • Strainpedia: 24–29%.
  • Rugged Roots (Maine): 27–31%.
  • CAMP Cannabis (Missouri): about 34% on average.
  • River Valley Relief (batch): 32.5% THC, 34.2% total cannabinoids, 1.9% terpenes.
  • Skyworld (batch): 34.77% THC, 0.6% CBG, 1.7% terpenes.

Those top numbers are single batches, not a strain average — potency varies more between growers than between strain names. But the pattern is clear: well-grown Melted Strawberries is a heavy hitter, and the fast onset means it's easy to overshoot. It's also a known "heavy hasher," so concentrates made from it (live rosin, badder) run far stronger than the flower.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Melted Strawberries batch against the 24–34% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Melted Strawberries vs Similar Strains

  • vs Strawberry Guava: the fruit parent — sweeter, more tropical and candy-like, with no garlic. Melted Strawberries adds GMO's funk, weight and potency.
  • vs GMO: the funk parent — garlic, onion and fuel with a heavy body. Melted Strawberries is much fruitier and more upbeat.
  • vs Strawberry 2.1: a half-sibling — Strawberry Guava crossed with OG Kush Breath 2.1 instead of GMO. Same ripe-strawberry front and uplifting, social lift, with a faint kick of gas instead of garlic. It's the closest match on our shelf.
  • vs Mule Fuel: another GMO cross (with Lurch) — all funk and fuel, indica-leaning and sleepy. The pick if the garlic side is what you're after.
  • vs Garlic Breath: another GMO-family strain. Savory and gassy where Melted Strawberries is sweet first.
  • vs Strawnana: a grandparent through Strawberry Guava — pure strawberry-banana candy, gentler, no funk.

Who Melted Strawberries Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: experienced consumers who want a potent, flavorful afternoon or evening strain; fans of savory-sweet "fruit and funk" profiles; dab and rosin fans.

Poor fit: beginners, anyone prone to THC anxiety (it's among Leafly's top negatives), or someone who dislikes garlicky, rubbery funk. For a gentler strawberry with no garlic, Strawberry 2.1 is the lighter option on our shelf.

How to Use Melted Strawberries THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the strawberry before the garlic takes over. Around 350–380°F keeps the candy-fruit top notes; 390–410°F brings out the GMO funk and the heavier body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one small puff, then wait 15–30 minutes — batches of this strain have tested above 30% THC and it comes on fast. Regular users usually find two or three hits deliver the full arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the most-cited reason on Leafly (36% of reviewers).
  • Low mood: about 33%, consistent with the euphoric, happy headline effects.
  • Anxiety: about 33% report help — but "anxious" is also one of its top negatives, so dose matters.
  • Aches and muscle tension: AllBud lists pain, cramps and muscle spasms among reported uses, tied to the relaxed body phase.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly.
  • Anxiety or racing thoughts — reported especially at high doses or with low tolerance; AllBud warns the onset can turn "psychedelic."
  • Couch-lock — the late phase can get heavy if you keep going.
  • Harsh smoke — River Valley Relief notes its strength and pungency, and suggests people with respiratory sensitivities choose their method carefully.

Is Melted Strawberries good for sleep? Not at first — the opening is euphoric and energizing. A larger evening dose can end in heavy relaxation, but it's not a dedicated sleep strain. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Melted Strawberries Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Strawberry and funk. A real Melted Strawberries has candy-strawberry sweetness with a garlic or gas edge. Pure sweetness with no savory note, or pure garlic with no fruit, suggests a different cut — or a different strain.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC, plus terpenes if possible. Treat 34%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Heavy, greasy frost. This is a resin strain; buds should be sticky and coated, with trichomes inside the bud too.
  • A proper cure — Leaf Magazines praised a "crisp cure." Hay or grass smell means it was rushed.
  • Know it's rare. With the breeder retired, every Melted Strawberries on the market is a kept cut. Ask who grew it.

Growing Melted Strawberries

Melted Strawberries is hard to grow from seed today: SeedFinder lists Bloom's release as feminized-only, and Bloom has since retired it, so most growers run kept clones. Published grow data is thin. The numbers below come from Strainpedia, the only source with a full grow profile, and it cites no breeder data — treat them as estimates.

  • Flowering: about 63–70 days (9–10 weeks). That lines up with SeedFinder's ~67 days for the Strawberry Guava parent.
  • Structure: tall and stretchy, often doubling or tripling in early flower. Top early and use a double trellis.
  • Yield: rated high, with especially strong solventless (ice-water) wash yields — fitting for a GMO × Strawberry Guava cross, both parents being resin plants.
  • Difficulty: intermediate to advanced. Keep late-flower humidity around 40–45% and run carbon filtration — the garlic gets loud.
  • Harvest: when trichome heads are mostly cloudy with a hint of amber. Cooler nights near the end can bring out violet hues.

It's a hybrid. AllBud and CAMP Cannabis list it 50/50, Strainpedia calls it indica-dominant, and some brands sell it as a sativa. Most reviewers describe an energizing, euphoric start that settles into a relaxed body.

What is Melted Strawberries a cross of?

GMO (also called GMO Cookies or Garlic Cookies) × Strawberry Guava, bred by Bloom Seed Co.

Who bred Melted Strawberries?

Bloom Seed Co. According to Leaf Magazines, Bloom has since retired the variety; growers who kept the genetics, such as Northwest Soiltech in Oregon, keep it on the market.

How strong is Melted Strawberries?

Very. AllBud lists 24–32% THC, CAMP Cannabis about 34% on average, and individual batches have tested at 32.5% and 34.77%. It hits fast, so start with one small puff.

What does Melted Strawberries taste like?

Sweet, candied strawberry and cream first, then garlic, spicy herbs and a light diesel finish. Leaf Magazines compares it to old-fashioned strawberry candy with a pungent garlic kick.

Why does Melted Strawberries smell like garlic?

The garlic comes from its GMO parent — GMO stands for garlic, mushroom, onion. The savory funk is widely attributed to sulfur compounds rather than terpenes, so it varies a lot from cut to cut.

What are the effects of Melted Strawberries?

Leafly reviewers most often report euphoric, uplifted and happy effects; Skyworld lists creative and energetic. The body relaxes as the head high fades, and large doses can end in couch-lock.

Is Melted Strawberries good for anxiety?

It's mixed. About 33% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, but 'anxious' is also one of its top negatives. Low doses are the safer approach.

Is Melted Strawberries good for sleep?

Not usually at first — it opens euphoric and energizing. A larger evening dose can turn heavy and relaxing, but it isn't a dedicated sleep strain.

Is Melted Strawberries good for beginners?

Not really. Batches have tested above 30% THC and the onset is fast. If you try it, take one small puff and wait 15–30 minutes.

Why is Melted Strawberries popular for rosin and dabs?

Both parents are heavy resin producers, and Strawberry Guava won top terpene honors in solventless categories at the 2017 Chalice festival. Leaf Magazines calls Melted Strawberries a 'heavy hasher,' and it's widely sold as live rosin and badder.

What strains are similar to Melted Strawberries?

Its parents, Strawberry Guava and GMO; half-siblings Strawberry 2.1 and Straw Gua Mintz (both Strawberry Guava crosses); and GMO-family strains like Mule Fuel and Garlic Breath for the funk side.

Where can I buy Melted Strawberries THCA flower online?

Melted Strawberries isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Strawberry 2.1 THCA Flower — also a Strawberry Guava cross, with a ripe-strawberry front, a faint kick of gas and an uplifting, social high, from $22, third-party lab tested, with free shipping over $75.
