The Soap Strain: The Mints Family's Clean Machine
The Soap strain is a modern mints-family hybrid: Animal Mints crossed with Kush Mints by JBeezy of Seed Junky Genetics, released with Berner's Cookies as the flagship of the Minntz brand. It smells exactly like the name promises — floral, minty and clean, like fresh laundry or good hand soap — and delivers a focused, upbeat high with an easy body underneath. It sits in the dessert-and-mint corner of our THCA flower collection.
It's also constantly mixed up with Zoap, a completely different strain with a similar soapy nose. Below: The Soap's real lineage, why databases can't agree on whether it's indica or sativa, what the potency numbers mean, how the high unfolds, the 26-plus crosses it has spawned, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at The Soap's frosty buds.

- Type: Hybrid — and one of the most inconsistently classified strains around. Weedmaps lists it as sativa; Mission Dispensaries and Rugged Roots call it sativa-dominant; SeedFinder's basic info says "mostly indica"; a GreenState review of a Washington cut called it indica-dominant; Leafly simply says hybrid. Reported effects (focused, energetic) read sativa-leaning.
- Ancestry: Animal Mints × Kush Mints. Weedmaps specifies the #9 and #11 selections of those parents.
- Deeper roots: Animal Mints is commonly listed as Animal Cookies × SinMint Cookies; Kush Mints is Animal Mints × Bubba Kush. That makes The Soap heavily Animal Mints-dominant — a Cookies-family plant with a Bubba Kush accent. Westword calls it "backcrossed" for that reason.
- Breeder: Seed Junky Genetics with Berner's Cookies, credited on Leafly and SeedFinder.
- THC: Leafly shows 24% in its header and 19% in its description; Mission Dispensaries about 24%; Rugged Roots 23–26%; Weedmaps 25–30%.
- CBD: Negligible. Leafly and Mission Dispensaries list about 1% CBG.
- Aliases: Soap, The Soap (Minntz). Breeders crossing it often name the "J Beezy cut."
The origin story
The Soap came out of the late-2010s mints craze. Rugged Roots dates it to around 2018 and says JBeezy bred it in collaboration with Berner, the founder of Cookies; it became the flagship strain of Minntz, the Seed Junky–Cookies mints line. SeedFinder and Rugged Roots both say it debuted at the Emerald Cup, though SeedFinder gives the year as 2018 in one place and 2019 in another — and we found no record of it winning an award there, so treat "Emerald Cup strain" as a debut, not a trophy.
The name is literal. The Soap smells clean — floral, minty, a little perfumy — the way a bar of good soap does. Westword's reviewer put it another way: a strain known for "scrubbing brains," washing stress out.
The Soap vs Zoap: not the same strain
Leafly opens its entry with "not to be confused with Zoap," and for good reason. Zoap is DEO Farms' Pink Guava × RS-11 (a Rainbow Sherbet line), a clone-only cut with a soapy, fruity nose. The Soap is Seed Junky's Animal Mints × Kush Mints. Similar names, a shared "soap" note, completely different families. You'll also see "Gypsy Soap" — StrainGuide lists it with the same Animal Mints × Kush Mints genetics, so it may be a renamed cut — and "Jabon" from Shuga Seeds, which is unrelated.
The Soap family: 26+ crosses
The Soap became a go-to breeding parent. SeedFinder counts 26 direct descendants, including:
- Bubble Bath (Lit Farms): The Soap × Project 4516.
- Black Soap (Lit Farms): The Soap × Permanent Marker.
- Bath Saltz (Lit Farms): The Soap × Runtz.
- Dirty Deeds (Raw Genetics): Gary Payton × The Soap.
- Fruit Bubbles (Nasha Genetics): The Soap × Apples and Bananas.
- The Soap × Zsunami (Pagoda Seeds), built on "The Soap (J Beezy Cut)."
Leafly also lists French Laundry among its offspring.
The Soap Terpene Profile
Leafly lists caryophyllene as The Soap's dominant terpene, followed by limonene and linalool; Mission Dispensaries adds humulene, and Rugged Roots puts pinene in the top three. JointCommerce's lab-range summary puts limonene first (0.5–1.2%), then caryophyllene (0.3–0.8%) and linalool (0.15–0.45%), with total terpenes around 1.5–3%. Linalool is the floral, lavender-like terpene — and a big reason this strain smells "clean." Caryophyllene matters in its own right: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Caryophyllene — pepper, the cookie-and-kush backbone
Limonene — bright citrus lift
Linalool — floral, the 'soap' and rose
Humulene — woody, earthy
Pinene — pine, alertness
Typical relative profile for The Soap — caryophyllene-led per Leafly. Some lab ranges put limonene on top; linalool is what makes it smell like soap.
- Caryophyllene: The peppery backbone shared across the Cookies and mints families, and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
- Limonene: Citrus brightness and part of the upbeat, energetic onset reviewers describe.
- Linalool: Floral and lavender-like — the core of the rose, perfume and fresh-laundry notes.
- Humulene: Woody and earthy; it keeps the profile from tipping into pure perfume.
- Pinene: Fresh pine, and part of why The Soap reads clear rather than foggy.
The mint isn't a single terpene — it's the mints-family chemistry from both parents, the same cool exhale you'll find in Kush Mints and Gush Mints.
Appearance
The Soap grows dense, tightly packed lime-green buds threaded with orange pistils and buried under a heavy coat of trichomes. Many cuts show purple hues; Westword noted occasional light-blue and purple spots, and Weedmaps says pistils can deepen toward purple. Westword also found the buds longer than the average hybrid. A Washington cut reviewed by GreenState was mostly berry-purple with rounded, bulbous calyxes — a reminder that phenotypes and growers vary.
Aroma and Flavor
Crack a jar and the first impression is clean: floral, rose-like perfume and cool mint, with pine behind it — the "fresh laundry" note that gave the strain its name. Break a bud and earthier notes come up. Leafly's top flavors are rose, mint and tea; Rugged Roots describes a smooth, lightly sweet floral inhale with a crisp, clean exhale and a faint vanilla note. Not every cut is that pretty: Westword's Colorado sample was dominated by cheese, mint and pine — "dry and savory rather than sweet" — with citrus and rubber on the flavor, while GreenState's Washington cut read camphor and pineapple. Weedmaps adds cream, cake and herbal spice. If it smells like soap and mint, you're in the right family.
Recreational Effects
The Soap is a clear-headed hybrid. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.6 rating across 161 reviews, the most-reported effects are:
- Focused: the standout — a sharp, task-friendly headspace.
- Energetic: Leafly calls the effects "mostly energizing."
- Aroused: Leafly's top-listed effect, and a fixture in reviews.
- Euphoric and creative: Westword describes "strong mental relief and euphoria" and a creative, stimulating high.
- Relaxed: a light body ease that rarely becomes couch-lock — though GreenState's indica-leaning cut was mostly body.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First few minutes: a bright, mood-lifting head change.
- 20–30 minutes: the peak — focused, upbeat and social, with tension easing out of the shoulders.
- 1–2 hours: a plateau and a gentle comedown. Westword called it "surprisingly manageable" for a potent strain.
Larger doses turn heavier and foggier — Westword's reviewer hit a foggy wall on the third bowl.

How Strong Is The Soap?
The Soap is potent but not a record-chaser. The numbers vary by source and grower:
- Leafly: 24% in the header, 19% in its description — the page contradicts itself.
- Mission Dispensaries: about 24% on average, sometimes higher.
- Rugged Roots: 23–26%.
- Weedmaps: 25–30%.
- JointCommerce: 18–26%, with most commercial batches at 20–24%.
Realistically, a good jar lands in the low-to-mid 20s, with standout batches higher. It's stronger than its smooth, perfumy smoke suggests, so new users should go slow. Its parent Kush Mints often tests higher.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a The Soap batch against the 19–30% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
The Soap vs Similar Strains
- vs Zoap: the name everyone confuses. Zoap is Pink Guava × RS-11 — fruitier, sherbet-sweet and balanced. The Soap is mintier, more floral and more focused.
- vs Kush Mints: the parent with the Bubba Kush weight. Kush Mints is gassier and heavier; The Soap is cleaner and more clear-headed.
- vs Animal Mints: the dominant parent — sweet cookie and mint with a relaxed finish. The Soap keeps the mint and adds the floral, soapy top note.
- vs Cake Mints: another mints-family hybrid, and a popular head-to-head on Reddit. If you like one, the other is worth trying; The Soap is the one known for the clean, floral nose.
- vs Gush Mints and Fritter Mintz: Fritter Mintz is Apple Fritter × Kush Mints and Gush Mints is another mints-family cross. Both lean sweeter and more dessert-like; The Soap is the clean, perfumy one.
- vs Straw Gua Mintz: our closest in-stock match — a sativa-leaning Strawberry Guava × Kush Mints cross that shares The Soap's Kush Mints parent and cool mint exhale. Honest caveat: it's fruit-forward (strawberry, guava, banana), not soapy. If you want the clean mint more than the fruit, our GovernMint Oasis live rosin is the minty option in our lineup.
Who The Soap Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: daytime smokers who want focus and a mood lift without a heavy body; creative work and social sessions; anyone who likes floral, minty, "clean" profiles more than gas or candy.
Poor fit: people looking for a sleep strain, or anyone prone to THC anxiety at high doses — "anxious" and "paranoid" are among Leafly's top negatives. For a gentler, fruitier daytime option, Dayglow Mousse is on our shelf.
How to Use The Soap THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the florals and mint. Around 350–380°F keeps the linalool and limonene bright; 390–410°F brings out the peppery cookie base.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–20 minutes. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the full focused arc — past that, it gets foggy. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Anxiety: the most-cited use in Leafly reviews (about 29%) — though "anxious" is also a top negative, so dose matters.
- Low mood: about 22% of reviewers, consistent with its euphoric, uplifting reputation.
- Stress: about 20% — the "scrubbing brains" effect Westword described.
- Mild aches and tension: Mission Dispensaries and JointCommerce note anecdotal reports, though heavier strains are usually preferred for that.

Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.
Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth — Leafly's second-most-reported negative; Westword called the cottonmouth "harsher than average."
- Anxiety or paranoia — both in Leafly's top negatives, especially at high doses.
- Brain fog — from overdoing it; the focused high flips at higher doses.
- Dry eyes or dizziness — occasionally reported, sometimes when combined with caffeine.
Is The Soap good for sleep? Not usually — it's more focused than sedating. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is The Soap a Good Strain? How to Judge a Good Bag
Yes — The Soap earned its reputation as a breeding parent and a 4.6-rated Leafly favorite. But hype names attract imitators, so check:
- It's The Soap, not Zoap. Ask for the lineage: Animal Mints × Kush Mints. Pink Guava or sherbet genetics means you've got Zoap.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
- The nose. Floral, minty and clean. Pure gas or pure candy suggests a different cut.
- Frost and density, with trichomes inside the bud, not just on top.
- A proper cure — hay or grass smell means it was rushed, and it kills the delicate florals first.
Growing The Soap
The Soap circulates mostly as clones; SeedFinder says it "is/was never available as feminized seeds" from the breeder, and Weedmaps warns seed buyers to check whether seeds are reproductions, selfed lines or crosses. Published grow data is thin, but here's what's out there:
- Flowering: about 8–9 weeks (SeedFinder, Mission Dispensaries); Weedmaps says 8–10.
- Outdoors: harvest around mid-October in the Northern Hemisphere, per Weedmaps.
- Structure: a branching hybrid that stretches noticeably in flower, with medium internodes and dense stacking. Top or train early.
- Yield: one GrowDiaries grower logged 377 g per plant and called it a "beast of a plant"; GreenState cites about one pound per meter.
- Climate: Mission Dispensaries reports it's relatively easy and prefers warm, humid conditions.
Is The Soap THCA Flower Legal?
Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is federally legal when it contains no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis — see the USDA hemp program. THCA flower is sold under that rule. State laws differ and are changing, so check your state before you order. And whatever the label says, THCA flower will show up on a drug test — heated, it is THC.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is The Soap a sativa or indica strain?
The Soap is a hybrid, and sources disagree on the lean: Weedmaps lists it as sativa, Mission Dispensaries and Rugged Roots call it sativa-dominant, SeedFinder says mostly indica, and Leafly says hybrid. Its most-reported effects — focused, energetic, uplifted — read sativa-leaning, so most people use it during the day.
What is the lineage of The Soap strain?
Animal Mints × Kush Mints. Since Kush Mints is itself Animal Mints × Bubba Kush, The Soap is heavily Animal Mints-dominant — a Cookies-family plant with a Bubba Kush accent.
Who bred The Soap?
JBeezy of Seed Junky Genetics, in collaboration with Berner's Cookies. It launched as the flagship strain of Minntz, the Seed Junky–Cookies mints line.
Is The Soap the same as Zoap?
No. Zoap is DEO Farms' Pink Guava × RS-11, a clone-only sherbet-family strain. The Soap is Seed Junky's Animal Mints × Kush Mints. Both have a soapy nose, which is why they get confused.
Is The Soap a good strain?
Yes — it holds a 4.6 rating across 161 Leafly reviews and has become a sought-after breeding parent with 26-plus crosses. It's best for daytime focus and mood; it's not a sleep strain.
How strong is The Soap?
Most batches land between 19% and 26% THC, with Weedmaps listing up to 30%. It's smoother than its potency suggests, so start with one or two small hits.
Why is it called The Soap?
Because it smells clean — floral, minty and perfumy, like good hand soap or fresh laundry. Westword also joked that it's known for 'scrubbing brains' of stress.
What does The Soap taste like?
Floral and rose-like, with mint, pine and a light tea note on Leafly. Some cuts lean savory, with cheese, mint and pine, and a few show citrus or camphor on the exhale.
What are The Soap's effects?
Leafly reviewers report focused, energetic and aroused effects, with euphoria and light body relaxation. At high doses it can turn foggy.
Is The Soap good for anxiety?
It's mixed. About 29% of Leafly reviewers say it helps with anxiety, but 'anxious' and 'paranoid' are also among its top negatives. Low doses are the safer approach.
What strains are made from The Soap?
SeedFinder lists 26 direct descendants, including Bubble Bath (× Project 4516), Black Soap (× Permanent Marker), Bath Saltz (× Runtz), Dirty Deeds (Gary Payton × The Soap) and Fruit Bubbles (× Apples & Bananas).
How long does The Soap take to flower?
About 8–9 weeks indoors per SeedFinder (Weedmaps says 8–10), with outdoor harvests around mid-October. It stretches in flower, so train it early.
Where can I buy The Soap THCA flower online?
The Soap isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Straw Gua Mintz THCA Flower — a sativa-leaning Strawberry Guava × Kush Mints cross that shares The Soap's Kush Mints parent and cool mint exhale, though it's fruitier and less soapy.
