Dirty Sprite Strain: Lemon-Lime Soda With a Creamy, Gassy Twist
The Dirty Sprite strain is a modern California hybrid credited to Black Leaf, built around one unmistakable note: lemon-lime soda. Crack a jar and you get bright citrus zest and candy sweetness, then a creamy, syrupy depth and a faint edge of gas. The high usually starts euphoric and social, then settles into a calm, relaxed body. It sits in the citrus-dessert corner of our THCA flower collection, next to strains like Lemon Cherry Gelato and Lemon Tree.
It's also one of the most confusing names on dispensary menus. The breeder never published the parents, so at least five different lineages are in circulation, and a similarly named strain — Dirty Sprite Breath — tops Google for the same search. Below: what's actually documented, which claims come from where, how Dirty Sprite compares with Dirty Sprite Breath, what the potency numbers mean, how the high unfolds, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

- Type: Hybrid. SeedFinder lists Black Leaf's Dirty Sprite as "mostly indica"; dispensary guides from Silverstem and The Library describe it as a balanced hybrid with an uplifting start.
- Breeder: Black Leaf, California, per SeedFinder, which says the genetics are kept secret and lists the parent only as "Unknown Mostly Indica."
- THC: 17–22% per Silverstem; 20–26% per The Library NJ; JointCommerce cites posted COAs from 2020–2024 at roughly 20–28% THCA and 22–30% total cannabinoids.
- CBD: Negligible — under 1%, usually under 0.5%.
- Aliases: DS and Dirty Sprite OG (per JointCommerce).
Five lineages, no confirmation
Because Black Leaf kept the cross private, different sellers have filled in the blanks — and they don't agree. Here's every version we found and who claims it:
- Unknown, mostly indica — SeedFinder, crediting Black Leaf. This is the only listing tied to the breeder.
- Lemon Tree × unknown — The Library, a New Jersey dispensary.
- Unicorn Poop × Runtz — Silverstem Cannabis.
- Sprite OG × White Runtz — the Rec Roots cut sold in New York, per Happy Times Cannabis.
- A lemon line × a dessert hybrid — JointCommerce's summary of community theories: Lemon Tree, Lemon Skunk or The Lemonade crossed with Gelato or a Cookies derivative, or a "Sprite" OG phenotype crossed with a modern dessert strain.
The honest read: several different cuts are sold as Dirty Sprite, and the jar you find depends on who grew it. What they share is the profile — lemon-lime, sweet, a little creamy, limonene-led — which is why the name stuck.
Dirty Sprite vs Dirty Sprite Breath
They're not the same strain. Leafly lists Dirty Sprite Breath as a Pheno Addicts cross of Mendo Breath × Lemon Tree at 22% THC, with myrcene as the top terpene and "mostly energizing" effects; AllBud gives the same parents and calls it 50/50. JointCommerce instead describes Dirty Sprite Breath as a Dirty Sprite mother crossed with a Breath-line male — a different story from Leafly's. Either way, Breath versions lean more toward tea, peach and pine, while plain Dirty Sprite is sold on its soda-candy lemon-lime. Also separate: Zprite and Dirty Zprite, which turn up on some menus under similar names.
Where the name comes from
"Dirty Sprite" is hip-hop slang for lean, the codeine-and-soda drink — The Library NJ says that's the reference. The strain has nothing to do with the drink beyond the name and the lemon-lime nose. There's no codeine in cannabis, and mixing cannabis with alcohol, opioids or other sedatives is a bad idea.
Dirty Sprite Terpene Profile
Every source we checked puts limonene first — that's the lemon-lime soda. Behind it, The Library lists caryophyllene and myrcene; Silverstem lists caryophyllene and humulene; the Rec Roots cut is described as limonene and linalool with unusually high ocimene. JointCommerce reports total terpenes of about 1.8–3.6% by weight in well-grown batches, with limonene around 0.6–1.2%. Caryophyllene matters beyond flavor: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Limonene — lemon-lime soda, mood lift
Caryophyllene — pepper and a light gas edge
Myrcene — earthy sweetness, relaxed body
Linalool — floral-lavender lift, calm
Typical relative profile for Dirty Sprite — limonene-led across sources. Rec Roots' cut reads more linalool and ocimene; other cuts more caryophyllene and humulene.
- Limonene: The headline terpene — sharp lemon-lime zest and the bright, euphoric front end of the high.
- Caryophyllene: Peppery and warm; it keeps the profile from tasting like pure candy and adds the faint gas on the exhale.
- Myrcene: Earthy and sweet; it's behind the relaxed body that arrives in the second half.
- Linalool: A floral, lavender-like note that softens the citrus and adds calm.
The "soda" isn't one terpene — it's limonene's citrus riding on a sweet, creamy base, which is why so many lineage theories point to a lemon parent and a dessert parent.
Appearance
Dirty Sprite usually grows medium-sized, chunky, dense buds with high calyx density and little sugar leaf. Colors run olive to forest green with lime highlights, and many cuts show purple streaks — SeedFinder attributes those to cooler temperatures late in flower. Pistils run golden to orange-tangerine, and the trichome coat is heavy: Happy Times describes a "golden trichome coating" on the Rec Roots cut. Well-cured buds feel springy and sticky, a sign of real resin.
Aroma and Flavor
The nose is the whole point. Open the jar and you get a rush of lemon-lime zest, like grated peel mixed with soda candy, followed by a sweet, syrupy, slightly creamy depth. Break a bud and a peppery, faintly gassy note comes forward. The Library sums it up as "lemon, sweet, gas"; SeedFinder calls Black Leaf's aroma floral and sweet with a more earthy smoke; Silverstem describes it as earthy and fruity with a hint of citrus.
On the inhale it's lemon-lime over sweet cream — JointCommerce compares it to a citrus sherbet float. The exhale turns candied and a little floral, with pepper and a trace of fuel.
Recreational Effects
Dirty Sprite is a two-stage high: an uplifting, clear-headed start, then a body-relaxing settle without heavy sedation for most people. Reported effects across Silverstem, The Library and JointCommerce:
- Euphoric: the most consistent report — a quick mood lift.
- Social and giggly: chatty, easygoing energy in the first hour.
- Creative: ideas flow at low to moderate doses.
- Relaxed: a calm body that deepens as the high goes on.
- Hungry: AllBud users report the munchies on the related Breath cross.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- 0–10 minutes: a quick head change with early body relaxation.
- 15–45 minutes: the peak — euphoric and mentally engaged, physically loose.
- 1–2.5 hours: a plateau that turns calmer.
- 2.5–3.5 hours: a gradual comedown. At high doses, expect more couch and some fog.
That's The Library's general timeline for inhaled hybrid flower; JointCommerce gives a similar 2–4 hours.
Dirty Sprite's sticky, resin-heavy buds go into a matte-gold grinder for an even burn.

How Strong Is Dirty Sprite?
Strong, but not record-breaking. The numbers depend on which cut and who's reporting:
- Silverstem: 17–22% THC — "moderate to high."
- The Library NJ: 20–26% THC — "high potency."
- JointCommerce (posted COAs, 2020–2024): about 20–28% THCA, 22–30% total cannabinoids, with trace CBG and CBC.
- Dirty Sprite Breath (Leafly, AllBud): 22% THC.
So a typical well-grown jar lands in the low-to-mid 20s. That's plenty for most people. As always, potency varies more by grower and batch than by name, and terpenes shape how strong a strain feels as much as the THC number does.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Dirty Sprite batch against the 17–28% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Dirty Sprite vs Similar Strains
- vs Lemon Tree: the most-cited parent. Lemon Tree (Lemon Skunk × Sour Diesel) is sour lemon and diesel; Dirty Sprite is sweeter and creamier.
- vs Mendo Breath: the other half of Dirty Sprite Breath — a heavy, sweet, caramel-vanilla indica. Breath crosses run earthier and sleepier.
- vs Runtz and White Runtz: named as parents in two of the lineage stories. Runtz brings fruity candy; Dirty Sprite swaps it for lemon-lime.
- vs Unicorn Poop: Silverstem's other listed parent — sweet, sugary and colorful, with a similar happy-then-relaxed arc.
- vs Lemon Cherry Gelato: the closest match on our shelf. Same bright lemon over a creamy Gelato-family base, same happy start and relaxed finish. It adds cherry and runs a little heavier.
Who Dirty Sprite Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: citrus lovers, social sessions, late-afternoon or evening use, and people who want a mood lift without being glued to the couch.
Poor fit: brand-new users at full dose, anyone needing sharp focus for hours, or someone looking for a knockout sleep strain. For a brighter, more daytime citrus on our shelf, Dayglow Mousse is the lighter option; for a sweet, gentler fruit profile, Strawberry 2.1.
How to Use Dirty Sprite THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the lemon-lime. Around 350–380°F keeps the limonene and linalool bright; 390–410°F brings out the peppery caryophyllene and the body effect.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–30 minutes. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full euphoric-then-relaxed arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report, not established clinical outcomes. There's no dedicated Leafly listing for plain Dirty Sprite, so most of these numbers come from the closely related Dirty Sprite Breath. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Stress and low mood: the most common reasons people reach for it, per Silverstem and The Library — consistent with a limonene-led, euphoric strain.
- Anxiety: 43% of Leafly reviewers on Dirty Sprite Breath say it helps — but THC can also trigger anxiety at high doses, so go low.
- Depression and PTSD-related symptoms: 36% and 23% of Leafly's Dirty Sprite Breath reviewers.
- Appetite and tension: AllBud lists appetite loss, nausea and chronic pain among reported uses for the Breath cross.

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints. Drink water.
- Dizziness — listed by both The Library and Leafly, usually from too much too fast.
- Anxiety or a racing heart — THC can briefly raise heart rate and spark anxiety at high doses.
- Short-term memory fog and sedation — more likely at heavy doses as the body side takes over.
Is Dirty Sprite good for sleep? Only at higher doses, late in the session — it's more relaxing than sedating. Don't drive after using it, don't mix it with alcohol or other depressants, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Dirty Sprite Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Ask whose cut it is. Black Leaf, Rec Roots and others sell different versions under the name. A good seller knows.
- Don't accept Dirty Sprite Breath as a substitute without knowing it. It's a different, more myrcene-led cross.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC — and ideally a terpene panel showing limonene on top. Ours are on the lab results page.
- Lemon-lime you can smell through the bag. If it smells like hay or plain earth, the terpenes are gone.
- Dense, sticky, frosty buds, springy rather than crumbly, with trichomes all the way through.
Growing Dirty Sprite
SeedFinder lists Black Leaf's Dirty Sprite as a feminized, indoor-and-outdoor strain. Silverstem calls it medium height and manageable for growers with moderate experience. Grow details are thin, so these figures come from JointCommerce's grow guide and the related Breath cross:
- Flowering: about 8–9 weeks indoors; some growers take it at 63–67 days for a brighter, more energetic expression (JointCommerce). GrowDiaries lists 59 days for Dirty Sprite Breath.
- Yield: 450–600 g/m² under optimized LED, per JointCommerce; GrowDiaries lists about 475 g/m² for the Breath cross.
- Structure: medium vigor with a strong central cola. Top it and use low-stress training to even the canopy.
- Climate: 24–28°C days, 18–22°C nights, with humidity dropping to 40–45% in late flower to protect the dense buds from mold. Cooler late-flower nights bring out the purple.
- Pests: watch for spider mites, thrips, powdery mildew and bud rot.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Dirty Sprite indica or sativa?
Dirty Sprite is a hybrid. SeedFinder lists Black Leaf's original as mostly indica, while dispensary guides describe a balanced hybrid with an uplifting start and a relaxed finish. Most people use it in the late afternoon or evening.
What is Dirty Sprite a cross of?
Nobody outside the breeder knows for sure. Black Leaf kept the genetics secret. Sellers list Lemon Tree × unknown, Unicorn Poop × Runtz, Sprite OG × White Runtz (the Rec Roots cut), or a lemon strain crossed with Gelato or Cookies.
Who bred Dirty Sprite?
SeedFinder credits Black Leaf, a California breeder. Other producers, such as Rec Roots in New York, sell their own Dirty Sprite cuts.
Is Dirty Sprite the same as Dirty Sprite Breath?
No. Dirty Sprite Breath is a separate Pheno Addicts strain, listed by Leafly and AllBud as Mendo Breath × Lemon Tree at about 22% THC. It shares the lemon-lime notes but leans more toward tea, peach and pine.
How strong is Dirty Sprite?
Usually 17–26% THC depending on the source, and posted COAs reach about 28% THCA. That's strong enough that new users should start with one or two small puffs.
What does Dirty Sprite taste like?
Lemon-lime soda over sweet cream, with candy, a little floral lift and a peppery, faintly gassy exhale.
What are the effects of Dirty Sprite?
Consumers report a euphoric, social, sometimes creative start that settles into a relaxed body high, lasting about 2–3.5 hours when smoked.
What terpenes are in Dirty Sprite?
Limonene leads. Caryophyllene, myrcene, humulene and linalool follow, depending on the cut; the Rec Roots version is reported high in ocimene.
Is Dirty Sprite a good strain?
For citrus lovers who want a happy, social high that winds down into relaxation, yes — it's a well-liked, flavor-first hybrid. Quality depends on the grower, so check the COA and the smell.
Why is it called Dirty Sprite?
It's named for its lemon-lime soda aroma and borrows hip-hop slang for lean, the codeine-and-soda drink. The strain contains no codeine — it's just a name.
Is Dirty Sprite good for sleep?
Not really at low doses — it's more euphoric and relaxing than sedating. Larger doses later in the evening can turn heavy.
Where can I buy Dirty Sprite THCA flower online?
Dirty Sprite isn't in the Diesel Hemp shop right now. The closest match is Lemon Cherry Gelato THCA Flower — bright lemon over a creamy Gelato-family base with a happy start and a relaxed finish, ½oz for $69 (low stock), third-party lab tested, with free shipping over $75.
