Dulce de Uva Strain

Dulce de Uva Strain: Bloom Seed Co's Grape Candy Hybrid

The Dulce de Uva strain — Spanish for "sweet grape" — is a hybrid from Bloom Seed Co with a reputation as one of the grapiest strains you can buy. Open a jar and you get grape candy and vanilla first, then rubber, skunk and a little spice underneath. The high starts happy and giggly and settles into a calm, relaxed body without flattening you at sensible doses. It's also the parent of Black Maple, and it sits in the sweet dessert corner of our THCA flower collection.

It's a strain with a messy paper trail. Two different lineages circulate, the sources disagree on how indica it is, and even the dominant terpene depends on who you ask. Below: what each source actually says about its genetics, the terpene profile behind the grape, how the high unfolds, how strong it really is, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at Dulce de Uva's frosty buds.

Quick Facts

In short: A Bloom Seed Co hybrid that smells like grape candy and vanilla over rubber and skunk — a fast, happy, giggly lift that settles into calm, functional body relaxation at moderate doses and real heaviness at high ones.

Dulce de Uva Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. AllBud lists it as 70% indica / 30% sativa; a JointCommerce guide estimates closer to 55/45; Leafly and most dispensary pages simply call it a hybrid.
  • Breeder: Bloom Seed Co, the breeder also behind Black Maple — credited on Leafly and SeedFinder.
  • Ancestry: Disputed — see below.
  • THC: Leafly lists 24%; AllBud 21–25% (one reviewer reported about 28%); growing guides 20–25%.
  • CBD: Negligible — typically under 1%.
  • Aliases: "Dulce," Dulce De Uva (Grape Cream Cake cut); Leafly abbreviates it "Dul."
  • Offspring: SeedFinder lists around ten descendants, including Black Maple (Dulce de Uva × Sherbanger), Dulce BX, Dulce Dreams, Grape Rips and Uvaz. Leafly also lists Dulce De Freak.

Which lineage is right?

Two family trees circulate, and Leafly prints both side by side:

  • Grape Cream Cake cut: SeedFinder lists Dulce de Uva as probably a selection from Grape Cream Cake — Ice Cream Cake × (Grape Pie × Wedding Crasher). Grape Pie is Cherry Pie × Grape Stomper; Wedding Crasher is Wedding Cake × Purple Punch; Ice Cream Cake is Wedding Cake × Gelato 33. A Missouri grower, Proper Cannabis, lists the same cross.
  • Grape Pie × OG Kush: AllBud lists this, Leafly's genetics graphic shows OG Kush and Grape Pie as parents, and at least one multistate brand sells its Dulce de Uva labeled Grape Pie × OG Kush.

Our read: the Grape Cream Cake version has the stronger documentation. Denver's alt-weekly Westword says the strain "is believed to be a phenotype of Grape Cream Cake, though some accounts include Grape Pie and OG Kush," and that every Colorado version its reviewer had seen was Bloom's Grape Cream Cake cut. Both trees share Grape Pie — which is where the grape comes from either way. A growing guide that names Grape Ape or Purple Punch as a parent isn't supported by any breeder or strain database we checked.

Why it's called Dulce de Uva

The name is literal: "dulce de uva" is Spanish for "sweet grape" or "grape candy," and that's exactly what the nose delivers. Leafly calls its flavor "grape-candy-like" with a hint of vanilla, and AllBud describes it as "one of the 'grapiest' strains you'll ever try."

Dulce de Uva Terpene Profile

The sources agree on the three main terpenes but not the order. Leafly lists limonene first, then caryophyllene and myrcene; Proper Cannabis and a JointCommerce guide put myrcene on top; one dispensary write-up names myrcene and pinene. That spread is normal for a strain grown by many different farms — the batch matters more than the name. Caryophyllene stands out in any version: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Limonene — sweet candy lift, the happy onset

Myrcene — ripe grape, earthy, relaxed body

Caryophyllene — spice, pepper, the rubbery edge

Pinene — herbal freshness

Typical relative profile for Dulce de Uva — Leafly ranks limonene first; several growers report myrcene on top. Check the batch COA if terpenes are listed.

  • Limonene: Bright and sugary; it carries the candy top note and the giggly, euphoric first lift.
  • Myrcene: Earthy and fruity; it deepens the ripe-grape character and gives the body its calm.
  • Caryophyllene: Peppery spice — behind the rubber-and-spice edge reviewers pick up under the grape.
  • Pinene: A minor herbal note in some batches that keeps the high from getting foggy at low doses.

The grape itself isn't one terpene. It's the Grape Pie side's overall chemistry — the same Grape Stomper sweetness that runs through a lot of modern purple strains — layered over the vanilla and cream of the cake genetics.

Appearance

Westword's reviewer described Dulce de Uva as looking like "frozen grapes": dense, mitten-shaped buds with forest-green calyxes, dark purple sugar leaves and heavy frost, with sparse pistils. AllBud describes a different look — "long and fluffy pepper-shaped blue-green nugs with thin orange hairs" — which fits the idea that more than one cut is sold under the name. Most growers' photos show deep green buds flashing purple under a thick trichome coat, the kind of resin that has made it a favorite for rosin.

Aroma and Flavor

The nose is grape first: grape candy, berries and a sugary vanilla, with rubber, skunk and spice behind it. Westword picked up cinnamon and vanilla on the back end; AllBud compares the smell to sour grape candy and caramel cookies. Leafly's flavor tags are grape, vanilla and diesel.

The smoke doesn't always match the jar. Westword found the flavor "skunkier than expected," with nutty, spicy notes up front, fruit in a supporting role and a zesty, hash-like aftertaste. Proper Cannabis lists berries, spice and skunk on the palate. Expect the grape to come through most clearly on a clean glass piece or a vaporizer at low temperature.

Recreational Effects

Dulce de Uva reads as a balanced, mostly calming hybrid. On Leafly, where it was a Strain of the Year 2025 nominee with a 4.6 rating, the top-reported effects are:

  • Relaxed: the headline effect — a calm body that doesn't immediately pin you to the couch.
  • Giggly: a light, silly mood lift, especially in company.
  • Euphoric: a happy, upbeat head that AllBud describes as "lifted, unfocused happiness."
  • Aroused and tingly: AllBud reviewers call it "calming yet arousing," with a physical tingle.

Westword's reviewer found it "mentally stimulating and physically relaxing" at moderate doses — two or fewer bong rips eased stress without heaviness — but more than that left them overly stoned and disoriented. "Respect the power here," was the verdict. Some AllBud reviewers report hours of couchlock at high doses.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First 5–10 minutes: a happy, giggly lift behind the eyes.
  • 15–60 minutes: the peak — euphoric and social, with the body loosening up.
  • 1–3 hours: a slow settle into calm. At higher doses it turns heavy and sleepy.

The dose decides which Dulce de Uva you get: light and social at a hit or two, sedating if you keep going.

How Strong Is Dulce de Uva?

Dulce de Uva is above average but not a record-setter. The published numbers:

  • Leafly: 24% THC, described as higher than average.
  • AllBud: 21–25% on average, with one reviewer reporting about 28%.
  • Growing guides: 20–25%, depending on grower and conditions.
  • JointCommerce: 18–24%.

So it's solidly potent, and reviewers consistently say it hits harder than its sweet flavor suggests. Lab numbers vary more between farms and batches than between strain names, so the COA for the specific batch matters more than any database average.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Dulce de Uva batch against the 20–25% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Dulce de Uva vs Similar Strains

  • vs Black Maple: its child (Dulce de Uva × Sherbanger). Black Maple adds pepper, gas and more potency, and turns heavier. Dulce is sweeter and lighter.
  • vs Grape Ape: the classic grape indica. Grape Ape is earthier and more sedating; Dulce is candier with more vanilla and a happier head.
  • vs Purple Punch: in the Grape Cream Cake family tree via Wedding Crasher. Grape-candy sweet and sleepy, without Dulce's rubber and skunk edge.
  • vs Modified Grapes and Grape Gas: grape over garlic or fuel. Both are gassier and heavier; Dulce leans dessert.
  • vs Ice Cream Cake: the creamy, sedating cake parent in the Grape Cream Cake version. Dulce trades some of that weight for grape and a livelier head.
  • vs Lemon Cherry Gelato: also a Gelato-family dessert hybrid — tart lemon and cherry over cream and gas instead of grape, with the same happy head and relaxed body. It's the closest match on our shelf.

Who Dulce de Uva Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: grape and dessert-strain fans; late-afternoon and evening sessions; people who want a calm body without immediate couchlock; rosin and hash lovers.

Poor fit: anyone who wants a crisp daytime focus strain, beginners who might overdo it, and people prone to THC anxiety — "paranoid" is among Leafly's top negatives. For something heavier and darker-fruited, Super Boof is the Purple Punch-family option on our shelf.

How to Use Dulce de Uva THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to actually taste the grape. Around 350–380°F keeps the candy and vanilla; 390–410°F brings out the spice and the heavier body.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15–30 minutes. Westword's reviewer found two hits the sweet spot — more turned it disorienting. Regular users usually find two or three hits enough. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly and AllBud, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Low mood: the most-cited reason on Leafly (about 32% of reviewers).
  • Anxiety and stress: about 30% of Leafly reviewers report help — though "paranoid" is also a reported negative, so dose matters.
  • Pain: about 26% on Leafly; AllBud reviewers also mention muscle tension and headaches.
  • Sleep: not its main use, but higher evening doses turn sedating for many.

For a plain-language primer on how terpenes are thought to shape these effects, see Project CBD on terpenes. Nothing here is medical advice, and nothing on this page is intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease. If you take prescription medication or have a health condition, talk to your doctor before using any cannabis product.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly.
  • Paranoia — reported, especially at high doses or low tolerance.
  • Disorientation or couchlock — the most common outcome of overdoing it.

Is Dulce de Uva good for sleep? At a hit or two, it's more relaxed-and-social than sleepy. At higher evening doses many people find it sedating. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Dulce de Uva Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask about the cut. A good seller knows whether it's Bloom's Grape Cream Cake cut or a Grape Pie × OG Kush version. "Just grape" with no answer is a weak sign.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Grape you can actually smell. Real Dulce is loud — grape candy and vanilla with rubber and skunk. Flat, hay or plain earth means poor genetics or a rushed cure.
  • Purple sugar leaves and heavy frost, with trichomes inside the bud, not just on the surface.
  • Sticky but not wet. Buds should snap and grind cleanly, not crumble to dust or feel damp.

Growing Dulce de Uva

Dulce de Uva is a clone-only cut that SeedFinder notes has also been offered as feminized seed, so most growers start from cuttings. Published grow data is thin — no breeder or database we checked lists verified yield or height figures — but the basics are consistent:

  • Flowering: about 8–10 weeks indoors.
  • Outdoors: harvest around late September to early October in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • Color: cool night temperatures late in flower bring out the dark purple sugar leaves.
  • Resin: heavy trichome production makes it a favorite for rosin — Colorado hash makers have run it widely.
  • Training: defoliate and train in veg for an even canopy and airflow around the dense buds.

Is Dulce de Uva THCA Flower Legal?

Under the 2018 Farm Bill, hemp is federally legal when it contains no more than 0.3% delta-9 THC on a dry-weight basis — see the USDA hemp program. THCA flower is sold under that rule. State laws differ and are changing, so check your state before you order. And whatever the label says, THCA flower will show up on a drug test — heated, it is THC.

Is Dulce de Uva good for sleep?

It can be at higher evening doses, when it turns sedating for many people. At a hit or two it's more relaxed and social than sleepy.

What is Dulce de Uva a cross of?
