Cherry Limeade Strain

Cherry Limeade Strain: Sweet Cherry, Tart Lime, Happy Head

The Cherry Limeade strain is exactly what the name promises — a soda-fountain mix of sweet cherry and sharp lime, with herbal, peppery earth underneath. It's a Northern California hybrid credited to Aficionado Seeds, built from Cherry Pie and the breeder's own Black Lime Reserve. The high is cheerful rather than heavy: giggly, uplifted and focused up front, with a relaxed body that shows up later. Want cherry-citrus flower in the jar today? Start with our THCA flower collection.

It's also a strain the internet gets a little tangled on. One big database lists a completely different set of parents in one field and the real ones in the next, potency figures run from 12.5% to almost 30%, and the award history is reported but hard to confirm. Below: what the sources actually agree on, how the high unfolds, what the numbers mean, where the seeds went, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.

A 360° look at Cherry Limeade's frosty buds.

Cherry Limeade Strain Genetics & Lineage

  • Type: Hybrid. Leafly lists it as a hybrid with "mostly energizing" effects; AllBud calls it an evenly balanced 50/50. ILoveGrowingMarijuana also says 50/50 but thinks it leans indica, and warns that couch-lock is possible.
  • Breeder: Aficionado Seeds. Weedmaps says Aficionado bred it by crossing its award-winning Black Lime Reserve with Cherry Pie; ILoveGrowingMarijuana names "Mean Gene" of Aficionado in Mendocino County. Leafly and AllBud don't name a breeder.
  • Parents: Cherry Pie × Black Lime Reserve — the same answer from AllBud, SeedFinder (which marks Black Lime Reserve as "probable"), Weedmaps' description and ILoveGrowingMarijuana.
  • THC: 20% on Leafly; 25–26% on AllBud; 12.5–26% on Weedmaps; 17–26% on ILoveGrowingMarijuana.
  • Other cannabinoids: Leafly lists 1% CBG; ILoveGrowingMarijuana lists CBD at 0.02%.
  • Abbreviation: Leafly uses "Chl."

Where the grandparents come from

SeedFinder fills in the family tree:

  • Cherry Pie — Durban Poison × Granddaddy Purple. That's the cherry, and probably a share of the upbeat head, since Durban Poison is a classic energizing sativa. GDP, in turn, is Purple Urkle × Big Bud.
  • Black Lime Reserve — Aficionado's own indica, listed (as "probable") as an unknown strain × Lime Afghani × Northern Lights × Purple Kush × Chemdawg. Its SeedFinder description also mentions Woodman Canyon Oil Can and gives it pine, lemon and black-pepper aromas. That's where the lime, the pepper and the relaxed body most likely come from.

The parentage glitch — and the "family of crosses" theory

If you've seen Cherry Limeade listed as Kaleidoscope × Candy Fumez, that's Weedmaps' parents field — the same page's description says Cherry Pie × Black Lime Reserve, and so does every other source we checked. We treat the Kaleidoscope listing as a database error. Separately, a long JointCommerce guide describes Cherry Limeade as a loose "family" of crosses that might use Key Lime Pie, Lime OG, Cinderella 99 or Tangie. It cites nothing, and none of those appear in the breeder-attributed pedigree.

Awards: what we could and couldn't confirm

Weedmaps lists two Emerald Cup awards for Cherry Limeade — 3rd place in 2013 and 1st place in 2015 — without naming the category. The Pearl Pharma flower page also calls it an Emerald Cup winner. Leafly only says it "competed in the 2014 L.A. Cannabis Cup," with no placing. We couldn't find the official Emerald Cup results to confirm the year or category, so treat the awards as reported, not verified.

Cherry Limeade's offspring

SeedFinder counts five direct descendants, most of them from Freeborn Selections: Cherry Lime Runtz (Runtz × (Gelato 33 × Cherry Limeade)), a (Gelato × Gelato 33) × Cherry Limeade F5, and Cherry West Bx, which backcrosses it to Cherry Pie. Pompous Seeds' Rita's Cherry carries it too, and Leafly links a child called GrL Grape Limeade.

Cherry Limeade Terpene Profile

Leafly lists caryophyllene as the dominant terpene, followed by limonene and humulene. That's a spicy-citrus-woody trio, and it fits the flavor: peppery earth under bright lime. JointCommerce adds myrcene, ocimene and linalool with percentage ranges, but doesn't say where those numbers came from — we found no published lab terpene data for this strain. Caryophyllene is the one with real research behind it: a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.

Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity

Caryophyllene — pepper, spice, the herbal base

Limonene — lime, lemon, the bright lift

Humulene — woody, hoppy, earthy

Myrcene — ripe fruit, softer body

Estimated relative profile for Cherry Limeade — caryophyllene, limonene and humulene in Leafly's listed order; myrcene from a strain guide without lab data. No published lab percentages found.

  • Caryophyllene: The pepper and spice under the fruit — and likely carried in from Black Lime Reserve, which SeedFinder describes with black-pepper aromas.
  • Limonene: The lime-and-lemon zest, and part of why the high reads upbeat and chatty.
  • Humulene: Woody, hoppy and dry — the "herbal" and "earthy" tags on AllBud's aroma list.
  • Myrcene and linalool: Credited by one strain guide without lab data. Plausible, given the relaxed finish some reviewers report, but unproven.

No single terpene is "cherry." The fruit is the whole blend — and as with most cherry strains, part of it probably comes from non-terpene aroma compounds like esters that standard terpene tests don't measure.

Appearance

AllBud describes dense, oversized, minty-green nugs with gold undertones, a coat of golden trichomes and bright orange hairs. That's a lime-green bud, not the dark purple you might expect from a strain with Cherry Pie, Granddaddy Purple and Purple Kush in its tree — though one strain guide says some phenotypes can show purple or maroon flashes. Either way, look for heavy, sticky frost.

Aroma and Flavor

Open the jar and it's sweet cherry and lime zest first, then berry, herbs and a little damp earth. AllBud's flavor tags read cherry, lime, lemon, sweet and tangy, with berry, citrus, earthy and herbal on the nose. Leafly lists lime, berry and tropical, and one reviewer sums it up as "sweet cherries and lime." On Weedmaps, 54% of reported flavors are lime and 46% berry. Pearl Pharma, which sells it as flower in California, describes red fruit, lime zest and an herbal edge.

The exhale is where the Black Lime side shows — dry, peppery and a little piney. Lower vape temperatures keep the cherry-lime sweetness front and center; hotter hits pull out the spice.

Recreational Effects

Cherry Limeade is a good-mood strain. On Leafly, where it holds a 4.2 rating from 73 reviewers, the most-reported effects are focused, tingly and energetic. Elsewhere:

  • Giggly: the top effect on Weedmaps (48% of reports), with uplifted at 32% and happy at 20%.
  • Euphoric and chatty: AllBud describes a "bright and vibrant high" that's euphoric, motivating and talkative, with the occasional fit of giggles.
  • Focused: Leafly reviewers call it a "great day time strain for morning and afternoon," with motivation and happy thoughts.
  • Relaxed underneath: AllBud notes a "mild relaxing buzz," and ILoveGrowingMarijuana describes an energizing start that turns into full-body relaxation.

How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration

  • First few minutes: a quick lift — AllBud calls the onset "fairly quick."
  • 30–60 minutes: the peak — happy, giggly, social and clear enough to focus.
  • 2–3 hours: a gradual taper into a calmer body. At high doses, some people feel it get heavy — one Leafly reviewer was couch-locked on a vape, while still focused enough for video games.

Those timings come from a strain guide and reviewer reports, not a controlled study. Your dose and tolerance will move them around.

How Strong Is Cherry Limeade?

Cherry Limeade is above average, but the published numbers are all over the place:

  • Leafly: 20% THC, "higher THC than average," plus 1% CBG.
  • AllBud: 25–26% THC on average.
  • Weedmaps: 12.5–26% THC.
  • ILoveGrowingMarijuana: 17–26% THC, 0.02% CBD.
  • Pearl Pharma's product listing: 29.63% THC, with no lab report shown.

Realistically, a good cut lands in the low-to-mid 20s. The near-30% figure is a single product listing without a COA, so don't treat it as the norm. The 1% CBG on Leafly is a nice extra, but it's one database entry, not a guarantee for every batch.

THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a batch of Cherry Limeade against the 12.5–30% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.

Can You Still Get Cherry Limeade Seeds?

Probably not the original. ILoveGrowingMarijuana says Cherry Limeade "is currently not available for sale," and that it's unclear whether seeds were ever sold publicly — which usually means a strain spread as clones. SeedFinder lists it under "Unknown or Legendary" rather than as a seed line.

The closest seed option is Atlas Seed's Cherry Lime Reserve, which SeedFinder lists with the same parents — Cherry Pie × Black Lime Reserve — from genetics by Ron Herrington of Gold Hat Seeds in Alberta. It's sold as feminized seeds, flowers in about 63 days and is listed at 20–28% THC. Same pedigree on paper, but we found nothing confirming it's the same plant as Aficionado's Cherry Limeade. Freeborn Selections' Cherry Lime Runtz and Cherry West Bx are other ways the line lives on.

Cherry Limeade the Strain vs "Cherry Limeade" the Flavor

Search a dispensary menu and you'll find plenty of "Cherry Limeade" gummies, syrups, infused joints and vape carts. Many of them are flavor names, not the strain — a cherry-lime gummy usually tells you about the candy, not the genetics. If you want the actual Cherry Pie × Black Lime Reserve plant, look for flower or a single-strain concentrate that names the strain and, ideally, the grower. Pearl Pharma is one California producer that sells it as flower.

Cherry Limeade vs Similar Strains

  • vs Cherry Pie: the cherry parent. Cherry Pie is jammier, darker and more relaxing; Cherry Limeade adds tart lime and pepper and leans more upbeat.
  • vs Lemon Cherry Gelato: our in-stock pick, and a fair cousin, not a twin. Both run cherry and citrus with a happy, giggly lift, but Lemon Cherry Gelato is creamier and more dessert-like, with lemon instead of lime and a more relaxed finish.
  • vs Cherry Runtz: Runtz × Cherry Pie. Sweeter, candy-like cherry and a heavier, sleepier side. Not to be confused with Freeborn's Cherry Lime Runtz, which actually carries Cherry Limeade.
  • vs Cherry Diesel: cherry over fuel instead of lime, with a sharper, more energetic edge.
  • vs Cherry Punch: another cherry-forward hybrid, fruitier and more punch-like, without the lime zest.
  • vs Durban Poison: the energizing great-grandparent. Durban is anise-and-pine sativa; Cherry Limeade keeps some of its lift but adds fruit and a softer body.

Who Cherry Limeade Is (and Isn't) For

Good fit: daytime and afternoon smokers who want a happy, social, giggly high; people who like fruit-and-citrus flavor over gas; and anyone who wants focus without a racing head.

Poor fit: people prone to THC anxiety — "anxious" is one of Leafly's top-reported negatives, and two reviewers specifically mention paranoia — and anyone wanting a reliable sleep strain. For cherry-citrus flavor in the jar today, Lemon Cherry Gelato is our pick, from $69 for a half ounce.

How to Use Cherry Limeade THCA Flower — and How Much

THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.

  • Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
  • Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to taste the cherry and lime. Lower temperatures, around 340–375°F, keep the fruit bright; 390–410°F brings out the pepper and wood from the caryophyllene and humulene.
  • Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
  • Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.

How much? New or occasional users: one or two small puffs, then wait 15 minutes. Regular users usually find two or three hits gives the full happy, giggly arc. Go easy if you're anxiety-prone — this strain's main complaint is an anxious edge at high doses. You can always add more; you can't take it back.

Medicinal Benefits

These are uses consumers report on Leafly, AllBud and ILoveGrowingMarijuana, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.

  • Stress: the top reason on Leafly (about 21% of reviewers) and on AllBud's and ILoveGrowingMarijuana's lists.
  • Low mood: about 19% of Leafly reviewers mention depression; ILoveGrowingMarijuana also lists it.
  • Pain and muscle tension: about 17% of Leafly reviewers cite pain; AllBud lists chronic pain and muscle spasms, and its reviewers mention inflammation and low-back pain.
  • Nausea and appetite: AllBud lists nausea; ILoveGrowingMarijuana says moderate doses can boost appetite.
  • Fatigue and headaches: listed by ILoveGrowingMarijuana, consistent with the upbeat headline effects.

Side Effects and Cautions

  • Dry mouth and dry eyes — the most common complaints on Leafly and ILoveGrowingMarijuana.
  • Anxiety or paranoia — among Leafly's top negatives, especially at higher doses.
  • Headache — occasionally reported when people overdo it.
  • Heaviness — the relaxed finish can turn into couch-lock at high doses.

Is Cherry Limeade good for sleep? Not usually — most people use it in the daytime, though one Leafly reviewer found it workable for both "if not overconsumed." Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.

Is Cherry Limeade Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag

  • Ask what it is. Strain flower or a cherry-lime flavor? With so many flavored products using the name, make sure you're buying the plant.
  • A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30%+ claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
  • Cherry and lime. A real Cherry Limeade has sweet cherry and tart citrus over pepper and herbs. Flat, earthy flower with no fruit is old or mislabeled.
  • Bud structure — dense, minty-green nugs with orange hairs and visible golden frost.
  • A proper cure — a hay or grass smell means it was rushed, and the delicate fruit is the first thing to go.

Growing Cherry Limeade

Details are thin, because the original appears to have spread as clones. What the sources say:

  • Flowering: 7–9 weeks indoors per ILoveGrowingMarijuana; a strain guide gives 56–70 days, with sativa-leaning phenos finishing sooner.
  • Outdoor harvest: late September to early October in the Northern Hemisphere.
  • Yield: about 10–12 oz per square meter indoors and 12+ oz per plant outdoors, per ILoveGrowingMarijuana.
  • Climate: likely does best warm, indoors or out.
  • Stretch: one guide reports a 1.5–2× stretch after flip, so top early and keep the canopy even.
  • Seeds: the original isn't sold; Atlas Seed's Cherry Lime Reserve (same listed parents, about 63 days) is the nearest feminized option.
