Baby Yoda Strain: Compound Genetics' Khalifa Kush × The Menthol
The Baby Yoda strain is a modern, indica-leaning hybrid from Compound Genetics, the Portland, Oregon breeder behind Blue Lobster and Grape Gas. It crosses Khalifa Kush — an OG Kush-family cut — with the breeder's own The Menthol. The result is dense, bright-green, frost-heavy flower that smells of tobacco, pepper, wood and pine, opens with a quick, talkative lift, and finishes relaxed and heavy. It belongs in the gassy, grown-up corner of our THCA flower collection.
Despite the cute name, this is a strong strain — Leafly lists 22% THC, the breeder claims up to 30%, and the most common complaint is overdoing it. Below: where it comes from, what the two parents bring, why reviewers can't agree on whether it energizes or sedates, how to use it, how to grow it, and how to judge a bag.
A 360° look at Baby Yoda's bright green, frosty, orange-haired buds.

- Type: Hybrid with an indica lean. AllBud lists 70% indica / 30% sativa and SeedFinder calls it "mostly indica," while Leafly's effect data calls it "mostly energizing." More on that below.
- Ancestry: Khalifa Kush × The Menthol, per Leafly, AllBud and SeedFinder.
- Breeder: Compound Genetics, founded in Portland in 2017 and led by Christopher Lynch, whose other releases include Apples & Bananas, Pave, Horchata, Khalifa Mints, Blue Lobster and Grape Gas.
- THC: Leafly 22% (with about 1% CBG); AllBud 23–25%; SeedFinder cites user and dispensary reports of 25–30%, and the breeder's own description says "up to 30%."
- CBD: Negligible.
- Aliases: Grogu.
The parents: Khalifa Kush and The Menthol
Khalifa Kush is an OG cut descended from an undisclosed OG strain and associated with the rapper Wiz Khalifa. Leafly describes it as limonene-, myrcene- and caryophyllene-led, with kush, pepper, sour lemon and pine flavors and a more sedating effect than its marketing suggests. It gives Baby Yoda its OG citrus, pine and pepper — and much of its weight.
The Menthol is a Compound Genetics strain that SeedFinder traces to Gelato 45, White Diesel, High Octane and Jet Fuel G6 — a dessert-meets-fuel stack known for heavy resin, dark flowers and a cooling, minty, balm-like nose with creamy undertones. It's the source of Baby Yoda's resin, its diesel edge and the faint menthol some cuts show.
Why is it called Baby Yoda?
The name refers to the small, green, big-eared character from the 2019 TV series The Mandalorian, whose official name is Grogu — hence the strain's alias. SeedFinder notes the buds' bright green color is reminiscent of the character. That's where the connection ends: it's a strain name, not a licensed product.
Not the same as Yoda OG or "Baby Yoduh"
Databases list other strains with similar names — Leafly has a separate Yoda OG, and AllBud a separate Baby Yoduh. They aren't Khalifa Kush × The Menthol. If a menu doesn't name the breeder or lineage, ask.
Baby Yoda Terpene Profile
Leafly's lab-sourced data lists myrcene as Baby Yoda's most abundant terpene, followed by pinene and caryophyllene; SeedFinder and The Social Cannabis report the same three. Limonene from the Khalifa Kush side shows up as the citrus note in some cuts. Caryophyllene is notable in its own right — a 2008 PNAS study identified beta-caryophyllene as a "dietary cannabinoid" that binds CB2 receptors.
Terpene Profile — Relative Intensity
Myrcene — earthy, herbal, the heavy body
Pinene — pine, a clearer head
Caryophyllene — pepper, tobacco spice
Limonene — OG citrus top note
Typical relative profile for Baby Yoda — myrcene-led per Leafly. Some cuts read more citrus-and-menthol, others more tobacco-and-pepper.
- Myrcene: earthy and herbal; the main driver of the heavy, relaxed back half.
- Pinene: fresh pine on the nose, and part of why the opening feels clear and talkative rather than foggy.
- Caryophyllene: the pepper and tobacco spice, and the only common terpene known to act directly on CB2 receptors.
- Limonene: the OG citrus from Khalifa Kush — louder in the lemon-leaning cuts.
The "menthol" isn't a single terpene listed in the data. It's the overall chemistry inherited from The Menthol, and it varies a lot from grower to grower.
Appearance
Baby Yoda's buds are its calling card: dense, spade-shaped nugs in bright, almost neon green — Leafly calls it "bright, swampy green" — threaded with orange hairs and coated in golden-amber trichomes. Nez Cannabis and SeedFinder note that some batches show purple undertones. The plants stay compact with tight internodes, so the flower comes out hard and resinous.
Aroma and Flavor
Crack a jar and you get dark tobacco, pepper and wood first — SeedFinder's description — then pine, earth and a tangy diesel edge. A second sniff can turn up skunk, sandalwood or incense. Leafly's top flavor tags are tobacco, pepper and woody; AllBud adds diesel, herbal, pine and spicy.
Not every cut reads the same. Colorado Harvest Company describes "zesty citrus peel" meeting "mentholated gas," and Nez Cannabis a lemon-candy nose with menthol on the back end. On the palate, expect citrus, OG and pine on the inhale, then earthy, creamy notes and a spicy, vanilla or tobacco exhale.
Recreational Effects
Baby Yoda comes on within minutes. SeedFinder describes a strong rush of cerebral energy that makes users creative, social and motivated, with physical relaxation building underneath and, at higher doses, turning into deep relaxation and couch-lock. On Leafly, the most-reported effects are:
- Talkative: the top tag — the opening is chatty and social.
- Aroused: one of its most-tagged effects.
- Relaxed: the body calm that takes over as it settles.
- Uplifted and focused: common in the first hour.
- Tingly and sleepy: AllBud's reviewers describe a tingle that progresses to sedation.
So is it energizing or sedating? Both. Leafly's data calls it "mostly energizing" while also noting it's "believed to be sedating and tingly"; AllBud and The Social Cannabis lean sleepy. The difference is mostly dose: a small amount reads bright and social, a full session reads heavy.
How the high unfolds: onset, peak and duration
- First 5 minutes: a fast, strong head change — mood lift and a rush of energy.
- 15–60 minutes: the peak — talkative, creative and focused, with the body loosening.
- 1–3 hours: the myrcene-heavy back half — deep relaxation, and often sleep at higher doses.

Dense, resinous Baby Yoda is made for small doses — a one-hitter from the dugout is plenty.

How Strong Is Baby Yoda?
Baby Yoda is a high-THC strain, and every source agrees it's above average:
- Leafly: 22% THC, about 1% CBG — "higher THC than average."
- AllBud: 23–25%, with one reviewer reporting a 28.31% batch.
- SeedFinder: 25–30% from user and dispensary reports.
- Compound Genetics: "up to 30% THC."
Is it the strongest strain ever? No — no single strain holds that title, because potency varies more between growers and batches than between names, and plenty of modern strains test in the high 20s and 30s. Baby Yoda is firmly in the heavy-hitter tier, though, and the fast onset makes it easy to overshoot.
THCA flower is labeled differently from dispensary flower: the lab reports THCA, which converts to THC when heated, plus a small amount of delta-9 THC. When you compare a Baby Yoda batch against the 22–30% range above, compare total THC on the COA, not the headline number — our guide on how to read a THCA flower COA walks through the math.
Baby Yoda vs Similar Strains
- vs OG Kush: the OG family Khalifa Kush comes from. Baby Yoda keeps the pine and pepper but adds resin, diesel and a minty edge.
- vs Blue Lobster and Grape Gas: Compound Genetics siblings in spirit — same breeder, same taste for loud, gassy, resin-heavy flower — but fruitier.
- vs Kush Mintz and Animal Mints: other cool, minty-kush hybrids. Baby Yoda is more tobacco-and-pepper, less cookie.
- vs Super Boof: the closest match on our shelf. Different flavor — Super Boof is cherry, orange peel and cream rather than tobacco and pepper — but the same myrcene-and-caryophyllene lead and the same arc: a quick, social lift that settles into a relaxed body.
- vs GovernMint Oasis: if the cool menthol note is what you're after, this is the minty option in our lineup — also available as live rosin.
Who Baby Yoda Is (and Isn't) For
Good fit: experienced smokers with a decent tolerance; evening sessions that start social and end on the couch; fans of earthy, peppery, gassy flavors over candy fruit.
Poor fit: beginners, anyone prone to THC anxiety or paranoia, or someone who needs to stay productive all afternoon. For something gentler on our shelf, Strawberry 2.1 is the lighter pick.
How to Use Baby Yoda THCA Flower — and How Much
THCA has to be heated to do anything. Raw, it isn't intoxicating; heat converts it to THC (decarboxylation), which is why the method matters as much as the strain.
- Smoking (joint, pipe, bong): the fastest onset. Take one or two small hits, then wait 10–15 minutes before deciding on more.
- Dry-herb vaporizer: the best way to pick up the pine, citrus and menthol under the tobacco. Around 350–380°F keeps the clearer, talkative side; 390–410°F brings out the heavy myrcene body.
- Pre-rolls: the no-prep option — see our THCA pre-rolls.
- Homemade edibles: decarb the flower first. Edibles take 30–120 minutes to kick in and last far longer, so start low and wait the full two hours.
How much? New or occasional users: one small hit, then wait 15–30 minutes — this one is potent and hits fast. Regular users usually find two or three hits delivers the full social-to-sleepy arc. You can always add more; you can't take it back.
Medicinal Benefits
These are uses consumers report on Leafly, not established clinical outcomes. Individual response varies with dose, tolerance and chemotype.
- Anxiety: the most-cited reason in Leafly reviews (about 31%) — though "paranoid" is also one of its top negatives, so dose carefully.
- Stress: about 25% of reviewers.
- Low mood: about 19%.
- Sleep and headaches: AllBud lists insomnia, headaches and migraines among the reasons people reach for it; The Social Cannabis notes "sleep support."

Side Effects and Cautions
- Dry eyes and dry mouth — the top two complaints on Leafly.
- Paranoia or anxiety — reported, especially at high doses or low tolerance.
- Headache — occasionally reported, per SeedFinder.
- Couch-lock — at higher doses, plan on staying put.
Is Baby Yoda good for sleep? At higher evening doses, often yes — the myrcene-heavy back half is sedating. Don't drive after using it, and talk to your doctor first if you take prescription medication, are pregnant or nursing, or have a heart condition.
Is Baby Yoda Top Shelf? How to Judge a Good Bag
- Ask who grew it and from what. The original is a clone-only Compound Genetics cut; seed versions (Copycat Genetix sells one) are different phenotypes. "Yoda OG" is a different strain entirely.
- A current third-party COA naming the lab, with THCA, delta-9 and total THC. Treat 30% claims without paperwork as marketing. Ours are on the lab results page.
- The nose: tobacco, pepper and pine with diesel underneath — or citrus and menthol on some cuts. Flat or grassy means a poor cure.
- Bright green, dense and frosty, with orange hairs and trichomes that look glassy, not dull or brown.
- Hard, tight buds — airy flower suggests a weak grow.
Growing Baby Yoda
Baby Yoda is a compact, indica-leaning plant suited to indoor rooms, though it can also be grown outdoors and in greenhouses.
- Flowering: about 63 days (roughly 9 weeks), per SeedFinder.
- Structure: compact with tightly spaced nodes and vibrant foliage; it stretches a little in early bloom to carry its thick flowers.
- Color: mostly bright green; some batches pick up purple hues.
- Yield and height: no reliable published figures — the breeder hasn't released any, and the cut is clone-only.
- Availability: Compound Genetics doesn't sell it as seed; clones have circulated through US nurseries, and Copycat Genetix offers its own seed version.
- Offspring: SeedFinder lists more than a dozen crosses, including Elev8 Seeds' Galactic Guava and In House Genetics' Platinum Yoda.
